  • Sending mail from an Apple alias?

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3GS and am trying to figure out how to send mail from an Apple alias. It only let's me send it from my Apple ID account (which I made when I was 11 or so and is really immature, haha) and not the alias that I use to send mail from when I'm on my Mac.
Is there a way to do it? I read that one person created a separate inbox with their alias, but it doesn't accept mine since I don't use it to log in (it has no password). I did try to use my Apple ID password, but that doesn't work either.
    Thanks so much!
    Caleb

If all you are looking to do is send an email from a different "from" account (aliased email), just simply put that email account in the Address field separated by a comma. It works almost identical to Mail on OSX. It will then take whatever account you have setup with the primary and add that as an email aliased from account. You then send (or reply) to your email select which "from" address you would like to use and you should be set. Hope this helps.

My question is similar:  I deleted email folders in my mail app on iPhone 4 and it deleted the folders on all my other devices--literally THOUSANDS of emails!  I went to iCloud to recover them and can't find them.  HELP PLEASE!

  • How can i permanently delete my Apple iCloud E-Mail from my Apple Account?

I Have one Apple ID Account and bascily i want to delete my Apple iCloud E-Mail address permanently from my apple ID account.

I don't think you can delete it from your ID but you don't have to use it.  Just go to Settings>iCloud and turn Mail off to remove the account from your phone.

  • Mail app on Tiger and Leopard no longer bring in mail from non-apple servers

My husband's computers use Tiger and Leopard (10.5.8) to access his email on the Mail program.  His mail is from Comcast and uses the Comcast server, not apple or iCloud.  His mail suddenly stopped working a couple of days ago.....as it did on one of my machines that still uses Tiger.  He had not done any updates that could have broken the software.  He does not have iCloud except on his phone and he doesn't even have a .mac address.  There is no reason for the comcast server to not be able to be accessed by Mail app.
He did finally update everything that needed it and it still does not work.  Why would Apple's change over to iCloud break email access from other servers and how can we fix it.  He really doesn't want to do his mail on Comcast's web site as it's slow and awkward.
Thanks for any help you all can offer.
    Paula

    Thank you for answering.
I know it shouldn't have been able to stop those accounts from working on the Mail app but it did.Out of 4 machines, 3 stopped working at the same time.  The 4th is on Snow Leopard and continues to get my Comcast mail.  But the one Tiger machine and 2 Leopard machines no longer access any mail from any server.  Shouldn't be possible, but it happened.
I don't want to delete accounts because I don't want to lose the old email in the different folders on there and the software is acting so bizarrely, I know the mail would be lost.
I checked all the settings and compared them to the one on Snow Leopard that still works.  The settings are all the same.  The only difference is the OS.
And to make things more frustrating, I found that several entries in my Contacts book were either deleted or scrambled with phone numbers for person A in the entry for say, person C.  I mean it's a real mess and this all happened after I got a notice from Apple that they were shutting down all their mobile me stuff and sending everything to iCloud.  Syncing is obviously a mess now and I don't even want my stuff sync'd there.  My husband has never even signed up for iCloud but since he has an iTunes account, thus an Apple acct, they appear to have automatically put him on iCloud too.  And....mail quit working unless he gets it on his iPad or iPhone.
We're fed up with Apple's insistence on total control of it's customers' previously working equipment.  We have no desire to upgrade to Lion or it's next iteration. We have been happy with what we have and asked only that it continue to just WORK.
It's become a rotten Apple in the past few years.  We've been with them a long time but  we're watching other companies closely for something that will do what we need without the draconian control.
I have a feeling the only way to "fix" Mail.app is to upgrade to Lion and we won't be doing that.
    Thanks again.

  • TS3276 can't download mail from windows live account.  I have deleted and re-set up the account but still won't work.  I can go online and access with no problem or get mail from other apple devices.

Not able to get mail from windows live account.

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
    (1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
    (2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
    Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.
''Edit: I suggest just doing #1.''

I am having problems with my yahoo mail with iPhone when ever I try to access it from 3 days I am having trouble. I get an error tht my user or password must be wrong and tht I cannot acces my mail. Even though I type and use the correct password and Id I tried deleting the account and creating it again but it didn't help..

