  • Ipad falling asleep when recording in GB

    Hi all,
Ive had this happen to me once before but it stopped. I am recording in garageband and my ipad wont stay awake the whole time I am recording. So it falls asleep during the middle of a song and stops recording. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? I have restarted my ipad with no luck and have unplugged my blue yeti mic...pretty much done everything I can think to do.

It's not the drive you can hear, it's the fan. The drive runs all the time and is quiet: when you work in GarageBand the demands on the processor heat it up and this causes the fan to kick in. While an external hard drive would be a good idea, to give you more space and take stress off the internal drive, it won't affect this issue as it's the processor which is the cause. However it's harmless enough, the fan should keep the processor to a reasonable temperature.
You could install TemperatureMonitor if you wanted to keep an eye on the processor temperature.

  • Computer falls asleep while streaming content to ATV

WOAH! Now with iTunes 7.6.1, while watching streamed TV show from my firewire-attached HD to my iMac, the computer is allowed to fall asleep! Bad. Very bad. This has never happened before now. While watching ATV, 'content not found' message pops up the second the iMac goes to sleep. Anybody else getting this?

Click your Apple logo in the upper tool bar of your computer>Select system preferences>under hardware select energy saver>select NEVER under put the computer to sleep when inactive
Its a temporary fix I suppose

  • Mac falls asleep while ordering Photobook

I use an iMac G4 with the latest OS and iPhoto.
When ordering photobooks, I experience my mac falling asleep (i.e. 'lighthouse mode'). My internet connection is wireless, and I know the Mac sometimes looses the connection with my airport; but finds it back my itself. iPhoto can handle this; it just stalls sending, and continues automatically.
The mac itself however falls asleep after 1h no activitiy; but iPhoto running and having network activity doesn't mean 'now activity'.
I can overcome the problem by switching of sleeping in energysaving options; but it's anoying.
I also experience it sometimes with programs like Realplayer.
Does anyone know how mac defines 'activity'; and how I can overcome this issue?

    Martijn567:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know how Apple defines "activity" but I know that you have to turn of the sleep option when you're encoding and/or burning iDVD projects to disk image or directly to disk. So it seems to be a system wide issue for operations that rely primarily only on CPU work. It's just the nature of the beast.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • If I fall asleep on the phone, will my alarm still go off?

I sometimes fall asleep on the phone, will my alarm still go off if I'm still on the pone at let's say 8 am. But not awake, will my alarm sound and wake me?

You fall asleep while on the phone and the other party doesn't hang up during all that time?
I've seen posts here with people complaining about an alarm they have set going off while on the phone or while doing something else. I'm pretty sure an alarm that is set will sound off regardless which is by design so the alarm isn't missed.

  • I like to watch tvcatchup or sky go or I player on my iPad while falling asleep, the problem is that the iPad then stays on all night. I would like to find an app that allows me to set a timer for the iPad to switch itself off automatically.

Does such an app exist? Can anyone help me? Thanks

You can try the Sleep Timer.

  • IMac takes a while to fall asleep.

when I'm ready to walk away from my iMac I either use a hot cornet to start the screen saver and password protect it (screen lock) or I go apple (menu) sleep (password protecting it as well).
I have noticed that recently it takes longer and longer for it to fall asleep.
when I click apple sleep the screen goes black but the screen light is on (I figure it's not gonna fall asleep in < 2 secconds, I don't either) and the fans keep going... and I figure 3 secconds is reasonable.
but it's been taking 10+ secconds.
also wake up time is slow too.
should I try clear my cash? tempfiles? or get a defrag program?
    thanks in advance.

I think lots of people will help you get rid of any annoying cash you have!
    8^)
Seriously, do you have anything that might be running in the background that the system is waiting for or gracefully suspending? Maybe a few external drives that need their buffers cleared first? Things that were not an issue the first times you used the system but may have been introduced. I don't think your Cache is the problem though.

  • How do I stop my external HD from falling asleep??? So, so Frustrating!!!!

    Hey Apple users
OK, I have a Seagate 500GB external HD formated with MAC OS Extended. This puppy is great, very dependable, only ONE issue...
After not using it for a few minutes, it falls asleep, and when it needs to be used, it takes an annoying 6 seconds to start up. Working with audio and having live samples that are stored on this HD, not having them playback for a few minutes (ext. HD then falls asleep), then playing back the entire project with these files needing immediate use, the software CRASHES because it can't access the data fast.
I have no room on my PowerBook HD for much at all. This also causes problems in iTunes, wanting to play a song after not touching iTunes for a few minutes (when not playing), iTunes freezes for some seconds until it can access the songs on the external HD.
SO SO ANNOYING, the internal HD takes like .01 seconds to access data. And this HD takes like a painful 6 seconds Ugh,
How can I keep my external HD awake ALL THE TIME, unless my entire Mac is asleep??
    Thanks!

