Family iTunes Acct. Sharing

Hi Apple Gang. Long time mac user, stuck with question. Over a years I have iTunes acct and build my music library, which we are enjoying. in past few years we have purchase over 50 movies stored in iTunes.  My wife use same iTunes library, and time to time is asked for password for iTunes acct, which is my iCloud password. Soooo..... my question is :
Can I have separate password for use with iTunes to be more family friendly, and not allowed my wife to go trough my iCloud emails. Don't get me wrong, but, just for sake of happy marriage, I don't won't  anybody to go trough my e mails. Do I have to create new email for iTunes library only. any help will be appreciate.
Best,
Dan.

Items purchsed through one iTunes account are permanently associated with that account and cannot be transferred.
Now be careful to be exact when using terminology.  An iTunes account isn't on your computer.  An iTunes account is an Apple ID and purchases at hte online store.  Items purchased are downloaded to your computer but the account is online.  On your computer you have your iTunes library which is a set of links pointing to media and purchases stored on the computer.  Different users of a computer may also have their own user area or computer accounts, each of which may have an individual iTunes library, or can share a common library, or alternatively a common set of media pointed to individual libraries.  You can see why it is essential to be specific in asking questions about his.
If your daughter is now going to start syncing to her own iTunes account through her own library in her own user space you can do a limited amount of file moving.  The media will still be associated with the old iTunes account but as long as she is careful about not misplacing themedia there will be no need to go back through that account.  There's probably a lot more detail but I use an old iTunes and have no devices so I am just reporting on what I have read.

Can I access my husband's iTunes acct. from my iPad?  i have his permission & pass code.  We want to keep all music in one place & family accessible.

If you log into his account and download some of his past purchases on your iPad then you risk tying your iPad to his account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
But it looks like that might change when iOS 8 is released in the Autumn (no date has been announced yet) : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
If you have his content in your computer's iTunes library then you could sync it from there instead of risking the 90 days association on your iPad. If you don't then you could copy it from his computer and then sync it to your iPad e.g. copy his music to a flash drive and then add it to your library via File > Add To Library

  • Can a family have multiple iClouds, with 1 iTunes acct?

We are a family of 4 apple users. I want us to share the same iTunes acct with one way to purchase items, but I want us each to have our own iCloud login for backing up our devices. How can this be done?
Also, would we be able to access or see each others i

Yes, in fact it's recommended that you have separate iCloud accounts.  You can have separate iCloud accounts and still share the same iTunes ID; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
To create separate iCloud accounts, each person should go to Settings>iCloud on their iOS device and sign in with a separate ID to create their account.  If they have multiple devices, then can create the account on one device, then go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with the same ID on their other devices.

  • I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, but my husband has his own itunes acct, how can he use the main itunes library and get out music on his phone also

I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, unfortunately my husband has his own itunes acct and when i change on his phone to my itunes acct it states that the email is already in use, any help on how to get the itunes match to go onto both devices, thanks

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • As a family we have shared are itunes music for a number of years as kids grow up how do we transfer some of the music to them

as a family we have shared music from one itunes account. now the kids are grown. how do we transfer some of the music to their new itunes account without them having to repurchase the music

You can't transfer tracks from one account to another. My kids have libraries authorized to my account and strict instructions not make purchases on my account unless I say so. A library can be authorized for multiple accounts, each account can be authorized to a maximum of five computers and each device can hold content from a maximum of five accounts.

  • Transferring 2 itunes to make 1 itunes acct.

I recently bought a macbook pro. I was able to transfer about half of my itunes from my pc to mac using "home sharing", the other half "was unauthuorized". Which I dont understand because all purchases have been made w/ itunes. I am able to get my husbands itunes acct. library on the pc to show up on my itunes on the mac using homeshare but not able to actually combine the 2 accts. or transfer his to mine and trying to make 1 acct. for the whole family. I have tried all the help topics and they dont work! Can anyone help me? I would greatly appreciate it.

Regarding the "unauthorized other half", were those songs purchased with another itunes acct? Home sharing only uses one itunes acct.
I would move the songs from the pc to the mac using an external hard drive (that's what I did; we use the laptop far less than we used to). I hope someone has an easier method.

  • How to burn songs from one itunes account to import into a new itunes acct

I have set up seperate playlists for my children under my itunes account. However, my son is now older and receiving itunes gift cards and we want to set up his own itunes account but don't want to loose the songs we have purchased for him under my itunes account. We want these songs to still be available for him to sync to his ipod so we think we need to burn the songs to a disk so they can then be imported into his new itunes account. He doesn't want to loose track of his itunes money nor do I want him to be able to purchase songs using my itunes acct credit card info without my knowledge, therefore, we think we need to set up a new itunes account for his personal use. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Not necessary. If you want to copy song files to a new computer, copy them to a USB flash drive, and then from the flash drive to the new computer.

He should definitely have his own iTunes library, be it on the shared computer or on his own computer. As for a separate account in the iTunes Store, that is really up to you, depending how the family shares.

  • My wife and I share Itunes acct we each have our own iphone and wish to have seperate acct.s how do we set it up

We share Itunes acct. We wish to have single acct.s for each iphone plz help

There is no way to split or merge Apple ID's.
That being said, it is possible to have content from multiple ID's on a single device.
Always use seperate ID's for iMessage unless you want to get each others iMessages.
You can use the same Apple ID for iCloud which will allow for downloading automatically the content wirelessly on the device.  This may be annoying though if you turn on automatic syncing of apps.
The best solution is to use a shared library in iTunes and sync the content you desire from the computer.  Then use a single but seperate Apple ID on each device.

  • HT1329 How do I change the devices associated with our family iTunes account?

One of the computers at work where I had sync my music and pictures has died, and when I tried to sync to the replacement computer, I was told I had exceeded the five device limit.  Our family of four shares the iTunes account, as we don't want our kids having their own, although they have devices.  We have devices at home and work, where we are both teachers.  Is there a way to use our purchases on all our devices we use?

The limit of 5 applies to Computers only.

If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store, deauthorise all five,
(Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)
Then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time..

Our family has one Apple ID and 2 iMacs. Can we have 2 separate iTunes accts, one for each iMac, w separate ID's? .... or must we sign in on both iMacs using my apple ID to purchase & redeem?  Just trying to keep 'mine' and 'theirs' separate.

You can do whichever you prefer.

There's info here on setting up separate libraries and user accounts. You won't have to reload (or re-import) all the music, just copy it.
The reason I suggest separate accounts on the Mac is because if you have the two libraries under the same user account, iTunes will also open the last library that was open in that account, and you'll always have to be mindful of which library that is. If you open iTunes and find it's not your library, you'll have quit, relaunch holding the option key and select the other library.
No, you won't have to log in and out of the Mac. (If I'm understanding your question here.) Multiple accounts can be logged in at the same time. And with fast user switching, you can toggle between user accounts.
I'll admit that maintaining the two libraries gets a little tricky, because if you share all the same music, you'll have to add it to one and update the other. (That won't happen automatically.) But I think Home Sharing makes this much easier to do.
    Hope that helps!

  • I helped set up a familiy member with an Itunes acct but all of my music transferred to them also.  How do I fix this?

I helped a family member set up an Itunes account, but in the process I transferred all of my music over to theirs also.  Now my playlist is in both locations.  Can I just delete the songs on the other family members acct, without having it affect mine?