The default way it used to work (before Mission Control) was that when a display went missing, all the Application windows on the missing display were moved toward the center of the remaining desktop, so that at least some portion of each window was visible on the main display. Then you could drag them where you liked.
If you have worked hard to configure Mission Control to give each display a separate space, and put all the Windows stuff in a space on the now-missing display, you will have to change settings in Mission Control to get the contents of that space back on the main display.

It would help if you identified who your email provider is.
Check that the parameters you set up is Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars for this account are correct per what your Mail service recommends.
Check the support for your email provider for assistance, FAQs, etc.

  • Why is Earthlink blocking Email from my Apple iCloud Account?

There is no section for Apple Mail, so posting here.
Anyone else noticing that Earthlink isn't accepting mail from the Apple SMTP servers?
    Getting the following mesage:
smtp;550 IP 17.158.236.236 is blocked by EarthLink.

It is more than likely a phishing scam to trick you to submit personal information .
If you clicked on anything in the email and submitted any information, I strongly suggest you log into your Apple ID account and change your passwords.
If you did nothing, good, and delete the email.

Re: Mail virus and Trojan issues
21-Jan-2013 14:58 (in response to Memoire)
    Hi please help.
I have a iPad 2 , not jail broken, just 2 months old fresh from the apple store. Recently I have been directed to **** sites or a fake bad oink **** application, through various applications. From google chrome app, the photon app and safari.
I always delete cookies and cache on exit. I use photon and puffin to watch flash player videos on tv series site with links such as put locker. I heard that there is no virus for the iPad but Trojans do exist.
Pleae help, at first this was just happening with photon app now in 3 different apps, and it is directing me always to the same **** site. I don't watch **** so it's. it from cookies or whatever and my iPad has been randomly turning off and also the videos are working really badly now. Also there is a message red alert staying untrusted site and hacker may be intercepting your device. What is going on? Please help
Is their a new redirecting Trojan or virus for iPad 2. ? If yes how can I remove it and will it cause permanent damage to my device? How could I have got this virus and in 3 apps. I'm also, worried as I use my iPad to buy things online etc with my credit card. What shall I do?.. Do I restore my device? How do I do that as I cannot connect to iTunes as I do not have a computer, just my iPad. Any help appreciated thanks.

They broke a story on sept 4, 2012 titled "apple's iOS, the new favorite malware victims"
Despite the dramatic title of the article, the only mention of iOS in the body was this:
Even though malware is increasing in iOS, it still remains relatively low compared with other operating systems.
And, it provides no examples or other documentation. And, unlike you, I don't consider CNET "the most legit tech site on the internet". I find them to be generally biased in their reiviews and heavily influenced by advertisers.
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2012/06/26/yes-apples-machines-really-ca n-get-viruses
The Forbes article descibes issues with the Mac OS, of which there always have been some, though certainly far fewer than there have been on the Windows platform. It goes on to speculate :
All those iPads, iPods and iPhones? Is this going to be a juicy enough target for the virus and trojan writers to at least attempt to attack, even given the difficulty of doing so?
Again, the Forbes article doesn't mention any current viruses, trojans or malware that exist which will affect an unjailbroken iOS device.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/15/iphone-malware-kaspersky_n_1515074.html
And, the HuffPo article quotes Grebennikov thusly:
"Our experience tells us that in the near future, perhaps in a year or so, we will see the first malware targeting iOS," Nikolai Grebennikov, Kaspersky's chief technology officer, told Computing.
Again, even Kaspersky doesn't say such things exist now, merely that they might.
Speculation about what might happen in the future or articles focusing on the Mac OS or Android are not terribly relevant. So, if you do have any other citiations, preferably from a source that doesn't derive most of is revenue from the companies it reviews, that document a virus or trojan that affects an unjailbroken iOS device, I would be interested. I have not been able to find any. I thought, perhaps, as a professional, you might know of some.
    Thank you.

