Fails to connect, forgets password

I have a 2G Touch with 3.1.1 software. This problem was happening before the 3.1.1 upgrade, but does seem to be happening a bit more frequently since.
There are several Wi-Fi networks I connect to regularly, but have a problem with only one. That is the one at my office, which uses an older D-Link router. It's not unusual to have to try a couple of times before connecting, and I blame the router for that. However, sometimes when it fails to connect, the iPod then seems to forget the password. That is, the connection fails and when I try again, it asks for the password. That works, and it continues to work on subsequent tries until a day or two later when it fails and demands the password again.
Not much I can do about the router, but it seems to me that the iPod should remember the password, even after a failed connection. I've tried resetting the network settings, restarting the iPod, forgetting the network and re-entering it. Nothing improves the problem.
Any suggestions?

Similar issue has hsppen to my 2 gen itouch after 3.1.1 update. If the ssid is not broadcasted, itouch wont remember the network name.
Network at work, the ssid is not broadcasted and there is no password for the network. Every time after I put itouch to sleep, I will need to enter the network name again when I turn on the itouch. The 1st gen itouch without 3.1.1 update doesn't require me input the network name over and over.
Just tested the home network. Everything works fine if I have ssid broadcasted. Once I hide the ssid, itouch wont pick up the network at all until I manually type in the network name. It also forgets the password as well just like what posthocergopropterhoc had mentioned.
I am very positive that firmware 2.2.2 does pick up hidden ssid once it has been entered once. However, I will double check again with my friend's itouch again tomorrow and post the confirmation.
I am not sure if Apple purposely design 3.1.1 upgrade to act this way, but its for sure very inconvenient. Especially when it says on itouch network interface that "Known networks will be joined automatically". I do consider I know my own network even if the ssid is hidden for privacy reason.

  • Failed to connect to /@   Check the password in the user"s Creation Options

    I am using the migration workbench to migrate to a new database. I was able to run this migration successfully to transfer the table data only. Now when I try to run this same configuration a second time to transfer over the indexes, I am getting this error. I am migrating from sybase, if it makes any difference. I have gone to the user Creation Options and retyped passwords to see if that helped, but it did not make a difference.
    Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

    Hi there,
    There is a bug here (Failed to connect when migrating schema objects) which will be fixed in the next release of the workbench in SQL Developer.

  • Mail app intermittently fails to connect - internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password. Why?

    Running 10.10.2 on early 2011 MBP, 8 GB RAM.
    Mail app intermittently fails to connect - message: internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password.  No problem with iPhone to connect same 3 accounts. Have run Disk Utility and rebooted. What is happening?

    Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.
    The REAL REASON, which can no longer be overlooked, is that Apple's (probably underpaid sweatshop Chinese) employees build toys for grown-ups and do little more than that.  I wish I had never bought my Mac (2009) since few things about Apples are "intuitive" unless you've been an Apple cultist since Jobs introduced the first Mac.  Oh, and because things mysteriously stop working, something I don't recall happening with any of the PCs I've owned.
    Apple's version of Excel is a total joke and on an update that I did not ask for, the "Save As" feature, a convention that was 30 years old and worked well, was removed in favor of "Duplicate, Rename, Save."  What 22 year-old Apple product manager was allowed to make this change?
    I foolishly compounded my Mac purchase error by buying an iPhone 4S.  On that lovely ($200 Verizon-subsidized) product, I can no longer discover my home network, rendering my ($100) Airplay for outdoor music useless.  (But I probably can post a picture directly to Facebook or something!  More toyish behavior in which Apple specializes.)  Can I get support on these POS with a phone call?  No, I need to rely on a Aapl cultist to devise some esoteric key combo or a "jailbreak" on a Support board or blog site.
    I'm eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/13 and I'm counting the days.  Will upgrade to a good large-screen laptop asap as well and then throw the Mac out my office window.  Junk, just junk.  Apple's stock is at $433 from $700 and it's still overpriced.  How long will this rant last before it's sanitized by the Cupertino Big Brother? Maybe what the children who design product ought to do instead is BUILD BETTER STUFF.

    Since you changed networks and the path to your Time Capsule from your Mac has changed, did you remember to reset Time Machine to "tell" your Mac how to "find" your Time Capsule?
    If you are not sure, please perform the following check on your Mac:
    Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Time Machine
    Make sure that Time Machine is "ON"
    Click Select Disk
    Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use for Backup
    Backups should continue in a few moments, but I am not sure how your password changes will affect this. A bit more tweaking may be needed.

