Failing to upgrading from os 10.6.8 to mavericks

i have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and trying to upgrade to Mavericks. When I click upgrade, getting the message failed to open page.

Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
iCloud system requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
or Mountain Lion:

MY QUE IS, WILL IT BE FIXED IF I UPGRADE FROM OSX 10.8.5 TO MAVERICKS? What other options do I have? What can be an approximate cost for fixing this problem?

Of course not. It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by upgrading software. The only option you have got is to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller.
That error indicates a problem with the hard drive. What you have to do is to make a backup of your files and take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller, so they can confirm that the problem is the hard drive and not the SATA connector, which could be worse.
If it's a hard drive issue, it's not expensive (about $100-200, depending on the hard drive). If it's a SATA connector issue, the whole logic board may have to be replaced.
Note that you can replace the hard drive yourself if you want, but the cost between doing it yourself and taking the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller is similar

  • I am trying to upgrade from Lion 10.7.5 to mavericks, it says I need 10.9 before 10.9.5. I cannot find 10.9, any suggestions?

Upgrading from Lion 10.7.5 to Maverick, will not allow upgrade to 10.9.5, says I need 10.9, which I cannot find. Any suggestions?

You probably downloaded the 10.9.5 Update, which only updates previous versions of Mavericks.
Mavericks itself is only available through the App Store:

Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why?

  • Failed to upgrade from ERP 6.0 EHP4 to EHP5

    Dear SAP Gurus,
we are running ERP 6.00 with EHP4 (HCM-component) based on Windows 2003
    SP2 X64 and SQL Server 2005 SP4 (64-bit).
We are using SAP Kernel Unicode 7.01 PL 133 (64-bit).
We intend to upgrade from EHP4 to EHP5.
Upon running SAPehpi, we encountered issue which stopped us from
    proceeding with the upgrade.
Case 1: Direct upgrade to 605
The upgrade failed on PREP_INPUT/VERSCHK_INI with error message: The
    following combination is not supported (SAP_APPL 600, SAP_BASIS 701,
    SAP_ABA 701).
Case 2: Upgrade SAP_APPL component from 600 to 604 (due to the above
    error message)
The upgrade failed on PREP_INPUT/VERSCHK_INI with error message:
Release '701' of component SAP_BASIS is too new.
Case 3: upgrade via SAINT is not supported by SAP. When uploading the
Stack XML file, we got error saying that the stack is not supported.
Attached is the complete list of the current SP Level of Installed
    components.
Please advise on how we can perform the upgrade to EHP5.
    Many thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Denny

The thing is Solution Manager was able to produce the XML file during the previous upgrade to 604 (the one without SAP_APPL 604).
So how can it not be supported by SAP?
If it is not supported by SAP, how can I proceed from here?

  • If my computer is on a network, may I upgrade from OS 10.6.8 to Mavericks without affecting the server?

My iMac is one of 3 computers on a network server. I'd like to upgrade mine to Mavericks to take advantage of additional functionality, but need to be sure before doing so that it won't affect functions fo the server or the other computers on the server.  Thanks.

Depends. If everything including your system files and user folder are contained on your computer, then you can upgrade without causing any problems. However, for security I would log off the server until your installation is completed.
Your profile shows 10.9.1, so what are you upgrading? That is the current version of Mavericks.
Be sure to do this before upgrading:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • ICal delegation failing after upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion

I've just upgraded our Snow Leopard server to run Lion Server.
I have a problem with iCal Server.
Individual calendars work OK: can be accessed from iCal / iThings and so on, and via web interface.  But calendar delegation doesn't.
If I open Accounts / Preferences / Delegation from any version of iCal / Calendar I get this error:
In the server calendar server error log I see the following:
    [twext.web2.dav.method.report_expand#error] Error reading property (u'http://calendarserver.org/ns/', u'calendar-proxy-read-for') for resource /principals/__uids__/BCDF1D53-4447-40A2-A035-B30F6E2EEDE4/: <StatusResponse 403 Unable to list properties: /Volumes/StorageHD/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/Documents>
Anyone got any ideas what is going on and / or how to fix?
Thanks in advance for any help available.

    OK - Fixed it.
Turns out the cure is to use the Webcal Interface to re-create the delegations.  A bit tedious, but doing this presumably forces a rewrite of the file that previously cannot be accessed.  Means you need to set up the delegation again for each account - but this at least is an improvement over not being able to do anything at all.
Once fixed, delegation works just fine.
Hope this helps someone else solve the issue etc.

  • Win 7 basic, failed to upgrade from iTunes 10.4 to 10.5

I was previously using iTunes 10.4 with no problem, so I doubt it's not really a Windows problem. However I was trying to update my iTunes to 10.5 because of iOS5, the Apple Software Update stuck on the installation. So I was advised to download the update manually, which I did, and install the update.
To cut the story short, it was a failed attempt. I uninstall iTunes and all its related software (and I think I screwed up everything by not uninstalling the softwares in its order). Anyway I ensured no trace of apple related files in my computer, and when I tried to install iTunes 10.5, it said "Apple mobile device failed to start.
Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
This is really frustrating. Anyone got any similar experience and able to help? I have tried reinstalling, uninstalling for a few hours. This is unnecessary issue to start with.

