Fall check?

Hi everybody - first post here.
I've been asked for help with a Sun system which is based in a different country - the onsite sys admin isn't available and my expertise is HP-UX, hence the call for help.
Someone has tried to boot the workstation but they have black text on a white background stating they need to carry out a "fall check". I suspect this has lost something in translation and is actually either full or file check, but having next to no knowledge of Sun I've reported it verbatim just in case it really is fall check.
If this were an HP system, I would tell them to boot into single-user mode and run fsck. Is that valid advice for Sun? If so, how do we boot into single-user mode?
Please note I do not know the hardware or OS level involved.
Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)

I suspect you are right and it is a full check that is being asked for. Depending on the file system type and where it is mounted (or presumably not!) you may be able to do an fsck in normal operation.

  • Check if date falls in current month

    Hi All,
How to check if a date value falls within the current month or its older than current month in a simple logic? I have to do this without using too complicated a logic..

  • I have an array in which I want to check and see if it falls within a certain range with about 7 different ranges. I have tried the range and coerce function but something is going wrong.

Also, I have a timer that lets me know how long the trigger has been active. I want to know if it is possible if that time would be reset everytime the trigger goes off.

    1. Do not run using the Continuous Run button! This is intended only for certain types of trouble shooting and not for normal operation.
    2. Put a while loop around your entire program.  Add a stop button wired to the stop terminal of the loop.
    3. Then you can replace all the feedback nodes with one shift register with the input expanded to five elements. Sum the three bottom ones for your averaging.
    4. Nothing is wrong with the In Range and Coerce.  You should only check it when you have data.  That is what the Data Available output from Trigger and Gate is for.
    5. I am not sure what you want to reset for your timer or exactly when, but it should be possible.
    6. I did not try to figure it all out but you may not need the timer while loop once you wrap the loop suggested in 2 around the rest of the code.  You may be able to move the shift registers to the outer loop.

  • Multi Plot XY Graph. One Plot Envlope, checking to make sure the other plot falls within the enclope plot

    Hi Guys
Have a problem with XY graphing, I have 5 xy samples that define an envlope (one plot), samples need to be checked to make sure they are within the selected envlope.
    Any Ideas ?

Can you split the 4 xy point for your envelope int two envelopes:
    Upper Limit 0,0 3,6 9,9
Lower Limit 3,0 9,9 (or maybe 0,0 3,0 9,9 if you need to start at x=0)
Then in your limit check connect both upper and lower envelopes.
Have a look at the attached vi, it's not very tidy and there may be a problem with the number of samples in the various arrays, it may give you some ideas to try.

  • Unable to check for purchases. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable.

Every time I go to check for purchases I receive this message. Ive been recieving it for a couple weeks now and its reallly starting to annoy me.
Based on what info I found, I tried adding different program and port exceptions to my firewall, and I toggled my virus scanner and spyware. (and I dont have an internet accelerator so thats not the cause).
So then when that failed i just turned my virus scanner and firewall completely off. Still its the same problem.
I have almost 70 downloads that are incomplete (because of an error that apple support has worked out with me), but I have no way of accessing them.
PLEASE HELP / GIVE ANY SUGGESTIONS
iTunes 7.3.0.54, Toshiba Satellite Laptop, Windows XP service pack 2
    Toshiba Satellite   Windows XP

    ya....
"I understand that you are still receiving a message about connection error when trying to download your purchases.
I have confirmed that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections. Therefore, the issue is likely related to your Internet connection, local network, or computer. I'm happy to provide some information that should help you connect to the iTunes Store again.
I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with this issue and I can imagine how frustrating this could be for you. However, the nature of your question falls outside the type of support provided via email by the iTunes Store team. The iTunes Store team answers non-technical questions about billing, customer accounts, downloading music, and iTunes Store."
Im going to send them my exact connection details and such.. but if anyone knows the solutions to this PLEASE tell. It would save a ton of time and frustration.

  • MacBook Pro takes a long time to start up or hangs at gray apple logo after minor fall

I upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when my MacBook Pro started taking a really long time to start up or restart.
Before upgrading I had some directory problems which I fixed with DiskWarrior. I then upgraded to Mavericks. There was also a fall that I took, which resulted in the MacBook Pro hitting on one corner and getting a minor dent (It was inside a padded messenger bag when I fell). It worked fine for a whole day, but the next day it started slowing down and getting stuck.
I run DiskWarrior again and there was more directory problems, which were fixed again. When I start the MacBook Pro from an external HD with Mac OS X 10.8, there is no delay in starting up. When I switch to the internal HD, then I get very long delays (5-10min) or hangs at the gray apple logo screen.
DiskUtility did not report any problems, neither did SMART report.
Could it be that the HD got somewhat damaged and gets stuck intermittently? Is it possible to start up OK some times and others to get stuck?
How can I check the HD? Shouldn't the SMART report indicate a problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my main work computer!
    Chris

I think that my Mac was shutdown when it fell, but I am not 100% sure.
I did perform both SMC and PRAM resets. I will also try to run maintenance scripts. Thanks for the suggestion.
It keeps on taking around 10min to restart now, but it has not frozen yet.
The other very strange thing that happens  (and this was the first sign I had when it started acting up) is that Mail.app cannot connect to my IMAP servers (a host provider and Google), even though my Mac connects to the internet. I have the MacBook Pro on the same ethernet network as my home iMac, and I get mail without a problem on the iMac! So something is blocking the mail on the MacBook Pro.
This happened for the first time on Friday and after that I kept having the long delays in startup or freezes I mentioned before.
    Could those two be connected?
When I use an external HD as as start up I can get mail fine.

