Failure: Cannot login after Lion 10.7.2 update

I cannot login after performming the update realeased today.
After boot, at the login screen, I see the user in the circles. Upon selecting a user, entering the password, the spinning circle below the Apple appears. It spins for a few mnutes, then return with a NOT symbol as the spinner contues to spin endlessly. After a while, the fan kicks into overdrive.
I tried to do the boot in recovery, start terminal, resetpassword, restart, login as root steps, but do not see an option to login as root upong restart - just the User circle icon.

I have a similar problem, but it looks like I have solved it.
I rebooted holding down ommand-R to get to the recovery-HD mode.  From there I chose the options to re-install Lyon (requires internett access because it downloads a new copy).
Since I have multiple disks attached (the internal and a bootable backup drive) it asked which disk I wanted to use.  When I chose the internal drive it told me it was locked and asked for the FileVault unlock code.  After that things seemed to proceed properly.
I suspect that the problem is in some way tied to my use of FileVault.

  • Cannot login after Lion Update

After completing the Lion update, I attempted to login into my primary account. After getting the spinny for a while in the password box, the screen turned grey with a "faded" login photo for my account, then went completely grey, then I was returned to the login screen.
Fortunately I have a separate account on my machine and have been able to log in with that account.
Both of these accounts are FileVaulted. The administrative aspects of this primary account still seem functional, since I'm able to do things like (once I'm logged into the secondary account) open Software Update. I can also ssh into my primary account. But If I try to User-Switch using the user-switching menu in the upper-right corner of the screen to my primary account, I see very similar behavior. I get a grey screen, followed by a flash of the standard spiral-galaxy background, followed by a grey screen and a return to the login screen.
It seems like trying to go through one of the initialization steps on my primary account is failing.
Obviously, I'm pretty disappointed with this outcome. Anyone else seeing anything like this? Any pointers on how to further diagnose?

From MacRumors Forums.  Sounds like a similar-enough issue to give this a try (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1191239):
    I got the answer here
    Ok step 1
Boot your mac with Option + R holding it will boot into recovery mode
Step 2 go into disk util and take terminal
    write resetpassword
Choose root and put a password to log on root
Reboot the mac and log in as root and root password that you've done
Go in System Preference then users and group
Create a new account with the SAME NAME and SAME PASSWORD as your old account and put it as an administrator
When you accept it will say that in MacHD you already have an account with the same name do you want to use THAT folder
You say YES it will take 3 mnutes about.
Then log off and your account will be there, select it and put the password
It will log and all your files will be there.
That is what i done and it worked, my desktop docs and itunes is all there
And for the time i took
They refunded my Lion purchase and will send me a 50$ itunes store card
    Gotta love it hehe
    Sorry for the bad english

  • Cannot login after installing 10.6.1 Update

    Hello everybody,
    i installed the 10.6.1 Update from Software-Update.
After rebooting, i entered my password and then...
nothing happens. It seems that i am logged in successfully,
but nothing load up, i can still move my mouse, but the only
thing i see, is the standart SL wallpaper.
    what i tried:
    - repair permissions, etc. (booted from DVD)
    - cleared caches
    - created a completely new useraccount, but the same problem
    - starting in safe boot mode (works perfectly)
Has anyone an idea, what this problem could be and how
    I can solve it?
Thank you all for your help in advance
    Best regards
    Ben

i created the new account in system-preferences with my normal account(admin)
    in safe-boot mode.
i reinsatalled the Update, nothing changed...
very strange: I reinstalled Snow Loepard over the existing SL installation, and the problem still exists.
So i think, it's a problem in my homedirectory?
But why exists the problem at a new account?
    Don't understand this...
Perhaps the easiest way is to save my private data and do a complete
    new install...

  • Internet sharing no longer works after Lion 10.7.4 update

Internet sharing no longer works after Lion 10.7.4 update. Hopefully Apple will fix this shortly. Little excuse for this kind of screw-up.

    so here is da answer
    1. go to finder>(computer name)>macintosh HD>library>preferences
    2. copy the entire systemconfiguration folder and systemconfiguration.old folder to your desktop
    3. restart mac and device which you share intenet to
then you have internet that is about 3x slower than the da 10.7.3 intenet sharing, but works
then, just wait for apple to release da 10.7.4 fixed
    please use da steps!

after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?

