Failure in redirecting Personal Domain Emails to B...

I've tried emailing BT but had no response, so posting here.
I've discovered that over the last month or so an unknown quantity of emails to my personal domain have bounced.  These have included emails from BT.  My domain is managed by 123-reg and emails to my domain are forwarded to my ISP, BTInternet.  I have managed to get hold of a bounced email and it contains the message:
X-Postfix; host mx0.123-reg.co.uk[94.136.40.153] said: 550-Callout verification failed:
550 550 SPF CHECK FAILED (in reply to RCPT TO command)
I'm not familiar with email protocols but 123-reg informs me that this message indicates that their mails server has detected that the SPF data was malformed.  A quick 'Google' leads me to understand that the mail server detected that the sender's email address was not consistent with the sending mail server.  Is this correct?  If so, how can I get BT to send properly formed emails to me instead of blaming my domain server?

I'm confused. The MX records for my domain are held on a 123 DNS server but my mail is sent from a BTInternet SMTP server. Does this mean these emails will bounce if I send to a destination using SPF validation? I've not been receiving any bounce messages.
SPF uses additional records in your DNS record rather than just the MX record. The way it works is when the recieving server recieves an email say from example.org, it will do a dns query looking for the SPF records for example.org. Those records contain the valid ip addresses that can send email from that domain say for example 1.1.1.1. So for example your email server recives an email from [email protected] it then does a DNS query which returns that the only host which is a valid source for example.com email is 1.1.1.1. So thats fine and dandy if the email is from 1.1.1.1 but if its from for example 2.2.2.2 then the email will be rejected. Now that email could be coming from 2.2.2.2 for any reason it could be that there is a forward set on the email server, it could be a badly configured client or it could be someone attempting to spoof mail from the example.com domain. SPF email checking is fairly new and is one of two competing standards the other is DKIM which actually adds a signature to outgoing mail the public key for which is stored on the DNS record of the domain. Neither of these are as yet used widely, there is some but not massive demand for it, I think most peeps now communicate via facebook or IM rather than email.

  • SPF and redirecting Personal Domain Emails to btin...

Concern has been raised due to  Critical Path not delivering emails that SPF checks might stop emails, using  personal domain email addresses that were redirected (ie forwarded) to btinternet addresses, being delivered. Now that Critical Path appear to have temporarily fixed the issue the following email header obtained after the fix shows that the concerns are unfounded.
It is preferable  that when the "temporary" is removed removed from the current fix,  BT ensure that Critical Path are not allowed to prevent delivery of any emails but pass them on to the recipient in a similar way as illustrated below.
The email header below, taken after the temporary fix by Critical Path, shows that when the redirection takes place no SPF check is done. It also shows that SPF check failure takes place when emails are forwarded from Critical Path to Yahoo.
Note that most of the header has to be read from bottom to top eg Section A followed by Section B etc.
The email was to payments@redacted ( ie @xxx.co.uk) that was redirected to [email protected] (ie [email protected])
The redirection takes place at sections B and C.
This email has several interesting features two of which are:
    1. It has a spoofed senders address and
    2. It contains a virus.

Mail route (prior to relaxation of SPF reject):
    Amazon -> 123-reg
    Works fine
    123-reg -> CP
Email rejected due to SPF check failed
The "spf fail" you are seeing in your headers is actually added by Yahoo, since your mailbox has not yet been migrated to CP, and your btinternet mail is being forwarded to your BT Yahoo mailbox. Yahoo do not reject mail on SPF hard fail.   I indicated this in my post.
Prior to the relaxation of SPF reject by CP, CP was not forwarding your mail to Yahoo because CP was taking the decision to reject the mail on SPF hard fail.
I have headers before the temporary fix that have no indication of CP checking SPF.
Mail route (post relaxation of SPF reject):
    Amazon -> 123-reg
    Works fine
    123-reg -> CP
Email now not rejected due to SPF check failed
But no indication that it did any checking.
CP -> Yahoo (if mailbox not yet migrated)
Yahoo adds SPF fail header but mail still accepted
My comments on your diagnosis is in red above.
It looks as if CP might handle "SPF hard fail policy" differently (from the obvious) than other policies eg not report them.
Has anyone got any headers for BT Mail implementations ?
Failure to deliver emails to recipients without any notification is unacceptable for any public email service.

