Family Share Approve a Purchase Never Works

My daughter and I have been working with the new Family Sharing feature, me as organizer and her, as child requiring approval. We are both on iOS8 devices. She can initiate a request to purchase a song, and I receive the notice. However, when I click approve, I am prompted to enter my Apple ID password. I enter my password and then it closes momentarily, then prompts me again. It seems like it will even ask for my TouchID sometimes, but then it goes back to password.
No matter how many times I iterate it never works and I just have to cancel to move on with my life. We've tried this numerous times and still no luck. I'd like to believe it won't be this hard. More importantly, I hope I can just use my TouchID for approval because I use a strong password and this will get old very quickly. If it ever works, that is....

Just tested it out and exactly the same problem. On the Yosemite beta I click the notification and a window pops up but the approve button doesn't do anything. On the iPhone clicking the notification brings up a white screen with cancel in the top left. It seems as though its loading but never gets there so I have to cancel

  • How do I Family Share in-app purchases?

How do I Family Share in-app purchases?   The free app only allows certain areas to open. An in-app purchase unlocks the full app capability.  I cannot Family Share the in-app purchase. How do I do this?

There is a way to get around it, as it worked for me!
I turned on family sharing for my son. Now I have set up an Apple ID account for him too. His ipad was under my Apple ID account but I have since restored the ipad to factory settings, setting it up as his own now (you don't need to do this step, but I chose to do it so everything on his ipad is under his account now).
When I logged into the App store on his ipad, using his Apple ID account I can access the apps that I have purchased (I being the main account holder). However I had the same issue as you, that I couldn't family share the in-app purchases.
To get around this on his ipad, I logged off from the app store with his Apple ID account and then logged into it again using my Apple ID account. Therefore I could download the original apps that I had purchased for him + the in-app purchases. Then I logged out of the app store using my Apple ID account and logged in again using his Apple ID Account. Bingo now the full app is on his ipad!
Then I synced his ipad to the itunes library on my PC, so the apps are now in his library. It would be also wise to do a backup so you don't have to repeat this process again.....
    Cheers

  • Family share approval keeps requesting icloud password

I have Family Sharing set to require my approval when my daughter buys something from the store. Today when I try to approve items it keeps asking me to input my icloud password.
    Sign In To Approve
Enter the iCloud Apple ID password for [icloud email]
When I put it in, the same dialogue box just reopens with no error message.  Today she bought 3 songs. This issue arose and I tried to input my password to no success. I then went to Settings/iCloud and it asked for my Password and there it took. So I went back to the Family Share notifications and 2 went through but when I tried to approve the third it asked for the password again. I tried going back to the iCLoud settings but it doesn't ask for my password. I then actually reset my password to something new but that didn't help either.
I found this article about similar issues in the fall
    http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/29/apple-woes-continue-some-reporting-icloud-down-acr oss-ios-mac-and-web/
And the system status says everything is fine right now:https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.  I did not sign out but as I mentioned I did reset the password. Signing out deletes everything from the device so I held off. It turns out that these folks tried it last fall when it hapened to them and it didn't work:

It also happens that the same thing is happening on my imac, so it's probably not a hardware issue.

  • Family Share and blocking purchases

Why has apple decided that 14 and older is an appropriate age for me to give my child access to my credit card?  Shouldn't I have the option to turn on purchase request for any family member, at any age, if it is my credit card on the line?   I would like to set up family sharing but since I can not at least review and approve what my teenage children purchase with my money I will not set it up.
For those of you in the same situation I have a round about solution I have been using for a few years now.
Set up your kids accounts with their own account but go on to their device and set up the app store with your main account and turn on require password.
This works but is a bit of a pain since they have to actually bring me their device for me to put the password in.
The other problem with this is that they can not purchase items on their own accounts.
My kids are good with it.  I pay for the phones and we have rules for them to have them.  I just wish apple made it a little easier on me.

    Hagame,
I find it odd about the family purchase thing too. Thank you for your insight as I thought you could set it up for any kid no matter what the age. After coming across your post I noticed that that I was wrong and you are right. I also like your solution for now. I wanted to encourage you to give Apple feedback about this, as this is a user to user forum and there is no saying wether or not Apple will see your concerns or comments. https://www.apple.com/feedback/
I too will be sending feedback. Once again Thank you for your informative post.

  • Repeated Family Share Approval Request

My son made an in-app purchase approval request from his iPad mini.  It occurred while I was on my MBP Retina, which simultaneously asked for approval and gave an error stating I was unable to approve.  I approved the request, but now my son continues to be prompted to request approval.  Any ideas how to get them to stop?

Thanks.  I did not sign out but as I mentioned I did reset the password. Signing out deletes everything from the device so I held off. It turns out that these folks tried it last fall when it hapened to them and it didn't work:

  • HT201079 So with "Family Share"...you CAN NOT SHARE family purchases but ONLY PAY for family purchases?? Is this correct?

when my husband makes a purchase with family share is the purchase only available to him?

