Failover Cluster Validation Report with warnings

Hi,
I have 2 Node cluster on windows 2008 R2.I have run cluster validation report and found following warnings pls suggest and guide me health of cluster and how to fix and remove these warnigns. thx.
Validate All Drivers Signed
Validate that tested servers contain only signed drivers.
Validating that the servers contain only signed drivers...
The node 'cluster1.domain.com'has unsigned drivers.
Device Name  Device Class  Driver Version  Driver Date  Manufacturer  Inf Name  Driver Name  Device ID  Description  Status  Start Mode
Virtual CloneDrive  SCSIADAPTER  5.4.4.3  1/15/2011 12:00:00 AM  Elaborate Bytes AG  oem1.inf  Value Not Found  ROOT\SCSIADAPTER\0000  Virtual CloneDrive  Value Not Found  Unknown
Unsigned drivers were found on one or more of the servers.

Hi,
you need to run iso files at your cluster nodes often?
Well i think you need to provide iso files to your VMs. This is possible without "Virtual CloneDrive"!
I have seen many errors with this kind of software up to bluescreens.
But ok if you really need this software just ignore the warning from cluster validation report.
The cluster will work correctly if this are the only warnings from cluster validation report.

  • Failover Cluster Validation Report Error with IBM USB Remote NDIS Network device

We are setting up Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster on IBM X3850 X5 and get errors in the Failover cluster Validation Report due to the IBM USB Remote NDIS Network Device is using APIPA adresses and both servers are using same APIPA-adresse.
How should I configure the Server and OS for the Failover cluster to be MS approved?
IBM don't recommend that i disable the Network device, but it is a possible solution!?!

What I did was use ipconfig /all to see the settings it is using and then when and set the ip setting on the NDIS driver to be that except I increment the last value by 1 for each node so that they do not have the same IP address.   I ran the
cluster validation again and it came up clean and I have not experienced any issues yet.  It does give warnings about it being an Automatic Private IP Address and should not be used, which is ok because we are not going to use it anyways.

The event viewer on one of the hosts shows

and network communication are not reestablished, the cluster service on one or more nodes will stop.  If that happens, run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. Additionally, check for hardware or software errors related
to the network adapters on this node, and check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.
The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk.

Only other warning is because the 4 nic ports in each node server are teamed on one ip address split over two switches - I am not concernd about this and could if required split then pairs, I think this is a red herring????

  • Network DR test causes Exchange DAG network to fail (Failover Cluster Manager reports comms errors)

We have a DAG configured between 2 mailbox servers, one in each of our main data centres. Our comms team recently performed a DR test between our 2 data centres, switiching from the main production link to the backup link. During this outage the Failover
Cluster Manager reported errors, with each mailbox server reporting the other as uncontactable. The Events that were logged include the following:
Isatap interface isatap.{02ADE20A-D5D4-437F-AD00-E6601F7E7A9D} is no longer active. (EventID 4201)
Cluster node 'MAILBOX_SERVER' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the
Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is
connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges. (EventID 1135)
File share witness resource 'File Share Witness (\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME)' failed to arbitrate for the file share '\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME'. Please ensure that file share '\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME' exists and is accessible by the cluster. (EventID
    1564)
Cluster resource 'File Share Witness (\\\WITNESS_SERVER\SHARE_NAME)' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed. (EventID 1069)
The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network
configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges. (EventID 1177)
The Cluster Service service terminated with service-specific error A quorum of cluster nodes was not present to form a cluster. (EventID 7024)
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service. (EventID 7031)
Looking at the Cluster Events in the Failover Cluster Manager Snap-In i see a heap of Event ID 47 (cannot activate the DAG databases as the server is not up according to Windows Failover Cluster Service) and:
Node status could not be recorded. This could prevent some network failure logic from functioning correctly. NodeStatus:IsHealthy=True,HasADAccess=True,ClusterErrorOverrideFalse,LastUpdate=5/2/2011 8:25:42 AMUTC Failure:An Active Manager operation failed.
Error: An error occurred while attempting a cluster operation. Error: Cluster API '"ClusterRegSetValue() failed with 0x6be. Error: The remote procedure call failed"' failed.. (EventID 184)
Forcefully dismounting all the locally mounted databases on server 'BACKUP_MAILBOX_SERVER. (EventID 307).
Our Comms team doesn't believe it is a comms issue as they did not log any network communication errors between the servers in the two sites (using icmp). So if it is not a comms issue, how can I configure the Failover Cluster Manager to be resilient to
this type of network failover event.
    Thanks
    Dan

Isn't it also true that in a stretched DAG with even numbered nodes, the PAM needs to be in the same site as the active DAG node?  If the connection between both nodes goes down, and the PAM is in the "passive" site, the primary node will
dismount the databases since it can't check with the PAM to make sure its safe for it to be up.
In a even-numbered node stretched DAG, the PAM changes to the DR/passive site everytime a failover occurs, but doesn't automatically switch back when you reactivate the primary node.