  • Email and transferring over a my personal domain

Hi have a business domain name that i want to swicth over to mobile me add some memory to it. I Already have a site running and it has run it course. Both personal domain goes though different company, one bring network solution and the other active domain. I went and bought iLife 09 for some reason that it would be easier to recreate more personal domain. and I Love apple stuff. When I tried a few months ago with my business one at network at it go so great. We lost are email for a day for so and they told I have to call apple. I quest what I am looking for and going through active domain and how do I set up my company email. I would like to me a informed before I go asking them them some question. How host the email account? How many can I have? I to all the graphics I you for my companies, like logos and and stull just go into my idisk, moble.me account and I get back them up leter? I would be nice the have a personal and companies web site through IWeb. I'm pretty new to to all. Right now my mobile me has my site as HillFamilyFund.com. But I would like my company to come up the same same with [email protected] There it is again. I worried about the email and how many I have. I have been able to find out the setting to tell newtork and Active what I need to do and many them. I'm gone on way too long. Thanks

MobileMe is not suitable for hosting a business website.
You cannot set up web mail and you can only have one "real" domain name redirect.
MobileMe is slow, unreliable and has no tech support.
For a business site you need several web mail addresses that you can redirect to your Mac Mail if you want and you need the ability to have contact forms.
If you want to be found in search engines and optimize your site so that it will download on a PC running Internet Explorer you will find that MobileMe makes this very difficult to achieve compared with using a "real" server.

  • Can you have an email account from a personal domain on mobile me?

I want to be able to answer emails that come in from my personal domain website (www.writenow-communications.ca) with an email address [email protected] (I want mobile me email to reply from that name.)
Is this possible, and if it is, how do I do it?
    I'm using iWeb '08.
    Thanks!

iWeb is an application to create and publish webpages.
It does not deal with e-mail either with MobileMe or 3rd party accounts.
Better ask in the [MobileMe Mail forum.|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=960]

  • Email at personal domain

I have my personal domain published with iWeb at www.mac.com. I would like to know if I can set up email with my domain name.
    www.name@personal domain.com????

It is tricky but here is how I did it.
I use ENOM as a registrar (godaddy should offer the same service) With my registrar, I forward my [email protected] email to my .Mac account email. That is the easy part to figure out. Now all my email from [email protected] goes to my .Mac email account. They next step is to send mail from [email protected] To do this I modifed my .Mac account settings in entourage. I changed the email address to [email protected] and I changed my outgoing SMTP server to the one for my internet service provider (mail.charter.net) (mail.bellsouth.net), etc.
This makes your .Mac account a shell account it receives mail to itself and mail forwarded from [email protected] but it is not used to send mail back out. That is done by my ISP that doesn't require a secure connection from within its network
This would not work well for a roaming laptop or if ever wanted to sent mail from your .Mac email address but it works otherwise.

  • Personal domain = personal email adress

if i use a personal domain instead of the .mac domain, do i have also some email-adresses with that domain? if, yes, how many and how can i set up the adresses?
    thanks

    Hi,
as far as I know that depends on your domain registrar.
With GoDaddy for example you get one [email protected] for free (19.99$ for five e-mail addresses [email protected] ).
If your domain registrar doesn't provide this feature you could manage your domain using zoneedit
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5928334&#5928334
and you will get e-mails also.
I think mostly you get MailForwards means that I send e-mails at [email protected] which forwards e-mails to another address like [email protected] and you can set [email protected] to be forwarded to another e-mail or the same so they aren't real e-mails themselves. You can also set *@yourdomain.com and all e-mails sent to no matter which e-mail @yourdomain.com gets sent to [email protected] no matter what people put in front of the @ as long as they put @yourdomain.com e-mails will be forwarded.
    Greetings from rainy Switzerland,
    Cédric

  • Personal domain redirect worked great - now both are down???

