Failure to use mobileme address for icloud

When I installed ios5 on my iphone and ipad I used my itunes address for icloud setup, rather than my mobile me address.  This seemed to make sense at the time, since all my purchases were tied to the itunes address.
Now I read that I should have used the mobile me address and that I can't change it for 90 days.
Since this was poorly documented and an obvious thing to do (my wife would have done it the same way) is there any way to short-circuit the 90 days?

If your phone is signed into an old iCloud ID and you are trying to change it to a newer version of the ID, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Using MobileMe address in iCloud

I did not registered my old MobileMe e-mail account in icloud before moving to icloud. Can I still use my old e-mail account or I have to open a new account?

If you did not migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud (at http://me.com/move) before 1 August your account has been closed and the contents deleted.
You can reactivate your @me.com address to use in iCloud - do not create a new iCloud accounts as you won't be able to add this address to it. Just sign in with your @me.com address in System Preferences>iCloud (Lion 10.7.2 minimum required) or Settings>iCloud on an iOS5 device.
You will be able to use the address but you will not be able to recover any emails previously stored on it, nor any files which were stored on your iDisk.
If you had an @mac.com version of the address (as a result of DotMac membership prior to MobileMe) you will not be able to reactivate that.
However, if you did migrate but have simply not signed it in to iCloud the same procedure applies; in this case the contents and any email aliases, will be transferred to the iCloud account. However any files which were in your iDisk are not recoverable.

  • Do I have to have a .me address for iCloud to work?

Do I have to have a .me email address for iCloud to work?
I want to keep my old email address.
Does the email get forwarded to the new address if the contact I have don't have my .me address?

iCloud email does not consolidate any of your existing email. It is just another IMAP mail server.  When you create an iCloud account you get a me.com address (or use an existing one if you are currently using MobileMe). If you want your email forwarded from an existing email account you will have to set that up with your current email provider.

  • My email addresses for iCloud have vanished

My email addresses for iCloud have vanished but I have not changed any settings. The only address option is my Apple ID one and it defaults to a none iCloud smtp address and the iCloud smtp is shown as offline?

Did you ever go through the migration process to switch your old MobileMe account to an iCloud account?  If not, then I'm afraid it's too late to do that.

  • Old email is closed.  I have no access to it.  Cannot change email address for icloud in system preferences, does anyone have a way this can be corrected?  I don't have access to icloud.

    Hi Joycars,
Can you not simply sign out of the iCloud account with the incorrect email? Not sure I'm following?

  • Using email addresses for account ids

Has anyone used email addresses for account and customer ids in Portal? The concern is that people may change email addresses frequently, but we don't want to lose their history and profile info, but we want their login to be easy to remember.
Alternatively, we could have people enter their email address, then go look for the corresponding account id and use that to authenticate them. Anyone have any input on this approach, pro or con?
    Thanks

input on this approach, pro or con?Sounds reasonable to me but you when you post questions like this your bound to get all sorts of opinions.
I would suggest seperating your authentication and tracking specifications. You should not rely on variable values to track user history.
Usersnames may change whether or not the username is a valid email address. The use an "internal" id for users that is not dependent on the current username, email etc. That way the user can change these as required and you don't loose all your history and tracking data.

  • The email address for iCloud for me is no longer in use. I need to change my email and password on my iPad.

On my iPad it will not let me change my email address. The old one is no longer in use and I cannot get emails on it any longer. How do I change iCloud email address on the iPad?

To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How can I change my email address for iCloud if I don't have the password to my old email?

How do I change my email for icloud without knowing the password for my old email address?

David, I have a similar issue but I am still running into a road block. I have had an account with apple for email since before 2005 and it was perfect for that moment in life. I used my name to set up as my appleID. [email protected] It has now since been year and years later. I am married and have my own business. I would like my new apple email to be nonnaiandd.icloud.com. When going to set up a new apple ID as you suggested. It asks for a valid email address as the apple ID. Well, my valid email address is my icloud account ([email protected]) This email is what would be my primary email in the account. I want a new apple ID and new email. How do I proceed? When I do a new apple Id is still needs an email.. I'm frustrated. What to do. I wish I could simply change my account's apple ID and email to match to the new [email protected] Help. Thank you.

  • HT204053 Now I've got it totally screwed up.  I have one address for iCloud and another for iTunes.  I would rather have only 1 but can't make the forms fill out correctly to do that.  What now?

I've just bought my iPhone and have had an iTunes account for some time.  While setting up the iPhone - Apple ID - the form would not allow me to use my currect primary email address.  I had to insert another one because of the iTunes email address apparently.  Now I can't seem to get it straightened out.  I need my primary email address to be the only one and use a secondary address for the "rescue" address. How can I manage this without making everything worse?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to use the original Apple ID you used for iTunes with iTunes and iCloud on your new device. What problems did you encounter when you tried to do this.

  • Moving MobileMe address to icloud now

My grandmother never moved her mobileme email address to icloud. We are no longer able to access it and there doesn't appear to be an option to move it over any longer. I called apple directly and the person who answered the phone refused to even transfer me to a department to discuss the problem. Is her email address gone or can it still be recovered?
Btw, I went to icloud.com, entered her email address, and went through the recovery process but it did not work. For the birthdate verification it says the date is wrong (obviously it's not) and for the option to send a password reset to another address nothing ever happens.
    So I'm stumped. Advice?

As the MobileMe account was not migrated it has been deleted, including the entire contents of the iDisk and the emails: these are not recoverable by any means.
You can reactivate the email address (but not its previous contents) by going to System Preferences>iCloud on a compliant Mac (Lion 10.7.2 or above) or an iOS5/6 device and signing in with the address, then activating Mail.

  • Email addresses for iCloud

I changed my email address for the iMac cos of security issues with hotmail and now cannot log in to iCloud so I created another iCloud address and now I appear to have 2 and I cannot get rid of the original one with hotmail

Each iCloud account only has a single iCloud email account.  You can create up to 3 alias addresses within the account, but they will all receive email in the same inbox.
If you want each person to have their own email account (inbox), and still be able to access the other iCloud data in your main account, you would need to create "secondary" iCloud accounts on each person's device.  You can do this by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with a different Apple ID.  Secondary accounts can be used for Mail, Notes, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders.  If you only want to add a new mail account, you can just turn Mail to On in the secondary account.  The only drawback to this approach is that secondary iCloud email accounts only support fetch email, not push.  Push mail is only supported in the primary account.

  • Create .me address for iCloud? I already have one. Please help.

In Mountain Lion, I log into iCloud preferences using my Apple ID. (which is my gmail address.)
The preference boxes to sync notes and mail are unchecked. When I check them I'm asked to CREATE a .me address.
I already have a .me address that I use every day (I did move it to iCloud successfully). But it won't accept my longtime .me address when I enter it there. It tells me my address is already taken and asks me to create a new .me address for syncing mail and notes.
How do I just use my EXISTING .me address and get past it asking me to create one that can then never be changed?

    Pomme,
I think he meant I'd need to create a new .me email address, or use my existing .me address. I ended up using my existing .me address because I moved it from Obie me to iCloud when you were allowed to do that. I used this for iCloud syncing instead of the applie I'd that I'm locked into, which is my gmail address.
    So I think what he
Suggesting is that you create a new .me address. I believe you can do that in iCloud email now.
