  • Extremely poor performance after update to 1.6

    Hi,
I've recently updated to 1.6 from 1.5 and now any webpage that contains java applets takes anywhere from 20 seconds upto 1 minute to open and start. Is there a problem or should i just uninstall java completely?

Can you give an example of the applet that you are using?
Also, what OS are you using on the computer having this problem?

  • Extremely poor performance to various websites during peak hours - peering issue?

Since approximately 26 Jan 2015, we have been experiencing extremely poor performance to several specific websites during peak hours, 9pm-11pm.  Page loads take many minutes (or never complete), etc.  Many other sites are perfectly fine, and if I connect to the same sites at the same time through my work VPN, they perform extremly well (under 1sec).  There is no correlation between OS or browser and the poor performance (tested on Windows, OSX, Linux) and speedtest typically reports over 80/80.
I've not caught any packet loss using periodic pings.  Traceroutes indicate a bunch of different routes being used (I assume this is expected for CDNs), but here's one example of an obviously bad single traceroute:
    $ traceroute images.dailykos.com
    traceroute to fallback.global-ssl.fastly.net (23.235.46.185), 64 hops max

The sites in question use the Fastly CDN - my theory is that the VZ-Fastly connection is under provisioned or is broken, but I'm out of my depth at this point.

"This is a nationwide peering/routing issue that was intentionally created by Verizon to create congestion and (1) extract priority fees from the likes of Netflix and (2) get customers to subscribe to higher speed tiers. This has been acknowledged by the FCC. Verizon is building new interconnections to remedy the problem, but it will persist for at least another 6 months."

  • Poor Firefox performance after applying recent Microsoft Updates (Win 7 x64); any solutions?

Recently I updated to Firefox 27 and noticed really horrible performance (Task Manager shows FF pegging one core, frequent "Firefox is not responding messages", even lagging keystrokes in the URL bar). This is on an Ideapad s205 (AMD E450 APU, Win 7 x64, 8GB RAM, SSD) that has always had pretty decent web browsing performance for a low-end machine.
Initially I blamed FF because the poor performance coincided with the update to version 27, but now I believe the root cause to be a recent Microsoft update. The reason for that is that my wife has a laptop with an even lower-end APU (C60 APU, 5400rpm hard drive, 4GB RAM, Win 7 x64), and she was getting much better performance with FF27 until I applied a backlog of some 90+ updates. Now she's suffering from the same poor performance I am and she's pretty p*ssed at me.
Interestingly, I have two WIn 7 x64 Intel desktops that also have FF 27 and are fully patched, and the performance is just fine. Perhaps this problem is specific to AMD APUs.
Any thoughts? I've tried turning off the Azure backend per some comments in this forum, but that made little or no difference.
    Thanks!

Hi guigs2, I'm not sure what to expect for cache values. Mine are:
    * browser.cache.disk.capacity;256000 (default)
    * browser.cache.disk.smart_size.enabled;true (default)
    * browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value;358400 ("user set" but I think this was computed automatically)

  • Db6util -rtvt extremely poor performance

    Hi all,
I wonder if someone can assist me poor performance on renaming the virtual tables in DB6 post system copy?
We have copied the database back from Production > QA server.  Once we have done this, we renamed the tablespaces and now have to rename the virtual tables as per note https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1227165
However, each table rename is taking about 10 seconds to complete - with a lot of "Sort" going on.  Looking at the SQL statement, it seems to be taking a long time to Sort.  I enclose the sort time from the snapshot below of the agent's sort performance and the SQL statements.  If anything else might be useful, please let me know.
Can anyone advise me on whether they have faced this issue / how they have resolved or improved the performance? Or is it just that slow?!
Thanks in advance for any assitance,
    Total sorts                                = 73
Total sort time (ms)                       = 843903
The 2(?) dyanmic SQl statements executing are:
SELECT TEXT FROM SYSCAT.VIEWS WHERE VIEWSCHEMA = CURRENT SCHEMA AND VALID <> 'Y' AND TEXT LIKE '%TBE00%' WITH UR
SELECT VIEWNAME, TEXT FROM SYSCAT.VIEWS WHERE VIEWSCHEMA = CURRENT SCHEMA AND TEXT LIKE '%--DDL_TABLE%E1P#POOLD%' ORDER BY VIEWNAME WITH UR
    Thanks