    Hello mklc5209,
I read your post, and it sounds as though you'd like to learn more about Family Sharing. I have linked to an article that will help you do that:
    Family Sharing
All your family’s purchases, on all your family’s devices.
Once you’ve set up Family Sharing, all the songs, albums, movies, TV shows, books, and apps ever purchased by family members are immediately available to everyone else in the group. And, of course, so are new purchases. The content appears automatically in the Purchased tab in iTunes, iBooks, or the App Store for each family member. Just select the family member whose collection you’d like to browse, then download or play the content you choose. Other family members can access your collection in the same way. If you want to keep some purchases private, you can choose to hide individual items.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Family Share - stream videos

Most of our movies have been purchased under one main iTunes account.  We set-up family share in order to "share" purchased videos and music.  How can we stream "shared" movies?  Using the Videos app, I have access to stream purchased videos but not videos that all family share accounts have purchased.  I believe that the family share is set-up correctly… I have access to download i-tunes purchased videos from all accounts in family share just not to stream via Videos app.  For example, my son's iPad can't stream a movie that I purchased via I-tunes; he has to download it.

  • Family share purchase approval not working

We've set up family sharing across 4 iOS devices.  two parents, two children, we've enabled "ask to buy" on the child accounts (ages 13 and 14).  All devices are running the latest version of iOS.  We've set up a credit card for the family organizer.
When one of the children tries to buy something in iTunes or in the App store, they get a message that says that they need to verify their payment info.  If they click on "verify" they get asked to provide a method of payment.  They cannot make purchases using the family organizer's credit card.  I entered the credit card info, and now they are able to make purchases without any approval.
I went into settings on the child phone, pulled up iCloud, and it shows that the organizer's credit card is associated with this family group.
What am I doing wrong?  How do I allow the child accounts to use the family share credit card?

I believe the credit would have to be on his iTunes store account, not yours, in order to be applied to his purchases before any balance due is charged to the organizer's credit card.  Your purchases would be charged to your credit first.

  • Approve purchases- family share with android phone

Our kids have iPods and we have iPads as well.  Our mobile phones are Android based.  I set upfamily sharebut would like to have the ability to approve or decline purchase requests using my android phone.  I know that there isiCloud for Windows but haven't seen anything for Android.  Does anyone know of a way to approve or deny purchases using an Android phone?  Thanks for any help!

According to this site (http://www.bgr.com/2010/11/06/verizon-wireless-testing-sprint-like-70-450-minute-unlimited-plan/), Verizon is coming out with a Family Share Plan with unlimited data & text and 1400 minutes of shared talk time for $139.99 a month.
This is $10 a month higher then Sprint and has 100 fewer shared minutes. It also includes GPS Navigation, Sprint TV and Radio, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile which isn't available with Version. I think Verzon has a navigation and video service but they charge for it.

  • How do i approve my kids app purchases with family share

how do i approve my kids app purchases with family share on my iphone?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
With Family Sharing, you can approve purchases with the Ask To Buy feature. The following article provides helpful information:
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
Approving purchases with Ask to Buy
You can turn on Ask to Buy to require approval for purchases initiated by any family member who is under 18 years old.*
    iOS 8
Tap Settings > iCloud > Family, and tap your family member's name.
    Turn on Ask to Buy.
    OS X Yosemite
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
Click Manage Family and select your family member's name.
    Select Ask to Buy.
Ask to Buy is enabled by default for any children under 13 years old, and can be enabled during the setup process for any children 13-17 years old.* You can't turn on Ask to Buy for adults.
If you don't wish to be billed for purchases initiated by a specific adult family member, you can remove that family member from the family group.
*Ages may vary by country or region.
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing. Content can be hidden by family members; hidden content is not available for download. Content downloaded from family members or acquired via redemption codes is not subject to Ask to Buy.

  • Family Share child purchases surprise!!

So I setup family share for my wife and kids. My 13 year old is all setup with her AppleId and has to ask for purchases off my main account. (App Store is logged in using her Apple ID - no cc)
When she tried to update her apps she was prompt with a notice stating all free apps will be copied to her Apple ID now.. Sure,, makes sense they are free.
For every free app she tried updating and copy to her Apple ID I had to authorize it and enter my password every time. (32 times to be exact! Quite annoying)
All previous apps I made with my Apple ID (which I'm now sharing with my family) she got no prompt and didn't have to ask permission. Weird...
So now the big test came up! Time to try buying an actual app! She picked an app and clicked on buy. She got a prompt stating she needed to ask permission. So she did,,, I got my prompt asking to approve the purchase on my credit card.
Well.. To my surprise.. The purchase ends up being linked to HER AppleId. She bought that app with my approval and my credit card....whattttt? I thought ALL purchases were still going to end up on MY AppleID... This is not at all how I thought this would work... If she disconnects from Family Share I don't have access to that app anymore...even though I bought it. I'd have to purchase it again.....
There really needs to be better documentation on how all of this works and some advanced options settings so that all family share purchases stay on the main AppleID Of whoever paid for it.
I think I'll set the AppStore Apple Id on all my kids devices to mine like I had it setup before ios8. That way all purchases will remain on my AppleId