  • My HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m failed to connect wirelessly to my router

    When setting up my printer to connect to my wireless router, the printer can see the network Name (SSID) but failed to connect to it using WEP password.  The Wireless Network Report shows the printer Authentication Type is "Open System" while my router is configured as "Shared".  How do I change the Authentication Type on my printer to match the Router? Thank you.

    WEP is not at all secure.  It can be broken in about 10 minutes with freeware.  It is also known to cause printer connection issues.
    Change to WPA or WPA2 with a 13+ character passphrase consisting of numbers, letters, upper and lower case.

  • IMac fails to connect automatically to WiFi network

    This is a re-submission of this request for help because I got no response the first time around.
    The trouble began after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Prior to the upgrade I was running 10.5.8 and the airport wireless card would reconnect perfectly every time the computer woke up. After the change to 10.6, it's hit and miss. Sometimes after waking up, the computer will find my wireless router and connect with no problem. On other occasions it will not. Here's what I've observed:
    When it fails to connect, if I immediately click on the wireless icon on the menu bar it will show no wireless networks at all, not mine, not any of my three neighbors, none. If I wait a few seconds (less than a minute) they will suddenly be detected. At that point clicking on my network will result in an immediate connection. I do not know why it takes so long for the Airport card to detect the networks, but that's not the issue. It eventually does. The problem is that the iMac has stopped trying to connect by then.
    How can I get the computer to keep trying to log on (at least periodically) until it succeeds?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    -John

    Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • Mail Fails To Connect In My Office Network, Works on Reboot

    This is baffling me and my network admin:
    Mail fails to connect to any of my accounts at work. But it recovers if I reboot my machine.
    Here is what happens:
    - Mail works just fine at home. Connects to gmail, iCloud, and a 3rd party email account no problems.
    - I get to the office
    - I log in to the office WiFi with my password - for this I have to open a browser window, and enter my credentials.
    (I kind of assume that this is the problem ^^)
    - All my internet connections work fine, I can use the browser to access Gmail etc
    - Mail refuses to connect to any of my email servers, and all accounts go offline
    - Connection Doctor says "Mail can connect to the internet" but all individual connections are red, not reachable. I checked "detail" too - its empty.
    Then I reboot my Mac, and after that everything's happy. Mail connects to my accounts normally, and Connection Doctor marks all as green.
    Since it works on reboot, we can rule out network problems like closed ports etc. So the only thing I can think of is that Mail initially tries to connect as soon as I am on WiFi, then hangs (because I am not logged in yet), and somehow this hang is of a kind that does not recover (I've left it on for hours at a time, no difference, it never recovers).
    Anyone have any ideas about this? Is there some way I can restart networking daemons to kill the hung connections. Or any other way I can diagnose this?

    A captive portal, which is what you have, can work in any of at least three ways: by HTTP redirection, IP redirection, or DNS poisoning. I'm guessing that yours is the last type. In that case, a TTL of zero should be used. If the TTL is non-zero, then Internet applications may not work until the DNS cache is flushed. That happens when you reboot.
    You should discuss the possibility with your network admin. If the network configuration isn't going to be changed, you may be able to avoid the need to reboot by flushing the DNS cache manually, as described in the article linked below:
    OS X: How to reset the DNS cache

  • Ipad2 'fails to connect' to my Wifi.

    My Ipad2 'fails to connect' to my Wifi whereas my Iphone 3GS successfully connects and works without issue on the same router. Wifi is WEP encrypted with 26 character code. The Ipad 2 sees the network, yet will not connect. I have tried the 'reset network settings' option and I'm looking for any further suggestions?

