Fake still images to look like video

Hi.
I'm adding some still images to a project. And they look rather dull. I don't want to move them arround, instead I had the idea to add a grain effect to make them look like video. I can't find any effect to do this in FCP 5.1. Any ideas?

[CGM Aged Film|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/cgmagedfilmle_eiperlecgmtv.htm l] has a grain control, just turn off the dirt, hairs and tint controls.
You could also mix in a tiny amount of noise: Effects > Generators > Render > Noise.

You can apply opacity to images or define key position for slideshow so that with page scroll the opacity changes and will bring the similar effect.

You can try putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, you can see if the computer will recognize it when connected, either in iTunes or by the system.
NOTE:  You can also try putting it into Disk Mode WHILE it is already connected to the computer.
If the iPod is recognized, you may be able to use one of the third-party methods or utilities to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  You can do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer" to get some links (add "mac" to the search if your computer is a Mac).
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library, then sync it to the new iPod.

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

  • Still Image Slideshow Looks Awful... Export Setting?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to export a video that's basically 1 minute of high res images (taken on a Nikon D800 & D90) that fade from one to the next every 3 seconds, and a piece of music plays behind it.
I don't care what the final file size ends up being. I just need to export this video and have it look perfect. On my computer monitor however, so far in about a dozen combinations of file format / preset, they look completely pixelated and awful. The best I've gotten so far was an Mp4 (forget the exact preset I used, but I'm sure I could figure it out), but even that doesn't even look close to perfect on my computer monitor, and I'm sure once it's displayd big on a big widescreen TV it will look even worse. If I just display the images they look great (they're really high res after all), so it's obviously something with the various export settings...
Can anyone provide any help / insight into what good settings would be for a project like this? Again, file size doesn't matter at all. Not trying to save space. I just want this slideshow to look as good as if I was just flipping through a bunch of images on the computer in a image viewer...
    Thanks

Before you nominate Jim for sainthood I have a quick story to tell.
I just now put some pictures into Premiere Pro that were 4608X3072 and I dropped them on a sequence of the same frame size (by dropping them on the "New Item" button). Then I dropped that sequence on a 1920X1080 sequence and used motion to scale them down. I then exported to my usual 1080p YouTube settings and the pictures are as sharp in the video as they are in Bridge.
I used a DSLR preset for my project, and the new 1080p sequence uses I-Frame only MPEG for previews.
i am not saying to not do it Jim's way. In fact, if you do not plan on panning around your images, using Photoshop to scale the images is the fastest and easiest way.
However, it is not really necessary to scale them all the way down, and if you are panning, then certainly they need to be closer to full size.
Now, your camera shoots 7360X4912, a lot bigger than my little sensor can shoot, so you might want to resize to 50% or even 60% of the original size if you want to pan. Just know you don't have to go all the way to an HD frame size.
Also, I don't doubt that the AVC-Intra setting works great, but my DSLR setting does not cause me any problems.
Just to give you something to think about.

  • How do I play a video on a still image - for example - a video playing on a TV screen in a still living room image?

    Hi All,
I am just starting to work with video and image and have a question - probably something quite easy but I can't seem to find any tutorials to show me how.
Basically I want to have a video playing on a still image - for example a tv screen in a living room.
I am currently struggling to find out how to resize the video to the exact angle of the screen. I can get it playing but at the dimensions of the original video but can't seem to find out how to adjust the video to be sized at the angle the tv is sat at?
    Any help would be appreciated.

An Opacity Mask plus Corner Pin is what I would use.
I like when an "insert" comes from behind the matte... and also ....this way allows feathering of the edges.

  • Image files look like a garbled mess of fragments of other files

Ever since I updated to the latest version of Photoshop, images have occasionally opened looking like this:
The garbled mosaic here is composed of previously opened images. Any idea what's going on?
This is on a Mac running Yosemite and Photoshop CC 2014.

I think Chris Cox (part of Adobe staff) mentioned this was something to do with a video driver bug on Yosemite.

  • HELP - after publishing to Media Browser, still images do not match video

OK - here's what I'm trying to do:
I've got my family's video on an external HD (1TB) hooked up to my (new) imac. I'e created a rough cut project (1.5 hours). I'm trying to transfer it to my (new macbook) laptop so I can work on it when I'm travelling.
I've published the project to the media browser and transfered it to the other compuer. However, the still images in the project library window do not match the video, which makes it hard to edit. When I go back to my imac and disconnect the hard drive, the same thing happens. When I reconnect the hard drive, the video stills in the project library window match the video.
    Any fixes?

