Fake WLAN Connection Timeout messages with Mini + Airport

I have seen this to be a common problem both in these forums and on the internet. I have also seen this hasn't been commented at all by Apple, which makes it all the more frustrating.
Something happens with some Airport configurations (I'm getting it on an Intel Mac Mini) where Airport just stops working.
The problem is that the Mini won't connect to any WLAN, no matter the authentication method nor signal. It will always give a "timeout" error when trying. Will always ask for the passphrase/key again.
As I said, it's EMBARRASSING that Apple doesn't acknowledge or provide workarounds for these issues. This is the second problem I find today which is publicly known and for which Apple hasn't said a thing (the other is that sometimes iTunes will stop recognizing iPhones/iPod Touches in Windows hardware if other USB devices are connected and/or the WLAN is active, ridiculous and a workaround found by users, but never acknowledged by Apple).
I've seen the rest of the threads, so to preemptively save everyone the time to suggest things I know are not the issue:
-No Time Capsules are involved.
-No Airport Extreme is involved.
-No Airport Base Stations are involved.
-No software/firmware updates are pending.
-No problems exist on the router. Windows PCs, iMacs, Linksys WET11 bridges, iphones and ipod touches connecter perfectly.
-Tried WPA, WEP and Open WLAN. I don't need to know why WEP is worse than WPA. I know all about it and it's not the issue.
-Resetting the PRAM and deleting the SystemConfiguration folder didn't do squat.
-The problem is with all WLANs, not just mine. The router is irrelevant. It can't connect to any of the 4 currently available.

I have a similar problem. Though I couldn't get my Mac Mini (just got it 2 weeks ago) to ever connect through AirPort. My router (LinkSys) is in the same room as the mini. Sometimes mini can't even see my network but it does see a couple of other WLANs in my proximity.
I have no problems finding and connecting with my black MacBook and my girlfriends HP Pavilion.

I am getting a "connection timeout" message when trying to access my Airport Extreme with various laptops, Play Station 3 and Wii. My Airport Extreme is about a month old; it was working fine until about a week ago. Suddenly, the "timeout" is not allowing me to connect to my wireless network.

It could be that there's a new source of interference.
Use the advice in the second message of this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that each client sees:

  • I have lost my wifi network.  Get connection timeout message???

I suddenly lost my Airport wifi in my house.  I get a "connection timeout" message.  I am able to use my ATT Uverse modem and had a second network going with my apple airport extreme and airport express.  Suddenly that network is gone.  I have reset all the modems and the aiport express shows up in the airport utility although on the ATT network.  Any help???

Probably restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds would have solved your problem.

  • "Connection Timeout" Message

Every time I try to connect to my Belkin wireless router, I keep getting a "Connection Timeout" message. I still can't connect to the internet through the wireless function. What should I do, and what does the "Connection Timeout" message imply.

Your computer tried to connect to your wireless router; but the router stopped responding, as such your computer could not establish a connection. Usually this issue is caused by interference from other wireless network and or noise electronic device (microwave, refrigerators). For instance a nabor may have recently added their own wireless network witch interfering with yours.
Or you may be simply be too far away from the router for the computer to talk clearly to each other.
This issue could also be cause by settings or typing in the incorrect password for the wireless router.
    Things you could try:
un-plug and plugging back in the wireless router. rebooting your router give it a chance to refresh it self. Many router will also change their channel when rebooting; witch could help with an interference issue.
Moving your computer closer to the wireless router. Even if you don't want to be that close to the wireless router; being able to connect at all would help to better understand the issue.
have you always had this issue? or is this a new issue?

  • Satellite A100-003 WLAN connection timeout(with WPA-PSK)

I have a Satellite A100-003 notebook with preinstalled Windows Vista.
When I try connect to my router with WPA-PSK (TKIP) I have error:
Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout.
My notebook and router configurated correctly!! I installed new intel drivers for 3945ABG chip.
    WPA2-PSK and WEP work fine.

    Hi
The same happened on my old notebook.
I was not able to establish the WLan connection for longer than 1min with WPA encryption.
I have downloaded the newest Atheros driver and updated everything.
Everything works fine with WEP but not WPA.
Then I have disabled the Windows own configuration option and use the Atheros client utility. Now everything works fine!
I would recommend using the Intel Proset utility and check all possible settings!