    Hi Frank,
Thank you so much for getting back to me on this so quickly!
We are using DB2 9.7 FP3 for LUW on a HP-UX environment. There is very little CPU usage and no paging at present.
    The db6util -v output is:
This is the DB6 (DB2 UDB) utility program for SAP kernel 701.
    UNICODE compiled:                YES
    compiled for                  64 BIT
    patch level                     0004
We have a single instance of -rtvt running and SAP is currently offline.
I believe file system buffering is in place at the HP-UX level.
Placing those statements into EXPLAIN we see the below - I assume the SORTS are here (though they do not seem to increase the cumulative time):
    0 SELECT STATEMENT ( Estimated Costs =  1,236E+03 [timerons] ) num_rows tot_cost i/o_cost
           1 RETURN  8.0618E02  1.2360E03  3.1655E+02
               2 TBSCAN  8.0618E02  1.2360E03  3.1655E+02
                   3 SORT  8.0618E02  1.2360E03  3.1655E+02
                       4 FETCH SYSVIEWS  8.0618E02  1.2357E03  3.1655E+02
                           5 RIDSCN  8.0618E03  1.2770E02  2.7498E+01
                               6 SORT  8.0618E03  1.2770E02  2.7498E+01
                                   7 IXSCAN INDVIEWS01 #key columns:  1  8.0618E03  1.2540E02  2.7498E+01
I will attempt a REORG and let you know how that performs afterwards.
Many thanks for your suggestions and if anything of the above looks concerning, please let me know!
    Thanks
    David

  • Poor Performance after start up and Frequent Crashes

I have a brand new imac i order a little over 6 months ago, i immediately migrated my old imac's files to the new mac and everything worked great but then slowly began to degrade in performance and now i have nothing but problems that have gotten worse.
The first problem occurred with a slow performance speed after about a month of amazing performance.
Then I noticed the new magic mouse i had ordered with the computer would lose connection with the computer causing it to crash, also the new mouse would not hold a charge for long. My last magic mouse did not have this issue.
My computer would fall asleep and then i could be unable to wake it by using my mouse, even plugging in an apple pro wired mouse would not work, i had to turn the power on and off to restart
My bluetooth was acting funny trying to connect to devices i hadn't authorized
    Then came a kernel crash.
Then came apple 3 tired support who after weeks of diagnosis over the phone were stumped.
I tried the following to fix the problems myself:
    reset the Pram
    Repaired Disk Permissions
    Checked the hardware
    reinstalled the OS
Checked for and installed all software updates
    Reset the SMC
Ran 3rd party software "mackeeper" to optimize my files and check for viruses
Clean up unneeded files so plenty of memory
And finally downloaded a 3rd part program called "idrefrag" to defrag my system files.
    nothing worked
I was unable to take additional time to deal with the issue, i work and attend school online and was extremely busy during the summer so i had to just deal with the issues because being without my computer was not an option i had.
After my busy summer ended, the problems had only gotten worse
Now, not only does the mac fall asleep and not wake up and not respond to the magic mouse to wake up or reconnect when the mouse and mac lose signal, but now when i plug in a usb flash drive to my external flash drive port, it's like playing russian roulette, half the time it's fine, the other half the computer freeze upon insertion of the drive. I shouldn't have so much anxiety plugging in a 8gb flash drive.
but now on to the worst part, before the summer when i had to restart after crashes it was normal, but now when i restart, the computer acts like it has to remember how to even be a computer again. Upon restarting after the classic Mac tone:
My mac desktop begins to reload, although the icons on the top right appear then disappear and then appear to load back up very slowly.
Moving files to another folder or tp the trash is painstakingly slow, i get a message saying "preparing to move file" that goes on for 10 minutes.
Simple tasks like trying to copy and paste or access my "places" on the side bar like "movies, "Pictures" etc cause a pinwheel and then each "place" has to load all the files as if it's searching the computer for them all before i have access to them, this can take 5-10 minutes
When i click on an application from the dock to load, it just bounces for a while and then finally starts up but takes 5 minutes or more to be able to access without a pinwheel
Overall the computer basically forgets how to be a computer and has to relearn how to do the simplest tasks, the next 24 hours is plagued by pinwheels and slow performance and then it acts fine again, but i can never shut it down or it start all over again, so i just let it fall asleep when not in use and cross my fingers that when i come back it will respond to the mouse and wake up, half the time it does, the other half, i have to restart by holding the power button down and then pressing it to start up again.
I had to just adapt, so i have a good system down now and so when I restart i run the system disk utility and repair the HD 1 & 2 's permission which always seems to have a lot of issues and that kinda helps speed along the 24 hour relearning process. But i shouldn't have to do all this stuff, i spent 3,000 on this computer, i bought all the upgrades and after a couple of months of amazing performance i was left with a time bomb and 3 tier apple support who have no idea where to go and now wont even call me back despite my paying for 4 years of apple care, I am at a total loss of what to do, i can't afford to send the machine off for diagnosis and repair and frankly think Apple should send me a new machine since not only does the mac itself present problems, but so does the new magic mouse, and the rechargeable batteries and charger i purchased from them as well.
    My Mac info:
    Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
    Model Name:          iMacModel Identifier:          iMac12,1
    Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed:          2.8 GHz
    Number of Processors:          1
    Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
    L3 Cache:          8 MB
    Memory:          16 GB
    Serial -ATA
    any suggestions?