For DVDs, share to Media Browser - Large. You are correct that DVDs cannot handle HD and would cut it down to 640x480 anyway. The Large size (960x540) seems to provide the right balance of quality and enough material for the compression to MPEG2 to sink its teeth into.
No need for HD size unless you are sharing to BluRay, Sharing to YouTiube, watching on a device like the Sony PS3, or watching on your computer.

  • Compress many "still images" into a quicktime video file....possible????

Is it possible to take hundreds of "still frames" (like jpegs or tiffs) into Compressor and export them as a quicktime movie(I know I need 30 pics for every second using 29.97)? If so how? Thanks

    Christopher..
Was doing this in ImageReady, followed all the steps to save the file (with all the time lapse images) as a quicktime movie file.
And when I open the saved quick time movie file it only saves one image as a .mov quicktime file and not the rest of the images?
Looked through a few notes, retried and couldn't figure it out?
    Marion..
FCP.. I have no idea where to begin in learning how to import .jpg (timelapse) images into FCP let alone piece it into a small film.
All the images are ready to be converted into a movie file..just don't know where to start.
any leads would be greatly welcomed!     ~A~

  • What kind of monitor is best for judging what the printed image will look like?

I am working on a 300+ page book that contains a lot of photos that I have converted from color to grayscale in photoshop. I am using a laptop computer and I cannot judge the quality of the photos on this laptop monitor. What is the best monitor for gauging what the finished product will look like? It is a hardcover book that will be offset printed. I do not know if this particular printer uses computer-to-plate technology or if it is "old style." Thanks!

A good one...like for example this:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?N=11083422&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi
You need to set your calibration parameters very carefully. Eizo ColorNavigator (and NEC Spectraview) are the only calibrators that give you full control of the calibration parameters, because they communicate directly with the monitor. Hence my recommendation of the CS240, which is the least expensive model in this market segment. Excellent value for money.
Set the white point so that it is a visual equivalent to paper white, both in luminance and color. A little experimenting is necessary. Start around 100 cd/m² and 6300K, and adjust as needed. Ambient light affects your perception, which is why no fixed numbers can be given.
Even more important: set a realistic black point. Monitor manufacturers love to boast huge contrast ranges, like 1000:1 and so on. Impressive on paper, but in reality there's no way you'll get those deep blacks in print. Especially not offset print.
My starting point for offset is 0.5 cd/m², but often that turns out to be too low and I end up with 0.6 or even 0.7. This depends a lot on the paper stock.
Next, ask the printer what CMYK profile is used for the actual process. Here in Europe, that's most likely ISO Coated v2 300% (eci) or Coated FOGRA39, in other parts of the world it will be something else. Use Photoshop to soft proof to this profile. Again, the Eizo is wide gamut and covers ISO Coated almost 100%. A standard gamut monitor will be a lot less useful for soft proofing.
With a little experience and effort, you can get close to 100% reliable prediction on screen.

  • Effect that looks like video being smashed?

I have a piece of video that is full screen at 720x480 and the client wants a person's foot to come in from the top and smash or crunch the video down to expose just the foot (smash the competition -get it?). Would this be possible in either FCP or Motion? I'm thinking some kind of wipe effect or jagged wipe effect. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John Schenkel

i'd look into motion on this one. FCP can do wipes and garbage and stuff like that but that is ultimately 'cropping' the video if you will and not distorting it. check your motion manual and look up effects. Distort, corner pin, things like that. the manuals are easy to read. if you are still having trouble check the motion forums. good luck

  • Yahoo webcam image preview looks like RGB 555 instead of RGB 24

I have a PC-CAM 550 that has a great video image using the PC Cam Center software. When using webcam in yahoo the video looks poor like I have the camera set in RGB 555 instead of RGB 24. I used the "Vidcap32" program and it shows RGB 24 with great quality. This only seems to be related to yahoo webcam.
Could this be related to "super webcam" mode in yahoo?
Does the quality change in super webcam mode as well as the fps?
    Thanks for any replies.

I've noticed that lsmod | grep agp gives me this output:
