Failure of Lightroom 2 to Install

Just bought a new iMac and Lightroom 2 keeps failing when I attempt to install it.

Yes, you need to upgrade to LR4. LR2 requires PPC support, which is no longer avialable in newer versions of OSX.

Question: The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?

Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.
In any event, thank you for your help.

  • How do I tell the CC application manager that Lightroom is not installed on my pc?

Before i got CC i was using Lightroom 5 swedish version for evaluation. I used application manager to install an English version by setting the language to English but language after CC installation of Lightroom is still Swedish. Checking the language settings again after installation it was set to English. Now I uninstalled Lightroom using control panel to remove it completely and my intention was to reinstall it from CC. However, the application manager still claims that Lightroom is installed. How do I get the CC application manager to understand that lightroom is not installed and when I do reinstall it it should be in English?

This has nothing to do with your pictures. As long as LR works, nothing happens. The CC app merely has lost an entry in the installer database. Would a reinstall fix it? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really (until the next version or update). So unless you have too much time to spend or something isn't working, I'm sure you can find more interesting things to do with your tiem. Otherwise use the cleaner tool and get to it:

Adobe Creative Cloud says that lightroom 5 is installed but it is not on my computer, but I wish to use it. How can I install it??

I wouldn't think changing your password would have an impact but signing out of the Creative Cloud app and back in again might be something else to test. You might also try installing the trial version of Lightroom 5 and see if it appears in the list in the Creative Cloud app afterwards.

I have used lightroom for ~2 years and have lightroom 5.5 installed on a PC. Yesterday evening I uploaded a new set of photos which I cataloged and rated as usual. After that when I switched to the develop module trouble began. First thing was when using the crop tool the picture would disappear and only reappear once I closed the tool. Then exposure and White balance changes would change the histogram but not the appearance of the photo. Finally clipping was also not appearing on the picture. I first reuploaded the photos. No effect. Then I reinstalled lightroom. No effect. Help please!

  • Help! Lightroom freezes after installing.

I get this message after trying to create or open a catalog: "An error occured when attemting to change modules." Then Lightroom freezes.
I work on a Mac and have formatted and reinstalled my systemdisk with a qlean install. I had Lightroom installed and have used it for some years. But when installing the programs again I went for the Creative Cloud solution. When I tried to open my previous catalog I got this error message. And after several deinstallings and reinstallings I still get the same message and Lightroom freezes.
    Anyone who can help?

    Hi Ian.
Thank you for answering. But I find no such file in Preferences. I think Lightroom freezes before making the preference file. Other solutions?
    Best wishes,
    Magne

  • I purchased Photoshop CC but I already have Lightroom 5.1 installed. Do I need to re-install the Lightroom download that comes with the purchase of Photoshop CC?

I have purchased Photoshop CC that comes with Lightroom 5. I already have Lightroom 5.1 installed and wondering do I need to install the Lightroom that comes with Photoshop CC 2014?  Thanks

As  you bought the CC plan of Photoshop plus Lightroom, you should uninstall your standalone copy of Lr as it may interfere with the correct working of the CC version, and install the CC version.
I don't think that's true at the moment; the CC version of LR5 is identical to the stand-alone version, and it will interwork with Photoshop in the same way.
However, when LR6 is released then that comes free with CC but not with the stand-alone version.  So you might want to follow johnhawk666's advice when LR6 is released, if you haven't done it by then, or you won't get the upgrade to LR6.
By the way, uninstalling your existing LR5, then installing the CC version (via the CC app) shouldn't alter anything - your settings, catalog etc should be picked up by the new installation.  However, a wise person would back everything up first anyway, just in case!

  • Lightroom 5.7 installed cannot cut

Just installed Lightroom 5.7 to my Win 7 laptop, cannot cut & paste text from any other application or web page to the caption box in library. Any one else having same problem? Open to other suggestions.

Technically speaking, there isn't a CC version of Lightroom. There is only one version of Lightroom, but it is licensed in different ways. One way is through the creative cloud, and that requires that you login to the creative cloud application manager with your Adobe ID and password. The other way is to purchase the standalone license and install it using the serial number that you will be provided. Other than that the programs are identical. Of course, the standalone version cannot function with the Lightroom mobile feature because that requires a creative cloud subscription.
Some will maintain that it isn't necessary to uninstall standalone Lightroom and then install from the creative cloud application manager. I chose to do it anyway. I uninstalled my Lightroom 5 standalone version and then installed from the application manager. As soon as the installation was complete, I double clicked on the desktop icon for Lightroom and was right back in my catalog that I had been using. There was no interruption whatsoever, and there was nothing that had to be compensated for or adjusted.
Installing Lightroom from the creative cloud application manager installs Lightroom and Photoshop locally on your hard drive. The creative cloud is accessed periodically to verify that your subscription is paid up to date. But other than that the programs function locally on your computer.
