Failure to Restore

Alright so let me explain my issue. I own an Iphone 4. I haven't updated the software since I got it and then one of my friends said to update it so I can get 4g. I said alright and when I updated my iphone it said I need to back up my data so I can restore it after it updates. So it backs up my data and then when I restore my information I get an error that the back up is corrupt. I already researched this and I heard something about when you update from such an old software sometimes the back up can get corrupted, and I searched on my own for the backed up folder and to my suprise there isn't one. So my contacts, dates, apps, everything is gone. I didn't have iCloud or any of those programs before hand but I am wondering is it possible that my phone copied over the information some where else, like for instance my email or some type of sim card inside the iphone(throwing around ideas.)
Some extra information.
I have the latest iTunes.
No problems with my iPhone so far.
Please respond quickly, thank you in advance for any help given.

The latest BB link is 1.2.1.31 or higher try installing that and then rebooting both your phone and PC and try again.

  • TS3694 failure in restoring firmware of my iphone and error code is 1015

    I have a failure in restoring the firmware of my iphone and it gives me an error code of 1015 even though I am connected to the internet.

    This may not help your situation byt it explains the error code
    Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.

  • Upgrade failure, then restore failure, error code is 1604

    IOS 5.01 upgrade to IOS 5.1 failure and can't restart, then restore failure and the error code is 1604

    Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
    If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
    Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
    Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
    iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
    If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Getting "Firmware Update Failure" when restoring

    My ipod mini kept giving me the folder and exclamation point icon and resetting didn't work to make it stop. I tried a few times to restore, but it keeps giving me the message "Firmware Update Failure. Disk Write Error" whenever I try to restore. Now what do I do? My ipod still just gives me the folder icon.

    A couple of tricks to try:
    1) Plug in whatever was last connected (charger, peripheral) and then try rebooting. Sometimes it just wants to see the last config
    2) Try mounting on PC as USB drive (may take multiple tries). If successful, then REFORMAT just like an external HD.
    At that point, you can "start over" with iPod update.

  • PXI 8156B Battery Failure and restore harddrive.

    Hi,
    I am working on restoring a very old system built using PXI8156B, attached are the snaps.
    The system has damaged OS. I want to restore by ghost image which was captured just before final system was ready for operation.
    The CPU module has battery failure which cause "Loading defaults" thereby booting from C. I tried making boot sequence "A,C" but was no success.
    I would like to know how do I restore the battery..? There doesn't seem removable battery.
    How can I restore the ghost image if battery solution fails..?
    Kindly advice.

    I would like to erase a partition that I have on my 30gb internal harddrive.
    Do you have more than one partition on the HDD? I suspect you have only one since the HDD is only 30 GB.
    Your computer is now 8 years old, as is the original HDD. The average life of these drives is 3 to 5 years, so your HDD is well past old age. You may be getting the error messages because your drive is failing.

  • Time Machine and iTunes: hd failure, tm restore, itunes permissions problms

    Hi,
    Can someone please help me?
    I had my brothers old laptop, a powerbook g4 al 15" 1.25 ghz, 2 gig ram, 80g hd. The hd failed a couple days ago with big clicks that sounded like that arm slapping backing a forth. So, I bought a new 160 gig hard drive from ifixit, and replaced that yesterday. I installed leopard. I wanted a fresh install, so I just installed in normally, and then went manually into the external hard drive (500gb), and tried getting some of my music back from itunes in the time machine backup folders. It did not work well, and I could not find all of them, so, I re-instered the leopard install disc.
    I restored from Time Machine (not migrate because i did not know about it at the time), and have what looks like my old laptop back. Now I went to copy my itunes music from my laptop to my iphone, and here is my problem:
    My iTunes now says that 49 of my files are not authorized to play on this computer. I could give the exact error; it is: "..." well actually I can't right now because I am running onyx to try to fix disk permissions, so when that is over I could give the error message.
    Does anyone know what to do?
    The end of all this is to backup all my iTunes music on a disk (which includes downloads from emusic.com), and then delte the whole OS, and reinstall leopard, again, with a fresh install, but this time with my itunes restored.
    Thanks,
    JW

    in that case it shouldn't count as a new computer when you authorize it. If for some strange reason it does count as a new computer you can deauthorize all your currently authorized computers and then authorize the ones you need.
    To do that in iTunes go to Store menu->View my accounts, and then click Deauthorize All. If you don't see this option, it's because you don't have five authorized computers.

  • Problems with storage after failure of restore from TM back up.

