Family Base Issues.. FRUSTRATED

I added Family Base to my cell plan last week in an attempt to control my daughter's out of control data usage.  I set everything up (with my husband and I as parents, her as a child and blocking her data after 5 GB).
Both she and I are getting text messages that we have exceeded our data limits and/or we have used 75% of our data for the month, although we have only used (as a family) 2.344 GB of 13 GB.
I have already called Customer Service and was told to clear our cache, which was done and I am still having issues.
I am beginning to believe that the program is just terrible.  I am also a bit angry that Verizon would put out a program that is so faulty.  I am a 19 year customer with Verizon and right now with all  of the extra charges and no data rollover and all of the great things I am seeing about other carriers I may finally jump the fence, so to speak.

First and foremost as a 19 year customer of ours, we certainly appreicate your many years of loyalty with us jwpillar. I understand the importance of ensuring the Family Base feature is working acurately at all times. Allow us to get to the bottom of this for you. I myself use this feature for my daughter and receive text messages when she is getting close to her data allotment. When you receive these text messages are they referring to her allotment? With Family Base, you will get text messages when the line who has the data restriction reaches 50%, 75%,90% and 100% of the allotment. Also, when you set the data restriction, did you power her phone off and on to ensure the data allotment is set correctly?
Thank You,

  • Family Base Not Restricting After Hours

We have Family Base installed on our phone and on our son's phone. We have night time hours set up - but Family Base is not restricting his text messages or anything. Could this be because he has Wi-fi and mobile data turned off? How is he getting around it? Any ideas? I have had to physically take his phone away at night to stop the texting.

I also called Verizon and had a support ticket put in. They have informed me that the issue has been fixed. One thing they told me though was that family base will not honor restrictions if the phone has wireless enabled. So you have to turn off the wireless at night in order for it to restrict.
Another issue I have just discovered is the use of 3rd party texting applications - such as GO SMS Pro. Family base can not detect received messages - it can only log sent messages. This is also very frustrating.
I am considering getting rid of Family Base all together.

  • Problem in WV with Family Base, need help

We currently have 2 Android phones for my husband and me, and two iPhone 4 phones for my daughters. When I signed up for Family Base and created controls (no texting/internet after 10:00 p.m. etc) all four phones lost the ability to make or receive phone calls. NO calls out or in. We could not call each other, we could not call other family members, the ability to use the phones to make calls was completely gone. When I DE-activated Family Base, we got the ability to make calls again. THIS ONLY HAPPENED IN WEST VIRGINIA.  Once we crossed the border into Maryland or PA, the ability to call in or out was restored, but once we came back into WV, we were again cut off from calls. We tried to activate and then deactivate multiple times, and always had the same outcome. We gave up Family Base altogether when our phones ceased to work ANYWHERE, ANY STATE, for phone calls.
Please tell me that we are NOT the only family that has had this issue and please tell me someone is working on a fix, because it's a GREAT feature, provided you can use it and it doesn't mess up your phone. Tech support had NO idea what could have caused it.

Thanks for providing us with additional information TeriB19. Let's get your service back to making calls successfully. After adding Family Base, did you verify you did not add a usage restriction? Adding a minute usage restriction will disable the phones from working after you have reached the usage limit set. • Question about family base and 911 notification of both parents

    recently,we,had,someone,call,911,on,one,of,our,phones.,,I,am,a,parent,and,was,not,notified,,but,my,wife,who,i,think,is,shown,as,account,owner,on,our,bill,was,notified,on,her,phone.,,We,want,to,be,sure,we,are,both,notified,immediately,on,our,phones.,,How,to,I,change,family,base,to,make,both,parents,get,the,notifications,for,a,911,call,by,someone,in,the,family,base?,I,look,everywhere,I,could,find,but,have,not,figured,it,out.,thanks

There used to be more flexibility for notifications.  I called Verizon and they confirmed we lost some functionality.  I used to have notifications sent to my wife, but now they only go to the primary account holder.  This was changed in the past week.  I used to get the phone number in data usage alerts (phone number ##### reached it's limit), but now it doesn't tell me who reached the limit.  You have to login to the website to find out.  Even more frustrating was the notification that said one of my lines dialed 911.  It didn't tell me who, and I just pictured one of my family members in a terrible accident and the notification wouldn't tell me who it was.  When I called Verizon and said I needed to know, they wanted to teach me how to find it on the website instead if helping me in my emergency.  The bottom line is everyone needs to call Verizon to get this functionality back.  I agree you have at least the option of notifying any/all account owners.

  • Family Base Watchlist

I found out from my teenager that when a phone number is added to the watch list that Verizon sends a text notifying the child that the parent has placed a number on the Watchlist!  First, Verizon should have given me, the parent, a warning before doing this.  Secondly, Verizon needs to change this ASAP.  This service deficiency has now caused problems in our family!  I would have never clicked that little flag to put a number on the Watchlist if I knew my child was going to be notified.  Verizon, this is a serious issue.  Is there a way to get around this so that I can monitor my child's interaction with a particular number?

Not is there unlikely to be a way around this feature in Family Base, there ARE ways your child can still interact with said individual without your knowledge. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, etc... are all methods which Family Base cannot prevent your child from making contact.