Thats a shame, you should be enjoying your mac!, what was the final outcome of the Apple support guys?. I think if it were me and i had tried tried everything that you have including the support tech. i would be pressing for a replacement mac.

  • Extremely poor performance on good machine (dual xeon, Revodrive, SLI etc.)

    Hello,
I've looked for answer, read all the articles about making better performance of PS and I still can't solve the problem... I even tried Photoshop CC and the performance was... worse. I measured time it took to open some files or make some of my actions.
Programs performance is so incredible bad, it's not even annoying it is some disaster... sometimes I have to wait more than 10 seconds for response when I'm moving a layer or few seconds when applying some very simple transformations to smart object (logo etc.). I spent a lot of money on my workstation hoping it will work smooth and fine, and it seems that it is working worse than my old machine for 1/10 of its price. I hoped that moving to Cloud will solve the problem and the new software understands better new hardware I own, but NO! as I mentioned it is working even slower.
The problem only affects Photoshop and Illustrator, After Effects run perfectly fast... but I work mostly on Photoshop and Illustrator. Most of the time both programs are opened.
Some more hardware details of my workstation:
    Dual Xeon 2630 @ 2.3 GHz
    32 GB Ram
    System Drive: PCI-E Revodrive 3 x2 240 GB
    Storage Drive: 3GB WD
Graphic Card: 2x GF GTX 680 in SLI (2GB memory each)
    System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
    Adobe Suite CS 6 Master
I keep to all advices from "Photoshop performance" articles. I tried another SSD drive as scratch drive, all drivers are up to date, system is "fresh installed" without any garbage...
I'll really apreciate any good advice that could help me solve the problem, so I'll be able to work normal. Without lost hours on waiting for the simpliest actions.

I just to reinstalled drivers and NOTHING... (Latest nVidia drivers clean install)... I also looked on my resources manager and after few munutes photoshop easly uses more than 50% of avaiable RAM... when I'M working procesor usage is about 5-9% (12% was maximum) and when I run also Adobe Illustrator memory usage goes above 60% but cpu usage is still low (5-7%). I have 32GB of memory... PSD file I work on is 750MB... Maybe there is some issue with my memory, buffer or something like this? Any idea?
When I copy 1920x1080px layer from one program to the other it takes few minutes, and sometimes programes crush... even if I'm not working the memory usage is now above 60% - shouldn't it go down?
oth Photoshop and files I work on are on the same drive (PCI-E SSD OCZ RevoDrive 3x2 - so it shoulb be super-fast...).
Sorry for bad spellings - I'm so angry now!!!
    HELP PLEASE!

  • Poor performance after format and OS install.