  • Hyper-V cluster validation report "Found duplicate physical address" on nic team interfaces.

I recently built a Windows 2012 Hyper-V cluster with 5 nodes. The validation report shows “duplicate physical address” error (error text pasted below).
The hardware: HP BladeSystem – servers are BL460c blades, in a c7000 enclosure, connected to HP Virtual Connect switches.
Each server has 2 physcal nics, teamed in Windows. In the NIC Teaming console, I created the following Team Interfaces and assigned each a VLAN ID:
    “Team1” (the default team)
    “Team1 - VLAN 204 – Management”
    “Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB”
    “Team1 - VLAN 211 -Exchange DAG Replication”
I also created 2 HV Virtual Switches. Neither one allows management interface to share. They are assigned to “Team1” and “Team1 - VLAN 211 -Exchange DAG Replication” respectively.
Therefore, in Network Connection, I see the 2 physical Ethernet nics, and 4 “virtual” nics. Only 2 of them have IP addresses assigned: Management and HB. These are the two that the validation wizard complains
    about.
The MAC address is not configurable in the NIC Teaming console, so I don’t see a way to resolve this error, except to use separate physical nics. I don’t want to do that because a) I would lose the benefits of
the bandwidth aggregation that Virtual Connect provides, and b) When creating an Interface on a Team in Windows, it looks like it ALWAYS gives it the same MAC address, so that should be a supported configuration.
Everything works just fine, and there are no other errors or IP conflicts or anything else. But I really want to fix it because I don’t know what unknown problems this may be causing.
    From the Cluster Validation report:
Found duplicate physical address 10-60-4B-A9-4A-30 on node Cluster201.OurDomain.local adapter
    Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster201.OurDomain.local adapter

    Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster212.OurDomain.local adapter
    Team1 - VLAN 204 - Management.
    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,
"It turns out that both hosts had the same default MAC address ranges for their virtual switches. Since the host vNICs were attached to the virtual switch on each host they received the first couple of MAC addresses from the switches.

  • Failover cluster validation tool report

I have two same model and config HP server form 2 nodes cluster, in Windows 2008R2 enterprise, when use failover cluster manager validate a configure, the result report said system configuration - software update level, some software updates missing on 1
    node:
    KB3029944, KB3023562, KB3021952, KB3013455, KB3004394, KB2980245, KB2926765, KB2913152, KB2862966, KB2847311 and KB2709981 (all version is correct for Windows 2008R2 64bit)
I try manual download from Microsoft and standalone install, all security update get "The update is not applicable to your computer" .
So how to install security update back the sever match 2 nodes software level ?

Both server is same day purchasing inside hardware and firmware is same, only deploy Windows days is not same, Windows update method via internet, if both server is same why after Windows update some
software updates missing on 1 node ?
Honestly the failover cluster manager validate report all pass except system
configuration - software update level not pass, if
I don't care missing updates form cluster any large critical will happen?

  • Schedule Cluster Validation Report

Is there a way to schedule a validation report to run once a day? We would also need to have Storage deselected in the test selection. Thanks.

Alexey provided you with references to use PowerShell.  Here is where you go to learn about the task scheduler -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721871.aspx  Or, if you want to use PowerShell for that part, too -

Your question really is not related to Hyper-V, though.  Is there some other reason you posted in the Hyper-V forum?

  • Failover cluster Validation

    Hi
If i have production servers working on hyper v failover cluster and i want for some reason to run the validaion on the failover cluster
what is the consideration before i ran the validation ?
    shall i shutdown all vms?

MCP MCSA MCSE MCT MCTS CCNA

    Hi Yasser,
Here are a few articles that might help. I've pointed out a few of the key comments here, and it appears that storage validation is the only category that will cause downtime. So if you want to validate storage, then yes, you'll need to shut them down.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732035(WS.10).aspx (Server 2008/2008R2)
"By default, the wizard warns you if storage tests have been selected but will not be run on storage that is online, that is, storage used by clustered services or applications. In this situation, you can run validation tests (including
storage tests) by creating or choosing a new logical unit number (LUN) from the same shared storage device and presenting it to all nodes. By testing this LUN, you can avoid disruption to clustered services and applications already online within the cluster
and still test the underlying storage subsystem."
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2011/06/28/10180803.aspx (Server 2008R2)
"Across these dozens of tests, only a few of them will impact running cluster workloads and these are all within the storage category, so skipping this entire category is an easy way to avoid disruptive tests."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj134244#BKMK_RUN_TESTS (Server 2012/2012R2)
"If a clustered role is using a disk when you start the wizard, the wizard will prompt you about whether to take that clustered role offline for the purposes of testing. If you choose to take a clustered role offline, it will remain offline
    until the tests finish."
    Thanks,

  • FDM validation report with source data gives 0

    Hi All,
I'm building a validation report to report on the source data (so using ~ instead of |).
I've created a logic group to sum up the amounts to a member TOTAL.
When i use the validation editor lookup screen i can browse for Entity, Account (TOTAL), UD1, UD2 and UD3.
The category, Period and Year are left blank.
When trying to test i have to select a test entity (which is the target entity dimension). However, these entities are nog in my source entities (since they are mapped).
So the lookup value gives a value of 0 while a value should be there (since i've selected all dimensions).
Any suggestions? i remember that in the past i did just select a random test entity and it did work.
    We're using version 11.1.1.3.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tony,
What do you mean by target information.
I only retrieve source information but i have to select an entity in the test window (where only the target entities are shown).
So all fields in the import screen (except those in the pov) are defined and match the import screen members exact.
Furthermore when i click browse for the years i get an error as well..

