Failure to Launch since Leopard install

Since installing leopard 10.5.2 I can't launch idvd (version4). I am constantly given the error message "failure to launch" Any suggestions? Are there any downloads that may be able to fix it?

Hi
NO - there is no solution.
You need a version more modern than iDVD 5 to be able to run under Mac OS X.5 !
No there are no download-fixes.
alt. Partioning the hard disk or use another FW external one with an older Mac OS
and start (boot) from this when doing DVDs.

    Hi Neill
    Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/PubSub.framework/Versions/A/PubSub
Per the above, your computer is missing a critical OS X file. Do you have another machine with OS X Leopard installed? If you do, I'll give instructions for copying that file from one machine to another.
    If not:
If you have another browser installed, such as Firefox, download and run the 10.5.1 Update. If you don't have access to another browser, I suggest you pay a visit to an Apple Store or a certified Apple Tech location to assist you with these suggestions.
After the Install/restart of the Update, "repair permissions" etc. Do not use the computer while the update is running. Restart Safari. (you might get lucky if the update adds the file to your system).
If no go, then I suggest reinstalling the OS using the Archive and Install method.

  • G5 won't wake from autosleep, fan runs loudly, ever since Leopard install

I recently installed Mac OS X v10.5.0 Leopard and 10.5.1 update on my G5. Sometimes when the computer puts itself to sleep the G5 fan starts running full out and does not seem to stop. Usually I am able to wake the computer up from sleep just by moving the mouse or pressing any key. But when the fan starts running hard I am not able to get the computer to wake up again.
Energy Saver settings are one hour for computer, 15 minutes for display, and "Put hard disks to sleep..." is checked. The problem does not arise when the screen goes to sleep or when the hard drive rests, only when the computer itself goes to sleep and then only occasionally.
This problem did not occur ever under v10.4.11 or earlier. In fact I hardly ever hear the fan running. Thus I am suspicious that it is somehow related to the Leopard install.
I have noticed other posts similar to mine, but no apparent solutions. Some posts mentioned a Logitech mouse upgrade being necessary but I am using a Microsoft 3000 Wireless Optical Mouse and no software is needed for it to function.

Any time you have power management or sleep/wake problems, a good first step is to reset the low level controller that handles that stuff in your Mac. For intel-based Macs this is the SMC. For Power-PC based Macs this is the PMU.
Go to the main Support page here and, in the search field at the top LEFT of that page, search for "reset SMC" or "reset PMU" as is appropriate. In the list of Knowledge Base articles returned, find the instructions specific to your model of Mac. It is not hard to do in any case, but you do need to find the right instructions for your Mac. Note that resetting a PMU will likely require you to manually correct the Date and Time (System Preferences / Date & Time) the next time you log in.
While you are at, also reset Parameter memory (PRAM). PRAM holds copies of certain system settings for rapid access, and if it gets out of whack all sorts of odd things can happen. The instructions for resetting PRAM are the same for all Macs. Shut Down the computer. Locate the 4 keys Apple-Option-P-R. Press and hold all 4 of those keys and, while doing so, press and release the power button. Keep those 4 keys held down until you hear the SECOND startup chime, then release them. Your computer will continue to boot up normally.
Once you log in, go to Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. Select the line in the column on the left showing the name of your main hard drive. Then click on Verify Disk in the panel on the right. Be patient, this will take a while and the progress bar may not advance until the very end. If Verify Disk finds any problems you will need to boot directly from your Leopard Install DVD (hold the "c" key while booting and insert the disk shortly after pressing and releasing the power button) and, instead of proceeding with a new intall, run Disk Utility from the menu bar. Once again select you main hard drive, but this time do a Repair Disk.
Once Verify or Repair Disk shows no problems, go back to Disk Utility while booted from your main hard drive (if necessary) and this time do a Repair Disk Permissions. Once again, be patient. This will take a while (20 minutes or so) and the progress bar may not advance until the very end. This may produce a variety of messages, but if it finishes with "Permissions Repair Complete" you are good to go.
Now Restart the computer and, once logged in, run Applications / Disk Utility / Console. Select "All Messages" in the column on the left. If this is the first time you've done this, Console will take a while getting organized -- initially the message list may be empty.
Now try commanding your computer to Sleep and then Wake from sleep. Check the Console messages to see if any problems are reported.

  • Can't launch i movie or Google Earth since leopard installed.

Keep getting IMovie and Google Earth message "quit unexpectedly". Added Leopard and Ilife o8 since last night.
Also are all the updates being offerd by Apple because of Leppard.

Upgraded the OS? This is usually an installation issue. There is an easy fix. Do a forum search for ProKit.

  • Photoshop CS3 (nor CS2) won't launch since CS3 install

Since installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium I can no longer open Photoshop. It repeatedly crashes on the launch window. For the sceptical, my CS3 Production Premium collection was all legitimately authorised and registered.
Of the other CS3 apps that installed (can't install Encore, Premiere or Soundbooth on PowerPC) they all open and run perfectly fine.
I uninstalled all CS3 and re-installed CS2. Now Photoshop CS2 won't open either (but everything else is still fine). Exactly the same problem, Photoshop crashes during the launch window.
What has CS3 changed to my system that prevents Photoshop opening and can I correct the issue? From searches on this subject Someone suggested repairing permissions before and after installing CS3. This had no effect.
    Thank you for any help.

You can try trashing and regenerating Photoshop preferences when you launch.
Hold down command/option/shift while launching Photoshop. You will be asked if you want to get rid of Photoshop settings. Choose yes.
See if this works; you may have to reset some of your Photoshop preferences afterward. I'm not sure why you can't install the other applications.
Also, it may have something to do with activation; did you activate your copy of CS3? You should be able to have CS3 and CS2 both running as far as activation is concerned, but are they on the same drive? This might be a problem if one version is trying to read the other's settings during launch.