  • X230 Screen Replacemen: Check for warranty.

So I bought my x230 off of ebay, and apparently it has a 3 year limited warranty... but I do not know whether it has a warranty for the screen?
My laptop tumbled a foot off the ground (it slid from the edge of the bathtub, where I placed it while I washed my hands", partly open, and tumbled onto a bathroom scale, which was only a foot below...
I was seriously annoyed, because I bought this laptop under the premise that thinkpads were indestructable, and yet a little bump and tumble cracked the screen. Fall from the table? I could understand. Slide on to the floor from a foot high ledge and crack? that sort of breaks my conception of its legendary sturdiness. Huh...
Anyways, I'm on ubuntu, and I want to know if:
A: My limited warranty can do anything for me in regards to this,
    and
B: Whether or not I have a screen warranty for little drops. How do I check this?

Also a word of warning to lenovo designers: In the developer community, you are losing popularity because of the choices you have been making in regards to design recently. For my part, I want a utilitarian laptop, with my blue enter keys, lots of keyboard functional buttons, clean black plain design, durability and battery life at the cost fatness, and not a carbon copy of generic acer toshiba cheapo plasticy junk.
    Just my two cents.

  • Check java on users PC and give message

The following code has been written with Java 1.4 and works great, but if a user has Java 1.3 they get an error message and if a user has Java 1.2 nothing happens at all. Is there a way to check if the user is using a version older than 1.4 and if so pop up a message telling them they need to download a newer version of Java?

Well, if you don't want to use Package.isCompatibleWith and the version numbers will always be of the form x.y where y is at most one digit, you can use Double.parseDouble() and then compare the numbers. Otherwise you need to write a method of your own.

  • Invoice payment due date to friday if it falls on Weekend

    Hi All,
I have an interesting requirements in payment terms due date calculation. Say we assign a payment term to customer and Invoice is done.  If the due date falls in the weekend ..say 2 july 2014 which is  a Saturday. Can we set the system so due date is set to 1Jul 2014 which is a Friday. Underlying business need is when a due date fall on the weekend it doesn't go to Monday but bring forward to Friday. One can argue that Friday is not 30 days but 29 days so this not right.
    Thanks

  • Open Delivery is not considering in credit check in sale order

    Dear Experts,
Please advice what setting is required for Dinamic credit check at the time Sale Order creation
for Open Delivery & Open Billing Items should be considered at the time of new sale order creation,
I have ticked on Dinamic check - "C" Open Items "C" and ticked on open orders and open deliveries Horizon - 2 "T" but still it is not taking the open delivery amount.
    Ragards,
    SP Shukla.

    Hi
Pls. check your schedule line (delivery date)as you have mentioned the 2 days as the horizon period. If your delivery is falling after the specified horizon period then the credit limit will not be validated.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Requirements transfer to follow up materail, if the stock falls below

    Hi All
The issue is related to the requirements transferring the follow up material,
when the inventory falls below the safety stock,
the requirements has to generated for the follow up material,  in which is maintained in MRP 4
    =================
    Here in our case,
when the Inventory stock falls below the SAFETY STOCK,
the requirement are getting generated for the same material, but not for the follow up material( which is maintained in MRP4)
    ========================
What is the way out for transferring the requirements to follow up material (which is maintained in MRP4), in case of stock falls below the safety stock  ?
    Thanks  & Regards
    BRSR

requirement was already clear when you explianed in the first attempt.
i was trying to verify from you did you done anything on that or read any material for follow on mateial.
so follow on mateial has 2 stategies  (please check in SAP help file as i didnt worked on this from long time)
    1. to use the all existing stock of old and pass the requirement to other
    2. on the perticular date ignore any requirement for old material and pass all requirement to new mateial.
there is not way to achive your expected results.
and i am not finding any business requirement that way....what is point of thinking "safety stock" when the material is going to replace by other material.
    Please think on this.

  • Home Sharing and Airplay: fall 2011 major trouble in iTunes to APTV, IOS devices - detailed run-through.

