Fails to recognize screen

My iMac's screen went black, so I hooked it up to an external monitor. I go into the Displays Preferences and see that the external monitor is the only monitor the computer recognizes. This happened as I just went out of the 3year warranty. HELP.

I just started having the same problem. Let me know what you find out.

  • PSE7 Editor fails to recognize screen size. Can this be reset?

The editor program in PSE7 does not properly recognize the screen size of my monitor.  Some photos and parts of menus fall outside the viewable area to the right side.  How can this be fixed? Can some setting be easily changed?  Do I need to reload some part of the program?

    Hi,
First of all, the physical size of the screen is not really relevant. If the resolution is set to 1920 x 1080, it still has the same number of pixels whether the screen is 22" or 24". The editor will also work on smaller screens, down to 1024 x 768 I think.
Does your screen look anything like this?
If you screen looks like that, thedouble click I spoke of earlier should be done where the red arrow is.
A screenshot of your screen might help.
The size and position of the window can normally be controlled by windows - the editor will supply a starting point but you should have control over the window.
Have you ever used an additional monitor?
    Brian
ps. Sorry, but I can only go to PSE 9 but I think PSE 7 should be similar

  • Startx on a vmware is throwing a "failed to create screen resources"

    The Bottom line error is:
    Fatal server error:
[ 1431.076] (EE) failed to create screen resources(EE)
I am trying to get a browsers running on my new Arch Linux, so I can cut and paste better for questions. I have installed xorg, chromium, firefox. If I try and start "startx", it say the server did not start. I think it is the failed to create screen resources.
I have edit the video settings to give it 32meg of memory. Also I hack the .vmx file to enable the 3d opttion. I have installed all the vmtools (open version) Again, new to Arch Linux so I sure it is something stupid.
Not sure if it helps but here are the errors when I try and run the browsers.

Thanks, that all sounds correct to me, unfortunalte I can't provide more help as I've never used vmware.  But a couple pointers for pacman use:
There is no need to use that pipe, `pacman -Q <searchterm>` will work.
The reason you don't see the mouse package is that grep is case sensitive.  `pacman -Q | grep -i vmware` should also show the mouse package, but this would be much easier as `pacman -Qs vmware` which allows pacman to do the search.  Pacman's search is case-insensitive by default and is a bit more effient that listing all packages and grepping through them.
Got it. Yes using the 'vmware' the vmmouse shows up. Also searching 'svga' shows Mesa DRI drivers. That is another advantage for letting pacman search, since my search term was svga and what was dispalayed did not have that in the string, pacman search can see behind the covers. :-)
All this learning is good, now if I could just figure out why 'startx' is failing to create screen resource. ;-)
Question, does it matter what tty it starts on? I am using 0 (obvious from the log name), could that be an issue? Just thinking out loud.

  • W500 w/ Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate fails to recognize some audio CDs

My DVD/CD drive (a HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-U20N) in my Lenovo W500 laptop (running Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate) fails to recognize some audio CDs.
It recognizes most audio CDs, but a few are not recognized by Windows 7 itself, or by any other program on my computer.
These CDs are recognized by other Windows 7 computers.
I don't think that it's a copy protection issue, since the CDs don't mention any copy protection scheme (and also since they work on other Windows 7 machines).
One CD that wasn't recognized by my machine was the second CD from a two CD set (the first CD was correctly recognized).
I have the latest updates for Windows, and all my programs, drivers, BIOS & firmware.
    Thanks.

What kind of behavior are you getting from the drive? If it's spinning up, down, and up again your lens might be dirty or the drive could be failing.
If you do clean the lens, be careful. Do your research first or you might make it worse.
    Edit: Replacements are:
    42T2511 or 42T2541 (DVD)
    42T2543 or 42T2513 (DVD/CD-RW combo)
    42T2545, 42T2515 or 42T2551 (DVD-RAM/RW)
You can get the 42T2543 for $23 and the 42T2545 for $45 on eBay.

i iPad 3 fails to recognize cellular data In a number of locations Displays "searching and No Service" I have narrowed this to device problem. What can I do?

    Hello there, OSOSANYA.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great checklist of steps and additional recommendations for troubleshooting issues with cellular connection:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3780
Follow these steps for help troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Scandisk or defrag fail to recognize hd volume

    hello all, and happy holidays.
i've had this issue b4 but didnt pay too much attention to it, but now it has happened again so i am a bit bothered.
i have seagate 7200.7 120GB sata drive with ncq hooked to the nvidia sata controller #2.
The drive has 8 volumes (c-j), c,d,e,g,h are ntfs, the others fat32.
Sometime when my computer hangs and i've to reset it, scandisk fails to recognize some volumes (totally random this time f,i, always fat32) as valid win xp volumes.
I can still open these volumes and read and write to them, but cant run defrag (i use disk keeper pro) on them, or for that matter anyother hdd tools like windows scandisk etc.
Now when ever i reboot, scandisk kicks in complaining that it cant scan non-xp drives.
My options include turning off scandisk, reformatting (loads of data on them, really not a good option), find out whats causing it!!
So anyone here help me work on option three
Rest of the system is in the signature.
    thanks.