I recieved the same message. Have you found a fix to this?
If not, read my issue because I belive we have the same

  • Win10 wlan fails after upgrade from Win7

Worked fine on Win7Upgraded to Win10.The WLAN key on the keyboard in now orange, even while booting or in BIOS setup.Device Manager shows the Broadcom WLAN device is active and functioning. Networking can't find the adapter- has an X in the Wi-Fi connect window.Network troubleshooter says to turn on WLAN via switch or keyboard. Since the light on the key is always orange, is it a BIOS issue?WLAN settingss shows WI-FI as Off. You can't change the state to on. (Works fine on my ProBook 6460 on Win10, but that was a clean install.) LAN adapter working fine. I tried an older Win8 driver set from the HP Website. No difference.

No one else having this issue? It's really strange , since device manager says the driver is installed and happy. The F12 key just turns Flight mode on/off -- makes no difference to WLAN working.I even remove the Broadcom WLAN adapter and replaced it, to make sure the connection was good. I hate going back to Win7.

  • Question on upgrade from Lion 10.7.5 to Mavericks

I have Lion 10.7.5 and I am trying to upgrade to Mavericks 10.9. I follow the straight forward instructions and then when I get to the App store panel and click the download button the Star spins and then nothing happens. I am logged in with my apple ID

To determine if it is actually downloading use Launchpad. You should see a fairly obvious new icon with an associated progress bar. Make sure you check every Launchpad page by swiping left / right.
If it's paused, click the icon to restart it.
Once it completes the icon will appear in Applications and Launchpad, it's just easier to find in Launchpad.
When it's finished downloading it looks like this:
If it really is not downloading read Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
    Open the Mac App Store.
From the Store menu, choose Sign In.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases to get to your Purchases Page.
Click the Resume button next to the app name.

  • Will I be able to upgrade from 10.6.8 directly to Mavericks or install Mountain Lion first?

I'm guessing no, but it would be nice to get official word Apple. I'd rather not deal with installing Mountain Lion unless I have to.

    10.6.8 to 10.9 Upgrade Advice
There is a good chance one can directly go from 10.6.8 to 10.9 like occurred with 10.6.8 to 10.8, skipping OS X versions in the process. We don't know for sure until it's released, it makes logical sense though.
OS X versions 10.7+ do not run PPC based software your currently using Rosetta under 10.6
So you need to first check for compatibility of your third party software before any OS X upgrade.
If it won't run with 10.7 or 10.8, it likely won't with 10.9
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If your ok with your third party software requiring upgrades or replacements, then your good to go.
Next you will have to check the RAM and hardware requirements to make sure your machine is compatible with the upgraded OS X version, usually err a lot more than the minimal specifications Apple provides. Apple might provide the minimal hardware specifications, however it might not be ideal in performance, especially on nearly full boot hard drives.
I very HIGHLY recommend before one upgrades is to backup up their entire system using TimeMachine and/a bootable clone (ideal as you can easily revert) or TimeMachine + a copy of users files on a regular external drive then disconnect all drives before updating.
Have two copies of your data off the machine in case you need to do a erase and install of 10.9 to fix other issues with your machine. TimeMachine might have gotten corrupted unawares and refuse to restore and it would be on the older OS X version. So your extra copy of just users files on a regular drive or bootable clone is going to save your bacon.
Prevention is worth a ton of cure.  Most commonly used backup methods
Warning! If one connects a TimeMachine drive to a upgraded OS X system, because of the huge changes of the boot drive, it's likely going to cause a huge change to TimeMachine as it's a rotational backup system, it doesn't archive users files so older ones will be deleted.
If you have been storing older files on TimeMachine thinking you can restore them, then you need to make sure to save them off the TimeMachine drive on a external drive before upgrading OS X or making any substantial changes to your boot drive.
I also highly advise that if your machine has a boot hard drive (not a SSD), to reduce users files off the drive to bare minimal, they can be returned after upgrading. This has a effect of the new OS X version being written to faster portions of the boot drive instead of the slower ones with a full boot drive, also less defragmention occurs. Hopefully this will avoid a lot of the "I've upgraded and my machine is now slow problems"
If you have a SSD is to make sure you have about 75% of the SSD free space by reducing users files.
Regardless of a SSD or maximum RAM, after upgrading OS X on older machines it might appear slower than before, it's because newer OS X versions are more feature rich and tailored to newer machines with more RAM, faster processors and graphics capability. This is normal and to be expected for instance the OS X Lions really work better with 4GB of RAM or more, despite Apple saying 2GB is the minimal.
At this time we don't know exactly what minimal hardware will work best with the new OS X version or how to advise if certain machines are better off on the older OS X 10.6.8. However in my opinion it seems Early 2011 laptops and later with SSD's seem to go better with the newer OS X versions of 10.7 and later.
It doesn't mean yours won't work, it's just that it would be better with these later models than on earlier ones.
If your not computer savvy, there is nothing wrong in waiting until the problems of a new OS X upgrade be resolved before making your leap.
I also suggest one makes sure there are no other "problems" with their machine before upgrading as it very well come to light and leave you angry and confused on what to do.
Again, a ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.
