Failure to boot due to Biohd-4,-8 errors
My PC was built with Windows Vista OS. I installed W7 upgrade and I had no end of problems. Most important is boot failure. I ran the HP doctor diagnostics and was told the the PC ship, ram and Hard drive were OK, but the diognostics pointed out two errors. the first error was Biohd-8 and the second is Biohd-4. I am assuming that this means there is some problem in the Bios. The system will not boot all the way using the W7 repair disc or the old W Vista recovery discs. Help !!!
Lou, welcome to the forum.
The error codes (BioHD-4 & 8) are generated by S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). It is used to alert you to problems with your hard drive/s. It appears that you have a failed hard drive. The only way to solve the problem is by replacing the drive.

Mac Pro Display flicker & failure to boot
Hello people who are smarter than me.
I have a 2008 Mac Pro 3.2/ 8CX 8800GT with the original Geforce video card installed. When I turn the machine on I get a grey screen with a black bar at the top, with no evidence of an actual boot (such as a darker grey apple in the middle of the screen.
After a minute or so, the screen retains the form of the black and white horizontal bar at the top but adds a rapidly cycling/strobing organge red and yellow flicker reminiscent of the old Monty Python crazy title screens.... It looks like this if you blink fast enough... or take a still photo.
I live in Haiti, where a fair amount of dust is constantly invading my tower, so I've had dust related issues before with memory... THis time, I don't think it's that. I've cleaned out the tower with pressurized air, reseated the memory and reseated the video card as well, to no advantage. The problem first came when the computer was working fine and while my daughter was opening a page on Firefox the screen just started jittering with this little color show. At the time, though, you could still see the desktop behind all the flickering. Now the computer doesn't seem to even boot. If I have to fly to the states to fix this, I'd love to not have to haul the whole machine, so if we can get this down to a couple likely parts that I could travel with, test and replace, that would be great. This is a hardware issue, right? Would video card failure make sense of this AND the failure to boot? AND if I do replace it, is the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit still the ticket? If you help me, you'll be helping a lot of Haitians too, as I use this computer for humanitarian work with the Apparent Project. Help me Obi Geeks, you're my only hope!Okay, so after doing all of the above, the computer still takes between 40 seconds and 1 minute or so to boot up, and the VersionCue messages still appear. However I discovered that the "kdcmond cannot retrieve..." messages disappeared after I disabled my ethernet connections. So at least I know that that had nothing to do with the extended boot-up time.
I have heard that the more RAM you have, the longer it takes to boot due to the RAM count. Since I have 10 GB, maybe this is why?
I've included the most recent Console messages below:

Failure to boot after restarting, no distinct pattern.
My Mac Pro has an issue where every third or fourth restart the mac will fail to boot, needing me to hold the power button until it turns off.
I get the grey apple and the spinning progress wheel for 30 seconds, then the screen stays grey and the apple is replaced by what looks like a circle with a diagonal bar through it. I believe this means something along the lines of 'No Bootable Directory Found'.
Before the 10.5.2 update this happened almost every restart. I'm using a Samsung Spinpoint 750gig drive as my boot drive, and the stock 500gig drive as a media disk.
I have tried several solutions. Repair permissions, Disk Utility from CD and run verify and repair disk, AHT extensive, TechTool Deluxe with surface scan, Format and Reinstall (twice), Memtest, NVRam.
Could the Samsung drive be bad even though I can't get any software to find a fault? Here is a console log of the most recent failure to boot. The events here are a restart, a failure to boot, a forced off and a power on. Hopefully this helps.

