Family Plan Upgrade to New Phones/Activation

Hi,
My mom is the primary line for our family plan. We have 3 other lines besides hers in the plan. All the phonelines are eligible for upgrades right now, but my mom's line has an extra $50 dollars off upgrade discount.
My question is, if my mom's line is upgraded to a certain phone, does that certain phone have to be activated using her phone number, or could I activate her phone and use it with my phone number?
Reason being is, she doesn't want a fancy phone but her line has nicer phones to upgrade to since she has the $50 discount. I was wondering if she could upgrade to that phone, but then if I could activate it using my phone number (so in effect the phone would actually be mine without my phone number having to change)?
Thanks,
MM
Oh I was also wondering, when it says "Data Pack required" for a phone that I want to upgrade to, do I have to get a data pack in order to upgrade to the phone or get one after upgrading to the phone? Can I just upgrade to the phone without using data or getting a data pack?

Note that any phone that is eligible to upgrade can purchase any of the phones that Verizon currently offers at the 1 or 2 year contract price.  The only difference in what is available to your Mom's line is the $50 credit ON TOP of the reduced contract price.

You must have a data package active on the line that the phone is active on at all times.  When you activate the phone on any line, you will be automatically prompted to select an appropriate data package,

  • How to upgrade a family plan with 2 new droid x phones and iphones on same plan?

I am having trouble figuring out a way to renew my family plan with droids X and iphones on the same contract.  I can do it at a Verizon store but the they charge 150 per droid x phone . There are on-line places that let me upgrade to a droid X for free but they do not sell apple iphones.  Any ideas? I need 4 phone two droid X and 2  iphones.  I know the iphone is 200 everywhere.

Whenever you upgrade, you DO NOT have to do it all at one time, nor all at one place,. Were in America, the freedom to choose your Upgrade time and place

  • Family Plan upgrade question

I currently have a family share plan with 5 lines.  None of the 5 phones are smartphones.  2 of the lines/phones currently have the $10/month unlimited data package (LG Voyager phone).  Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package
We were in a store and it was difficult to get a clear answer.  It seemed that once one phone goes to the $30/month data plan then all other phones must have a $30/month plan as well.  Also, they implied we could no longer be on the same family share plan (700 minutes, unlimited text).  Perhaps I mis-interpreted what they were saying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ahhh, the old Connect/Select plan, where you could get the unlimited on 3G phones for $10 a month....unfortunately, those days, and that plan is long gone.    Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package  Yes.
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package  No.  The new plans/phones do not allow this.  Your plan will be changed to the current Talk & Text (equivalent of the Select) with unlimited texting on all lines.  You can add a $10 data package for a feature phone, but it will have a limit of 75 MB.
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package No - same as above.
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package Yes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure that' s what you wanted to hear, but it is likely what you will be facing.  There's a possibility you can keep what you have if you get all feature phones, but upgrading any of the lines to a smartphone will force a plan change to the Talk & Text, since the smartphone doesn't play nice with the old Connect/Select plans.

  • Splitting Family Plan upgrades

I have a couple of questions about upgrading a Family Plan and all of our phones.
I am the primary line and am interested in upgrading to the Iphone.  Can the loyalty credit be applied to the Iphone or is it an exclusion?
Second, can I upgrade my phone and renew my contract today and still maintain discounted pricing for the secondary lines?  The reason is I would like to upgrade now, but hold off a couple of weeks to get my daughter a new phone for her birthday.
    thanks for any advice!

  • Forefeit Free 4G LTE Double Data for Family Plan Upgrade?

I am currently on a Family Share plan with 4 total lines, two smartphones and two flip phones.  One smartphone currently has the unlimited data plan, and my own Droid Razr has 4GB data plan, which was doubled from 2GB for free as part of Verizon's extended promotion of 4G LTE devices.
One of the flip phone lines will soon be upgrading to a smartphone.  The Verizon store associate advised us that when this happens, our family plan will convert to the new structure.  Generally speaking,  for our situation, I find the new data plan structure attractive.  My sister makes no use of her unlimited data plan, and those other data hogs are what's driving up the costs of plans for more conservative users like us.  However, the associate also indicated that under the new plan, I'd be forfeiting the 2GB I currently receive for free.  I tend to use between 2-3 GB per cycle, so this is obviously a concern and going to cost us substantially more money under the new plan.  With our plan, I'll effectively be paying $120 more per year for data that I was told would be free.
Given that the double data promotion was a significant factor in my purchase decision, and that it's only be a few months since I renewed my contract under those terms, it seems unreasonable that this promotion isn't extended to the new plans.  Furthermore, the new plans are structured to offer data in 2GB increments, so it should not be difficult (as it would be with the unlimited plan) to simply add 2 free GB to our new family plan.
Was the store associate correct about this change?  If so, how is it fair to a longstanding customer to offer a bait-and-switch style promotion?  Is Verizon going to keep changing plan structures and ripping off customers lured in by assurances of free data?

in my opinion, he was incorrect. i "think" that you can upgrade the flip phone to a smartphone and that line would just select the individual tiered plan of $30 for 2 gigs. that is the way i understand it. of course, i could be wrong. the following is from there own website and i read as the current plans will still be available, and really, the only thing completely going away are the grandfathered, unlimited plans.
You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.

