Failure of iTunes feed in iLife '08

Suddenly, after over a year of successfully posting podcasts to iTunes, and then installing iLife '08, there seems to be a problem with my feed to iTunes from iWeb.
I have searched hours and came up with a verification utility on the web that suggested that I have a different character set in my feed than the one I need to "match" the one iTunes needs. AND, I am not sure this would fix things as there may be other issues I don't know about with the new installation.
I have the update that was posted recently.
My question is how do I fix this. I get along fairly well until I get to feeds and then I get crosseyed. I simply can't find a place to adjust this.
Any help or direction would be deeply appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If the themes you were using are no longer supported in iPhoto 08 it may not be able to salvage the book in the theme you started. I had a book started in Storybook theme and after the conversion it was still OK except it now had a dust jacket included instead of the photo on the actual cover. There was a warning that if I changed themes I wouldn't be able to go back. I worked on it for a while and then decided to change to a supported theme. Don't know of any way to recover them except to change to a supported theme. Make a copy of the book, select and type Command-D, before you change.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

My itunes feeds are not updating. One stopped updating a couple weeks ago, while another one is approaching a month without an update. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? Anything i can do to resolve this issue? Any help is appreciated. thank you.

The feed for the first podcast you list is at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/gandtshow/RAcB
There is a line at the very top of the feed which reads
Notice: Undefined index: feed_redirect_url in /hermes/bosnaweb03a/b2043/ipw.certifiedpcdoctor2/public_html/GandTshow/wp-conte nt/plugins/powerpress/powerpress.php on line 1377
Its presence renders the feed unreadable; when subscribing it shows up blank, and the iTunes Store is showing a cached version from the last time it could read the feed.
The feed for the second podcast is at
    http://www.gandtshow.com/?feed=podcast2
There appear to be no errors in this feed, but it is showing up empty when subscribing. It did take a long time to load in Firefox, so it's possible that it may be timing out in iTunes and the Store.

  • How do I get create an iTunes feed for a YouTube channel?

How do I get create an iTunes feed for a YouTube channel?

If you are asking how to create a feed which will play YouTube videos in iTunes, the answer is you can't. Podcast feeds must use mp3, m4a, .mov or .m4v.
If that isn't what you're asking then it would be helpful if you could clarify exactly what it is you are trying to do.

  • Enhanced .m4a created in Garageband breaks iTunes feed, why?

    Hello all,
I have a blog on Blogger, upload video on Blip.tv, cross post to Blogger blog, created RSS in Feedburner, submitted to iTunes, everything works fine until....I add a link to a .m4a enhanced podcast created in Garageband.....ping Feedburner, ping iTunes...update podcast subscription in iTunes...then feed shows as broken...any thoughts?
The enhanced podcast I've created in Garageband has audio, pictures, and web URLs.
Anyone have any idea why this breaks my iTunes feed?
I have successfuly subscribed to my video podcast in iTunes using .mov files uploaded to blip, cross-posted to blog/RSS feed, but whenever I add a .m4a created in Garageband, it breaks my iTunes feed???
    What am I missing here?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm going to reply to my own message. After spending some time trying to solve this problem, I found an application called Chapter Maker in the App Store. It is reasonably priced and once you have turned your podcast sent to iTunes into a movie by opening it in QuickTime, you can either just show it through QuickTime on your desktop or laptop computer, or if you want it to work in iTunes the way it used to work, you can send it from QuickTime to iMove (go to file/Export to... iMovie) where you can then export it as a movie to your desktop and open in Chapter Maker where you can add the chapter headings back in to the podcast and Export it. You can then add it back into the movie folder in iTunes where you can see the visuals in full screen and navigate through the chapters quickly.
I also tried this out by connecting my iPad to my computer and moving the movie into my iPad. While it doesn't have the chapters visible to navigate quickly to a chapter heading, you can touch the play screen and drag it to the places you need to review. Not as nice as the old iOS version, but it also does show the visual screen using the full screen of the iPad.
As I mentioned earlier, on my older iPod, I am able to view the visuals in full screen and by touching the list at the top right, it turns over to navigate through chapters with clearly labeled headings.
I use this to study topics for myself and also to pass on information to students.
I do wish they had kept the old version the way it was, but guess that's the way things go.
Check out the application in the App Store called Chapter Maker if you are looking for the same solution to this problem. Even if you aren't, it's an easy way to add sections to any video.

