  • Pavilion dv7-4070us Fail short DST (Failure ID PKVV5g-5525T4-XD003G-60QN03)

    Hi,
Last year I bought the HP Pavilion dv7-4070us laptop, running windows 7 64bit. Everything has been fine and dandy until recently. The past few days I have only been watching youtube videos and TV series, when one day I turn on my computer to find that it stays on the Windows 7 splash screen for an abnormal amount of time. This had happened to me once before, but for some weird reason, ( FYI: I am tech savvy, so this issue was a bit bizarre) it was fixed last time. However, unlike last time, the issue has not been resolved, loading time still takes like 5 min or more. Additionally when I ran the system diagnostics test, the hard drive failed the short DST with the failure id:  PKVV5g-5525T4-XD003G-60QN03.
Additionally I ran the seagate (samsung has "teamed" up with seagate) hard drive diagnostic with the same result, short DST failure, but long generic and short generic and smart is verified and passed. So I was wondering if anyone had this similar issue, and how were you able to resolve the situation. Again, the only thing I have done recently is only go on the internet to view youtube and TV series/drama, the only possible changes could be windows update. Other than that I really have not tinkered around with the system.
Searching high and low, it looks like I may have to replace the hard drive. However I am hoping to not have to do this since the warranty had just expired a couple months ago. If anyone could please respond or help I would immensely appreciate it! Happy Holidays.
P.S.. Should you require more relevant information, just ask. Thanks again!

    how can i fix it?

    Hi,
Run the test on the Hard Drive from the Bios Menu as follows.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of the error message this generates.
Can you also post back with the following.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

  • HP Pavilion DV6 - Stuck at Splash Screen and RECOVERY

So the subject best summarzies whats happening. The "windows starting up" splash screen is stuck and never changes.
The recovery loades files and then all I get is the mouse on the screen.
    Here's the diagnosis:
    Memory Test: Passed
    SMART: Check Passed
    Short DST: Failed
    Failure ID
    RSPQW2-00071C-XD003G-60R403
    PRODUCT ID
    WQ625UA#ABC
    HARD DISK 1
    =======================
    Start-Up Test : Failed

DST failed means the hard drive has failed or is failing fast. It will need to be replaced. If you are in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not you can use a retail laptop SATA hdd.Just be sure to get one of at least equal or larger capacity as the original 500gb in order to use Recovery Discs.
You will also need Recovery Discs to install Windows and software/drivers on the new hdd. Hopefully you have made a set-if not they can be ordered from HP for a small fee.
If you need more help with selecting a new hdd or replacing it post back.Maintenance & Service Guide here will show how to remove the hdd.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC unable to boot recovery disk

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC unable to boot recovery disk.  First when I power on my notebook it goes straight to the launch recovery or launch Windows normally screen.  When I choose start windows normally, it goes to the window screen and freeze.  When I try to launch the start-up with windows 7 start-up disk, the computer will not load the files.  When I tried to complete a hard drive test, it failed with a failure ID 9UXNXA-55E65V-XD003G-60XR03.
I'm looking for a solution, can someone help?

    Hi:
It sounds like you need to purchase a new hard drive for your notebook, and reinstall the operating system with your recovery disks.
When a HDD fails a diagnostic test, it normally means it is done for.

  • Hard Disk Test Failed

I have a laptop G42 (Product # XB056UA#ABA) with Windows 7 64-bit. When I ran the start up test and hard drive test I received an error (Failure ID 9XVL02-55965Q-XD003G-60WS03). It says that the SMART Check passed but the Short DST failed. When I try to load windows I get past the starting windows screen but then it stops after that at the blue screen with the cursor showing but nothing else. I noticed on other forums that say to purchase the system recovery discs which I just received, however when I try them I get the same screen. I'm pretty sure the hard drive is dead, but my laptop is out of warranty. Is there something else I need to try to make the system recovery discs work? I changed the boot order so that the cd-rom is first but that didn't seem to help. If I do need to replace the hard drive is there any advice or information you can give me?  Thank you!

    Hi,
Failing the short Disk Self Test would indicate that the HDD has indeed failed and will need to be replaced.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 53 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - see Here for details.

  • Short DST: Failed

    Hello,
    I have a HP laptop with windows 7 (64-bit):
    Model: HP G62 Notebook PC
    System ID: 1444
    Product ID:  XA505UA#ABC
Procceser Type: AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual-Core Procceser
    Memory Size: 3072 MB RAM
    So here is my story:
A month ago I turned on my laptop and in the middle of my work the screen will go white and make an eerie sound constantly until I turned it off. A month later I turned my computer on and it went to a black screen and said: Error with Hard Disk. I shut my computer off, hopping it was just a glitch and the next day I turned it on it shut off without warning at the HP symbol when starting it up. Now I have to continusly turn it on like at least 20 times for me to get to the disk error reading so i quikly press F2 and did some tests.
I did a HARD DISK TEST and it is saying :
    Testing Drive: 1
    SMART Check: PASSED
    Short DST: FAILED
    FAILURE ID: MC44RW-OO07JT-XD003G-60U203
    PRODUCT ID: XA505UA#ABC
I went to BIOS management and did a BIOS Rollback to F.00 hopping it would fix it but it did not do anything. I did battery test and it said: Primary - Replace (40) Secondary - NOT INSTALLED (60) and displayed same faliure id and product id
Can you plz help me without buying a new HARD DISK