Actually, this app. I mentioned above... HDriveAwake... is not a good idea,
it has many flaws, but it's decent software, just needs some improvements, main issue: consumes an incredible amount of RAM and Processing PWR while working.... (on my mac.. consumed 60+ %) & this is a bad thing if you use an EXTERNAL HD for stuff like audio/photo/video editing... I'm just going to get a Mac Pro G5 with like 4TB, I need it.... my bank account doesn't, but i do...

  • My iMac G5 randomly falls asleep during use.

A few weeks ago I was using my iMac and suddenly lost control of the cursor, cursor became invisible and computer went to "sleep" (ie; screen went black, "woke up" a few seconds later after moving the mouse). This problem has persisted in all sorts of conditions and uses. Usually the intial episode is followed by another shortly after. The problem happens a lot while streaming video on the internet. However, the computer also falls asleep when using photoshop.
The problem began when the hardrive was nearly full (15 GB left on drive). I cleared out many of the larger files (lossless music files) to gain 87 GB or so. Problem persists. I mostly use this computer for typical web stuff (email, facebook, videos on youtube and the like) and graphic design (Illustrator and Photoshop). Hard drive had never been defragged. I usually restart the computer when problem gets really bad.
I've searched various forums for a solution. Many argue about defragging, some mention OS reinstall, no real clear consensus seems to exist about why the problem occurs or what to do about it. Any ideas?
    Specs: Mac OS X, 10.4.11, 2.1 GHz G5, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM

Your problem sounds more like a heat problem.  Try resetting the SMU:
       1.  Shut down the computer.
       2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
       3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
       4. Release the power button.
       5. Attach the computers power cable.
       6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that doesn't clear things up defragging won't do anything much, the best would be to try an
    Archive and Install  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
which will give you s shiny new OS, but keep your prefs and settings.  Make sure you select that option when reinstalling.

  • Is there a way to place markers while recording?

Is there any way to add markers to a GarageBand project while recording it? If there is not, is there a way to ask Apple to add that feature? On another note is there another Apple product that has that feature (such as Logic Express or Logic Studio)?

it actually doesn't matter what type of project you create, as long as you "show" the podcast track

  • My 2008 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion now falls asleep regardless of what is or is not happening.

First the good news. My 2008 MacBook Pro, which used to not fall asleep unless forced to do so (lid closed or command issued) now falls asleep. The bad news is that it will fall asleep even if a program is doing something and I'm not physically doing anything. More accurately it will fall asleep when uploading to Box.net, or when downloading map updates for my GPS. It also falls asleep when EyeTV is converting shows, but not when it's recording shows. I have third party apps that can keep it awake, but shouldn't my MBP recognize that something is happening and to not fall asleep?

  • IMovie 11 Exporting Movie and No File and External Drive Falling Asleep

Help!  Had a frustrating day and night with iMovie, which has been happening a lot lately.
We are making a highlight video for my son from his many sports events which are on a 3TB fixed external drive and a 2TB portable one.  After putting the highlight video together with clips from both drives it is time to Export the movie which I am doing to the 3TB Drive.  However after completion, there is no file anywhere.  Upon taking the same steps with same filename, there is no warning about existing file.  I have tried to export to local drive on Mac as well.
Also, if I do a higher quality export it takes a while and the external portable drive falls asleep.  Any way to keep it awake without sitting there and accessing the drive manually.  I looked in the drive settings through the mac and it does not tell it to put the drive to sleep.  In hindsight we should have had all videos on the 3TB drive but I am afraid to move them now.
And...we put some arrows in pointing to him with a freeze frame and PIP.  The arrows are there when I select them manually but don't appear when running through the movie as we preview the entire footage.
    HELP!!!!   Thanks

  • Closing application when falling asleep

Everytime my MacBook Pro falls asleep, Firefox and all other open applications got closed and donwloading cancelled and I loose all my open web pages. How can I prevent this? Thanx.

apple really needs to come up with an update to fix this issue. i mean you may loose all your work just because your mac wants to sleep. I think this is really stupid of apple to not think about this issue. i think there should be an option to keep the mac ON while the lid is closed. And i also think that it needs a sleep mode like windows does, you know the one where computer does go to sleep but without closing all the applications so that we wont loose all the work that we were doing and had not been saved yet.

  • My iMac falls asleep too often

I have mutliple users on this iMac and while I'll try to listen to itunes, if I haven't been active on the computer for roughly 5 minutes, the iMac falls asleep.
Is it something in my settings?

If iTunes is still playing, then only the Display has gone to sleep which is OK because it will help to save energy and make the display last longer.
If iTunes stopped playing then go to: Apple > System Preferences > Energy Saver and set Computer Sleep: to Never.
Then adjust Display Sleep: to whatever time you want.
Personally, I sleep my displays to save on energy if I am not using them.
