Failure of Epson R2880 to print

I am very frustrated at the failure of Adobe to help me sort a problem which appears to be of their making.
My operating system in Mac Mavericks OSX 10.9
Until very recently all was fine printing from CS5 to my printer, then an error message occurred which states
"Error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents"
Following a previous exchange I have uninstalled CS5 several times, reinstalled, deleted drivers and re installed and at odd times the print dialogue box appears and will print, this will print until I reopen CS5 and then nothing again except the error message.
I thought I had a workaround using Nikon View NX2, which if I exported to CS5 it would print, but only until I closed and reopened CS5,
I have been through the Adobe blaming Epson drivers, Epson saying it is an Adobe problem, all of which does not help me.
I have a friend who works in IT who has spent a couple of hours doing all sorts of things and, as I have, got the printer working for short times
It will print from any other applications except Adobe
I have also used the shift. alt cmd several times to reset but again not with any results
Any help or solutions would be appreciated, currently my opinion of Adobe and their support functions is very low.

Thanks, but that didn't solve my problem.  I use Word 2003, SP3 and never had that problem with my previous printer (also an HP Printer).  I just tried MS Word again and it still fails to print on the envelope, although I put a stack of the same size envelopes in the printer tray.  I still get a "Paper Mis-Match".  I believe there is something wrong, internally, with the printer and the feeder mechanism.
Unless someone can give me a fix, I will probably have to continue printing out labels..  I've never had a problem with many different size labels.  Again, Thanks

  • My Epson R2880 printer has stopped working - 'filter failure'

My prized Epson R2880 has suddenly stopped working. I upgraded to 'Mavericks' some time ago but for some reason this error popped up today and there appears to be no remedy.
Have tried deleting the printer and 're adding it several times' - no good. Epson site says that driver updates are available only from Apple. Apple update did not work.
Luckily I still have a trusty PC to fall back on but I really expect the Mac to contiue to work with this printer.
    Any ideas?

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

  • Print profiles no longer working correctly with CS6 64bit to my Epson R2880

Hi, until recently, my print profiles were working correctly  with CS6 64bit (Win 7 ultimate 64) to my Epson R2880, they now print washed out/desaturated  but the same profiles still print correctly using Lightroom 4. has there  been an update that could have affected things or are there any other  suggestion? Thanks, Dave.

    Hi,
    I hope someone can help!
I recently bought my first Mac, a great MacBook Pro which I love!
I use Lightroom3 and Photoshop CS5 to edit photos and now want to print from my Epson R1800.
I found that the prints initially came off very dark & contrasty, so I calibrated both the MBP screen and my Samsung SuncMaster 245B monitor with my Spyder2 and the Colorvision software.
Even after establishing colour profiles for both screens, the printed image was still far darker and "heavier" than that shown on screen. This was the same whether printing from LR3 or from the Mac Preview app (it was worth trying I thought!).
So searching for help on the web I came across this thread and now wonder whether I should uninstall my driver (6.57) and reinstall the printer with 6.23.
Stephen did you find that this worked - did PS CS5 behave after that?
Of course I'm trying to print some work soon and in desperation could adjust every (edited) image by brightening & reducing contrast, however with dozens to print it seems crazy to do that, not to mention wrong!
    Thanks for any help!

  • Color Distortion with Mac Lion, CS6, Epson R2880 printer

When I had Snow Leopard, CS4 and Epson R2280, I got prints that looked like what was on the monitor.
When I bought a new Mac which switched my operating system to Lion, and Adobe recommended  I buy CS5 which I did.  When I went to print, trying every setting imaginable, the color was too dark, distorted and lifeless.  I called support on January 23, 2012 and they have not solved the problem YET.
I was very excited to try CS6.  I selected use CS4 profiles.
I printed a PSD file using Printer controls setting, color matching, epson.  The results are marginally better.  The pictures do not come out as dark but yellows turn green and greens turn blue.  Blues are sligtly darker and reds are off- mostly darker.  I got the same results letting photoshop control the colors.  This lack or responsiveness to changes in commands is the same thing I encountered with CS5.  I also tried printing an unadjusted raw file and the color did not change.
I know how to use the Epson R2880 so I chose the correct media and ink.
When I print from Apples preview or iPhoto, the color is perfect.
Given that Epson is a high quality photoprinter, Adobe should make it their business to be sure their product works with Epson.