  • Family Base vs My Verizon usage

I'm having an issue with texts and calls showing up in Family Base for two days ago that aren't showing in MyVerizon. When I go to family base and click on a certain contact, there are texts and calls that show for 2 days ago, but it's not in the "all activity" part of Family Base or on my MyVerizon usage. They were two days ago?!? Or is the FamilyBase wrong and it wasn't actually the day it says it was? My child swears he didn't talk to this person the day that FamilyBase says he did.

We definitely want you to have as much control over your daughter's phone as you need, Barbmark1017. What model phone does she have? What has been going on with her usage? Are you seeing calls and text in My Verizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc under her line during the restricted times?

  • Family Base in Alaska

I have 3 lines that I use Verizon Family Base for.  2 lines are here in Alaska. I've only added data restriction. The 2 lines here in Alaska are able to recieve/send text and recieve calls except make outgoing calls which they get an error message that says "Please re enter the 10 digit number you are dialing, do not press send"  Once I take off the data restriction, the lines work. So I need to know what is going on. I need the data restriction turned on or my data overages will be out of control. Please help!

        islandgirlinAK,
Thanks for the info! While the users are located in an extended coverage area, the functionality of Family Base will vary. If removing the data restrictions helps with the outbound calls, I would recommend removing the feature. Do you run into this same issue with the device not located in Alaska?

  • Family Base restrictions not working

We setup a family base account per the instructions and video. The time restrictions seem to be working fine but the list of trusted numbers is not working. Our son is still able to send and receive text messages through his iPhone 4 to anybody unless we specifically block their number on the Verizon account.
We found that even with Family Base restrictions setup, imessage bypasses those restrictions so we turned off imessage on his phone and setup restrictions on his iPhone itself. This stopped him from being able to use the imessage feature of the iPhone but people who are not setup in his trusted numbers are still able to get text messages through. We're frustrated because the family base is not working the way it's supposed to and we're being charge for this "feature."

    Hi Billiam!
I'm sorry for any inconvenience with your son's iPhone 4 and the Family Base feature. Upon review of this feature, I see that the child companion app is not compatible with the iPhone device. Some features will work, and some will not, but this is due to the design of the iPhone. Here is some additional information for you: http://vz.to/15gGAxd

  • Family base and extended network

Every time I enter an extended network, I am unable to make a call. I receive calls and can text. When I try to make a call I get message 'Please reenter 10 digit number...cant not press *67 or *82.  I called tech support and was told that the Family Base is restricting the calls and I would have to unsubscribe to it in order to make calls.  I did this and sure enough, could make calls.  I think there has to be a better way to fix this than to have to continually subscribe and unsubscribe to Family Base every time I go into an extended network. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a different solution rather than what I listed?

I also have the same problem and just found out it was Family Base causing it.  I think it's ridiculous that Verizon hasn't fixed this issue.  So I either can't make calls or can't manage my data usage?  Unacceptable.   Can someone from Verizon please respond?  Is there a fix planned for this?  Possibly when Lollipop rolls out?

  • Droid Turbo Family base companion app won't work

I have 3 droid turbo phones.  The family base companion works fine on 1. The other 2 will not.  I have rolled back updates and reinstalled numerous times.   Anyone else having this problem?

I can see why you are concerned. To be clear, are you saying that you have been able to check activity in the past without issue? Are you also using the Droid Turbo? From what I have found, the companion app is not compatible with the Droid Turbo.

  • Family Base - Time Restrictions

I added Family Base back in December when I bought my son his phone.  When I set  it up I set time limits on his phone but he is still receiving messages from his friends (which are not on the trusted contacts list) during the supposed restricted times.  I've checked everything, time zone, am/pm etc., and everything looks right.  What's the purpose of having a time restriction if anyone can still have access to him?  Does anyone know how to stop this?  And does anyone know why we can't see facetime calls on the activity log when they use an email address vs a phone number?  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi skyview4!
I'm so sorry to learn of any issues with the Family Base feature, for your son. I understand the importance of this! Have you checked your My Verizon profile to ensure that your settings are correct? Please double-check this, to make sure the correct restrictions are set. You can also remove the restrictions, then add them back.

  • Why can't I add Family Base to my plan?

I have tried unsuccessfully many times to add Family Base to my plan. I have blocked numbers from calling/texting my son's phone, but it doesn't really help when he just calls them. I need to be able to block him from calling these people as well. He has a Motorola Droid 4 and I have a Samsung Galaxy S III Mini. I am told that the phones are compatible, but for some reason, I can't add this feature. I continue to get the same error message every time. What can I do?

        Csummers0321,
This is very strange to hear! We may need to work a little magic on our end to get FamilyBase added. I've requested to follow you. Please accept, follow me back, and then use these steps http://vz.to/1cOOY6O to send me a Direct Message.

  • How can I get the family base companion app for my daughters iPhone 4s?

I recently added my daughter to my plan and I purchased family base.  I was wondering if there was any way to get the family base companion app on her iPhone 4s.

        Hi Davona78!
The FamilyBase service is a great service that allows parents to monitor and control their kid's phone usage, including calls, text, picture and video messages, data, contacts and app usage.  Although the FamilyBase companion application is not currently compatible with Apple devices, you can still subscribe to the service and manage the lines using the iPhone Mobile Web.  See more information here: http://vz.to/1thEl5r (see Question# 7).  Thanks!