    Hi there oobeto,
From what you describe it sounds like you may need to invite the 3rd account to join Family Sharing. This section of the following article should help you out:
Start or join a family group using Family Sharing
Invite people to join your family
Use these steps in iOS 8:
Go to Settings > iCloud > Family > Add Family Member.
Enter your family member's name or email address.
Follow the onscreen instructions. After you send the invitation, you can check its status under the person's name in Settings > iCloud > Family.
Use these steps in OS X Yosemite:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
    Click Manage Family.
Click +, then follow the onscreen instructions.
You can also use these steps to create an Apple ID for a child and add them to your family group. When you create an account for a child, you must use a credit card as the payment method as part of providing your parental consent. After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change your payment method back to a debit card if you choose.
    Join a family group
You can accept or decline an invitation to join a family from you iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. If the invitation is sent to your email address, you can also respond right from your email. To accept an invitation in iOS 8, go to Settings > iCloud > Invitations. In OS X Yosemite, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family.  Then follow the onscreen instructions.
Here's what you'll be asked to do when you join:
Confirm your Apple ID and password.
Choose if you want to share your content and which iTunes Store account you want to share from.
Choose if you want to share your location. If you agree, your location can be displayed on family members’ devices in Find My Friends and Messages, and the location of your shared devices will also appear on family members’ devices in Find My iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Family share isn't working - we set it up and it was working fine for a few weeks then in the last few days it's stopped, we can't see the other members in our family share and it says we aren't set up but it doesn't allow us to confirm and reset up

Help!  We set up family share a few weeks ago, and it was working fine with the organizer and two additional members.  The three of us could see each other on app and iTunes stores and could view each other's purchased items.  Then ... All of that disappeared.  We cant see each other's profiles any more and we definitely can't view any purchased items.  In addition, when we try to go in and jump start by downloading a free app or logging out and back of itunes, nothing works.  It seems to show we have family sharing in the iCloud settings, and when we click the Apple ID it asks us to confirm, and we confirm, and are asked if we want to change accounts because then we trigger the 90 day freeze period.  And we aren't changing any accounts - just trying to confirm the same accounts to get family share to work!  We are all on the same ios 8.1.3 and os, so I don't know what else to try!

No, I am a media professional who uses his MacBook Pro to connect to external monitors, and needs to continue to do so.  I don't want Apple TV.  I want my laptop to work again, like it's supposed to.  Like it used to.
I have a demonstration this week at work that requires me to plug into an LCD screen and I am hoping to have this resolved by then.  I am trying to convince my department to buy a Retina Mac and thousands of dollars worth of video software for live shows, and if I can't make it work, then I can't exactly convince them (or myself) to buy what I have been researching.
Again, I don't want wireless video or Apple TV.  I don't want to buy any more stuff.  I want to know why my Thunderbolt to HDMI cable stopped working after my update, and how to fix it...preferably before this meeting.

  • Family share and non itunes purchased music

My wife and I are going to get an ipad mini for the house that we will use for a lot of music storage and entertainment for the house. We have a TON of cd's we purchased back in the day. If I load those into my iTunes, will my wife be able to access that music using family share? Or can you only access music that was purchased? She wants to be able to get that music on her phone.
    Thanks!

Okay, so I did as you said, and tried to remove all music from my iphone, and nothing changed on the phone.  The unplayable music and playlists all still show up and the purchased music is still playable and on the phone despite removing it all.
I just now told it to not sync any music at all (unchecked the larger sync music tab) and for some reason it repeatedly re-checked itself.  After 7 or so attempts I got it to only put on 10 songs (idk why any or even why these particular are on)  but now I'm going to try re-adding songs back on.
YESSSSSSS! IT WORKED!!! GAWAAHAHA FINALLY, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • How do I approve an 'ask to buy' on a family share

How do I find my 'notifications' to approve an 'Ask to buy' from my daughter's profile?

    Hello Shaynn,
If you are the organizer of the Family Share you should see the Ask to Buy request in the Notification Center.
Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
    Make or decline a purchase
If you're the organizer, you can use these steps to make or decline the purchase from your iOS device with iOS 8 or Mac with OS X Yosemite:
Open the notification to see the item that your family member wants to get. (See your notifications on your Mac or iOS device.)
    Approve or decline the purchase.
If you approve, you need to sign in with your Apple ID and password to make the purchase.
After it's purchased, the item is added to the family member’s account and shared with the rest of the family group. If a family member downloads a previous purchase again, downloads a shared purchase, installs an update, or uses a redemption code in the store, the organizer won't get a notification.
If the organizer doesn't make the purchase or decline the request, it will be deleted after 24 hours, and the child will need to make the request again.
So if you are on your iPhone…
You can access Notification Center from any screen, including the Lock screen. Just swipe down from the top of the screen.
