Family shareplan upgrade

I have 5 lines on a family shareplan. The main number contract expires in 8/11. Theother 4 lines expire before that. One line is eligible for an upgrade now but I do not want to lock in to another 2 years because of the mandatory data plan which we do not use. I am thinking of waiting until 8/11 and switching servicer. However, my daughters env2 is acting up -dropped calls, shutting off, not sending messages etc and I would like to change that phone. If I obtain a phone on my own and activate it, will I be subject to the mandatory data plan or is it phone dependent ie activate another env2 vs an env3 ? Any other options anybody can think of?
Thank you

You can swap a phone you either purchase at full retail price or from a source other than Verizon at any time without affecting your contract.
The mandatory data "feature" is indeed dependent on the type of phone.  Since the enV3, with what Verizon claims are amazing web use capabilities, is a "3GMM" phone, it will require a data plan if you activate it.  An enV2, however, since it was released before January 18, 2010, will not require a data plan.

  • Add smartphone to America's Choice Family SharePlan?

I'm currently one of three members of an America's Choice Family SharePlan 700 that has gone off-contract.  All lines are currently basic phones.
I'd like to upgrade my line to a subsidized smartphone.  The other members will probably want to wait.
What are my options in terms of the plan, and what's the most cost-effective, assuming that I only need 2 GB of data?  I assume I can either add data to my line or convert to a Share Everything plan?  How would the costs compare?
Also, is there a possible issue of flexibility?  We may want to add a fourth line to the plan, and other members may also want to upgrade to smartphones within the next year or so.
    Thanks for any advice.

Those plans went a way a long time ago. So I'm not sure what changes you can make on them if any. What exactly do you have on that plan and what are the costs not counting taxes, fees etc.
A Share Everything plan with 2 basic phones and 1 smartphone with 2 GB data would be $160 not counting taxes and fees or taking into account any employee discount you may have, if any. Converting those 2 basic phones into smartphone would be $10 per phone per month extra. Any data you may want to add would be $10 per 2 GB though you are not required to add any. Adding a 4th line would be $30 for a basic phone or $40 a month for a smart phone. Once again you can add data or not add data.
On old plans data plans are mandatory for each smartphone and those are a minimum of $30 a month and give you 2 GB.

  • Family Plan Upgrade

I currently have a droid and I will be adding a line and upgrading to a family shareplan. I currently can not get a new phone on my exsisiting plan but does this reset when i upgrade to a family shareplan? I really would like to get a droid x.

The contract dates for your current line will be unaffected by the addition of another line to your plan and your change to a Family share plan.
The new line will be able to purchase a phone at subsidized pricing, but your line's upgrade eligibility date will remain the same.

  • Using a Family Members upgrade

Ok so i know this has been asked before and I think I get the gist of it. I currently have the Dinc and am giving it to my bro for his upgrade. My Dinc has insurance and unlimited data. I know I will have to activate it on his line before mine. My question is if I choose to add insurance (and of course the data plan) to his line, will the phones both still have valid insurance even though they switched lines?

  • IPhone5 Preorder Family Members Upgrade

    Hi all,
As everyone knows the iPhone 5 is now available for pre-order, only problem is I have one more year till I can upgrade for the price of $200 with my carrier AT&T.  However, a family member of mine has an upgrade and said I could use theirs, so that is the route I am considering.
    So my question is...
Could I order a new phone online, imputing their number as the phone to be upgraded and when it arrives just put my sim card in it?? Will it work like that or do I have to go to an AT&T retail store and do it?
Any help will be great, Thanks

  • Change family shareplan

I have the AC family shareplan with 700 and two phone lines. i would like to change my family shareplan to 1400 and add a line so that would be 3 phones sharing 1400 . Would it be cheaped to go with talk or talk&text plan . My daughter has a pay as you go phone (t-moblie) and it seems that we are buying her a call for the phone alot. She texts alot so would 1400familyplan talk & text be a good plan or advice for the best family share plan that is going to not cost that much  and if I change my plan and add a line could I use the phone she has or buy one from verizon.

Your America's Choice plan is an older "grandfathered" plan.  If you need more then 700 minutes, you will HAVE to move to one of the current Talk or Talk & Text plans, and you will lose your ability to switch back to the AC plan.  This is how it works with all grandfathered plans, you can keep them as long as you stay with them, but once you switch away, they are gone.
It's impossible to say what the best plan will be unless we know your usage.  Now would be a good time to log in to MyVerizon and view your usage for the past few months, you should also look at your daughter's account to see how many minutes/texts she is using.  If you can give us an idea of what your needs are, we can suggest a plan, or you can call in to Verizon and have them walk through your options with you.
T-Mobile phones used GSM technology, and Verizon phones are CDMA, so you will not be able to use her current phone on Verizon.  When you add her line to your Family Plan, you will have the option of signing a new contract and getting a subsidized phone for her at that time.

  • Upgrading via another family members upgrade

Sorry if this was already asked/answered... just need clarification.
I am not eligibile for an upgrade until July.... however another line on our family plan is.  Couldn't we go through the normal upgrade process, for the line that is due, on the 3rd.. i.e. order the iphone on that number... but when it comes, activate the iphone on my number and not the other?
    Can I do that?
If I did do that... would my upgrade on 7/11 be changed then?

From another thread that is still on this page. Just saw this.
During the preorder for the iphone you will not have to select " Alternate Upgrade". You will have to select the line that is eligible for the upgrade. During the upgrade process you will have to select the data package that fits your needs. Once you receive the device and activate it you may then swap the ESN to the line of your choice. To swap the ESN to your device contact our customer service team. View the frequently asked questions for more information on the iphone http://support.vzw.com/faqs/iphone/iphone_faq.html

Do you know if the phone that had the upgrade is needed during this process? I will be using my dad's upgrade, but he is going to be gone all of next month so his phone won't be available to me. He'd kill me if all of a sudden his phone wasn't working anymore when he's out of town!

