Family Share Organizer, no Request to Purchase notification

Hey guys,
I have recently enabled the family sharing for my family, which includes my two daughters, and claimed myself as the organizer.  Now that the Request to Purchase feature is enabled for my daughters, my wife will receive the notification on her iPhone 6 and her iPad Mini, yet I will not receive the notification on my iPhone 6 or iPad Mini.  This has been the case since the start of the family sharing.
I found my wife and I are both operating on iOS 8.2 for our iPhone 6s, and iOS 8.1.3 for our iPad Mini; our versions and hardware match, exactly, causing me to believe this is more of an issue with my iCloud account or a configuration issue.  The only location that I seem to receive the purchase notifications is my Mac Mini, to which, I usually get the notification much later than when the request is made.
I confirmed my account is the same between iTunes and iCloud settings on both devices, I have power cycled both devices, and I cannot seem to find a forum discussion with a solution.  I cannot help but think I am missing something.

UPDATE: As an act of desperation, I upgrading both my iPhone 6 and iPad Mini to 8.3.  Immediately following, the Request to Purchase notifications started coming through.

  • Family Share Organizer Can't Approve?

I know there's probably an easy solution here...
    I'm the Family Share Organizer
My wife is labeled as Parent/Guardian (under her account the Parent/Guardian toggle is on, mine does not have that toggle)
My three daughters are set up as children with Ask To Buy turned on.
When we try and make a purchase on our daughters' devices, it only asks my wife for permission, not me as the organizer.  Is there a way to ALSO have me (the organizer) flagged as a Parent/Guardian approve?  Seems odd that despite me being the family organizer if my wife is not home I can't approve one of my kids' purchases...
    Thanks for any help.

My family sharing is set up just like yours (three sons instead of daughters LOL). I'm labeled the organizer and do not have a toggle for parent/guardian. However, when they ask to buy we both get a notification.  I rarely accept them, since my husband has his phone more accessible at all times. The few times I've noticed the requests come in, I find that sometimes I can't  find the notification again.
On a side note: I was not aware that each purchase would be billed to my credit card regardless of my iTunes balance. I knew I would be paying for all purchases, but not being able to use my account balance to pay it is extremely annoying. Prior to Family Sharing being available all their devices were under my id. So any gift cards they received were redeemed under my account. Now I have their money and can't use it to buy their things.

  • How to set up myself as family share organizer with my own Apple id when someone else has gotten a new phone and used my Apple ID on it and set up family share for themselves?

its my Apple ID and it's basically been hijacked on a device I dont own and someone else has been set up as family share organizer in my own Apple ID and I can't seem to do anything about it.

You really need to get the apple id straightened out before you start, or you will pay the price forever!   You have a couple of options.  I assume your dad is cooperating with this project.  I think you are probably right about using his apple account.
Make sure you have established the second e mail address and that to works.
Log onto apple.com, and in the upper right, log into the account.  Once in the accout, click on the area where you can change you data, and add the second email address.    Apple wil verify the adress by send it an e mail, and won't do anything further until you respond to an e mail sent to that address, so watch for it.
After the address is verified, on your accout page, make that address your primary address contact from apple.  That way if apple sends confirmations for apps and things, they will go to the new address, and your mom won't see them.  Then set the pad up using the same aple Id as your dad.  Remember, you have not changed the apple id or the password, you have only changed the e mail address for contact.   ( you can change it back after the surprise)
The other suggestion...  I have given a coule of pads to folks, and one of the real fun parts for them and for you is o
Ending the box, and doing the set up.  It is a great way for them to learn enough to use it.  Press the buttons etc.  pick their own apps.  You can gift her all the apps you want, and she can learn how to download them herself.
I gave a pad to mom in law, and did pretty much what you are planning, and at the end of the day, having it all set when she openied it made it harder for her to learn, rather than easier.
But you are doing a god thing, and I am sure she will enjoy the pad.

  • Can a Family Share organizer also be a member of another's Family Share?

IIf I set up Family Share and add members, can a member also set up Family Share and add me as a member?   In other words rather than billing to me for all member purchases and downloads, can their purchases be billed to their acct but share with me?

    Hi Larl1,
no this is not possible, as far as I know. According to the Family Sharing Guide, there is only one family organizer.

  • Family share -how to make individual purchase not using family account

HHow can I make a purchase using my individual iTunes account while family share is active?

    Hey 529mitchell,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! When you make a purchase while family sharing is enabled, the purchase will automatically be billed to the organizer of the family. The only instance that a purchase would be billed to your account is if you redeemed a gift or had a store credit balance. For more information on Family Sharing purchases and payments, see the following:
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support

If you want to revert to making purchases with your individual payment information, you’ll need to leave the family sharing group:

  • Family share approval keeps requesting icloud password

I have Family Sharing set to require my approval when my daughter buys something from the store. Today when I try to approve items it keeps asking me to input my icloud password.
    Sign In To Approve
Enter the iCloud Apple ID password for [icloud email]
When I put it in, the same dialogue box just reopens with no error message.  Today she bought 3 songs. This issue arose and I tried to input my password to no success. I then went to Settings/iCloud and it asked for my Password and there it took. So I went back to the Family Share notifications and 2 went through but when I tried to approve the third it asked for the password again. I tried going back to the iCLoud settings but it doesn't ask for my password. I then actually reset my password to something new but that didn't help either.
I found this article about similar issues in the fall
    http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/29/apple-woes-continue-some-reporting-icloud-down-acr oss-ios-mac-and-web/
And the system status says everything is fine right now:https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.  I did not sign out but as I mentioned I did reset the password. Signing out deletes everything from the device so I held off. It turns out that these folks tried it last fall when it hapened to them and it didn't work:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6569354
It also happens that the same thing is happening on my imac, so it's probably not a hardware issue.

  • Family share purchase request

When my daughter goes to the App Store and requests a purchase the alert comes to my iPad. How can I get it to also come to my phone?

I am having exactly this problem too. I approved 7 requests for songs as normal, and then for the next ones, every time I pressed "details" the box just disappeared. They are still in my notifications centre, but I cannot approve them. Please help!

  • Family share can't open notifications on any machine

My son is sending over family share ask to buy requests and I am unable to open them on any of my devices. Have tried on my iPhone 6, my macbook air and my macbook pro.
What gives?? Frustrated mom and frustrated kiddo here.

I have this issue too, when I first set it all up it was working fine but now only initial app purchase requests are coming through, in-app purchases have this problem now. The text in the menubar of my iPhone/iPad turns black and the screen is unresponsive. It acts as though it's loading the form but never actually does. I have to press the home button to kill non-existent form.
It also amazes me that Apple didn't include this into one of their Apps, or create a new one. I would have made it badge the Settings app like when there are software updates, then when you open Settings there is a number next to the iCloud section, that leads you to the purchase request. Putting it in Notification center is fine but honestly, who really uses that thing? It was the last place I looked for the "missing" requests and tapping them still did nothing.
I've always loved Apple but as of late they've turned into a "New Features!" shop and not a "Fix bugs, release quality" shop. It's sad really...

  • Family Share Approve a Purchase Never Works

My daughter and I have been working with the new Family Sharing feature, me as organizer and her, as child requiring approval. We are both on iOS8 devices. She can initiate a request to purchase a song, and I receive the notice. However, when I click approve, I am prompted to enter my Apple ID password. I enter my password and then it closes momentarily, then prompts me again. It seems like it will even ask for my TouchID sometimes, but then it goes back to password.
No matter how many times I iterate it never works and I just have to cancel to move on with my life. We've tried this numerous times and still no luck. I'd like to believe it won't be this hard. More importantly, I hope I can just use my TouchID for approval because I use a strong password and this will get old very quickly. If it ever works, that is....

Just tested it out and exactly the same problem. On the Yosemite beta I click the notification and a window pops up but the approve button doesn't do anything. On the iPhone clicking the notification brings up a white screen with cancel in the top left. It seems as though its loading but never gets there so I have to cancel

  • Do Family Share purchase receipts show who initiated the purchase?p

IF I am the family organizer, do the receipts for purchases made by others indicate who made those purchases?

I spent last night testing out a few things and seem to have everything up and running correctly.  Here's how I have set up family sharing.
    1) Parent has Owner account with credit card info.  Uses "original" AppStore account (Apple ID) for purchases - call this account "A"
    2) Invite kids to join family from Account A - Make sure to turn on Ask to Buy.
    3) Kids Accept from their iDevices the invite while logged in to their Apple ID account - call these Accounts "B" and "C"
    4) When kids accept and set up their AppStore ID on their device and follow the setup they use their Apple ID ("B" and "C") not the Owner account "A"
    5) Test with a purchase from the kids device. This purchase can be a free item.
    6) A pop up notification will show stating that permission must be granted
    7) Owner iDevice receives notification and can now accept or decline the purchase.  This notification shows up in the Notification section iDevice.
Where I went wrong originally is that I had the kids family share AppStore ID as the Owner account A apple Id although they accepted and where logged in with their Apple ID B and C.  Why did I have it this way - I have always purchased everything from the Owner ID for all of our devices and kept my contacts, mail, messages etc. separate by using a second Apple ID for the Owner's private items.
Hope this helps to fix your issues.

  • Family share not receiving notification as organiser

I have Iphone 4 and my son who is 12 just got iPod touch. I set up family sharing on his ipod. He is getting notification 'ask to buy" when downloading apps but I as organiser am NOY getting notification. Presume this is because I have iPhone 4. Cannot delete my son from family share as under 13 PLEASE help my son very disappointed he cany download apps or music!!!!

I have the same problem but I am using an iMac as the organizer. My daughters new iPod does prompt her to ask to buy which she clicks ask but I never get notified. I opened a case with support and they said its a known issue they are working on but I have my doubts they will be very helpful.

  • Family share purchase not applied toward itunes gift card credit

I'm using the icloud family share program for my family.  My son has purchased some songs on itunes but my credit card is being billed instead of the credit balance I have on my shared itunes account.  Has anyone else had this same problem and how did you resolve it?

I believe the credit would have to be on his iTunes store account, not yours, in order to be applied to his purchases before any balance due is charged to the organizer's credit card.  Your purchases would be charged to your credit first.

  • Approve purchases- family share with android phone

Our kids have iPods and we have iPads as well.  Our mobile phones are Android based.  I set upfamily sharebut would like to have the ability to approve or decline purchase requests using my android phone.  I know that there isiCloud for Windows but haven't seen anything for Android.  Does anyone know of a way to approve or deny purchases using an Android phone?  Thanks for any help!

According to this site (http://www.bgr.com/2010/11/06/verizon-wireless-testing-sprint-like-70-450-minute-unlimited-plan/), Verizon is coming out with a Family Share Plan with unlimited data & text and 1400 minutes of shared talk time for $139.99 a month.
This is $10 a month higher then Sprint and has 100 fewer shared minutes. It also includes GPS Navigation, Sprint TV and Radio, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile which isn't available with Version. I think Verzon has a navigation and video service but they charge for it.

  • Where is my purchase information for my personal account, even though I have been added to family share? I don't want all purchases I make to go through the family share account.

I made a recent app purchase, but the payment was declined because the purchase was attached to the family share plan. I made the purchase on my own account, and didn't know that purchases I make would now be associated with the purchase information provided for the family share. I like being on the family share, but is there a way I can purchase apps and other things through itunes using my own personal purchase methods?

is there a way I can purchase apps and other things through itunes using my own personal purchase methods?
    Theaternerd,
If you keep a credit balance on your own account, any purchase will be deducted from your credit balance instead of being charged to the Family Organizer's credit card.
To keep a credit balance, just buy and redeem iTunes gift cards to your account.

  • Is there a log of Family Share Requests

I am trying to figure out if there is a log of the family share requests, so that I can review them. I am finding requests are coming in and then being removed, but there is no way of tracking what was done. There is no app for it, and I am not sure where to go except notification center.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi again Christiaan, I'd be wary of upgrading your server just for this feature. This article mentions the pitfalls of the different server setups, loss of server preferences when upgrading etc...
The benefits of having file and folder creation/deletion logged could be easily outweighed by the loss of auto setup of users mail and the other features that 'just work' in a standard install.
    Cheers