    The process of checking your router settings depends on the router you have.  You will need the manual that came with your router.  If you don't have one, you probably can download a manual from the router manufacturer's website.
    Basically the process is starting your web browser on a computer that is connected to your network.  Entering the IP address of the router in the web address line.  Usually the IP address of the router is the same as the IP address of the computer connected to your network except the last number is 1.  For example if the IP address of the computer is 192.168.0.132, then the IP address of the router would be 192.168.0.1.
    The next question you may have is how do you find the IP address of the computer. If you have a Windows computer, go to Start/Run or Start/Programs/Accessories/Run. Type in "CMD" (no quote marks) and press the Enter key.  A DOS window will appear.  At the command prompt type "ipconfig" and press the Enter key.  The resulting listing should show you the IP address of the computer and the IP address of your router (listed as Default Gateway.)  If you have a Mac I can't help you, because I don't have a Mac, but I'm sure someone on this forum would be able to help.
    Once you enter th IP Address of your router, you should get a login screen.  You will need to log into the router.  Note that the login password is not the network passcode.  If you do not know the Admin login name and password and you are sure no one has changed the password from the default, the router manual will have this information.
    When you are logged into the router you need to consult the router manual to find out how to check the settings.  If purchance you have a D-link DIR-625 I can help.

  • New install of sqldeveloper 3.0.04.34 fails to connect

    I exited the running sqldeveloper 3.0.03.45, and started the sqldeveloper exe for 3.0.04.34 which I have just downloaded and unzipped.
    It asked to import settings.
    When I try to open the imported connection to scott/tiger@//lambda/ora10 (where lambda is my local db server), I get this error text in a dialog box.

    D:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin>.\javac.exe -version
    javac 1.6.0_23
    How do I make this version of sqldeveloper work? What can I try next to help diagnose this problem?

    I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of Instant Client 11.2.0.2.0 and added it to my path in place of the 11.1 client.
    sql_developer 3.0.04.34 now works. However, sql_developer 2.1.1.64.45 now fails to connect with this error dialog:
    +--------------------------------------------------------------

    | An error was encountered performing the
    | requested operation:

    |
    | Vender code 0
    |
    +--------------------------------------------------------------
    I suspect this is the reason I continued to use the 11.1 instant client. I could not easily evaluate the two versions of sql_developer when I also had to switch the instant client. My perception of the early adapter label is that it was another name for public beta. And that means: have a fall back option.
    What do you mean by a regular simple connect? The scott/tiger@//lambda/ora10 connect string works when i run .\sqlplus.exe from all four of the instant clients I have here (10.2.0.4.0, 11.1.0.7.0, 11.2.0.1.0 and 11.2.0.2.0). My db server is on a linux box, but I run the client on a windows box.
    Sorry about the duplicate thread.

  • Hyper-V Remote Admin on a Domain - Failed to connect to root\cimv2

    I'm trying to configure our Hyper-V server so that a user on our domain has administrative control.  Our Hyper-V server is on the domain running 2008 R2 (named SERVER85 below), and the client is on Win 7 Ent x64 (named DEV03 below, username accuraty\jkessel).
    In the output below you can see that it appears we might have a problem with this user's access to the WMI path root\CIMv2, but if I pull up the advanced security settings for that node in WMI, I see:
    Name: Justin Kessel ([email protected])
    Apply to: This namespace and subnamespaces
    Permissions allowed: "Enable Account" and "Remote Enable" (no others, no denies).
    IMHO, the server, the desktop, and user are all fairly "vanilla" with nothing unusual going on.  Maybe one thing worth noting: our Small Business Server 2008 (i.e. domain controller) is running as a VPS on SERVER85, so SERVER85 never boots with the
    domain controller on.  This hasn't ever caused problems except that the machine always thinks it's firewall should be in the "work" configuration instead of the "domain" configuration.  I tested running the HVRemote script while the SERVER85 firewall
    was turned off, and I get exactly the same results below.
    One more note: this user currently can logon through RDP to SERVER85 and administer Hyper-V just fine.  This user is *not* a domain admin or an admin on that server - I've simply provided him with the right permissions to be able to RDP and admin Hyper-V
    only.
    We used HVRemote and it output this info when run on the client:

    ***** Namespace: root\cimv2
         FAIL - Was unable to connect. Diagnosis steps:
         - Have you run hvremote /add:user or hvremote /add:domain\user
           on server85 to grant access?
         - Are you sure the server name 'server85' is correct?
         - Did you use cmdkey if needed? More information higher up.
         - Did you restart server85 after running hvremote /add for
           the very first time? (Subsequent adds, no restart needed.)
         - Is DNS operating correctly and was server85 found?
           Look at the output of tests 1 and 2 above to verify that the
           IPv4 address matches the output of 'ipconfig /all' when run on
           server85. If you do not have a DNS infrastructure,
           edit \windows\system32\drivers\etc on DEV03
           to add an entry for server85.