I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
more troubleshooting with this and report back..
Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • Color management problems printing to Epson R2880 from CS3

I recently purchased an Epson R2880 printer. I am having a lot of trouble getting good color when printing from Photoshop CS3. I am running OS 10.4 on a G4 Mac. I have a high-quality monitor and an EyeOne calibrator. I have spent a total of a few hours on the phone with tech support from the store where I bought the monitor and calibrator, and with Epson. To try and keep it simple, I am using all Epson products (ink, paper, their ICC profiles downloaded from their site). I have calibrated my monitor to brightness: 80, white point: 5000 K, Gamma 2.2.
All that tech support has brought me to the point where prints I get on Epson Velvet Fine Art paper and almost where they match what I see on the monitor, though they still could use a touch more red. I've tried making a slight curves adjustment to the red channel but I still don't quite have it. But it's basically acceptable.
So then I tried Epson Premium Presentation Matte paper. After a lengthy session with the Epson tech, we determined that I can get a print that's almost right by printing out of Preview and letting the printer manage colors. If I make a levels adjustment and brighten it a good bit, I get a very good print. But if I try printing on that paper from CS3 I get something that looks like a washed out black-and-white print with a hint of color in it. The Epson tech (a level 2 tech) told me to use the SPR 2880 Matte Paper-HW profile. Didn't help. At that point he said that he'd done all he could do and that for further assistance I needed to contact Adobe about "advanced settings in Photoshop." Of course, I'd prefer to print out of Photoshop because it gives more options in terms of placement and size of the print on the paper.
    So here are my questions:
    - Is this kind of thing par for the course, and will I eventually figure out a system that gives me good results all the time with any Epson paper I choose with a minimum of tinkering with levels and curves?
    - Or should I expect more from a printer that costs almost $1,000 and should I return it for, say, a Canon?
    - Is there information online about those "advanced settings" the Epson tech was referring to?
    - Or would I be advised to purchase a one-on-one phone consultation from Adobe Photoshop tech support to resolve these problems?
    Thanks,
    Helen

    Mike,
Gee Ramón, I am guessing Mike did a search for Epson R2880/CS3 and noticed that a Mac user was having the same problem he was. If together, maybe Windows users and Mac users can come together and solve the problems of the Epson R2880, maybe we can set a good example for the Republicans and Democrats in Congress :-).
Anyway, since I posted this problem, I have been working on it getting input from a variety of people. The person who finally helped me was Jim, a tech at ColorHQ.com. If you are in the US or Canada and have to buy a monitor and/or calibrator, definitely consider buying it from them, because they offer free tech support to their customers!
So regarding yellowness, one thing that you definitely should look at is how you're calibrating your monitor. Despite some of the replies above that recommend calibrating to 6500K, ColorHQ, which specializes in solutions for the printing industry, told me that calibrating to 5000K is the print industry standard. (While 6500K is the standard for working on images for the web or for editing video.) 5000K will make the monitor look yellower, so see whether that's a better match to what you're printing. I have an Eizo monitor and am running their Color Navigator software. The nice thing about that is something called Color Navigator Agent that allows me to switch between calibration profiles on the fly if I'm doing some web work and then want to work on images for printing.
Calibrating to 5000K was helpful, but not the solution in my case. The ultimate solution to my problem was more of a Mac issue, so I don't know if this will help you, but I'll post it in case anyone refers to this discussion in the future: there evidently IS an issue with ColorSync Utility in the Mac interfering with Photoshop managing colors in OS 10.4. In my case, ColorSync was causing the printer to preserve RGB values rather than use the ICC profile. The afore-mentioned Jim suggested that I go to Edit: Convert to Paper Profile, then pick the profile from the list. When printing, in the first Photoshop dialog box choose Color Handling: No color management. All the other settings in the next dialog box are the same as when you don't want the Epson to manage colors. So what you're doing is making it so the profile is built into the file, and neither Photoshop nor Epson are managing colors.
The result to this was MUCH better. The soft proof is a little redder than the print, but I can adjust that by creating a curves adjustment layer and pulling down the red curve in the middle a little bit if I want to see what the print will look like. I can live with that.
Also Jim pointed out that those papers that you mentioned are in fact a little warm in tone -- put Velvet Fine Art next to a piece of ordinary copy paper from say, Staples, and you'll see the difference. He suggested that if it's the matte look I want (it is) that Hahnemuhle makes a couple of papers that are brighter: Photo Rag Baryta and Bright White He also likes Ilford Gold Fiber silk, but that's a luster satin finish. You can download the Hahnemuhle profiles from Hahnemuhle's web site and compare them in "Soft Proof" mode in Photoshop with the Epson papers you mentioned and get an idea of the difference with your images. I haven't actually printed on them yet, but I see what he means.
Good luck, and I'd be interested to know how it goes for you.

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when I try to print to Epson R2880, anyone resolved this yet?

Photoshop CS5 crashes when I try to print to Epson R2880.  Does anyone know how to resolve this?