  • Apple Mail "From:" Field Customization

I have several IMAP accounts in Apple Mail. One of them is a Gmail account that I use as a conduit account for work, so when I reply to messages or compose new mail, I would like it to display a specific address in the "From:" field, instead of selecting it every time (I added my work account to Mail as well, though I forward messages to my Gmail account). So, for example, my Gmail account is "[email protected]" and my work email is "[email protected]".
When I compose messages from the Gmail account I would like the "From:" field to display "[email protected]" instead of "[email protected]". I am able to set up Gmail web interface to do this, but have not been able to set up Apple Mail to do the same (aside from instructing it to send messages using my work server, instead of the Gmail server).
In Lion, Mail was able to specify that address if I was replying to a messages sent to "[email protected]" but would show "[email protected]" for every new message. In ML, even replying to a message sent to "[email protected]" shows "[email protected]" in the "From:" field.
Does anyone know how to instruct Mail to choose only "[email protected]" when replying or composing new messages?
    Thanks for your help!

What you are describing is what is known as "articulation work". To quote Suchman, "'Articulation work' names the continuous efforts required in order to bring together discontinuous elements - of organizations, of professional practices, of technologies - into working configurations". That makes it sound better than it is.
Ideally, your non-profit needs a decent webhost like Dreamhost that can transparently integrate with Google Mail and make the whole problem go away.
    asmystiq wrote:
I configured Mail to use the work SMTP server to send messages from the Gmail account.
This is what is known as e-mail spoofing.
In the web Gmail interface, everything works smoothly.
Yes. Google is known for ignoring laws and facilitating any kind of network traffic, legitimate or not, in order to track activity and build value for its advertising business.
In Mail, even if the message was sent to [email protected], Mail replies show up with [email protected] in the "From:" field
Yes. That is the way it is supposed to work.
I also set up a rule for redirecting Sent messages to Gmail and moving the original copies to Trash on the work account. In Lion, all was well and the replies indicated [email protected] in the "From:" field and when I manually applied the rule to the Sent messages, they were sent to the Gmail account.
That's the "articulation work" in action.
I've looked at some of the discussion you linked (thank you for that) and found it enlighening, though I am not done reading all of it yet.
There are a number of different issues going on. Modern e-mail is extraordinarily complicated.
What I do now is not forward work email and keep the daily workflow focused on the Inbox of the [email protected] account, which handles replies appropriately. I then set up a rule to redirect any mail from the work account that is over a day old to the Gmail account. I then organize it on the web interface (which is not optimal, but cuts down my time spent on the web interface from "always" to once daily or so).
You could probably improve that by creating folders in GMail from within Apple Mail. Once you move an old message from the work server to GMail where you have more room, you can have additional rules to move it around within GMail.
The only real, definitive solution is to have more room for e-mail. You should contact your system administrator and suggest switching to GMail or Microsoft's version. Everyone hates dealing with e-mail. That is why these transparent e-mail services are so popular. Once it gets setup, all the magic happens in the name servers and all anyone ever sees is "work.org". Plus, you will likely gain some additional functionality that Microsoft Exchange supports that older systems do not.
In the interim, the best solution is to show the "Reply-to:" field and put your "[email protected]" address in there. Replies will be directed to that address but you will still have to move everything around after receipt. You should be able to configure your "work.org" e-mail system to automatically forward all you rmail to the GMail account. Combined with "Reply-to:", that is about as good as it is going to get.
If you need more clarification, let me know. Though I think that ML is behaving in a way that is not convenient and I don't see a way to create a hack to fix it. It seems like it would be an easy feature to add, but who knows what Apple folks are thinking...
What you have described is e-mail spoofing and Apple doesn't support that. No legitimate internet e-mail provider should support it. If Google does, then that is Google's problem. Most other e-mail servers would not allow that and that is why Apple doesn't support it. And, in general, Apple software is simply not very amenable to "hacks".
I have though about writing an Apple Mail plugin to automatically add a "Reply-to:" to certain e-mail messages. It will be a few months before I get time for that, so don't hold your breath.

The subscription will renew automatically (unless you have disabled that) and you will get an email approximately one month before renewal.
