Failure to launch plug-in - Aperture says master file still being imported

I'm trying to edit an image in PS3. When I do, I get the error "Editing Error. One or more of the selected version has a master file which is still being imported. Please wait for the file copy to complete and try again."
But the file has been properly imported. What's going on and how can I get my image to be editable once more?

There may be an issue with your Ap database, have a read of this page and run each of the steps, Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics.

  • IPhoto 9.2.3 keeps saying "photos are still being imported"

About an hour ago, I plugged in my DSLR and tried to import photos.  However, I accidentally clicked "import all 538."  Which, of course, was a mistake.  I tried stopping it, but it just froze, and now when I try to import photos, a notification box comes up saying, "Photos are being imported to the photo library.  Please wait for photos to complete."
Nothing on the sidebar shows anything importing.  How do I fix this?

Force Quit iPhoto (that's under the Apple Menu) and try again.

How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways  do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.

  • Aperture shows master files in diff location than it placed them

I know this must be simple, but I didn't find in when searching the forum. I imported images as referenced files while telling Aperture to copy the originals to a new location on an external hard drive where I want my master images to reside. The files showed up where they were supposed to, but when I looked in the 'Master Location' column in Aperture it seems to be telling me the master image is in the Aperture Library. The information matches the names I used for the folders and albums I created for storing the referenced images.
    What gives?

Just to be sure, try right-clicking on one image. Directly under the first item, "Open With External Editor" should be "Show In Finder". That means Aperture is tracking your referenced file. If "Show In Finder" is not there, then your photo was copied to the Aperture library and is being managed by Aperture.

  • Os x / aperture says crw files "corrupted or unsupported"

any ideas on why this happends? i have about 40 files i wanted to use for part of a larger product from my old s45 (I use it for underwater shots!) and the files themselves are fine, i can see them on my windows machine with photoshop with no problems, but when i try to access the same files from OS X i get an error, camera should be supported according to documentation.... what's the deal?

  • Can't disconnect it says that files are being used by another application

i can't just eject it or use the safely remove hardware icon and select ipod. nothing i've heard so far works when i click the usb port thing it jsut says: "The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later." I've had this problem before and i need to know how to make it safe to disconnect now

I had the same issue with my new iPod 4gb nano. To be perfectly honest, I fixed it and I'm not exactly sure what part of the process actually did the job, so I'm going to attempt to explain it as best I can.
Basically I bought the nano to replace my 160gb classic aka paperweight. I'm currently deployed and the thought of traveling back to the US without a portable music player made me shudder. Within 4 days new nano click wheel decided to do the whole dying thing where I could click the buttons but not scroll through my music/change volume. I took the defunct iPod back to the BX and they exchanged it. I got home and discovered the "new" one they gave me was actually one that had been returned..because it popped up as "josh's ipod" when I plugged it in. So I'm on my third device and you can imagine when my computer informed me said device was corrupt and couldn't be read by my computer..I was pretty peeved. It took 7 or 8 tries to get the new nano update to install on my slow connection and when it finally did..I got the message that the files were in use by another application and couldn't be restored. I restarted the computer, made sure all other applications were shut down, checked my virus software. No dice. I ejected the ipod from my computer, plugged it back in and went into itunes preferences and clicked on "reset sync history". I think at this point it then treated the iPod as if it had never been plugged into my computer before. I then attempted the restore again, it did its thing and I now have a nice, new functioning iPod.

  • Ipod says that files are being used by another application...please help!

My ipod lost all of my music but tells me that there is apparently still the same amount of memory used, i just can't access my music. To fix this, i'm trying to restore my ipod and just resync the music. However, every time i click restore i get the message "Itunes can not restore Ipod because it contains files in use by another application" even though there are no other applications running. I've ever tried restarting the computer to be sure that no applications are running. Please help!

  • IPhoto and therefore my whole computer will not turn off because it say's "Photos are being imported to Photo library, Please wait for import to complete." How do I stop the upload?