Pacman -Syu update, System not booting due to systemd
I have just done a full update on pacman, and now my system is not booting due to this message
systemd[1]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-gpt-auto-generator exited with status 127
Does anyone know what is causing this, and what a status code of 127 means?

fstab originally existed on my OS before the pacman upgrade. After the upgrade I got the error message mentioned above (and obviously the fstab was there since I didn't touch it). Then after reading that linked topic (where a similar error message was the cause of systems not booting due to a fstab), I deleted the fstab (or more accurately, moved it somewhere else)

There were lots of lines that started with drwxr. Also, where I typed parentheses above, there weren't any parentheses (that's just to show where the date and time would be). And on the very last item, those things listed in parentheses (which were not on the code) include some samplings of what was listed there (but not necessarily corresponding to the previous code in the line that I typed -- I just wrote down some of the words I saw throughout). There was only one word at the end of each line (or sometimes something like the very two last lines, which were var -> /private/var and one other somewhat like it with the var.delete code.
When I typed in the second line of code suggested, there was nothing, just a new prompt (that same weird prompt with the pound sign).
When I typed in the third line of code suggested, the output was the following:
ls: /private/etc/: No such file or directory
Also, when I typed in the very first line of code, there was no weird prompt thing...just a blank line with the cursor blinking. The prompt thing always appears after you type in something and hit return.
Hope that all makes sense (at least to the Apple geniuses out there). Thank you!! -
Intermittent failure to boot, flashing question mark or white screen
So, I've had two MacBooks with similar problems (I am a Mac consultant). The first one would intermittently boot to a white screen, often enough to be annoying. This current one is occasionally booting to a flashing question mark. My first thought is, of course, the hard drive, but in both cases the hard drive tests fine using SMART Utility, which is usually great at giving advance warning when a drive starts experiencing hardware errors.
On the first MacBook, the one with the white-screen boots, I tried reinstalling the system with no effect; replacing the drive eventually made the problem go away. The current MacBook, with the question-mark boots, has already had its drive replaced once, when the stock drive failed.
I will reseat the drive, which is all Apple could suggest. I just wonder if anybody else had experienced something like this and can offer any information about what might be going on.Thanks for the reply. Aside from finding that holding the mouse button down at boot might cause a flashing question mark, I already knew all that. I will ask the owner if she is leaning on the trackpad button when she starts up her computer in the morning.
I've already reset the power manager and the PRAM; we'll see if that makes any difference. The puzzling thing here is that the problem is intermittent.
I also need to ask her if, when the computer does boot to the question mark, there has been a chime first. Somehow I think there has to be, for the system to have gotten as far as looking for a boot drive. I couldn't find anything useful in the logs; not surprising, since if it can't find a drive to boot to, it won't have anything to write a log to.
Again, the mystery is why the failure to boot is intermittent. If it happened every time, I'd know what to do!
Thanks

Hello,
I have a Cisco IPS4255 that will not boot an image. I'm seemingly successfully completing a TFTPDNLD each time, but it keeps rebooting with the cannot find image in \ error.

#3- If the TFTP is rerun the entire cycle starts again. The IPS 4255 sensor appliance has only a single 512 MB internal CompactFlash module for storage by-default, so this part of the output you posted is interesting:

hdb: QalDisi QDAF@-510, ATA DISK drive

hdb: task_no_data_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
hdb: 484848 sectors (248 MB) w/1KiB Cache, CHS=481/16/63
As it appears that two (2) 256 MB ("248 MB") storage devices are being detected (despite the model of the first even containing "512MB" in its name).
I'd recommend double-checking that there is nothing installed in the "External compact flash device" slot located on the back of the appliance. See here for reference: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/7.0/installation/guide/hw_installing_4240_4255.html#wp2726
If there is a CompactFlash module installed there, eject and remove it, then power-cycle the appliance and attempt the re-image ("recovery") process once more. If the boot output still contains the same errors for hda and hdb, then it is probably a failing/failed CompactFlash module, so an RMA will likely be necessary to resolve. -
hello,
i getting the following error message in event id while backing up my SQL db by third party backing tool
BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device 'CA_BAB_MSSQL_e85860_10001_2085d987_ERP_DATABASE_ST_1'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).
<Data>995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.)
please suggest the solution.Hi pulkit,
According to your description, the actual error could be caused by but not limited to the following issues: Memory issues, Third Party issues, or SQL Server issues and so on. However, as shanky post, if you use an external or third party backup tool like
NetBackup, BackupExec, or one of the many other tools available for backing up SQL Server databases without having to write your own backup scripts, and the error occurs. You need to check if there are some issues about your VDI or SQLVDI.DLL. Meanwhile,
you also need to troubleshooting Memory Issue or the third tool issue. For more information about troubleshooting the error 995 when backing up database via the third party tool. You can review the following blog.
https://support.software.dell.com/kb/SOL14674
In addition, the error may include additional text from the operating system indicating that the disk is full. When performing a backup or restore operation with third-party backup software an additional message may occur indicating that the backup failed.
Perform the following tasks as appropriate:
1. Review the underlying system error messages and SQL Server error messages preceding this one to identify the cause of the failure.
2. Ensure that the backup and restore medium has sufficient space.
3. Correct any errors raised by third-party backup and restore software.
There is also detail about backing up database via T-SQL statement /GUI, you can review the following article.

