Failure to Launch iTunes after Upgrading

I recently upgraded iTunes to whatever version is most current, and I cannot open it. Whenever I try to open it, I get a message that says
Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iTunes.Resources\iTunes.dll Verify that you have access to that directory
and it tells me Retry or Cancel. i have to click cancel because retry just brings the same message up. when i click cancel, it tells me "Fatal error during installation"
I have tried reinstalling the new itunes. i have even tried completely uninstalling it, but i cant do that either, it tells me the same thing about verifying that i have access to that file.
please help. i miss my music.

I associate that sort of message with file damage. (Often it will come with a 2330 error message number.) As often as not, the damage is associated with disk damage near the location of the file.
So let's try running a chkdsk over the C drive:

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? if so, does an iTunes install go through properly afterwards?