I have tried turning off iclowd and other things that would automatically upload photos but that still didnt work. I can not upgrade my computer because it wants to restart the computer, but iphoto stops the shut down process. It says I need to wait for the download to complete. But I can not find anything uploading. please help.

It has said this for about a month now and I would just hide iPhoto since I could not close it. I have not needed to turn off my computer until now. But now it is a problem because I can not upgrade my computer

  • How to import Fixed Asset Master File

    Hi all expert,
I used BAMasterDataImportFile to import the Fixed Asset. But the message as below appear :
"Import end;Number of successfully imported assets: 0;Number of processed assets:2"
After complete import the fixed asset master files still empty. May i know anybody can advise me for import fixed asset files?
    Thank for help.
    From:
    Eric Tan

    Hi Eric,
Please refer your error with the possible reasons below (from SAP notes):
Error message: "Import End; Number of imported assets:0; Number of processed asset:2"
Reason: Note that there is no error. It is usually because of the conflict of Depr. Start Date , Use Life and Remaining Life.
The following is a list of possible errors:
    1. Fixed Asset in Production Mode -- Make sure Fixed Asset is in Transfer mode before importing.
    2. The number of semicolons for each line is not 66 -- For each line, each field must be separated by a semicolon(, the number of separators( should be 66.  Number( = 66.
    3. Wrong Date Format DD-MM-YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY -- The correct date formats should be : YYYYMMDD, YYYY-MM-DD, YYYY.MM.DD or YYYY/MM/DD
    4. Asset Class unavailable -- The asset class in your csv file does not exist in Fixed Assets; make sure the used asset classes are defined in Fixed Assets before importing.
    5. Depr. Type unavailable -- The given depreciation type does not exist in Fixed Assets, make sure the used depreciation type is defined in Fixed Assets before importing.
    6. Depr. Area unavailable -- You entered data for a depreciation area that does not exist. If there are only 2 depreciation areas in Fixed Assets do not enter data for area 3 or 4.
    7. Depr. Area is inactive for asset class  -- You entered data in the csv file for an area that is not active for the given class in Fixed Assets.
    8. Life parameter is negative or the remaining life is greater than planned life -- All life parameters should be positive, the remaining life should be less than the planned life
Life Parameters(Depr. Start Date, Useful Life and Remaining Life) are mathematically incorrect for one of the areas in csv. Remaining life = Useful life - (the difference between the first date of import year and depreciation start date). Note that it is not the difference between import date(the date you import Fixed Asset Master Data) and depreciation start date. You must calculate the remaining life correctly. For example, you want to import an asset in 2005, you import it on 2005-09-01 ,then the first date of the import year is 2005-01-01, Depr. Start Date = 2003-06-01, Useful Life = 60 months, then
          Remaining Life = 60 - (2005-01-01 - 2003-06-01) = 60 - 19 = 41 months.
          The following calculation is wrong:
          Remaining Life = 60 - (2005-09-01 - 2003-06-01) = 60 - 27 = 33 months
Import Fixed Asset for the current fiscal year -- The fixed asset master data import function is designed for legacy data importing. We recommend you to import fixed asset master in the past years. If you insist on importing an asset for the current fiscal year, make sure the depreciation start date is the first date of current fiscal year and the Remaining Life is the same as the Useful Life.
Year Values -- the sum of the accumulated depreciation (planned, unplanned and special depreciation) in the csv file is greater than the acquistion and production costs.
Also, don't forget to change the fixed asset mode to transfer. Administration>System initialization>Company Details> Basic initialization tab.
    Hope this helps.

  • Aperture 1.1 update still a failure.