    Hello again tcdm1972,
This quote from a MicroMat technician is misleading and makes me wonder about abusingly promoting defragmentation (and using their products) as so necessary.
Yes, in certain rare cases one might benefit from defragmenting HD and HD free space, but in Mac OS X it is not so black and white question.
    - In the more general usage of Mac OS X, defragmentation is actually counter-productive and defeats the very clever way Mac OS X has to rewrite every file on-the-fly onto the best possible location at this very moment, each time an application uses it.
Best location on the hard drive varies, depending on many more criteria than the simple contiguity.
About the term "optimization" in Apple software installs:
I find it misleading too, as all it optimizes is the launching of applications in Mac OS X
(it's the "update_prebinding" command really, nothing to do with defragmentation).
    About OnyX, Yasu etc:
These too are small utilities to run quite harmless Terminal commands. They don't play in the same fields, nothing neither to do with defragmentation.
DiskWarrior too has yet another approach: Directory handling.
So, your original question about using iDefrag:
    On their website they state
"To defragment your boot volume, you need to boot from a different volume"
    as I said.
In your case, the solution is clear:
since you have two boot partitions on your HD,
    - boot from Partition 1 to defrag Partition 2,
    and
    - boot from Partition 2 to defrag Partition 1.
That is, a copy of iDefrag installed on each of your Mac OS X volumes.

  • Photoshop CC sometimes fails to recognize Nvidia card (GT 730M)

I run Photochop CC on my laptop and Photoshop sometimes fails to recognize Nvidia card (GT 730M), and I get an Intel driver crush notification.I set the Nvidia cardas prefered one for Photoshop and it still fails. Drivers are up to date. Any way to fix the issue?

If the Intel is the onboard graphics processor you could try disabling it in Device Manager and BIOS, and let the Nvidia card operate alone..

  • Superdrive Sometimes Failing to Recognize DVDs

I've had my MacBook Pro for about 15 months and the Superdrive is now sometimes failing to recognize blank media, or ejecting commercial DVD's after playing the movie for a few minutes. Obviously the warranty has expired and I'm thinking of buying an external drive if the problem can't be fixed inexpensively. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am having same problem. After updating to OS 10.5.2, my SuperDrive in my MacBook 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo will not play any DVD or Enhanced CD. (It will play audio CDs.)
For me, this is DEFINITELY an Apple software/firmware issue. When a DVD wouldn't play in my MacBook SuperDrive, I would instead use my MacMini successfully, which was running OS 10.4.x. I recently updated the MacMini by cloning my MacBook to it, and viola, succeeded in replicating the exact problem.
Also curious, my MacBook SuperDrive almost worked the first time I put my first DVD into it. DVD Player asked to set the region, which I did. It then refused to play the DVD or any other media DVD/CD subsequently.
I have no solution yet, but will share with all when I do.

  • Win 8.1 OS fails to recognize OJ Pro 8625 is installed

Had previously installed an OJ Pro 8600, and uninstalled it before purchasing and installing an OJ Pro 8625. Win 8.1 fails to recognize that the 8600 is no longer installed (printer & fax icon are still visible on the Printer Control Panel page).
Is there a scrubber to remove the 8600? I suspect vestiges of the 8600 are preventing the 8625 from being fully installed/recognized by Win 8.l.
    Please advise a fix.
    Thank you

Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us!
I understand you are looking to uninstall your 8600 entirely and then install your 8625. Just so you know computers are capable of have several printers installed on them at a time so having the 8600 installed on the computer wouldn't stop the 8625 from being installed.
Follow these documents I have linked you to below to do what you are asking about. You may need to click the

  • Android Update -- now fails to recognize SD Card!

Android did an automatic update yesterday, and suddenly failed to recognize the SD Card.  It keeps telling me the card has been removed and that I need to insert a new one.
This device has been rebooted, cache cleared, card viability verified.  What gives?

        Hi dont-have-time-for-this,
SD card issues are no fun, I feel you! I also have a Galaxy S3 and when I received my software update I did a factory reset http://bit.ly/LfV00q after installation to prevent any system conflicts and post update issues, and I have not experienced any issues with my SD card. Try it and keep us posted.

  • Mail fails to recognize names from address book

My information in address book shows as follows
    Name: J Doe
    Email address: [email protected]
If someone has me in their address book as Doe John and sends an email to me at my email address ([email protected]), Mail.app does not recognize me and asks me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'.
The same happens if a sender has a minor change in the Name (such as even a dot in the name) of any recipient, regardless of the fact that I have the correct name in the address book. Mail fails to recognize the recipient even though the email address is identical, and will ask me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'.
One would expect Mail to use just the email address and recognize the contact as already being in the Address Book.
I just spent a good three hours investigating this.
There have been numerous posts discussing this both here and elsewhere over the years but I'm surprised that there has not been a solution. Here are some examples..
    1. Mail can't recognize my contact email address
    2. Address Book editing
    3. Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book
In the 3rd example above, Golden Shoes suggests that this is the same for every email client, but I must disagree because Postbox and Thunderbird does display the information correctly from the Address Book, infact Postbox does this impressively I must add.
It would be great if this was fixable in Mail. Is there a solution for this?

    I followed your suggestions.
Both AB and AB within Mail were empty of contacts after I deleted my iCloud contacts from the mac. I even did a reboot just in case. After this, I rechecked contacts and all my contacts appeared again both in AB and AB within Mail.
I quit and reopened Mail to find that the problem still persisted. I know and rechecked that these contacts are not present in my previous recipients list so it is definitely not that database which is preventing this.
The funny thing (maybe not funny since this is really bugging me) is that Mail on iOS (iPhone) works just fine. The Mail on iPhone seems to query the sender/recipient email address, accurately realizes that the contact is already in the AB, and shows as such. The same email in Mail.app on the mac asks me if I want to add the contact to AB.
Is this really a unique situation? Is everyone else not experiencing the same?
If you ask someone to change your name within their address book and send an email to you, does Mail on the mac recognize you regardless of what that sender named you as? Or does it ask you to add to AB?