  • MacBook Pro connection timeout message for personal hotspot but works on iPad. Any suggestions?, MacBook Pro connection timeout message for personal hotspot but works on iPad. Any suggestions?

I am having issues with my personal hotspot. I can connect an iPAD to it but the MacBook Pro gives a connection timeout error. Sometimes it asks for a password but when I type in the correct one it doesn't recognise it. Any suggestions? My software is up to date and I have deleted the password in key chain but this doesn't seem to help. I am a bit technically challenged so simple language please. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Fixed!
Two things together have restored connectivity.
    1.  I changed the name under Settings > General > About > Name from My Name's iPad to iPad of My Name.  I read somewhere that iOS 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 (I forget which) sometimes had issues with apostrophes here.  Easy enough to test.
    2.  I then reset (again) the APN settings under Settings > Cellular Data > APN Settings > Personal Hotspot and reentered our provider's info (APN, Username, Password) there.
I don't know WHY it worked, but the personal hotspot is now happily sharing (again) internet connectivity with my MacBook Pro.

  • Connection timeout issues with Time Capsule

I have a first generation 500 GB Time Capsule, with AT&T Uverse internet service.  The device worked fine up until 3 weeks ago, at which time I received a "connection timeout" error when trying to connect from any of the computers in the house.  At that time, the computers were showing that the wireless network was available, but I was just unable to connect.  I could connect to the device using the ethernet connection, and the wired computer would still successfully backup.
I restarted the Time Capsule, and everything immediately returned to normal.  Everything worked fine for about a week, and then the problem occurred again.  The issue has been occurring more and more frequently, to the point that it now is only working for several hours before requiring a reset.
Has anybody experienced anything similar to this?  Any thoughts on a solution to this?

Hi I had similar problems. I moved houses got my own cable modem and tried to use the TC as my wireless, as i had it in my other home. The connection would drop constantly and i was unable to use the TC as a wireless device, it would also freeze my computer (mac book Pro). After asking everyone for help i found that when i moved the TC next to the cable modem in the garage it all worked. Apparently the ethernet cable that ran from the garage to the living room was only using 4 of the 8 pins and thus was dropping the connection. i am now connected directly from the modem to the tc and it has not failed yet (cross my fingers). After all this was suppose to be wireless and thus i don't need to have it right next to my computer. The signal is strong and it has not caused any problems. I didn't mess with the settings after i did a hard reset on the TC. So far so good. hopes this helps.

  • Wlan connection interrupts 1-2 min - Satellite P300D-21K

    Hi,
    I have a satelite laptop. P300D-21K.
My wireless connection seems to get interupted every 1-2 mins. I can tell this becasue when I am streaming shows off BBC iplayer, or youtube, you can see that the buffering stops and the audio/video will then stop. I have to kick start it myslef by hitting pause then play to get it to going again.
I do not have this problem when I use my wired network, so I believe this is a problem with the wireless feature of my laptop.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Ross.

    Hello Ross,
I have a P300D 15C laptop and I do recognize the random disconnection of the WLAN under Vista. It's very annoying.
After BIOS-update en Atheros-drivers the problem still exists.
    Did you solve that problem?
If YES.. please will you post your solution here?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Issues Connecting to internet with new Airport Express

    Running a Macbook pro 15" - 10.4.11
I just bought a brand new Airport Express a few days ago. I just recently got my internet service through Comcast restored and am eager to get a wireless network up so I can play Xbox Live again.
So issue is this: I plug the ethernet cable from the Cable modem into the airport, the light goes green. The computer is registering a strong signal, Network preferences says Airport is connected to my network. However, Safari keeps saying its not connected to the internet. When i run system diagnostics, I get a green light on Airport, Network settings, system settings, and ISP. But the light on Internet and Server stay red, and Diagnostics says it can't fix the problem and I need to contact my ISP. Comcast said they couldn't help, my connection was fine and they even refreshed it to no avail. When I plug my Ethernet cable directly into my Macbook pro, I get on the 'net no problem. I'm dumbfounded.
I'd appreciate any sage wisdom offered. Thanks!
p.s: Also, when I run a connection test on Xbox 360, it picks up my network, connects quickly, ISP confirms, but ultimately fails at DNS Server. Hmm.