  • Family Plan Upgrade

I currently have a droid and I will be adding a line and upgrading to a family shareplan. I currently can not get a new phone on my exsisiting plan but does this reset when i upgrade to a family shareplan? I really would like to get a droid x.

The contract dates for your current line will be unaffected by the addition of another line to your plan and your change to a Family share plan.
The new line will be able to purchase a phone at subsidized pricing, but your line's upgrade eligibility date will remain the same.

You can check to see if you are qualified for an upgrade. Just log into the account holders name through MyVerizon. Under account actions click "upgrade". Look at your line and you will see how far away you are from an upgrade.
You would not have to pay an early termination fee to get a new smart phone. Early termination fee only applies if you are canceling your whole contract/line. You aren't.  If you are not qualified for an upgrade, you will have to pay full retail price for a new smart phone if you buy directly from Verizon.

Ok, that's the problem.  You can share apple id for apps/music.  However it is best to have separate apple id for icloud/facetime and imessage.
On both devices - go to settings - message - send&receive - either uncheck or remove the apple id.
then when you or your wife create a new apple id, you can input it in.

  • Iphone stolen. Am I able to erase my info with a new phone activated?

My iphone 5 got stolen a few days ago and I immediately put it into lost mode with a sound to go off and a message to appear telling him/her to return it. I got a couple of locations tracked but the theif would keep the phone off. I have iOS 7 with a passcode on the phone and Find my phone activated so I know the phone is pretty much useless and they won't be able to get in. I came to terms that the phone is long gone and I probably won't be getting it back so I went to t-mobile to get a new SIM card for another phone and clicked "Erase iphone" on iCloud. Since the stolen phone is offline, it says the data will be erased once it is connected to the internet. Without much thought I put the new SIM in the phone activating it but when it asked to log in to iCloud, I thought of something that I wasn't sure of so I thought I'd ask. My question is since the new SIM is activated, if I log into my icloud restoring the new phone to whatever I have saved on there, will the information on the stolen phone still be erased? Since the SIM card on the stolen phone is inactivated now, there is no cellular network for it to connect to , and the only way it would be erased is if it was connected to wifi, correct? But if I log into icloud on the new phone, will it log out of the old one and not erase my pictures, contacts, data, etc? Sorry for the huge paragraph, I just want to make sure all my data will still be able to be erased, even if I activate and start using a new phone (which is also an iphone 5). Responses will be appreciated. Thanks!

The find my iPhone services work based on the MIME and serial number, not your carrier's data... therefore the deletion should work if the device is ever connected to a network.
You can have several devices with the same Apple ID so you also don't need to worry about unwillingly logging the other device out.

  • Upgraded to new phone, Original Phone will not initalize.

I upgraded to the new phone, works great. I erased the data on the old phone (original iPhone) and now want to give it to my kid to use as an IPOD. I can't get it past the Apple Logo Screen.
Hooked it up to iTunes... doesn't recognize it.
    Now I'm stumped.

OK, I got mine to work by following the directions in this post from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Connect the USB cable to a computer and, while holding down the home key on the phone, connect the cable to the phone. When iTunes recognizes the phone, it will ask if you want to restore the software.
The only hitch I had here was when it went to do the restore, it had to download the software and that took a while. In the meantime, the phone shut down and I had to go through the procedure again. It didn't respond every time, so be patient.

  • More questions about iphone family plan - second line regular phone

I am planning to switch from a verizon family plan(2 phones) to att family plan with 1 3g iphone and one regular phone.
I will get the iphone and my wife won't
what is the best free phone to get from att ?
and how can i do this in apple retail store? they don't sell other phones right?
don't want to go to att store because they usually out of stock of iphone...

I would say your best bet is to go to an apple store and buy your iphone. Apple stores do not carry any other AT&T phones, and AT&T stores do not have many free phones. Once you buy your phone register online with AT&T and add a line there, they have tons of free phones online and ship second day air.

  • Adding a line to a family plan online - selecting a phone number

I am on a family plan.
I understand that if I change the number for an existing line, I can only select from numbers in the same area.
However, if I add a new line to the account, will I be able to select an area code from a different part of the state?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Yes - we added a line for my Mom to our family plan, and she lives across the country. We were able to get her a "local" number for her area in NY state, while all the rest of our #'s are local to us in California.

  • Trade-in Next plan without getting new phone

Once i reach the payoff to upgrade and i am eligible to upgrade my Next plan phone, can i trade the phone in without getting a new Next plan and just bring my own?

    Hello @Zer0320
The pay to upgrade with Next is only if you actually plan to upgrade to a new device.
In your case, you would actually pay off the installment plan and then trade in your device via the AT&T Buyback program.
You can also bring your phone to an AT&T store for instant in-store appraisal and applicable credit.
    Thank you,
    Charise

If the basic troubleshooting steps, including restore as a NEW device, not from backup, have failed to resolve your issue, then you are probably having some hardware malfunction.  You will need to bring your phone, and $199 to Apple for out of warranty replacement of the phone.