I've had a similar problem.  On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4,  Firefox would not open.  Crashed every time.  Safari was not affected.  I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what fixed it: a second boot up.

  • Hardware Failure - Cannot login to Folio Builder

I was having problems with DPS App Builder - that problem was mysteriously solved.
Yesterday I had a catastrophic hardware failure when my MacBook Pro's screen died. I had to move my harddrive to a new MacBook Pro.
After moving my harddrive, I could no longer login to the Folio Builder Panel in Indesign CS6 (CC subscription). I decided to
deactivate, uninstall InDesign and reinstall, removing preferences, and ensuring that all updates had been applied. I have
done that I am still getting the message:
Sign In has failed. Network failure. Then after I hit OK, I get: Sign Out has failed. Network failure.
I can login to the Digital Publishing Suite Dashboard and the Digital Publishing Folio Producer, but I cannot
login to the Folio Buidler Panel. DPS App Builder continues to work without a problem.
It seems as if these tools are TOO TOUCHY which leads to a lot of wasted time.
    What's going on?

    Try This:
Quit InDesign and any other CS apps.
Use the Activity Monitor to quit the CS5ServiceManager or CS5.5Service Manager.
Next delete this file based on version: (Back up the file just in case.)
    Note:
    For example:
    /Users/"your user name"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
    /Users/"your user name"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5.5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
Then remove this item from the Keychain Access based on version: Adobe CS5 renga or Adobe CS5.5 renga.
To remove from the keychain, navigate to: /Applications/Utilities and launch the Keychain Access.app
If the lock icon in the upper left appears locked, click it and enter your password to unlock it.
Select the “login” item in the Keychains list in the upper left.
Select “Passwords” from the category list.
Type “renga” in the search field in the upper right.
Lastly, select any matches and press the Delete key.

  • Folio Builder - cannot login after changing password

    Hi all,
I changed my password at acrobat.com, now I cannot login with the new password from the Folio Builder panel in InDesign CS5.5. I'm on Mac OSX 10.6.8. Basically, the panel shows "Signing in..." and the endlessly spinning wheel, which means it's hanging and doesn't let me re-enter my login credentials.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Folio Builder and Overlay Creator tools, and am running the latest versions of each.I've also tried trashing the INDD preferences. No luck. I'd like to avoid uninstalling/reinstalling InDesign CS5.5, but if that's the only solution, I'll do it.
I did create a new user on my machine and that worked — I was able to login successfully with my new login credentials. But moving my production files and recreating all my settings from my account to this new one would take a while, so I wanted to see if there was another solution.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Jason

    Hi John,
Yes, I can login successfully there. The problem also appears to be with the CS Review and Access CS Live panels in InDesign.
When I initially open the Folio Builder, I get the error dialog "Sign In had failed. [svr.InvalidLogin]". The CS Review and Access CS Live panels also report an internal error.
This happens in both InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 (both installed on the same computer). Could the CS5.5 and CS5 panels be sharing that info? I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled the panels from CS5, just from CS5.5, which might explain the error, if I need to also uninstall the CS5 panels/extensions.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • BB Z10 cannot charge after the 10.3.1 update

    Hi
I am having problem with my phone that cannot charge after the battery drained (Updated with 10.3.1). When I charge the phone, the LED will turn red, then the Blackberry logo appears and lastly the red battery logo appears telling me that the phone has no power. It keeps repeated many times.
    How to boot the phone?
    Please help me. Thank you.
    Solved!

I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader method:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)
Good luck and let us know!

  • AME Not showing Video in Preview after Lion 10.7.3 Update

I've been using AME daily for a few months working solid and fast now ran lion 10.7.3 update and lots of weird things happening. The most consistent is the video is not able to be viewed in the preview scree, however, if you hit encode it the video encodes sometimes fine other times just black. I read somewhere thet lion 10.7.3 included lots of video specific updates but this one screwed me.  Anyone have a work around? I tried compressor and that thing kept hanging too.
Are the prefs or something I can trash?  That use to work for some issues on FCP.