    2: You *may* need to set credentials for access to the server

  • Runtime repository connects on remote system fails in connection

    Hi,
    I've created runtime repository and access users and target schema on linux server through owb server install. Sqlplus onnections from my window2k PC work OK for all 3 users.
    I created a second runtime repository connection from my owb designer on windows2k system. When I bring up deployment manager and try to connect to the remote target through this connection, it fails with RTC-5260:failed to connect to runtime platform...,and ORA_01017:invalid username/password. Also, I notices a java thread on the remote linux server was created each time I tried the connection .
    I have the connection alias under both OWB and OracleDB tnsnames. What's the problem?

  • Add-On connection for Journal Entry - Failed to Connect to SBO Common

    We have a customer (SAPBO 2005A SP01 PL29) with some specific requirements that required an add-on running in the background to monitor the addition of Goods Receipt PO's to the system. When the GRPO is successfully added, the Add-On will (behind the scenes) create an appropriate Journal Entry through the SAP DI. One of the issues that we encountered during the development of this functionality was that when it was tested by users, they weren't authorized to access the Financials module or the Journal Entry screen. What we ended up doing was creating a secondary connection (vCompany) in the DL pulling the information from the encrypted user information from SAP the Add-On used to connect, but utilizing a management level user ID and password. Once that connection has been made, the Journal Entry is added through the DI and that secondary connection is disconnected.
    The problem that we're encountering is this. When the users are logged into SAP Client with an regular user, and the GRPO adds, the secondary connection fails and returns a message of "Failed to Connect to SBO-Common". However, if the user is logged into SAP as an adminitrative level user and the GRPO is added, the secondary connection is successful and the Journal Entry is created. The secondary connection is strictly used for the JE. Here's the code (VS.Net 2005) for the secondary connection:
    vCompany = New SAPbobsCOM.Company
    vCompany.UseTrusted = True
    vCompany.language = SAPbobsCOM.BoSuppLangs.ln_English
    vCompany.CompanyDB = oCompany.CompanyDB
    vCompany.UserName = "XXXXX"
    vCompany.Password = "YYYYY"
    vCompany.Server = oCompany.Server
    vCompany.DbServerType = SAPbobsCOM.BoDataServerTypes.dst_MSSQL2005
    lRetConnect = vCompany.Connect()
    Where "XXXXX" would be the appropriate management level SAP User Name and "YYYYY" would be that users password.
    Has anyone else had this kind of issue where you needed a secondary connection with management level access behind the scenes to accomplish something in SAP and had problems getting it to connect? Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dennis,
    what you can try is to make a untrusted connection
    oCompany.UseTrusted = False
    and set the DBUser and Pwd
    oCompany.DbUserName = "sa"
    oCompany.DbPassword = "insertpwd"

  • SSIS job fails on connection to target db - works in debug

    the ongoing saga...
    I have a web application developed through VS 2012 which has a button on a form that when operated starts a SQL Server agent job on the server that runs an SSIS package.  The website and the instance of SQL Server with the agent and SSIS package are
    on the same windows 2008 r2 server.  When the button is operated no exceptions are raised but the SSIS package did not execute.  The SQL Server Agent job owner is sa ...that seemed to resolve some issues as originally I had the owner being another
    admin on the same box.  Now the job seems to be failing on connect to the target database on an IBM iSeries DB2 server.  The job runs fine in debug connecting to the db and doing its task successfully.
    The log indicates that the user specified in the connection manager is using an invalid password or is otherwise unable to connect, although it works fine in debug mode and save password is specified.  I use BIDS remote desktoped to the server
    when developing and debuging.
    Can anyone show me whats wrong now?  Thanks much in advance for any help, Roscoe

    Hi Arthur, Thanks for the reply,
    BIDS would not let me save the package with ProtectionLevel of ServerStorage giving error...
    Failed to apply package protection with error 0xC0014061 "The protection level, ServerStorage, cannot be used when saving to this destination. The system could not verify that the destination supports secure storage capability.". This error occurs when saving
    to Xml.
     (vbTestsmall)
    ...but it would let me change the ProtectionLevel to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword so I did that and provided the jobstep in the agent with the password and the agent was able to run successfully.
    Thanks for all the help...I will follow your blog, Roscoe