  • Most apps working poorly since Leopard installed

Since upgrading to Leopard I am having some difficulty with several things. I am unable to Restart or Shut Down. I have to power down and restart manually. Some apps freeze and I can't force quit. Time Machine doesn't work as it doesn't recognize my ext harddrive. The list can go on. I have re-installed with no improvement. Please Help.
    Thank you

I agree. This is most likely unrelated to BootCamp but simply the Leopard upgrade.
The question would be if the Windows side works properly.

  • External drives no longer mounting on other Mac since Leopard Install

I have recently upgraded my old iMac to a Mac Mini with Leopard, however since using my Iomega 320GB External Hard Disk and also my 2GB Kingston USB Stick on my Mini they no longer mount on my old iMac, it's like Leopard has somehow created a volume on them ensuring they won't mount elsewhere anymore.
I still have lots of files on my old iMac that I need to transfer over to my Mini so this is a problem to me.
    Any ideas?

  • Mail keeps launching since I installed Mountain Lion

I do not use Apple Mail. Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion it keeps launching and demanding my attention. How can I stop this?

I've been a Mac user since 1984 and this is one of the more frustrating times I've had with Macs.
I'm having the same problem. You can't delete the Mail app so the best I've been able to do is go in and edit settings to remove all email accounts that Mail thinks I have. That didn't stop it, however. It just reduced the amount of alerts I kept getting. Turning off notifications for Mail doesn't help, either. It just keeps launching several times a day. I use Gmail and don't need Mail.

I know this is not the forum for paralells, I have asked the question there to but I wanted to ask if anyone has had problems running windows with paralells using new mac osx leopard?

Yea, lots are experiencing that issue. Check those parallel forums (http://forums.parallels. com) and you'll find some fixes for it. I can't get that forum to load right now btw. Good luck.

  • Since leopard unable to launch lightroom

Since I installed leopard (now 10.5.1) on my Power PC G4, Adobe Lightroom (latest version) starts to launch but stalls and I am left with a simple menu that allows nothing to be done. No modules showing. I am using latest lightroom and updated my two epson printer drivers. Photoshop elements launches but no luck with lightroom. Any suggestions? I had a similar problem pre leopard with elements and it turned out to be a scanner conflict.
    Thanks

To John, Isaac's Dad and DonRicklin,
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help. After a clean install of 1.3.1 the program came up, asked me if I wanted to start a new catalog and all was well. I am amazed that first of all you could do a clean install on what I thought was an upgrade and that someone could figure that this might be the solution. This makes my Christmas. The other truly amazing thing is that there are nice people out there that are willing to give of their time to help perfect strangers. You guys deserve to be congratulated. Now I can get back to getting my printer to cooperate with leopard and the lightroom and elements.
Thanks again and have a great holiday season.

  • Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8), masking in QuickTime 7Pro has stopped working.  Has anybody experienced this?  Is there a work around?  Can I use FCP to add masks to video?

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8) a month ago, the masking function in QuickTime 7Pro (v. 7.6.6) stopped working.  Masks disappeared in old videos where I had previously and successfully added a mask, and I could not longer use QT 7Pro to add a mask to a new video.  When I installed Snow Leopard I also installed QT X, but I found QT 7Pro in the Utilities folder, so it is still there but the masking function is definately not working.
    Has anybody else experienced this?
Is there a remedy so I can recover my older masked videos, and make new masked videos?
Can I make masked videos in Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks!

  • Can't print to pdf since I installed Snow Leopard.

I make newspaper ads all the time in Illustrator CS4 on a Mac.
I always print them to pdf files. Never had any trouble doing this.
However, since I installed Snow Leopard I can not print to pdfs.
I go through the usual motions and then... just nothing happens.
Are there known issues with AI CS4 and Snow Leopard?

I was having the same problem. Basically, you now have to "save as" then "to PDF" to get the same results. Although this new method give you more choices in terms of output, i.e. saving layers, image resolution, it has also produced larger PDF files. I will then have to open the document in Acrobat and "reduce file size". I do wish they would bring back the print to PDF option. Go to the link below to read more. If you figure out how to produce the same results and get the small files sizes back please share.

  • IPhoto 08 "freezes" since I installed Leopard

IPhoto opens then "freezes" and I have to do a force quit since I installed leopard. I have tried reinstalling iLife 08 but still happens. All other applications Photoshop etc work fine. Anyone got any ideas.

So I did the troubleshooting basics done, and what I get are:
No problems, in the new account...I log back to my main account and no problems either.
The next time I restart my computer, I import some photos, try to do some editing, and it still freezes up.
You say that it may be in the main account, how would I be able to fix that problem? Could I do an erase-and-install method of Leopard? (After backing up the files I want).
Will that COMPLETELY CHANGED ALL my files...including system files? (sorry for the newbie question).

  • Ever since I installed the update of Leopard 10.5.2 I cannot open itunes!!

Ever since I installed the update of Leopard 10.5.2 I cannot open itunes!!
I get a message that says:"The itunes library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I did do a permissions fix with the disk utility and same problem!
    Any suggestions???
I think I might be demanding my money back for this Leopard!

Below where you see the Read and Write permissions on that folder there is a little triangle next to the word Details. Scroll down a bit and you'll see a tab to click to Apply to Enclosed Items. If it says you have read and write on the main folder, click the Apply button to make sure that all folders inside the main folder also have both Read and Write permission.