Ahhhh, I've had a somewhat similar issue with some software analysis tools I tried to install on my Lion laptop. Apple has altered Lion so it doesn't interrelate to windows code any more (in my basic layman's terms) and this is what has upset my software. I've been looking at upgrading from Leopard to Lion for my desktop, and then on to soon to be released Mountain Lion, so a fix for this is important. In fact it is likely to affect my idecision to purchase the elearnign suite. Best of luck on a speedy resolution.

  • Cannot login after upgrade

Seems to have been covered elsewhere, but not quite the same issue.
Updated to latest verison of Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro in preparation for installing Lion.
Installed Lion on MBP which all went perfectly and been using it for a week without problem. So, time to install on the Mac Pro.
First, installed it on a blank external disk connected to Mac Pro, as an emergency disk. At the end the MP would boot from that drive and I could log in with the single admin account that I had created. Looking good so far.
Rebooted into SL and installed Lion again, but on the main disc. No errors and was finally presented with the login screen, listing all the correct users. Selected a mobile user account (account is on local SL server) and I was able to type in the password, but then when pressing return (or clicking arrow on RHS of text box) the arrow is replaced with a spinning daisy wheel which spins forever.
Logged in remotely (which works fine) and rebooted machine. Tried to login with a local admin account, but same problem. I can however login in with the Guest account, but if I try to switch users to another more useful account, it's just a big grey blank screen.
So there is something up with Lion being able to log in to those existing accounts.
I tried to boot into safe mode (from the main HD), I get the progress bar which seems to be Lion's way of saying it's starting in safe mode, but then a while after the progress bar completes and vanishes, it reboots all by itself. If i just let it boot and try and login, I'm stuck again (it's obviously NOT in safe mode) and if I hold down shift again while rebooting, I get the progress bar and eventually another auto reboot and so on. IOW, it is NOT possible to fully safe boot.
Since the MBP contained the exact same accounts and it was bouind to the same server when it was upgraded, I cannot understand why it's such a problem on the MP, yet working perfectly on the MBP. Anyone shed any light on this?

Since my original post, I've re-installed Lion, but no improvement. I then clered out the caches as indicated elsewhere - no change. I then noticed that the Little Snitch utility was exiting and respawning continually so I moved out all LauchAgents and LaunchDaemons except for an Apple one for disc repair that also exists on my MacBook Pro on which I can login perfectly. The others did not exist on the MBP so I'm thinking they are the cause.
Even though I now don't have the error messages in /var/log/system.log about Little Snitch, it still gets stuck in the same place with the following entries:
Aug  8 19:08:17 macpros SecurityAgent[118]: Login Window login proceeding
Aug  8 19:08:18 macpros NetAuthAgent[161]: 3891612: (connectAndCheck) Untrusted apps are not allowed to connect to or launch Window Server before login.
Aug  8 19:08:18 macpros NetAuthAgent[161]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
Aug  8 19:08:18 macpros NetAuthAgent[161]: _RegisterApplication(), FAILED TO establish the default connection to the WindowServer, _CGSDefaultConnection() is NULL.
Aug  8 19:08:18 macpros com.apple.netauth.sys.gui[161]: _RegisterApplication(), FAILED TO establish the default connection to the WindowServer, _CGSDefaultConnection() is NULL.
Anyone suggest what is going wrong here?

  • Cannot Login after 10.4.11 Upgrade

I recently upgraded my G4 Quicksilver Power Mac from 10.3.9 to Tiger. The install DVD was for 10.4.6. The DVD installed fine, then I ran the system updater to get the remaining 10.4 updates. It updated Java no problem, then the Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) came back with an error saying the digital signature is incorrect. I then went to the Apple Support Downloads site, and attempted to download an update with Safari. I tried the combos for 10.4.8 thru 10.4.11, and all of them failed verification after attempting to open the download. Very strange. So I went to my macbook, downloaded the 10.4.11 combo update ok, and put it on the G4 with a thumb drive. It opened the dmg file fine, I ran the update, and the system re-booted. At some point before the login screen, it hung up and I had to power it down. After restarting, it now gets to the login screen, and sits there until I move the mouse pointer into the login window. It then hangs there with the spinning beachball. I'm not able to login at all. Same problem when booting in Safe Mode. I've used the DVD to startup the system, and can access the HD using a terminal window. I ran the disk utility, and the HD is fine. I looked at the system.log and don't see anything there that I can identify as something I can fix. There is a segmentation fault at time 22:57:47. I'm including the log below, maybe someone can get something from it. I thought I'd try to re-install the 10.4.11 combo update, and haven't been able to mount the dmg file while running off the DVD. To do that I need to create a root directory on the HD, but it's read-only when running from the DVD. While in the hung login state, I cannot remotely login to the G4 using ssh from my macbook.
So at this point I'm stuck short of trying to re-install from the DVD using the option to archive the current OS before install (the installer recognizes that it is now at 10.4.11, and so it won't do a normal simple install again.) I'd really like to try to fix what is there or figure out how to re-run the 10.4.11 update, before doing the archive/install/10.4.11 update again. Don't want to do all that and end up in the same place.
I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas. Below are the system profile and the system.log. Sorry for the long post. Thanks!!