    Okay, so I've become so frustrated over this that I've decided to see what is the issue. After a horrible incident where I inadvertedly removed the OS start up disk (I unsuccessfully installed Windows 8 without the proper drivers...long story really), etc I was forced to restore my hard drive back to stock through the Genius bar. They recommended that I restore my files with using "Users" from Time Machine because I had backed up everything. Unfortunately, the two times I've tried to restore from backup, it would always stop at 52% (I had about ~250gb to restore) so I just stopped trying and if I needed any files, I would manually transfer them. Anyway, my issue is that I just recently noticed (a month after trying to restore) that I have about ~200gb in my "other" category. In theory, that shouldn't be the case because there is barely anything on my computer. Barely. I've looked at so many websites and so far, no idea... Any ideas? Should I just wipe my hard drive clean again?...because this is getting ridiculous. Thanks in advance.

    First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
    To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
    You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
    Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
    ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
    Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
    When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Syncing Failure on Restored, "Click Wheel" iPOD

    I have restored my iPOD and I'm trying to re-sync it. It stops 10 minutes later, at 2 Gigs (I'm trying to sync 36.) The computer reads "Syncing iPOD, do not disconnect" but it's not checking off songs anymore. I have tried this several times and it always stops early on, but not in the same place. After having a problem with deleting text messages I decided to wipe out data (restore to factory settings) then restore my latest backup,back in again on my BBQ10.
    Blackberry link won't restore my data or settings. It just keeps on failing to start restoring as if it cannot read the backups, though I've tried with 3 different ones.

  • Failure to Restore Operating System on HP ENVY M6 1218TX

    Ok, so long story short I bought a HP Envy m6 (1218tx) Notebook PC in March and ever since I took it out of the box, it has a BSOD every half an hour.  Since then, The Problems have escalated and it came to having a BSOD every 5 minutes. I had restored the operating system numerous times throughout the time that I've had it, but to no avail.
    I recently tried to restore the operating system again, but it had a BSOD while in the middle of the recovery process. Now, whenever I try to boot the computer, it will show the "Logging in screen" of "Administrator" and after a while, it will show an error message that says "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer,
    Problems got worse when I tried to enter the HP Recovery Manager ( Pressed ESC and then F11 to enter Recovery Manager) and then put me in the same place when it showed the "Logging in Screen" for "Administrator" again, then the same error message, then the cycle again.
    THIS COMPUTER HAS HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS SINCE I GOT IT AND I EXPECT MORE FROM A $800 PRICE TAG.
    I ok with trying to fix problem, IF there is a solution.

  • App Store failure after restore

    My HDD crashed, I restored it from Time Capsule. Now App Store does not work. Any hints? Thanks, Aaron

    Install the Mac OS X Update Combo and perhaps it will fill in the gaps and fix any corruption that has been caused by your backup and restore scheme.

  • Another update failure and restore

    An observation after another updater failure.
    Do NOT update on a shared USB port. I have a USB dongle to let  several USB devices be on one port. This is not normally not t a problem with syncing, but this will not work with iPad OS update.
    Plug iPad directly into a USB port or it will probably fail. This is probably the same reason you can't plug into a keyboard USB port as not enough power to run the operation.

    Apple recommends the same when syncing as well.

  • IMac Drive Failure.  Restore Data?

    I have a mid-2007 iMac that has the latesst version of Mountain Lion installed on it.
    The computer was locking up often when waking, and lately Mail's data was getting currupted ... prompting me to have to rebuild the index.  This happened twice.
    So, I ran Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk.  It stopped shortly into it, said to reboot via (Command-R) and run it again from there.
    So I did, and again after trying to verify I got errors quickly and the verification cutoff.  It said to Repair, which I tried, and that failed.
    From that point forward, I could no longer reboot.  The attempt to repair apparently was the final straw.  Any attempt to boot results in the iMac shutting itself off about 60 seconds after getting the Apple logo with a small grey status bar.
    Since then, I have tried connecting the broken iMac to a working one via Firewire, and that didn't work.  I tried installing OSX onto an external drive -- verified that I could use it to boot the working iMac, then moved it to the broken Mac.  That didn't work -- on boot, the computer doesn't auto shut off, but it just spins on the grey apple logo scene forever.
    I'd really like to get some data off that internal drive.  Any ideas?

    That should've worked. Was the external drive formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled) using the GUID partition scheme? Is this a FireWire or USB 2.0 drive? Is the external drive bus powered or does it use its own corded power supply? What version of OS X were you installing on the ext. hard drive?

  • Continual Backup Session Failure after restore

    Why does my backup session continue to fail?

    I would refrain from messing around with iOS 7 or the iTunes beta for reasons such as this. Because I haven't used iOS 7 or the iTunes beta for myself, I can't give you a detailed response.
    I would recommend that you back up your phone through Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup.