    Hi,
Sadly to say: most of the time the 24 char failure id indicates the HDD is failing and need to be replaced. Is it still under warranry ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

  • Laptop blacked out

I was trying to connect the projector to my laptop, when I did it, nothing was projected on the wall. When I turned my laptop to see what was going on, the screen was totally black, but the leds were on. I pressed every button, and there was no response. So I thought that it could be the battery, so I plugged it to the power outlet, and nothing. Then I tried to turn it off, and I couldn't, but I pressed the power button and it turned off. Afterwards, I tried to turn it on, and nothing. Out of the blue, 3 hours later, it turned on, but just the leds.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv5, with the serial number CNU0402QPD, and the product number is XH004UA#ABA. I bought it at Best Buy in Tucson, on November 26, 2010. Just 4 months ago!
I don't have a back up, and I need the info. I live in Mexico, and yesterday, I contacted the technical support in my country, and they told me that a technician could take the hard disk, and then mail the laptop to you. Is this correct? What should I do?

Is your notebook still in warranty? (standard warranty is one year)
If yes, contact HP for warranty hard disk replacement.
Yo will need to use the Recovery disc set that you should have created to recover your notebook to its factory delivered state.
If not in warranty, purchase a notebook SATA 9.5mm, 2.50" hard disk
You will still need the recovery disc set or USN recovery media.
If you did not make the recovery media then you can find information on how to order a set here.
    Kind regards,

  • Hard Disc Test: FAILED

    Hello,
i have an HP Pavilion dv6 in which when it boots it stays on the HP logo for maybe 10 minutes and then it gives an error about the HD. When I run diagnostics test I get the following:
    Short DST: FAILED
    Failure ID: 0SJCGM-54D781-XD003G-60XJ03
    Hard Disc 1
    Hard Disc Test: FAILED

Well you've to replace the battery if that fails.
Do a hard reset first: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01684768
    Test by HP battery test.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00821536
You may also run this standalone battery test :
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
    What are the result?
Calibrate the battery after the test.
Is it showing charging indicator when plugged in - anything in system tray - right lower down near the clock in desktop.
Uninstall & install Microsoft ACPI battery from Device manager - Control Panel :
    a. Remove the battery of the laptop & power in with AC adapter plugged in
    b. Press Windows Key + X. Select Device manager.
    c. Expand the Batteries category.
    d. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
Shut down system after uninstallation finishes.
Insert battery , remove AC supply - try to power on.
Immediately press F10 to enter BIOS setup utility,
In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.
    Select Load Setup Defaults.
Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).
Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup.
Wait for Windows to load completely
Else, power on with both AC plugged & battery inserted & proceed.
    Check.

  • Failure code on hard drive test: 0qe575-54h6sd-xd003g-60r90

I have a failure code on the hardware test of: Oqe575-54h6sd-xd003g-60r90 - is this a fatal error or is there some way to rebuild. Splashtop works, but windows 7 does not boot.

    Hi,
Similar errors indicate that there is something wrong with the hard drive and needs to be replaced.
I checked the failure ID but it said " Failure ID not in valid format  XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX"
Because the Failure ID that you provided has 1 character missing at the last set. There should be 6 characters in each set and last one has only 5. If  you can find the missing number then i'll be able to decode the failure ID for you even though it is almost certain that the HDD needs to be replaced.
Here is a link for more info about similar errors:

  • Failure id 97krww-54l67m-xd003g-60sj03

It appeared that I had a virus as I had a message for system recovery which then prompted me to buy some software to fix the problem.  I installed malware bytes which identified a couple of problems and fixed them.  I then bought Norton 360, installed it.  It prompted me to restart the computer and since then it would not start up.  I did some start up diagnostics and received the following failure ID number  97KRWW-54L67M-XD003G-60SJ03.  I am clueless as to how to fix this.  I would rather not spend a ton of money to have someone else fix it.  Thanks

    Take a look at these:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=failure+ID+number++97KRWW-54L67M-XD003G...
They seem to be leaning toward a hard drive failure.  I would remove the hard drive and attach it to a desktop machine and see if you can run a check disk on it.  See if you can get some of you data off. Download the manufacturer's hard drive test and run it against the drive to see if it is good.  Use the desktop's anti-virus program to scan the hard drive.

  • My computer is reporting a hard disk failure. what to do?

My hard disk is reporting a failure (Disk Name Toshiba MK6465G4x ATA Device) on my  HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC (64 bit OS) which uses windows 7 home premium.  When I run a hard disk check, it fails (failure M11V51-55V5Q8-XD003G-60E803).  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Unfortunately with that fail code, no it can not be fixed. Some fail codes indicate a recovery can be run or the check disc might fix it, but not with this fail code.