Safe boot mode runs a directory check command similar to that used by Disk Utility's repair. In Tiger it ignores some stored information (cache) that is normally read that speeds up the boot process, and it moves some other caches to the trash. It also uses only System fonts and disables all Startup Items, third party items, and any Login Items.

  • 10.7.2 clean install: cannot login after sleep

so after getting bricked this morning, I have done a new clean install of Lion, updated to 10.7.2 and went to work. back I come, Mac is in sleep, and it does not accept my user password anymore.
    just great.
no file vault on this time.
10.7.2. is pure nightmare for me so far.
force reboot let me boot again (and log-in!).

I have the exact same issue- any help on how to fix this would be great.
In the meantime - I have found a workaround which is a bit of a pain - but allows you to keep your session going.
    1) When you come out of sleep and don't have the option to use the fingerprint login and the password doesn't work click on "switch user"
    2) When that screen comes up click on the arrow next to the red (shutdown) button and select "hibernate".
    3) After the machine hibernates resume windows by hitting any key
    4) You should now be able to sign in using your account password and resume your session.
This is not ideal - but until someone can come up with a real fix - it works and allows you not to have to restart windows and lose your session data.

  • After installing Yosemite, cannot login after wake from sleep mode

After upgrading to Yosemite this morning, I've had the problem that after the computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot log back in to use the computer because I can't enter my user password.  The screen looks fine after I press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse (I see the users and where I would type my password), but mouse clicks do not allow me to activate the password box (however, I do see the mouse pointer and can move it), and any buttons pressed on the keyboard have no effect.  If I shut the computer down, I can login without problem.  Any thoughts on how to resolve this?  I'd hate to have to turn the computer off every time I step away for 10 minutes...

  • Cannot Login after installing Leopard

    Hello,
I just installed Leopard, and after restarting I had the "blue screen" problem. I followed the instructions (removing the the "ApplicationEnhencer.bundle" file from the troubleshooting section on the Apple website), and after restarting, I was able to acces the login page.
After entering my personal password, I had the following message: "you have to restart you computer by pressing the start switch for several seconds".
The only thing I can do is to login via other users of this computer but I cannot access my own account anymore!
    Can somebody help me?
    Regards,
    Lins.

Are the other user accounts, admin accounts?

  • Cannot login after upgrading to Apex 3.1.2

I have installed the oracle-xe-10.2.1-1.0.i386.rpm onto a RedHat server using
    ]# rpm -ivh oracle-xe-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm
    Then I configure the database
    ]# /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
    Then I enable remote access
    EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETLISTENERLOCALACCESS (FALSE);
This appears to work properly and I can log into the Apex page at http://server:8080/apex/apex_admin
After this install I'm attempting to upgrade to Apex 3.1.2 and have attempted this several times. Each time, the result is that I can bring up the web page, but cannot authenticate. All that I see is "error on page" at the bottom left of the window. (IE6 or Firefox).
To complete the upgrade I do the following.
    ]$ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> @apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
After the install runs the last few lines are
Upgrade completed successfully no errors encountered.

Disconnected from Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 – Production
I have then stopped and restarted the oracle-xe
Then I have logged back in with sqlplus / as sysdba
    and run
@apxxepwd.sql or @apxchpwd (different attempts at the install)
After all of this appearing to run successfully, I cannot log into either the basic apex screen or the apex admin screen.
When it has failed, I have uninstalled the RPM and deleted the remanant folder.
    Then re-installed from scratch.
I'm new to oracle, and any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I get the followin errors while trying your suggestions.