  • How to upload enhanced podcast to itunes feed?

I currently have a popular podcast in itunes here
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=214060101
to which I have been submitting mp3 files. However I just bought my first MacBook in order to create Enhanced Podcasts in the AAC format. I use a podcast host (Hipcast.com) to upload my files and publish to the feed. But they dont allow me to upload the m4a version. How can I upload from (GarageBand) directly to my itunes feed?

If Hipcast don't allow you to upload m4a files you will have to find a different host. In theory all you have to do is to edit the feed file to give the URL of m4a files which you have uploaded to a different server; but it's very probable that like other similar services Hipcast doesn't allow your direct access to the feed.

  • Podcast episode in iTunes feed but not on preview page

I have been experiencing different behavior with my podcast in the iTunes store this week. My latest two episodes took a couple of days to update in the iTunes feed when for the past two months they have appeared within an hour.  What concerns me is that they are not displaying on the preview page for my podcast in the iTunes store, even the one that was published two and a half days ago. Apple's email support persists in telling me how to submit a podcast to the store and suggesting that I phone support and ask my question for a fee. Liberated Syndication tells me that the feed URL is accurate and that the episodes in question have been published. It also says several of its customers are experiencing this problem currently with iTunes.
    Any ideas?
    My feed URL is http://astroinsight.libsyn.com
    My iTunes URL is http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/astroinsights-podcast/id479652731

    Your feed is at http://www.cooksux.com/theahhashow/podcast/podcastblaster.xml
iTunes is unable to read this feed because there is a fatal error in the episode of 27 November. The 'itunes:subtitle' tag contains an ampersand ('&') by itself - because an ampersand indicates the beginning of a code sequence which is never completed, and this renders the feed unreadable. You need instead to use the code
    &
as you have in fact done elsewhere. Since this is in episode 5 this is why your subscription stopped at episode 4. I'm not clear how the Store has managed to keep updating, except that the Store and the iTunes application are quite different things and it may be that the Store software has been arranged to ignore this error. Anyway, make the change and it will work again. (Make sure there aren't any more instances of this.)

  • ITunes feed broken for all new episodes

My HD Movie Trailers iTunes feed has recently been generating errors for all new episodes I add (corrupt file or can't be played).
The podcast is run off Blogspot with the RSS feed going through Feedburner using SmartCast. The XML seems to check out, and all the media file links download properly in a browser or other RSS subscribed feed - it's only in iTunes that things seem to have gone awry.
    This is the iTunes feed:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=204096451
    And the blog feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/hdtrailers
Any help people can give would be great, as this is a really popular feed and I am getting a lot of complaints! Cheers.

Correct. iTunes needs a locally stored (on your computer's hard drive), self-contained movie in order to play it properly.
Remember that a reference file only contains relative pointers to the actual media. When you move/copy that reference file to another computer it can not find that original media anymore since the path to it doesn't exist on that computer.
I could create a reference file where the media is contained on my hard drive, this file will be really small since it just contains local directions to the media and not the media itself. If I give you this small file, you would receive an error when you try to play it indicating that it can't find the media...since it is attempting to find that media on your computer (where it doesn't exist).
Perhaps an analogy would be if I didn't have space in my closet to store an item. I put that item in the garage, and then store a small shoebox in my closet with a note in it that says "it's in the garage". Later, when I look in my closet for the item, I open the shoebox and read the note and go to the garage to retrieve the item.
Now I give you the shoebox and you put it in your closet. Later you go to retrieve the item, go to the closet open the shoebox and read the note that says "it's in the garage". You go to your garage, an look around and pull your hair out in frustration since you can't find the item there.
    Make sense?