    GT70 0ne
    3610qm
    680m
    24g Kingston ram
    Win7 64
Yesterday I formatted my drive and installed win7 64, after installing all the (old) drivers on the MSI website (link below), in the correct order, then waiting a good 8 hours for all the windows updates to install, I booted up WoW and found horrible FPS. I ran 3dmarks 11 and scored a dismal 2600 with my graphic and combined scores around 2500 and the physics at the normal 8500.
Searched online for some solutions, put the 680m as the default for WoW and 3dmarks but with no difference. I went ahead and got the latest drivers for the 680m off the Nvidia website and saw no improvement.
I did not install any utilities from the MSI website, are any of them needed for the proper function of the laptop or are they all fluff?
I did not install any firmware either, Is it needed?
Should I download the latest drivers for all the components or stick with MSI's?
The laptop itself is extremely quick when not needing graphical power.
    Thank you.

The following factors will affect the performance score:
    - Using AC or DC.
    - Power plans (Windows). High-performance or Balanced mode.
    - Numbers of background processes.
    - Wi-Fi/BT on or off.
    - Improvements from newer BIOS, EC, or Video BIOS versions.
    - Screen brightness (slightly affected).
Your score is indeed a little lower. Check the points above to improve it.

  • InDesign (and Acrobat) poor performance after virus - ideas?

    Hi everyone,
we have a problem with our system (spec listed below); I've also posted in the Acrobat forum since it is affected as well.
    System
    Dell Precision T7400
    CPU(s): dual quad core Xeons
RAM: originally 2GB, upgraded to 4GB 1 day ago
    OS: XP 32-bit
Adobe Software: Originally CS3 Suite, now CS5 Suite
                             Acrobat 9 Pro
    Problem
Acrobat: 1. stutters slowly when scrolling, almost crashes
                 2. Takes 4X longer than before to "Reduce file size" for PDFs
InDesign: stutters slowly when working with text and tables, almost crashes
    Cause
Virus infultrated system about 1 month ago.
    Attempts
    1. Re-imaged disc and installed software based mirroring software with 2 extra backup drives: system still lags
    2. Re-formatted, reinstalled: system still lags
    3. Turned off mirroring: helped a little
    4. Ran various memory, motherboard tests: nothing found
    5. varified all BIOS and firmware up to date
    6. Uninstalled mirroring software, installed hardware based mirroring software, reformatted, reinstalled: system still lags
    7. Tried working with files directly from C:/ with no mirroring: system still lags
    8. Installed fresh 4GB memory: system still lags
    9. Have tried all methods of helping InDesigns performance but no luck.
    Thoughts
Comparing this system to my old laptop (Centrino Dual Core), the laptop runs about 4X faster since the virus. Before the virus, this system was a dream to work with, super fast speed, never lagged.
I keep thinking that the virus must have damaged somthing on the motherboard, but error messages or motherboard beep codes.
Any other suggestions (short of shotting this system) would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't actually re-flash your BIOS, did you? Yes
If it was fast before the infection, and slow after the reformat, then this is pretty much the only place that anything could be different. I'd be more inclined to test hardware than continue chasing software, in your shoes.
Ran various RAM tests, and the BIOS shows nothing out of the ordinary.
But it's certainly nothing to do with the software, unless the new install was botched for reasons having nothing to do with the virus, or that the virus is actually hiding in one of the spots on the motherboard that can be written to, like the BIOS.
Clear one thing up for us - you say
Adobe Software: Originally CS3 Suite, now CS5 Suite
Does that mean "it ran like a dream with CS3, but now that I have CS5 it's running slow?" Because, if so, you're chasing a red herring - CS5 consumes a lot more in terms of computing resources than does CS3. You should be looking at how to tame CS5's resource consumption, and there are plenty of threads about that.
After the reformat, CS3 Indesign was a dog as well as Acrobat 9 Pro. Upgraded to new CS5 Suite (all but Acrobat 9 Pro). CS3 & 5 Indesign still a dog as well as Acrobat 9 Pro
Lastly, I haven't seen malware hiding in flash ROM on the motherboard more than once in the last decade. It wouldn't generate any error messages or beep codes, either.
Same here, have not witnessed malware/viri infultrating the BIOS since back in 99'. Never the less, it's the only idea I can come up with. I have yet to locate any software for testing the NVIDIA NVS 290 video card. This is the strangest issue I have seen ever.

