Failure captions don't display in Edit View.

I used to be able to see my halored failure captions when in Edit View, but suddenly, they no longer display. If I preview my project and see that the failure caption needs to be changed in some way (e.g., the size needs to be changed so that the text wraps more appropriately, the caption needs to be moved closer to the object it is supposed to be pointing to), the only way I can see where the failure caption is is to click in the vicinity of where I think it is so the handles are revealed or click the button it is associated with in the timeline. Neither the text or the halored shape/color displays. I have to right click on the selection and choose Edit Text to see the text, but when I try to resize the shape, the text disappears again. I can move the caption to where I think it should be, but I can't tell if I've put it in the right place until I preview the project again because I can't see it on the Edit View screen.

I found the answer to my own question! The image file was covering the failure captions. When I moved the image file to the bottom of the Timeline, I was able to see the failure captions.

Simulation-failure captions won't display

The failure captions won't disply in a simulation, only the hint caption. I removed other interacitve buttons and it still doesn't work.

I've created a simple project that recreates this issue, with hopes that someone here or someone from the Captivate team can take a look and see if I'm missing something, or acknowledge as a bug.

If you test the project, as is, the failure captions will not work. If you uncheck the "remain on top" box of the smart shape button on slide 1.. failure caps return. But, then the smart shape gets burried under other objects.

I'm not sure if I disabled something, but all of a sudden I can't see 650 files for my website. They appear in the remote view and they are also still in my root folder.

In Files Panel (Local View) click the plus sign next to your sitename to expand the site folder.

The toolbar displays File, Edit, View, etc. print too small & barely able to read. How to enlarge print. Also background color of toolbars hard to read. It is black. make larger?

Increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps to adjust the size of all fonts and other elements in Firefox. 
In current Firefox versions this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely.

You sound a tad desperate. I don't really understand what the problem is. Can you elaborate?
SharePoint has a security model that allows for many kinds of scenarios out of the box.
For example, in a list you can define that an item can only be edited by the person who created the item.
That's a basic SharePoint feature.
You can then use InfoPath to create display and edit views of the form. The display view can show only a few fields. The edit view can show all fields you want it to show.
If I am a member of a group who can create a new item in the list, I can create and edit a list item. I can only view (but not edit) all other items in the list.
It can all be configured. The key here is that you need to do a little bit of planning first, so you know what you want to achieve.
So, what's your plan?

Captivate 8 Failure Captions Glossary Widget

I've run into some apparent conflicts between the Glossary Widget and click box and button failure captions in Captivate 8.
The course uses the Captivate Glossary widget, which is placed on Screen 1 and set to "not visible", unless the user reveals it.
A button is available on Screen 2 and ff. for revealing the Glossary. It calls an Advanced Action whose main item is "Show the Glossary widget".
Later in the course there is a practice activity based on a software simulation. A scenario is provided and the user is asked what they should do next? There is a click box for the user to click, and a failure caption is supposed to appear if the user clicks in the wrong place. (Hint and Success captions are turned off.)
Here are the problems I'm having:
The button for opening the Glossary on Screen 2 was originally set to display for the rest of the project (i.e. on every screen starting from Screen 2). With that setting, the click boxes in the practice activity still work, but failure captions do not appear. If I turn off the "display for the rest of the project" setting, put a separate Glossary button on each screen, and send it to the bottom of the timeline, the failure captions begin working again. This is a big hassle that I would prefer to avoid, but obviously I will do it if necessary.
However, even with one Glossary button per screen, the failure captions work only if you never reveal the Glossary widget. If you actually reveal the Glossary widget, the failure captions no longer display, although as I said the click boxes continue to work in other respects. I tried changing out the click boxes for buttons that did the same job, but the same problem exists.
Has anyone experienced conflicts between widgets and click boxes? Any suggestions for how I might tackle this problem?

Right now the click boxes are set for infinite attempts. Other properties include:
Pause project until user clicks
Hand cursor on
Go to next slide on success
Show failure caption
Those properties all work except "Show failure caption". I've played with number of attempts and different caption types but to no avail.
RE: the Glossary versus the button that reveals the Glossary: you may be right that the Glossary per se is not causing the conflict, but I can't really tell. The button calls an advanced action with three steps:
Pause the project
Show the Glossary widget
Show a Close button for closing the Glossary widget (this is actually a SmartShape that's being treated as a button)
This Close button also calls a simple advanced action:
Hide the Glossary widget
Hide the Close button
Continue the project

Why is the click box Failure Caption Display property disabled?

Slide is 10 sec long. Click box appears at 7 sec, display to end, pause for response and failure caption, 2 attempts allowed before continuing.
Failure caption > Properties > Display time is disabled--and set to 10 sec.
Only want 3 sec with fade in and out 0.5 sec.
This in the only one of the entire collection of failure captions doing this. While I "fixed" the slide by just deleting this one and re-doing what works, I want to know why I could not access or edit the Display time.