Please, someone maybe here is having this problem? I used iweb/mobile me to publish to my personal domain www.fashionthathappened.com. Had that all set up great with no issues. A week later, bought a name domain for my resume & tacked that on the back end... spent a while on the boards learning about masking - which all worked out great (I used google apps/eNom for the domain registry). So I changed what I needed to on eNom to redirect the URL. Everything was working great. Noticed though that one of my pages that isn't passworded is somehow coming up with an admin password request when you click on the link, or type the address. Then day before yesterday I noticed that my site wasn't coming up right when I went to my resume... then yesterday nothing. both domains are now down. I've tried everything I could find on the boards - but maybe I'm missing something simple? I don't know how to fix a problem that I have no idea what's causing. I didn't change anything. Anyone have suggestions or mind helping me out???

Can you still get to both your sites via your MobileMe url? That is http://web.me.com/username/sitename?
If you can, your sites are still published to MobileMe and the Apple servers, so the problem does not lie here. If you have used CNAME and web forwarding, then this problem would seem to lie with your domain name registrar/host. Perhaps if their servers go down, the forwarding that you have set up does not work.
Have you set up your first site using CNAME forwarding and the second using masked web forwarding?

  • Can't get email since I added personal domain.

    Hello,
I have changed my web hosting to .mac and set up my personal domain. hurray! now i can't get emails to respond to my personal email account. i used zoneedit.com to direct traffic to web.mac.com, but i don't know how to fix the email. my domain is registered through melbourne IT and it doesn't allow me to add a subdomain for the email. every time i try to send an email to my [email protected] account it says:
Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.
The reasons given by the server are included to help you determine why
    each recipient was rejected.
    Recipient: <[email protected]>
    Reason: 5.7.1 Recipient access denied
this is turning out to be more difficult than it should be. help??
    hb

The answer to your problem is simple. Change your domain provider.
www.1and1.com is probably the best for you and iWeb use.
That's what I did. It's all automatic and takes just few days. And no more problems after that.
    More info here: http://faq.1and1.com/domains/domain_transfers/index.html
To initiate a transfer you just need a credit or debit card. Then go to 1and1.com and check availability for your domain. Just type it into the Step 1 field on the their home page. It will not be available but next to it is gonna be TRANSFER DOMAIN button. Hit it and follow instructions.
    Then look at this message:

If anyone could provide some advice it would be very much appreciated - Tom thanks for you earlier help. I attach the latest email to Apple Support.
Hi Arthur, (The Apple Support Consultant)
We still have the same problems, even after entirely deleting all websites, idisks etc and carrying out the steps you asked (even though this is what we had already explained to you that we had done!). To requalify we have:
    a) Ensured that we have a proper domain name (www.mpi.com.au)
    b) Ensured that we have created a CNAME alias (www.mpi.com.au -> web.mac.com)
    c) Associating the name www.mpi.com.au as our personal domain
    d) Allowed more than 48 hrs
    e) no case sensitivities
    f) publish to site WITHOUT registering www.mpi.com.au to dotmac, works perfectly (ie from web with http://web.mac.com/mpimpi/Sites/index.html and when you log into .mac ([email protected]) and check My Pages, any of the pages work properly.
    g) more interesting is when you log into .mac ([email protected]) after registering www.mpi.com.au as our personal domain and republish whole site and check the account settings personal domain you see www.mpi.com.au listed and when you click on it you see a redirection to web.mac.com and then to http://www.apple.com/dotmac.
    h) Further interesting effects occur when you log into .mac ([email protected]) and check My Pages, any of the pages (ie "About Us" redirects to http://www.mpi.com.au/Sites/About_Us.html) and then to http://www.mac.com/account_error.html. (Apples I'm Sorry - Our records show that the account you're attempting to connect to either does not exist or is currently inactive page).
    i) the account is paid for and appears to be active!
    DNS entries:
    Host Record type Value

Arthur, we realy need to get this resolved can we get developer/senior problem solver assistance. I think that the items points g & h are very relevant!

After great assistance from Apple (thanks Arthur!!) and our new DNS service provider we have our website online and working as required. The resolution required a switch to another DNS service provider.
We are now using SecuritySpace (www.securityspace.net, www.securityspace.com). They are extremely competent, very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. I've suggest that Apple list a set of known DNS providers that dotmac clients should deal with. I cc'ed SecuritySpace support on this mail.