  • Sync failure because itunes cannot connect to the sync server PLEASE HELP!!

HELP! I cannot get my info back into my iphone.
During sync I get an error message that says 'sync failure because itunes cannot connect to the sync server''
I have had this problem today so i restored the iphone and it has synched the ipod portion but will not sync calenders, contacts , email accounts or bookmarks.
The restore erased all of these and now i cannot replace them.
Thank you in advance for any help in solving this crisis.

I had the same problem (not from day one but within the past couple months). Anyway, I wish I had made note of everything that the quick-and wonderful-Apple support did when I finally decided to give them a call today-after getting tired of not being able to update calendars and contacts and not seeing any helpful info here-unfortunately, I continue that legacy (as I can't remember everything I had to do to fix-sorry) Ultimately involves creating a new user I called mine IPHONE...then doing some of this and that-and finally merging info and going to "Terminal" and typing in some code...then deleting some of the old files, Took about twenty-minutes on the phone. Sorry I didn't think ahead for others and write al this down...but just know the Apple people were great. I talked to a gal for about ten minutes very methodically trouble-shooting. When nothing worked she shifted me over to a real nice guy who calmly and politely guided me through all the steps to fix this annoying problem. I hate to say it, but just get on the phone and-if you have the same experience as me-you will get 5 Star treatment and your sync will work like a dream. Every time I have to contact Apple Support (which isn't that often) my experience is nothing but the best. Unbelievable customer service! Methodical, Personable, and truly knowledgeable! There is a fix and it works like a dream. Not that hard but you'll need customer service to walk you through it-as I can't (sorry I can't be of much help...) Good luck!

  • Corrupted itunes after upgrading ILife 08

Installed ILife 08 over the weekend and just tried to open up ITunes and the following msg appeared "This copy of Itunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly" Please advise on perhaps what I need to do. Have i totally lost everything???? Has anyone else experienced this after installing ILife 08? Thanks of any insight...

HI Lisa and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
It sounds like you already had iTunes on your Mac and then installed another version of iTunes that's part of the iLife 08 suite of software.
Back up your iTunes Library to an external source such as CD/DVD (if you have a SuperDrive), an external hard drive, a MobileMe account using iDisk.
Get AppZapper And use it to delete your iTunes appliations. You can drag the iTunes apps to the Trash, but that doesn't delete all the associated files... AppZapper does that job for you. Reboot and run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. DU is located in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, then select the FirstAid tab, then click Repair Disk Permissions. When that is finished, Quit Disk Utility.
Don't reinstall iTunes from the iLife disk. Go here instead: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Just follow the instructions to download and install iTunes.
After you've done that you should be able to recreate your iTunes Library:

  • RSS XML Files for a Blog and Podcast on Same Website With iTunes Feed

Does iWeb support both a separate blog and podcast on the same website feeding the Podcast to iTunes? I got my podcast going on iTunes, then it stopped working after I changed the iTunes podcast name in iWeb and didn't edit the xml file. My podcast is gone on iTunes and I can't get the xml files correct for the blog or the podcast. I'm submitting the correct URL to iTunes but iTunes continues generarting 404 errors.

No answers. Will re-post more clearly

  • Itunes: feed has already been submitted error. can't fix it!

after being on itunes for many years, apple recently took down my videocast. i've since corrected the problems. however, every time i try to resubmit it, i get the "feed has already been submitted" error.
i've done everything that's been suggested. i've changed the feed title, pointed to a different source url ("original feed" in feedburner parlance), changed the show description and itunes category. however, i don't want to change the feedburner feed addresss because i don't want to lose all my itunes comments and subscribers, assuming i ever get this fixed.
btw, my feedburner feed addresss that i want to resubmit to itunes is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/chillcastvideo
i've tried contacting apple "support" but sad to say it's a joke, shuffling me around from person to person who gives me "advice" that doesn't work. for an otherwise great company, they're failing here.
so if anyone has anything else for me to try, i'm all ears.
    thanks!
    ryan

hi roger, are you saying apple automatically deletes comments and subcribers for podcasts that have been removed? i ask this because you helped the poster in this thread who was having the same issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4943722?start=0&tstart=0
and i looked up his show on itunes and all his older comments are there along with his subscribers. i'm just trying to figure out what he did and do the same.