  • SGD + Poor Performance After 3 Hour Connection

    Hello,
I have a user who connects from home via a DSL connection to the internet then to a Windows XP VM (VMWARE) through SGD. The performance is good for the first 3 hours or so and then begins to slow down. The user is mainly working in MS Word 2000 and what starts to happen is the screen refreash becomes so slow that she is able to type several sentances with nothing showing on the screen. Then after a few minutes everything appears all at once.
The issue happens everytime the user connects for a long period of time. At first she has no delay issues but 3 hours later the screen refreash is so slow it is not usable. To fix the issue the user reboots the Windows XP VM and closes the SGD connection. She then reconnects and it is good for another 3 hours.
I have logged into the VM here locally when she reports that it is slow and the VM is running fine at normal performance so the issue is not with the VM. We are using RDP to make the connection to the Windows XP VM.
Any ideas why this session is slowing down after about 3 hours of use. She might be my only user who is on SGD for that long (3+ hours) so I am not sure if it would happen with other sessions (users).
    Thanks
    Bryan Gawronski

    Hello,
What you need to know is if the issue is between your SGD server and the VM or between the SGD server and your client?
Might i suggest that you get her to immediately report the issue when it happens next to you and you have a look at the load on the network, cpu and ram on the SGD server and if that doesn't show up anything unusual then login to SGD with her account and resume her session to the VM and see if it is also slow for you.
You could also try other things like giving her another VM to try both when the first one slows down and also instead of the first one to see if it slows down at all.
If you can replicate the error in your own office then it will help you to better troubleshoot the issue.
Hope this can be of some help to you.

  • Glitchy and extremely poor performance with Red footage in AE on 16 core machine

    Hello,
I have set up a new Windows 7 workstation for AE CS6 based on:
    - ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS with dual Xeons,
    - 64Gb. of RAM
    - Nvidia Quadro K5000 (also tried my older Quadro 4000 with no difference in results)
    - Nvidia GTX 680 (mainly for DaVinci)
    - BMD DeckLink SDI
    - AE 11.0.2.12 with the latest updates.
    - The source footage is sitting on two SSD drives that are raided together.
The problem is that it is exceptionally slow and glitchy when loading Redcode to the viewer and into Neat Video.  Whenever I try to load a clip or reposition the cursor, the UI locks and starts flickering - meaning the entire AE UI starts disappearing and reappearing really quickly, so you can see whatever is on the desktop behind appear and disappear.  The AE icon in the taskbar also starts flickering. if I click anywhere on the taskbar, AE stops the flickering for a while, though generally after a bit it starts again, until it's finally done rendering the frame and everything goes back to normal.  It does better if I set it to 1/4 resolution of course, but that's not particularly useful since I need to be able to feed a full definition frame to Neat Video to set the parameters.  Occasionally it actually fails to render the frame and then Neat Video complains.
This is extremely problematic because this was supposed to be an upgrade from my preexisting quad core i7 machine with 16Gb. with HDDs instead of SSDs.  Running the same version of AE, that machine works properly and actually vastly outperforms this much more powerful workstation when getting the previews ready from 4K Redcode, so something is clearly not working out on this new installation.
I have spent a significant amount of time investigating the issue, but I'm not getting anywhere.  Some of the things I tried:
    - Updated BIOS and all display drivers
    - Trashed preferences
    - Disconnected everything except the disk drives, Quadro and the RME RayDAT audio interface, made a new Windows 7 installation with just Adobe Master Collection and the audio drivers - no extra AE plugins or other drivers.  Same behavior, even after disconnecting the RME.
    - Tried the latest redimporter from Adobe Labs, made no difference.
    - Enabled and disabled multiprocessing
There is a single post from about 2008 in the forum where someone described the same UI flickering.  In that case, Logictech SetPoint turned out to be the app that was interfering, but I don't have it installed.  Right now it seems like there is something else that's interfering with the redimporter, or else there is a problem running this on the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS, which I find hard to believe because from the forums it seems like there are a number of people who have also bought this motherboard for an AE platform.
If anyone has good ideas about what might be going on with this problem, or can validate that they have been able to get a good Z9PE-D8 installation running AE to process Redcode, please advise while I keep trying.
Best regards, and thank you in advance.