boot data configuration missing or with errors
It probably means the BCD is missing or corrupt.
To repair this, you need to access the recovery environment. Microsoft says Windows 8 will eventually take you there if it fails to boot many times. You can also get there using a System Repair Disc or a Windows 8 installation DVD like this downloadable one. You need the 64-bit disc.
It's possble this will also work on your Toshiba machine. Restart the computer by pressing the power button and immediately start tapping the F12 key until the Boot Menu appears. Using the arrow keys, select <HDD Recovery>.
WinRE looks like this. Select Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
Lots of things to try. See KB2622803 for boot sector problems. The article assumes Windows Vista/7. The same fixes look different in Windows 8, but are all available.
If Automatic Repair (Startup Repair in 8.1) and System Restore fail, use the bootrec tool at the command prompt. This applies to Windows 8 also.
Use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issu...
Don't give up until you have tried replacing the BCD itself as follows. (Sometimes the partition is not named "c" and you need to try another letter.)
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

Hi, when I go to "select files to send" and click on "sent files" I get: "Internal Server Error (500) Your request could not be completed due to an internal server error". This never happened b4. I tried rebooting and that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi ,

How can I get a credit card re-instated with ITunes/Apple Store? It was blocked due to an ITunes billing error. Called customer (lacking in) service, but they were no help! The rep emailed that I had to get a new credit card No way.... --PB
Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.

hello abmporras, please report the issue to the developer's of the addon through the support channels listed at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/imacros-for-firefox/. they should be able to address the issue better.

Installed FSCM 9.2 Demo w/ tools 8.53 on OEL 6, Oracle DB, Booted Web/App/Prcs ok, but error "Authorization Error -- Contact your Security Administrator" on page. Has anyone encounter this issue. I have done most of the usual troubleshooting already.
Hi,
Roles linked to users are stored table psroleuser.
When I run following sql statement in my FSCM 9.2 demo env for user VP1, it returns 95 roles.
select * from psroleuser where roleuser = 'VP1';
And my environment is a ootb demo installation.
Here is an export of my config that you can try to load in your env, but something has definitely gone wrong for your env.

I keep trying to burn a CD-R in Iphoto, and every time iPhoto stops burning halfway through and i get this error message, "Attemp to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." I am using memorex CD-R's and have tried with 4 times with different CD's. Is this a software or hardware problem? Any info would be awesome
Export the photos to a desktop folder, right click on the folder and burn to disk - see if that is any different

BI Loads are failing still due to PXA_NO_FREE_SPACE ABAP Runtime error
Dear All,
Now BI loads (Background jobs) keep on failing due to ABAP Runtime error PXA_NO_FREE_SPACE .
Kindly suggest what could be done from BASIS Side and what we have to suggest to BI team regarding this error.
we know that this issue is caused due to memory issue .
Error log:
Runtime Errors PXA_NO_FREE_SPACE
Date and Time 11.01.2012 03:31:26
Short text
No PXA storage space available at the moment.
What happened?
The current ABAP/4 program had to be terminated because there
was no space available to load it.
Each ABAP/4 program to be executed is stored in a central
storage area that is divided between all users.
This area was too small to hold all currently active programs for all
users.
Resource bottleneck
The current program "SAPMSSY1" had to be terminated because
a capacity limit has been reached.
Error analysis
Unable to load a program of 210944 bytes.
The PXA ('program execution area') was too small to hold all
currently active programs for all users.
At present, the size of the PXA is set at 739716 Kbytes.
The largest contiguous and unlocked memory chunk has 0 bytes.
Kindly suggest