    Dear group members:
After purchasing Aperture as soon as it came out and realizing how plagued the application was with problems, I decided to set it aside and simply forget it. I contacted Apple and the Apple store where I purchased the software in an attempt to have a refund for my purchase but it was all in vain.
I don't wish to beat on a dead horse as I believe it has now become clear that Aperture's release was premature and everyone realizes that Aperture still has quite a long way to go before it can even remotely be considered a professional application.
Now the subject has resurfaced as Aperture's price has been lowered and Apple announced the 1.1 version of Aperture available for download.
In an attempt to behave in a open-minded fashion I downloaded the update to see if it could bring welcome improvements to Aperture and transform it into a useable application. I was very disappointed to learn that no sigfinicant changes have been made and Aperture remains a failure.
I am running Aperture on my Powermac G5 dual 2.0 GHz processor with (2) internal 400 GB hard drives, (2) external 500 GB hard drives, (2) external 1 TB hard drive, 2.5 GB RAM, OS X 10.4.6 and an Apple 23" Cinema display. Configuration can't be the reason why Aperture performs so poorly. After updating Aperture to the latest version I tried to import my iPhoto library and was actually able to do it although the process seemed to have taken forever and the photos I have stored in the iPhoto library were all taken with a point-and-shoot 3.3 megapixel Olympus camera that can hardly be considered as a Pro camera. Then I tried to import several folders containing RAW images produced by my 6 megapixel Nikon D70 SLR digita camera (approximately 25 folders) and at this point the process seemed so slow I had to quit and start the process again since I didn't know if it was normal for the application to take that long or if there was a problem.
Performance has not been improved and I can't believe this is how this application is supposed to perform on a machine as fast as mine. Never mind trying to run it on my Powerbook G4 17". It becomes so slow it is impossible to work with it.
How can such a "Pro" application perform so poorly ? After all this time is this the best Apple can do with this application ? The company has had some 6 months now to have these bugs fixed and improved the application's performance but it is still a disaster. Despite the recent price reduction Aperture remains an expensive application that claims to address the needs of professional photographers when in reality no professional photographer would consider it seriously in light of its performance issues as well as many flaws.
(Interesting thing is that I run Adobe's Photoshop, Bridge and Camera Raw trio and they all perform just fine. I often have all three running simulatenously and together they still perform way better than Aperture running alone. How can this be ?)
Aperture has a very interesting and even pleasant user interface. I believe the application holds a lot of promise but Apple has to take its development a little more seriously and show a little more respect for its consumer base. The product was released prematurily and not enough time was spent on its development. Adobe has taken the right approach with Lightroom and has released the software as a free beta download so users can try and provide suggestions and feedback to help the company improve it until it is ready to be released. Why didn't Apple do the same ?
In all it is a shame what customers such as myself have gone through with Aperture and how Apple chose to handle the issue. The development team responsible for Aperture should be dismissed and replaced by software designers that actually know what they are doing and have enough experience with photography to create a truly professional application.
Apple should learn from this episode that it shouldn't rush to release a new product before it is really ready just for marketing's sake.
Aperture can become a very interesting product - not one to compete with such a mature application as Photoshop but one to manage the digital workflow and replace both Adobe Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw. But in order for this to happen the Application will have to be redesigned from the ground up and it will have to focus on serious core issues such as library model (no proprietary library), excellent RAW conversion, reliable metadata tools and management and many other features that professionals simply can't work without.
Are all of you having the same disappointing experiences with the performance of version 1.1 ?
    Best regards,
    Joseph Chamberlain

    Hello,
yes, you are right. I agree, 1.1 is a modest update. There is lot too improve, I think. But I want to offer some thoughts.
On 1. You got iView? Than your aperture library is accessable to you. iView can look into Aperture´s library which is in fact a package full of folders. Every master image resides in its own folder. This is only a workaround and takes time. I fear, Apple never intended to create another archival tool. Aperture is more of a workflow power horse.
On 2. Offline Archiving is not neccessary when you organize your Harddrive Archive thoughtfully. Look inside Peter Krogh´s Dam Book about Digital Asset Management for Photographers http://www.thedambook.com/. He suggests a folder structure with folders as big as your smallest Backup-media, 4 GB for DVDs. Name those folders DVD_06-04-18 and burn each folder on its own DVD. This way your harddrive folder structure is similar or equal to your offline archive. Works great.
On 3. Apple decided not to alter RAW files at all. This has its limitations but is the most secure choice. I like to insert metadata with iView too because it is comfortable.
    5. Please see my reply at 1.
    6. Agree. And user custom presets with automatically filled in IPTC fields (copyright notice, photographer, contact etc.) like iView offers would be great.
    7. Agree a lot.
I would add faulty Webtemplates and a still needed better RAW conversion.
But besides all that - I would say, Aperture is a great addition to my workflow.
    kind regards, eberhard