  • Failover cluster validation errors

We are trying to set up a failover cluster file server between two domain controllers running Windows Server 2012 RC.
When we go through the Validate Configuration wizard, we receive the following errors messages against the Active Directory configuration (names have been changed).
"It could not be determined whether node computer1.example.com is a read only domain controller because of this error: The object does not exist."
    and
"Node(s) computer1.example.com computer2.example.com cannot reach a writable domain controller. Please check connectivity of these nodes to the domain controllers."
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Replication and DNS appear to be working fine for all other services.

I did some tracking down of the problem, and it appears that it stems from the cluster not being able to retrieve the node names.  The function specifically is called GetFqdnNodeNamesFromCluster( ).
It can be seen if you run "Get-ClusterLog" while the cluster is in the process of being created.  This error seems to be the root of the cluster creation failure.  Here is a stacktrace:

  • Validation Report warnings

In my application, I have 3 processes, and a PDF form,
the 3 processes reference the PDF form,
so each time I make a change to the PDF form, I got 3 warnings in the Validation Report tab, saying that the PDF that these processes depend on has been changed.
I can get rid of those warnings manually by doing the "Validate" on those processes.
my question is, why it doesn't do the Validate automatically? and stop displaying those warnings all the time?
is there a way to let it do the Validate automatically?

  • Cluster Setup Support Rules fails with Warnings

    Hi,
I'm in the process of installing our ECC production server in a clustered environment on windows server 2008 with SQL server 2008 as our database.
The MSCS cluster at the OS level has been configured successfully. When I start the SQL server installation as mentioned in the installation guide, the Setup Support Rules fails with following warnings.
    1. The setup support file prompts me to set the MSDTC service as a clustered one but it was not mentioned anywhere in the installation guide that the MSDTC service needs to be clustered. Do I need to cluster that service with seperate network ip address and cluster group ?
    2. The Network binding order issues a warning even though the adapters are set up in the right order as mentioned in the installation guide.
    3. Eventhough there is a internet connectivity available in the server, the "Microsoft .Net Application Security" check issues a warning.
NB: As per the cluster validation report, the clustering at the OS level seems to be fine.
Please provide me your valuable suggestions to rectify these warnings. Can I ignore these warnings and proceed with the installation of SQL Server ?
    Regards,
    Varadharajan M

    Hi,
    Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator
Is is user by older versions of Mssql database.
From a SAP perspective you don't need this service.
You can ignore setup request for this service.
As per the reply, I understand that the MSDTC service is not mandatory to cluster in Windows Server 2008/MS SQL Server 2008. But when i try to install the SQL DB, the Set support rule ends up with warnings saying that the MSDTC service should be clustered. Can I ignore the warnings and proceed with the installation. Can anyone confirm this please ?
Also please confirm whether we need to have the db cluster group in the DNS before initiating the SQL Server Set up.

  • Cluster Network 2 is missing from Failover cluster Manager

I have two node Windows 2008 R2 SP1 MS SQL cluster, there was an issue with one node NIC card which was replaced and since then "Cluster Network 2" is not visible in failover cluster manager, also Heartbeat and Public IP nic card of both nodes
are appearing in "Cluster Network 1" container. even though both network public and hearbeat are on differenet subnet, but still cluster detects it as one subnet. Need to know how to bring back "Cluster Network 2"

After replacing NIC, cluster worked fine on other node for couple of days and then cluster services started terminating on both the nodes.
when checked cluster logs found below error.
"ERR   [CORE] Node 2: exception caught AlreadyExists(183)' because of 'already exists'(AODBP2DB1 - Local Area Connection)"
Hence to correct this problem, renamed both nodes NIC cards as Public and Private and cluster was started and tested the failover also. but since then only able to see "Cluster Network 1" and all NIC are listed under this container.
Though when looked at cluster validation report, it shows Cluster Network 1 and Cluster Network 2 entries in it

  • Microsoft update KB 3002657 and 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization

After installing Microsoft update KB 3002657 on my Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization, nodes in cluster lost connection to CSV and all my VM's were moved to node owning the volume.
I lost whole day to solve that problem.
But should i keep that update not installed on cluster nodes or anyone maybe has a solution for that ?

    Hi a3pl,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior from the cluster perspective. Please offer us
more information such as the failover cluster validation error, the failover error event ID, with the current information it is difficult to presume which part may cause this issue, we strongly suggest you install the following update when you use failover
    cluster.