  • Failure with cloning database structure and then restore from source db

    Hello, dear experts!
    I am trying to duplicate a database.
    First step was to use the DBCA to create a template. Because there is no downtime possible, I only created a template of the structure without user schema and without objects.
    At another destination I used this template to create a new database "CLON".
    This worked successful. The database is up and running. (But quite empty).
    Then I transferred the latest full backup of my source database to the new database. I have the same structure at the destiantion as at the
    source.
    Now I want to use rman restore to build up the clone with this backup. Therefore I start RMAN and connect to the target without catalog.
    "RMAN> restore database;"
    leads to:
    Starten restore um 27.09.07

    "RMAN> list backup;"
    does not show any results.
    "RMAN> crosscheck backup;"
    Zugewiesener Kanal: ORA_DISK_1
    Kanal ORA_DISK_1: SID=17 Gerõtetyp=DISK
    "RMAN> list backup;"
    does not show any results.
    To me this looks as if RMAN does not identify the/any backup.
    What has to be done to solve the problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    Hergen.

    Hi, I assume that by clone you mean a duplicate of the DB including ALL tablespaces and not just a few right? YOu want to also rename the DB according to what I read.
    As a note, your new database does not see the backups because you do not connect to the catalog, and you have no backup info as a result.
    Correct me if I am wrong if I misundestand your situation:
    First if you want to duplicate, you do not need to create an empty DB. Just create an new instance without any controlfiles or datafiles. Then you restore your rman backup
    You could perhaps adapt this procedure I have used recently to clone databases with RMAN backups: You just need RMAN backups, taken as hot backups is fine. You also need the controlfile autobackup from RMAN. If you do not want to use the catalog, you can use the controlfile as catalog, and register the backup info to the controlfile, then restore.
    Here is the procedure:
    RMAN RESTORE DB FROM COMPLETE LOSS (without use of catalog)
    1-     Install oracle db home and patch.
    Note: As much as possible, patch to the same version of the DB to be restored. If you do not, you should patch to a later release (do not do this if at all possible, as problems may occur). After opening with reset logs, you will have to startup with the upgrade option and run the cat upgrade script to update the DB to the current patchset.
    2-     Install or configure an instance on the desired node. It is not necessary to create a database.
    a.     Run oradim to create the instance.
    Oradim –new –SID sid –SYSPWD sysdbapass –STARTMODE manual|automatic –PFILE ‘….path to pfile….\initsid.ora’
    NOTE: The pfile is optional, required if you do not use a spfile
    b.     Create and configure a listener, as rman requires oracle net connectivity.
    i.     Use oracle utilities to create listener.
    ii.     Use oracle utilities to configure listener to register the instance just created. (or manually edit the listener.ora file).
    c.     Configure a tnsnames.ora file so that rman can reach the database through the listener.
    d.     Create all directories for datafiles, admin, redologs, archive, flash_recovery_area etc if required.
    3-     Create a pfile or get one (ideally the backups should include it).
    a.     Change paths in the pfile to reflect new file structure. Also change any settings that are relevant.
    Note: if using an spfile, then the rman controlfile autobackup will have it. In that case startup in nomount, start RMAN after setting ORACLE_SID=sid, with ‘RMAN target / NOCATALOG.
    Run this in rman
    RUN {
    SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO ‘………………..\CONTROL_%F’;
    RESTORE SPFILE TO PFILE ‘………\initsid.ora’ FROM AUTOBACKUP;
    SHUTDOWN ABORT;
    NOTE:
    -     If you do not have a specific archive file location (archivelog mode only) the flash recovery area size may need to be increased, depending on the number of archive files to recover.
    -     If restoring to a different instance (want to restore an old backup to a different db name, set the db_name in the pfile the same as the db name in the backups. You can rename the db later.
    4-     Get the backups desired to restore the DB, and make them available to the node where the restore is to be done.
    5-     Startup the database in nomount mode. Startup the service is necessary, then startup the database in nomount mode: specify the pfile location if not in a standard location.
    ‘STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE=’……\initsid.ora’’;
    6-     Get DB id from controlfile autobackup. Get the most recent controlfile autobackups from the backup files, and find the database id. Below is an example
    # CONTROL_c-XXXXXXXXXX-YYYYMMDD-ZZ
    # XXXXXXXXXX IS THE DBID
    7-     START RMAN after setting ORACLE_SID=sid, with ‘RMAN target / NOCATALOG’.
    8-     SET DBID. Get the dbid from above. Run ‘SET DBID XXXXXXXXXXXX;’
    9-     Restore controlfile
    RUN {
    SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '… \CONTROL_%F';
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP;
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
    NOTE: If restoring old files, then you must add MAXDAYS=xxx to the restore controlfile command, so that it will find the desired file. Default is 7 days. (explaining why it can’t find older then 7 days).