  • ITunes Feed Not Updating from Podbean -- Validator Says It's Fine

We've done nearly 80 episodes over 2+ years and have had some issues with the feed. This time, I've tried EVERYTHING!  I've resaved the podcast with a new file name, deleted it and reuploaded it, changed the post, fixed everything in Feedvaildator.com and yet, for some reason, our latest episode (77) is not showing up in iTunes.
Does anyone know what's going on? Help!!!
    Feed is: http://winefornormalpeople.podbean.com/feed/
    Much appreciated!

This was really helpful. I had exceeded the 512K feed limit.
For anyone using Podbean and running up against this issue, go into the Dashboard/Settings/Display and change the Feed episodes to a smaller number.
I do have more of a podcasting marketing question vis a vis this required change:
People frequently download the entire back catalog of Wine for Normal People episodes when they discover the podcast. I currently have 77 episodes and now 27 of those will no longer be showing on iTunes. Anyone have a suggestion/answer to how to alert people that they can download them from Podbean?
I don't know how to let people know that those episodes aren't lost in the ether without hammering it in every single episode, but that may be the answer. I wish iTunes allowed you to put a message about that so people who were looking could easily click off the site and get those episodes they want.
    Thanks for any ideas/recos.

  • Feedburner w/itunes feed details not updating

Ive been having an issue for MONTHS where my feedburner manipulated feed refuses to update with the new summary of my podcast feed from what it was originally set to in itunes. The only thing I can think of is that this is because of some weird itunes caching.
    LINK TO FEED SOURCE:
    http://www.joeshowradio.com/rss_files/feedburner.rss
    LINK TO FEEDBURNER:
    feeds.feedburner.com/MmaJoeShowRadio-UndergroundMmaRadio
for whatever reason, when feedburner updates my feed is alters the feed information to match what it was originally set to in itunes. how do I stop this from happening?

So Feedburner is not updating the info from the feed. As I understand it, what is in Feedburner in the 'itunes:subtitle'  'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:image' tags is what was there originally? - and subsequently you changed the subtitle and summary to the entries with the first sentence in capitals, and presumably must have changed the image?
Did you do this before or after adding the latgst episode? - the question being whether Feedburner is updating from the feed, just not those particular tags, or whether it's not updating at all.
I can't see why it shouldn't update - the only thing odd about the feed is the absence ot the xml declaration in the first line:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
which Feedburner adds - presumably this has always been missing anyway? - and the feed validates in FeedValidator and can be subscribed to in iTunes so this shouldn't be a problem.
If you made the changes after adding the latest episode (not at the same time) then I suppose it's possible that FeedBurner might not see the changes until the next time you add an episode - iTunes is liable to do that but I dono't know about FeedBurner.
You could also look round Feedburner and see whether there is somewhere you can over-ride the contents of these tags; I don't know whether this is possible.

  • ITunes Feed is acting strange

I recently added a new episode to my podcast and updated the feed. I checked my podcast in iTunes, but the episode did not show up. I deleted the old subscription and re-subscribed in iTunes. The new episode appeared, but then the previous episode disappeared.
I have 3 episodes total. Now, for new subscriptions, it only shows the latest episode, and the first episode, completely leaving out the middle episode.
When checking the same feed in other feed readers, all 3 episodes show up fine.
How can I make sure that subscribers are getting the episodes correctly, and will not have to re-subscribe every time there's a new episode?

    Thanks.
I subscribed in iTunes (manually) and both episodes downloaded just fine. Maybe the server where the files are hosted had a temporary problem?
You do have some problems with your feed (see http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.garagecast.net%2Ffeed%2F GarageCast_net.xml to check them out for yourself) but this isn't enough to cause problems with the files downloading.