  • Aperture cannot locate master files when upgrading to new OS X Leopard

I have recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. The problem I have encountered is that when trying to locate the master files of my pictures, Aperture cannot because it thinks my files are in my hard drive located in my previous OS X and that the volume is not mounted. I cannot 'Relocate Masters for Projects' or bring my masters back online since it is the hard drive I am currently running Leopard. Does anyone else have this problem and possibly a resolution? Thank you very much.

I had a similar problem, and this how I fixed this.
Select all the files, and either select "Manage Referenced Files" from the File menu or from the contextual menu when you right click the selected files. Use the dialogue that appears to navigate to your master files [make sure that "Show only Files Not Found" is NOT selected] and reconnect your files. If you have files in a number of albums/projects/folders this may take some time.
Quit Aperture, and if a dialogue shows up saying that it is updating previews DON'T SELECT CANCEL. When you re-launch Aperture everything should be fine.

  • Missing master files in Aperture 2

I (like a lot of others on here!) am having trouble with my photos in Aperture 2 displaying the yellow exclamation mark and grey arrow badge.
When I go to File > Relocate Master..., I get a message saying they cannot be found.
I searched on one photo's filename through spotlight and found the images in "User"/Pictures/Merged Libray (which is the name of my iPhoto library)/Masters/ then a string of numbered subfolders, 2011/04/12/ etc.
BUT when I go back to Aperture and go to File > Manage Referenced Files in order to reconnect them (is this right??), the folder "Masters" of my iPhoto library does not appear in the bottom navigation pane of the Aperture dialog box. I can navigate to the Masters folder through Finder by asking to "Show package contents" for iPhoto, but this is not an option in the Aperture window.
Does anyone know how I could fix this? Could I perhaps copy the iPhoto "Masters" folder files, create a new folder on the desktop or some such, and ask Aperture to speak with them? That seems a bit convoluted.! :S Hope someone can help!
    I am on a 15" MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.7, Aperture 2.
    Cheers

A mistake I used to make that resulted in this is when I import photos, not double checking the option to save them into the Aperture library, or leave them where they already are on the hard drive.  Then, I'd delete the originals, and bang, exclamation points.
If Aperture says there's no physical Master file anymore, then there's not.  Back track and figure out when/where you moved the originals or if you deleted them.  It's always safer to doube check an import is placing the Masters into Aperture's own library.
If they're in iPhoto now, delete them from Aperture, re-import them from iPhoto.

New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File>Import>Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos in place on the file system.  All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.  What?

All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.
That has been true for the previous Aperture versions. Now Aperture simply treats the original image files exactly as they are in the imported library. Referenced images will stay referenced, managed will be imported as managed. But you can always relocate the imported managed images afterwards by using "File > Relocate".

  • I can't delete the master file, which is located on my external HD, through aperture

I import a folder to aperture which is stored on my external HD, and keep the originals on the HD.  If I try to delete a master file with the option, file-delete master image and all versions, the photo deletes from Aperture, but not my hard drive.  I have even tried to delete my trash, but no luck.  Please help, otherwise I do not want to use aperture for file management, which was one of my major reasons for buying it.

After you've deleted a file it from the project it goes into Aperture Trash. When you empty Aperture Trash (Aperture>Empty Aperture Trash) you will get a dialogue box asking "Are you sure you want to permanently delete all items in the Trash?" Under this there is a checkbox giving you the option to "Move referenced files to System Trash". If you check this box it will move the master to the system trash, and from there you can permanently delete the file.
All this is to stop you from accidentally deleting work.