    10-     Catalog backup files. It is probable that the backup files restored will be in a different location once restored (applicable to disk backups). You need to catalog them in RMAN so that RMAN knows about them. List all backup files and run these commands for each backup and controlfile autobackup:
    ‘CATALOG BACKUPPIECE ….\CONTROL_C-310452700-20070918-01';’
    ‘CATALOG BACKUPPIECE …\BACKUP_HEIS8FIK_1_1';
    NOTES: If the backups are in the same location as they have always been, then a recatalog is not necessary, as the control file has the right backup files information.
    If the backups were restored to a different location, then a recatalog must be done so that RMAN can find them. If the regular location of backups is not available, then rman needs to be updated to reflect that. In that case run these commands:
         CROSSCHECK BACKUPS;
         DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP;
         CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
         DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;
    If this is test restore (to test disaster recovery for example), likely all the backups are still there, but it is desired to use the restored backup files only. RMAN needs to be updated to reflect that the regular backups do not exist. Make the regular backup files unavailable to RMAN (such are renaming a directory, or preventing access through security), and then run the above commands.
    11-     Find the datafile names and numbers. This is only required if datafiles are in a different location on the database to be restored.
    Using SQLPlus, set the oracle_sid, then run sqlplus / ;
    Run the following command
         Select file# as “file/grp#’, name from v$datafile; (for datafiles).
         Select group#, member from v$logfile. (for redologs)
    12-     Restore the database
    (use only if all datafile locations are the same!)
    RUN
    # allocate a channel to disk
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 2 G FORMAT '…path…\BACKUP_%U';
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    (use if datafiles are not in the same location)
    RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT ‘…\BACKUP_%U';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO ‘….\SYSTEM01.DBF';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 TO '…\UNDOTBS01.DBF';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 3 TO '…\SYSAUX01.DBF';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 4 TO '…\USERS01.DBF';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 5 TO '…\TOOLS_01.DBF ';
    # add other tablespace locations here.
    # We need to tell the controlfile the new location for the redologs
    SQL "ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE ''…\REDO01.LOG'' TO      ''…\REDO01.LOG''";
    SQL "ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE ''…\REDO02.LOG'' TO      ''…\REDO02.LOG''";
    SQL "ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE ''…\REDO03.LOG'' TO      ''…\REDO03.LOG''";
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    # we need to tell the controlfile the location of the new datafiles.
    SWITCH DATAFILE ALL;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    13-     Reset the logs. ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    NOTE: If the oracle home is of a newer revision then the database, the open resetlogs will generate an error. In that case open the database with the upgrade option and then run the catalog upgrade as per patch instructions.
    14-     Create a temporary tablespace. The system thinks it has a temp tablespace, but it needs to be recreated
    a.     Create another temp tablespace (modify as needed).
         CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp2
              TEMPFILE '......\temp02.dbf' SIZE 128M REUSE
              AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 16M MAXSIZE unlimited
              EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M;
    b.     Point the server to the new file
    ALTER DATABASE DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp2;
    c.     Delete the missing one:
              DROP TABLESPACE temp INCLUDING CONTENTS AND DATAFILES;
    d.     RECREATE THE temp tablespace;
              CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp
                   TEMPFILE 'd:\......\temp_01.dbf' SIZE 128M REUSE
              AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 16M MAXSIZE unlimited
              EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M;
    e.     Change system default tablespace again to temp:
              ALTER DATABASE DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
    f.     Delete the transition temp tablespace temp2:
    DROP TABLESPACE temp2 INCLUDING CONTENTS AND DATAFILES;
    15-     Rename the database if the restored database name needs to change.
    Use the nid utility to rename the db. IMPORTANT: the temporary tablespace needs to exist for this to work, or the db rename will fail and a restore will have to be done.
    Use :
    -     Shutdown database in immediate mode.
    -     Startup in nomount.
    -     Open command prompt.
    -     set oracle_sid = sid
    -     nid sys/pass dbname=newname logfile=….\logfile.txt
    -     shutdown the db (if required)
    -     Change the dbname in the pfile or spfile to the new dbname
    -     Create a new password file:
    o     Orapwd file=….. password=…
    IMPORTANT NOTE: if you rename a DB, your existing backups will not be valid, do backups of the newly renamed db!!!
    16-     Open the database and test.
    NOTE: Whenever you open with resetlogs, YOU MUST BACKUP YOUR DATABASE. Your old backups can only be used to restore the old DB.
    I hope this helps.