The workstation has a 1000W PSU and only the Quadro is taxed since it's the main display interface.  The GTX680, I believe, is completely idle while AE loads a Redcode frame.  According to my calculations, the power consumption should top out at about 850W if the system were really loaded down, which it isn't in this case.   I nevertheless tried removing the 680 from the system and it didn't help.
I should restate that it's not the whole screen that flickers - it's the AE user interface.  The rest of the desktop is just fine, and in fact if I want I can operate the browser or other apps without a problem even as AE is choking.  It's AE that's having a hard time.
The drivers are all the latest from Nvidia, as I stated originally - one install for the Quadro and one for the GTX.  I disabled all the stereo vision Nvidia services in service manager.

  • Poor perfomance after applying SP19

After we installed SP19 for XI3.0 the J2EE engine has become unbelivably slooooooow.
Has anyone else experienced the same? Any tips?

  • Poor Performance after Compute Statistics

    Hi Guys,
Has anyone had this problem before:
Database and application is running at about 700ms response time with very little io. After performing dbms_stats.gather_database_statistics, the performance drops to about 4 sec response time, with lots of FTS. After bouncing the DB, the performance goes back up to 700ms with very little io.
Version is 8.1.7 with db spread on two drive spindles with approx 1GB db buffer cache.
    Any ideas? Urgent response requested.

    Hi Donald,
Do you specify a large sort_area_size or alter any session parameters for dbms_stats to complete quicker?
Or did you run the query when the dbms_stats was running?
These could cause issues once the process completes.
A DB bounce does not alter the statistics for the tables and the performance before and after the bounce, unless there was something else that was running and impacting the performance of the query.
    Hth.

  • SSL Proxy Tunneling - Extremely poor performance on Windows 98

Does anyone know of a solution regarding poor connection speeds when proxy tunneling on windows 98?
Currently initial connections are taking up to 40 seconds!! Which is unacceptable. The same code run on the same network, but under windows 2000 cuts this down dramatically.
I know there are some issues regarding secureRandom, and some people have mentioned performing their own seeding process. However I don't want to go down this road, as it could potentially reduce security.
    Any help would be appreciated.

In case anyone is having this same issue:
It appears that SunJVM1.4.1 has a fix in place for this problem, and I can confirm that this has resolved the issue. Not sure why it has not been implemented into the latest JSSE download, and it certainly should be documented somewhere as this would have saved valuable time.
As my current application needs to be run under 1.3.1, I am forced to use 2 versions of the JVM!!!

  • Extremely poor performance T420s

I'm at my wits end with this, and need suggestions/solutions:
    New T420s, 2.5Ghz Core i-5
    8 GB Ram
    320 GB HD/7200 RPM
Windows 7 Pro - Original install by Lenovo
This computer is so slow!!   The boot is over 2 minutes, things open slow, I have ran virus scan (no issue), I have updated everything, latest drivers, etc.   The Hard drive light is almost always on, and it feels like it's slower than my 2005 Dell laptop.
I suspect one of the problems is the Lenovo Thinkvantage bloat ware.   it's always coming up with messages and offers.
I also have the video card issue where the screen resolution switched to 50hz, which causes me great eye strain.
The battery life is lucky to get 2hrs on a full charge.
The end result is that for a $1500 laptop I am extremely displeased.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to increase performance, short of installing a SSD Drive (my next plan, along with a full clean install without the Lenovo bloatware)

Your Windows Experience benchmark scores are normal for a T420s. However, I don't get the same performance problems that you do. It looks like your slow performance is caused by the disk (given that the HDD light is always on), and we can rule out a failing hard drive because your HDD benchmark score is still normal. I would conclude that there's a process running in the background that's constantly accessing the hard drive and making your computer extremely slow.
I don't suspect the Thinkvantage tools. I have that software installed and it doesn't slow down my computer when I'm not actively using the tools.
First, go into the Windows task manager and look for something that's obviously using a lot of CPU even when the system is idle.
Second, download a copy of Sysinternals Process Monitor and look for a process that's making an inappropriate amount of filesystem access. Using this tool for troubleshooting takes some skill and experience, because even on a normal system, there's a great amount of extraneous activity going on that doesn't actually have a measurable performance impact. It's easy to become misled and believe that the problem is being caused by a particular process that's actually harmless.
Finally, try doing a system restore back to the factory software install. (Although if you say the system is "new", maybe you already restored back to the factory install?)