bl4ckr4bbit, Welcome to the discussion area!
Most cable modems require that you power them off when you switch the Ethernet connection from one device to another. Until you reset the modem it will not communicate with the new device. When the modem is powered on it detects the new device and starts talking to it.
Some cable modems have a reset button on the back for this reset.
Some cable modems have a small internal battery which must be removed for this reset to occur.
Sometimes the cable modems must be unplugged several hours or even overnight to allow equipment back at the ISP to reset.
Did you power off the cable modem when switching the Ethernet connection?

  • Connect MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort to TV?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with the Mini DisplayPort outlet. I used to have a PowerBook which I was able to connect to my TV via the video adapter. No such adapter is included with my MacBook. How can I connect it to my TV to view videos, movies, tv shows, etcetera?

You only need a cable from MBP to Display, i.e. Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-30-30-gold-plated-mini-displayport-male-to-hdmi-m ale-6-feet-cable.aspx
    It's only $9.95.
But you know, until now Mini DisplayPort can not output audio but only video. As far as I know Cable Matters Inc. has solution for audio output. If you want high audio quality Mini Displayport Male and Toslink Audio/USB Male to HDMI Female Adapter is good for you since it supports 5.1 Channel audio.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is $47.95, a little expensive. You will need another HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to the TV/Screen.
If you don't require high quality audio this is an alternative Mini DisplayPort Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Adapter.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-24-32-mini-displayport-male-and-usb-male-audio-to -hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is cheaper for $37.49. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to your TV/Screen.

  • Connecting Cinema Display with mini display port to macbook pro with thunderbolt port

I am trying to connect a 27" cinema display (2010) that has a mini display port cable out of the back, into my macbook pro (2013) with thunderbolt ports.  The mini display port cord fits into the thunderbolt port on the Macbook Pro, however the macbook pro does not detect the cinema display and the cinema display does not have any picture on the screen.  The USB plugs in fine and sound comes out, and I have the adapter for the magsafe to magsafe 2 and that works fine, it just the actual display.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hello mmholt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s no video on an Apple Cinema Display that’s connected to your MacBook Pro, and you’re wondering if the configuration is supported. It is supported, take a look at the article linked below for more information.

  • Help! Syncmaster 1100 blurry when connected to Imac with Mini DVI to Vga

    Hi,
I recently tried to use my Samsung SyncMaster 1100 (21") as a secondary display But when I connect it with the mini dvi to vga adapter to my imac the image looks blurry. Is there some compatibility isue with syncmaster 1100?
Please Help!, I tryed the imac with a different secondary monitor and it works fine. I tested my syncmaster with another pc and it works fine. I don't know what else to do.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Josh,
To start, it is considered extremely impolite to type in all capital letters as you have done. Please use all lower case, or preferably properly capitalised text, in future.
With regards to the problem you're having.. the reason you only see the desktop background is due to screen spanning. If you want the external display to display the same thing as the internal display, go to the displays system preferences pane, and check the box that says "Mirroring"
The color problem is probably due to a loose connection somewhere, either between the iMac and its adaptor, the adaptor and the cable to the projector, or between the projector and the cable plugging into it. If you're still having problems, try different adaptor cables, or try plugging it into a different monitor to try to work out which one is causing a problem.
    Good luck

  • Can't connect to router with non airport wireless

I try again... my Imac won't connect wireless to my router. It actually connects, Imac says everything is fine, but when I connect to the internet, the colourfull little wheel is spining for hours...and nothing shows up.
With the same settings, using Airport express, wired on the router, everytihng is working fine. I can't just switch to the other network.
    Any cue?

You have a non-apple wireles card in the IMAC. Why would you do that?
Sounds like your wireless card is not getting an IP adddess. Check system preferences - network and verify both the ethernet and the wireless connections are getting DIFFERENT Ip addresses. You have to go to your wireless cards website to find out how to connect it to an AEBS. Linksysy has info on their site. Also your AEBS has to be set up to distribute IP addresses, otherwise, the AEBS and the IMAC may have the same IP adress and the system won't accept that.