I expected the failure caption to last 3 sec (since that was the default for all the failure captions to begin with). There are only 2 attempts allowed before proceeding to next slide.
So, Here's what was expected. Slide opens. Text caption must be read, then an instruction given. At 7 seconds the click box becomes active. the failure caption should be 3 sec duration with fade in and out set to .5 sec each. So if the viewer clicks inaccurately, the failure caption appears for as long as 3 seconds waiting for a response. Respond incorrectly again, the failure appears again for 3 sec then the project moves on to the next slide. If the viewer doesn't click, the slide just waits without generating a failure caption.
However, I don't know how the failure caption got set to 10 sec and I usually can modify the duration. The problem is that the duration property is disabled/not available to edit/not like the rest of the captions in the entire project. How do I activate it?

On my laptop running windows 7 most of the information has disappeared from the window - headings (file, edit, view, etc), address bar and navigation buttons - all i can see is tabs - how do i get the missing items to display

On my laptop running windows 7 all the info displayed at the top of the homepage window is missing. All headings, i. e. File, Edit View, etc. are gone. There is no address bar. There is no home button, refresh button, etc. My wife was using the machine when it happened so I don't know what she did. How do I restore these features?

Suggestion: Click Box needs option to display success/failure caption until next click

As it stands right now, if I want to put several click boxes on a page and have the success captions for each appear in the same location, I can only set the success/failure caption to display for a limited amount of time. That is the only way to make the text disappear from the screen. The problem is, I want to have several different click boxes. When the user clicks, the success caption should display. Then the user shoudl be able to click on another click box and have the success caption for that appear in the same location. The problem is the success caption from the previous click box may still be displayed (depending on how long it was set to display for). There really needs to be an option to select that says display until next click. It does no good to guess how long a user will want to read the success/failure text before they decide to click on another text box.
You have the same problem with audio. As it is right now, a user can click on several click boxes and have several different audio tracks playing simultaneously. There needs to be an option to disable the first audio track upon clicking the next click box.
I can't believe this problem hasn't been fixed before this. It is a very annoying problem. I never had half the problems I have with Captivate, when I used Authorware. If there is some kind of work-around I'd like to know what it is.

My suggestion would be that you think a little further outside the box to solve this 'issue'.
It appears to me that you want to display information in captions that appear and disappear based on user interaction, correct? AND you also want audio to play at the same time, but you don't want more than one audio track to play, correct?
To achieve what you want requires at least two separate mouse events. One event triggers the caption and audio to appear. The other must trigger any previous captions to disappear and immediately shut off their audio. Since you don't know which of your objects will be the first one interacted with by the user, all of them must be set up to check for any previously invoked captions and audio before turning on their own caption and audio.
Now all of this CAN be done using Captivate's variables and advanced actions. But there IS a much simpler solution staring you in the face. Why is it essential that all of this MUST happen with mouse clicks? Why not use mouse overs events instead?
Captivate provides rollover caption and rollover image objects for which you can attach audio to the object that appears on rollover. These objects have two mouse events (rollover and rollout). Rollover triggers the caption to appear so that the text displays and it's audio plays, while the rollout triggers the caption to disappear and automatically shut off the audio. This means that the user merely needs to move their mouse around the screen rolling over the hot spots to see information and hear audio. And if you just place a click box or button on the slide to pause the playhead, your user can spend as much time as they want reviewing the content before moving on. You don't have to worry about rewinding the playhead with Advanced Actions because clicks on your content objects would resume play.
These rollover objects can be set up in seconds with audio attached. I'm surprised more Captivate authors don't use them given how easy they are to apply in comparison to other click-driven solutions using Advanced Actions.

How can i display a portlet in the Edit view only ?

I'm developing a portal in which the end user can change the content of the portal page (personalize) using Edit smart link and i ask How can i display a portlet in the Edit view only ? not shown in the production view ?

Last time I heard with Oracle they said the only way is to look at the current URL. If it contais _mode=16 then we are in edit mode.

How can I display the failure caption with click box when using function keys to navigate a sim?

I am using the keyboard function keys to navigate a simulation using Click Boxes. For instance, F7 advances the simulation to the next screen, but if the learner selects F5, a failure caption displays. I have tried deleting and re-entering the click box, placing the click box at the top of the timeline levels, starting the click box at 0 and 0.5, making the click box visible and invisible, and make the click box the entire size of the screen.

Aperture 3: Photos don't display in browser or Viewer

Some of my photos don't display in the browser or Viewer panels. It's displayed as greyed out. I am running Aperture 3.2.2. I have tired to rebuild permissions and the database without luck. Updating the preview doesn't work either. For some of the photos, if I double click, the photo appears in the Viewer panel but when I double click it goes back to the greyed out view.

Iphoto 6 displays all folders as slideshows. How to get back to edit view?

My Macbook Pro with Iphoto 6 just changed the default view of folders. Now all my named folders/albums in the sidebar display, when clicked, as slideshows. How can I get back to the default way, that shows albums in edit view? I know I can click on th edit icon, but that's not changing the problem. I want to see the photos in edit mode when I click on an album (or is "folder" correct?). Will rebuilding the library do the trick?

The Application Bar was removed starting in cs6, but all the same stuff should be under Window>Arrange