Dear all, and dear Apple - as you know flagged trouble regarding Home Sharing to devices and to APTV has grown exponentially this fall and it is high time Apple calmly regained control over the situation. Get a grip, this is a fundamental "it just works" reputational issue.
Having read lots of community posts I am struck by how many crosschecks I have done and still cannot get Home Sharing to ´just work´ anymore.
    Symptoms of my troubles include:
    (1) In iTunes the Home Sharing house icon is nowhere to be found on the left hand side even though I have turned it on several times.
    (2) Airplay icon was visible in the lower right corner of iTunes for about two minutes last night but then vanishes.
    (3) My iPhone4S cannot find my shared library (under "More" or anywhere else).
    (4) And APTV will occationally load my Mac library to play a purchased tv episode but is highly unstable. 1 in 4 attempts succesful.
Ah, you say, "this all sounds like your home network is either faulty or the signal is not strong enough", or "you have not set up Home Sharing right".
    OK, let´s see...
The Airport Extreme station is right next to APTV, and is itself connected via ethernet to my router - and besindes my Mac can still find a strong signal via wifi. I access internet on my wifi-only iPad2 easily throughout the house, nice and strong signal. The APTV menu tells me the signal strength is excellent, and, most importantly - it worked a couple of weeks ago with no change in settings. I played my iTunes Library on my iPhone via Home Sharing, and I watched APTV TV episodes streamed from my Mac upstairs.
So far I have triple-checked the following settings:
Home Sharing on my Mac turned on under Advanced? yes. (House icon appears - until I press the "Done" button, then it vanishes).
Even though the House icon is nowhere to be found, is Home Sharing still "On" under iTunes Advanced setting? yes.
Under Preferences, Sharing, all ticks are carefully turned on? yes.
APTV Home Sharing: the same ID details, correctly entered?  yes. And for a little while, or on occation we have access to my library on APTV (but not the other mobile devices). Then it vanishes again (Computer menu on APTV telling me to turn on Home Sharing with ID etc.)
Mobile devices, under Settings/Music, are the Home Sharing details the same as those on your Mac/iTunes? yes.
All software on APTV, iTunes, OIS and Lion up to date? yes, as of 18/12 2011. For iTunes I have 10.5.2 (11)
I also reset Factory Settings on my APTV, which enabled us to watch a TV episode last night, but this morning it is gone again.
Within limits of how many devices I can share my library or iTunes with ? yes, 2 computers are authorised on my ID, and 3 devices are authorised on iCloud (iPad2, iPhone 4S and this Mac).
Have you tried the degrading, not-up-to-Apple-standard way of unplugging APTV/Airport Extreme/Mac power, and restarting your iPad/iPhone4S? Yes.
Does Airplay work from devices to e.g. APTV? yes it does.
Can I access the internet or rent a movie on APTV? yes.
Is this a strength issue with my Mac? Is my Mac fast/strong enough? Yes; it is a 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running 8GB/1067 MHz/DDR3. 100GB of available harddrive space.
Dear community - what have I forgotten to do, please? Any ideas?
And Apple: please help your repeat customers with these issues - clearly there are some room for improvement here!?
Regards and best wishes for the Season.

I seem to have a similar problem.  I have a Macbook and a PC, both running the current version of iTunes.  On the APTV (also running the current software version), only my Macbook library shows up under "computers".  Home Sharing is turned on for both and my Macbook library shows up under "Shared" on the PC, but the PC iTunes library doesn't show up on the Macbook or the APTV.
My question then is: How is it that my Macbook iTunes library can show up on the PC and on the APTV, but the PC iTunes library doesn't show up on either?  If the PC can see the shared libraries, doesn't that mean it's on the same network?  Along those same lines, "Shared" libraries do NOT show up on the Macbook.  Again I ask, how is it that I can see the Macbook library on the PC, but the Macbook doesn't show any Shared libraries?
All of this worked just fine before the upgrade to iOS 5 by the way.  I had no issues seeing any library on any devices and the APTV found both computers.
Please help.  This is really annoying!

  • Multiple Domain Controllers, different sites, checking status for replication

    Good day,
How can you see what DC has the current "master" or most up to date version? If I have 3 DCs and 3 different sites, and I add a new user at one of the sites, then that site has the newest master.  How can I check what version of the Global Catalog / ADUC version / revision they each have?
Is there a CMD / Powershell script to do so?

  • Is there a way to verify if my Macbook's all right after a fall?

I bought my Macbook Pro back in 2007, and until tonight I've never done anything worse than dropping it an inch or so onto my mattress, which is hardly going to cause damage. Tonight, though...it slid off a chair and fell three feet onto hard, tiled floor, impacting along the left side of the laptop.
None of the areas are showing the insides of the computer, there are just small misalignments and a few pretty small gaps, but I really don't know enough about computers to tell if everything inside is all right, and my Applecare expired months ago. And since I'm utterly broke, I seriously can't afford to send it in and pay out of pocket, or buy a new machine.
I know the SMART status is verified, and the few functions I've tried since the fall - opening, using, switching, and closing programs, as well as adjusting volume and lighting - all seem fine. There was a minute right after, though, when Finder stopped responding and then nothing but the mouse was working. I left it alone and it swung back into action pretty quickly, but it definitely makes me nervous, I don't want to take anything for granted.
So yes. My question boils down to this - are there any programs I could install, tests I could run, or anything else I could examine, to determine whether or not the hardware is still all right?

Run the Hardware tests from the install DVD by inserting it and holding down d at a restart, that will check everything and give you a good idea of how it's doing.