  • Problem iPhoto 09 & Printing with Epson R2880

I have an Epson R2880 and I'm having print driver problems with iPhoto 09. I am using a Dual Processor G5 PowerMac running OS X 10.5.8. I've tried contacting Epson Support about this but they refuse to accept that the problem is anything to do with them. They insist that the problem is Apple's and that I should contact them about this.
The problem is this, my R2880 recently stopped working normally with iPhoto 09.  It did this after a cartridge change from Photo Black to Matt black.  This problem only affects iPhoto.  My R2880 works normally with all the other programs that I use to edit or print images namely Lightroom 2.6, Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements 6, Apple Preview & Bridge CS3. I have tried connecting my R2880 to a powered USB socket on my computer and via a hub and I get the problem in both cases.
By not working properly I mean that the normal Print Settings part of the printer driver menu is now not available when I try and print from iPhoto. Instead, the printer driver now displays a menu item called Printer Features that not only appears to be incomplete, it also does not offer the functionality of the normal Print Settings menu.   Actually, in addition to Print Settings, the Page Layout Settings & Paper Configuration are all now missing from the iPhoto Print Driver dialogue.
When I first installed the R2880 printer driver (back in November when I bought the printer) I also discovered that I had this problem with iPhoto.  After installation, the R2880 worked with all my programs except iPhoto.
I contacted Epson support about this. They advised that I re-install the driver after downloading it from the Epson website.  I did this.  It did not solve the problem.  In the end I found that I needed to reinstall iPhoto 09. Once I had done that, it too then worked properly with the R2880 ie the Print Settings part of the printer driver menu was now present.  This was the case until I changed cartridges as described above.
Strangely, I have also found that I can get iPhoto to display the normal Print Settings part of the menu but only if I do not select the R2880 as the printer when I first select Print from the File Menu in iPhoto.  When you select Print from the File Menu it brings up an additional Menu that asks you to select the printer you want to use.  I have three printers, an Epson D120, an Epson R2880 and a Dymo Labelwriter 450.
If I select the R2880 and then press the Print Button , the Print Driver that is then displayed contains the non functioning Printer Features as described above.  Strangely, if I select the D120 and then press the Print Button and then change the printer selection to the R2880 when the Print Driver is displayed,  the Printer Driver then displays the normal Print Settings.
I'm be interested to know if any other R2880 users have experienced this problem with iPhoto 09. As I said above, Epson insist that as the driver works normally with other programs the problem is with iPhoto and therefore I should contact Apple. This isn't really a practical: I have no Apple care as my machine is five years old and Apple only give 90 days telephone support with software.
I maintain that as the driver isn't installing properly with iPhoto 09 that the problem is an Epson one.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

  • Communication error with Epson R2880 printer using Snow Leopard 10.6.4

I am having trouble printing with my Epson R2880 printer on my Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.4 with the most recent software updates. The printer prints about a quarter of the print and then quits giving a "Communication error" message. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer and downloading the latest driver form Epson. My other printer, a cheap Canon printer, works fine on the computer with 10.6.4 and the R2880 printer works fine with my old G5 running 10.4.11. Any ideas?

Thanks John. I tried deleting the Epson printer folder from the library like you said and then checked for Software Updates. But Apple did not indicate that there were any for my OS (probably because I had installed the latest OS update this morning). So I installed the driver from the Epson site with the printer folder removed. But this did not work because when I tried to print the computer indicated that there were missing files. So, I reinstalled the Epson folder that I had just moved to trash, deleted the new Epson folder, then tried reinstalling the Epson driver with the original folder in place. THIS WORKED! Finally, I am off and printing but with little knowledge gained about the inner workings of my computer.

  • NO PRINTER PREFERENCES DIALOGUE BOX IN CS3 FOR EPSON R2880

I am running CS3 on a mac OS X and have just bought an Epson printer R2880. I cannot get any dialogue box up that will give me any printer options other than the basic print size, orientation and position on the paper. My only solution so far is to Copy & Paste into Pages where I can access a few more options & get reasonable prints. Has anyone found a way round this ?

    Sorry, Ill expand.
Its Mac OS/X Leopard. Running Adobe CS3. When I try and print a photo from Adobe CS3, I go to file print which displays a dialogue box (Titled Print). This dialogue box displays many print options e.g. size and orientation , position on the page etc but not a facility i.e dialogue box to select the paper type as an example e.g photo glossy , photo matt etc. These options are available from many of the other programs such as Pages and Easy Print and various other applications. Indeed I can take a photo from CS3 , convert to tiff as an example and print using these options from Easy Print. I would however like to access the full printer settings from CS3. I think this issue has been seen before in the professional range of printers.
I have spoken to Epson who say their printer and driver is fine as all the facilities work from other apps.
Adobe support said CS3 didnt support the preferences but to try a forum to see how people get round it. Hence here I am!
It is very strange that a photo application as advanced as CS3 wont let me choose a paper type for a semi professional printer like the Epson R2880.

  • Installing epson r2880 printer driver

    Hi,
I am trying to add an Epson r2880 to my iMac running MAC OS 10.8 Mountain Lion and I keep getting messages as below now over a 12+ hour period. Is the server really down for this long or should I do something different to get this printer driver loaded? Multiple attempts through the software update have failed.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

If you are current with your Software Updates, then you should have the Oct 4. Epson Printer Drivers v2.12 for OS X installed. This provides support for the R2880 directly from Print & Scan system preferences.
If your R2880 is already present in your Print & Scan configuration, you may need to first remove it, then add it back, choosing the Epson R2880 driver (version 9).
