4months back i bought an iphone 4 but i learnt that it is a duplicate from china. what to do.
So sorry to hear. There's nothing we can do here. You need to be diligent.
Go to an real Apple Store and buy a genuine iPhone 4 or better iPhone 4S.

If that is the case, press home button to be sure you are on the home screen, look for this icon
and tap onto it. You should hopefully see this same icon in the list again.
tap onto that. then swipe up so that you are at the bottom of that screen, it should be this screen but in chinese
The last 'bubble' is the Reset, right above it should be Accessibility in chinese and then 'International' in chinese.
Tap onto the 'international'
The next screen, again in chinese will have 'Language' as the top most button.
tap that and if you see a list of languages, you are home free.... -

I bought an iphone 4 in the Apple Store in Shanghai, and it has a bug! I changed the regional settings to my native language, but the search in safari goes site the Google.cn.
What should I do? On this particular no one says. This is clearly a bug!
Also in my phone no youtube. I know that youtube banned in China, but I'm not in China now!
Why do not you strapped local restrictions on the location of the phone??eh...
The reason I bought the iphone in China - the price is reduced by 50% сompared to the price in Russia.

i bought a iphone off of ebay and it was a wierd version of the iphone. It had buttons at the botton and a touch screen. Can anyone tell me what kind of phone this was. All the writing on the box looks like chinese...

<Edited by Host>I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

I have an factory unlocked iPhone 4, which I received as a gift from my father who bought it to me from China. Currently I use it in the UK, but I cannot set the default search engine to google.co.uk. Instead it searches using google.cn which doesn't even appear to exist.
Furthermore, once I reset my iPhone, I see iTunes app in my iPhone but as soon as I connect my phone to iTunes in my computer, the iTunes app dissappears.
I'm not Chinese and I have never even been to China. Is there anyway I can correct these problems? I'd like to use my iPhone as anyone else in UK would. Thought iOS 5.1 update would fix things but it only added the Voice Memos app which was even missing before. I've not jail broken or anything, but is that the only way to go?

Cheers!Yep. The Chinese government requires Apple (and other vendors of smartphones) to put hardware restrictions on the web sites the iPhone can access as well as other limitations. There's no way around these limitations. So you may wish to sell the iPhone to someone in China and buy one there in the UK, or at least in a country that doesn't have such draconian laws on Internet access.
I don't know about the iTunes app and if that's included in the block; check the Restrictions in the General preferences and see if it's turned off there.

I've been reading many people's posts about their iPhone shipping from China. Mine is shipping from Kentucky. Apple is an American company, so how does that work?
Apple uses subcontracted factories (such as Foxconn) in China to manufacture the products. I don't think it pays "China" anything per se.

Buy it from an Apple Retail Store or Apple Online or through an approved Carrier.

If you want a phone that will work in China from the US, then you will not be able to buy one on launch day because you need an unlocked phone and unlocked phones will not be on sale on launch day and probably will not be available for at least a couple of months afterwards.
Frequency differences between USA and China probably mean that if you buy in the US you will not get 4G in China and you will also have no warranty on the phone in China if you buy in the US - iPhone warranty is not international.
If you want an iPhone that will work in China, then buy it in China. -
Last year I brought from China (I am in Australia) an IPhone 3GS with operating system of 4.1 This IPhone came brand new in box etc. I want to update the operating system because a lot of the apps need newer software, however It will not work properly or update. Why?

Well, is your friend's phone officially unlocked? If so, get a sim from any T-Mobile store. If not officially unlocked, did your friend get International Provisioning activated for their account...pick a plan & such BEFORE your friend left China?

I am from Canada and have the Unlocked iPhone 4 and the phone is on LTE network, when I bought Apple Care + warranty I was told if I had problems I can get it fixed or replaced in Hong Kong. I was told the wrong thing.
I was at the Apple store in Causeway Bay, one of the Store TL from Toronto works there now, told me China/HK iPhone runs on a CDMA network and therefore cannot replace or exchange my phone for me. Their phones doesn't have LTE network.. That might be a problem for you in India. Every country's network is different and I think it's a case of miscommunications.
The iPhone 4 comes with your basic 1yr warranty, unless you purchased extended warranty for another 2 yrs which might have coverage at India. The best is to contact or email: Apple Warranty in the USA. They're awesome. They reply you back quickly & very informative.