  • Can I make the personal domain go away?!

Problem: I played with the personal domain thing in the 2.0 phase of iWeb, and decided to wait until the update fixed things. I USED to have my GoDaddy URLS point to each of my various iWeb sites, which they still do. However, when I publish now, iWeb loads to that personal domain, and I can't make it stop. I never changed the CNAME or anything on my GoDaddy site, just went on .Mac to add a personal domain to the list.
Can I make iWeb STOP trying to load to that personal domain? I deleted it from the .Mac page, but iWeb still shows it at the bottom of the pane as a green dot followed by my email (domain). Now EVERY site loads to that domain, followed by /sitename.
    Old domain: www.swatphysician.com pointed to
    Old iWeb site: http://web.mac.com/macdaddymd/iWeb/swatphysician
    New iWeb is www.swatphysician.com/swatphysician
I tried republishing the entire thing to .Mac after I deleted that personal domain from .Mac, but it did the same. What I want to do is go back to the old way... use my GoDaddy redirect to point to the various sites by their own personal domain names (www.76whs.com, www.76lancers.com, etc.).
Can I make iWeb forget it ever heard of my personal domain?!

I explored the possibility of setting up the personal domain feature, but was unable to get the support needed from my host to ensure that it would function properly. I'm considering simply using web forwarding to send people where they need to go. I added and removed the personal domain information from within my .Mac account and it had nothing to do with iWeb. Maybe I'm clueless on this, but that was my experience.
Anyone who has previously been pointing to their .Mac iWeb site will discover that all the addresses will change after upgrading to iWeb 2.0.1 version. At least, that was my experience. Blog entries have a completely new method for naming pages (old pages are given new URLs based on the new naming system). The entire site was under an iWeb folder (as you pointed out in your message). The new sites are located directly under your .Mac account name.

  • Using my Personal Domain Name on a trial version of .Mac?

Okay, I have a trial version of .mac, and am very happy with it. I used Iweb to build a good website for my artwork, and I'm all set to publish. But I want to put my registered domain name to my new site, so when you type the simple domain name (ex: "www.site.com") my .mac site that I built on Iweb will show up.
I have a previously-built site hosted by a different company where my domain name used to point. After calling the company where I bought the domain name, they had me redirect the name so it points to .mac. It didn't work. When I type in my domain name (ex:"www.site.com"), the old site comes up.
I went onto the help section of Iweb, which says to log into .mac, and in the account info section, press a button that says something about personal domains. _THERE IS NO BUTTON THERE_!!! Is it becuase I only have the trial version of .mac? I intend to buy the full version, but I wanted to play with my free trial memebership first. If I have to, though, I'll just buy the full version so I can add my personal domain name to the .mac site.
Has anyone come across the answer for this? I'm inexperienced with hosting and domains and all that...the answers I've gotten from emails are like greek to me. Can anyone help?

Is it becuase I only have the trial version of .mac?
    Yes.
You should still be able to point your personal name to your .Mac site via ordinary forwarding/masking, where you normally just type http://web.mac.com/username into a form at the place which holds your name.

  • Issues with Personal Domain & mail forwarding.

    Hi all,
I have (after several weeks of fiddling, tinkering, messing and stressing) finally got my personal domain pointed at my iWeb site. It took long enough, but now everything is as it should be.
Except for one small annoying thing.
I have mail forwarding set up at my domain registrar. This works fine, expect when sending mail using .mac mail. In other words, when someone sends mail to an e-mail address which uses my domain name - it arrives in my inbox. But it someone sends it using the mac.com servers, then it gets returned as undeliverable.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul C.

To clarify, if I've registered the domain "mydomain.com", my registrar forwards any e-mails that are addressed: [email protected] to the mailbox of my ISP.
This works when e-mails are sent to this address via an ISP's smtp server and via most webmail. But when sent via mac.com servers, it comes back with a failure stating: "reason: 554 5.7.1 Recipient access denied.