  • USING OTHER FAMILY ACCT UPGRADE AND TRANSFERRING TO MY PHONE #

    Sharing Upgrade Question
    Hi all,
A family member was eligible for upgrade 1/20/11 we are on different accounts.  He has a simple standard phone but i wanted to get another phone he has let me use his upgrade which changed his plan  to include a data plan.
in order to actually order the phone  I wanted which i know can later be changed back to his original plan.
What steps are going to have to happen for me to activate the new phone under my phone number?  Does he have to do it under his contract  and is this going to require having to call CS? If he does call CS can he just let them know he decided to give me the phone and let me activate in under my phone number?
I know this void the warranty..
    Thanks
    Have a nice da!

Do i have to have both phones in my possession in front of me.Your family member (with the upgrade) will need to have his phone and the iPhone with him.  First, he will activate the iPhone on his line to accept the terms of the contract.  He MUST do this, or he could be charged full price for the phone.  Once it is activated, the contract has been accepted, so he can then re-activate his old phone on his line.  Re-activating his old phone will release the iPhone to be used on another line.
Do i have to call into CS? If i call into CS can't I just let them know he didn't want the phone so i want to activate it to my phone number instead. You do not have to call into CS.  Dialing *228 and choosing option 1 will put you into the automated activation system.  If your activation has a problem, you will automatically be connected to CS so they can finish the process.  You CANNOT call CS and tell him "he doesn't want the phone."  As the account owner, HE has to accept the 2-year contract by activating the phone on his line first before it can be used on another line.
The thing is I won't have his phone availabe to me as i will be at work and he will be somewhere else. You don't need to have his phone, but he does need to have the iPhone briefly to activate it on his line.  Then he can give it to you to activate on your line.
Sorry for all the confusion but if i can transfer and have the new phone that i ordered with me while temporaily activating it then transferring it over to my number while the family member has his phone whereever he may be would be great if not i will have to wait to activate it when all the phones can be together. Thank you every1 that has responded and sorry for all the confusion.

  • Family Plan upgrade question

I currently have a family share plan with 5 lines.  None of the 5 phones are smartphones.  2 of the lines/phones currently have the $10/month unlimited data package (LG Voyager phone).  Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package
We were in a store and it was difficult to get a clear answer.  It seemed that once one phone goes to the $30/month data plan then all other phones must have a $30/month plan as well.  Also, they implied we could no longer be on the same family share plan (700 minutes, unlimited text).  Perhaps I mis-interpreted what they were saying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ahhh, the old Connect/Select plan, where you could get the unlimited on 3G phones for $10 a month....unfortunately, those days, and that plan is long gone.    Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package  Yes.
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package  No.  The new plans/phones do not allow this.  Your plan will be changed to the current Talk & Text (equivalent of the Select) with unlimited texting on all lines.  You can add a $10 data package for a feature phone, but it will have a limit of 75 MB.
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package No - same as above.
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package Yes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure that' s what you wanted to hear, but it is likely what you will be facing.  There's a possibility you can keep what you have if you get all feature phones, but upgrading any of the lines to a smartphone will force a plan change to the Talk & Text, since the smartphone doesn't play nice with the old Connect/Select plans.

  • Family Plan Upgrade to New Phones/Activation

    Hi,
My mom is the primary line for our family plan. We have 3 other lines besides hers in the plan. All the phonelines are eligible for upgrades right now, but my mom's line has an extra $50 dollars off upgrade discount.
My question is, if my mom's line is upgraded to a certain phone, does that certain phone have to be activated using her phone number, or could I activate her phone and use it with my phone number?
Reason being is, she doesn't want a fancy phone but her line has nicer phones to upgrade to since she has the $50 discount. I was wondering if she could upgrade to that phone, but then if I could activate it using my phone number (so in effect the phone would actually be mine without my phone number having to change)?
    Thanks,
    MM
Oh I was also wondering, when it says "Data Pack required" for a phone that I want to upgrade to, do I have to get a data pack in order to upgrade to the phone or get one after upgrading to the phone? Can I just upgrade to the phone without using data or getting a data pack?

My question is, if my mom's line is upgraded to a certain phone, does that certain phone have to be activated using her phone number, or could I activate her phone and use it with my phone number?  Yes, you can do this.  If you order in-store or over the phone, just explain what you want to do to the rep and they will take care of it.  If you order online, have your Mom click on the "transfer upgrade" button next to her line and that will start the process.

Note that any phone that is eligible to upgrade can purchase any of the phones that Verizon currently offers at the 1 or 2 year contract price.  The only difference in what is available to your Mom's line is the $50 credit ON TOP of the reduced contract price.
    Thanks,

You must have a data package active on the line that the phone is active on at all times.  When you activate the phone on any line, you will be automatically prompted to select an appropriate data package,

  • Alltel Smartpack vs. Verizon Family Shareplan

Anyone know what the difference is?
Currently on a SmartPack 1200, and i have my account set to upgrade to the 2000 next billing cycle. Went to Best Buy tonight to look at the incredible 2 for $1, and they were going to force us to switch to the SharePlan 2000. We would keep our unlimited data, but would switch to the verizon plan instead of alltel.
Anyone know the difference? Pricing seemed about the same I believe. I just don't want to switch to find out we're going to lose some of the old school fringe alltel benefits, etc.

I would think the big difference would be price. What is the base rate for the plan you are on?
VZW 2000 $99.98 for 2 lines (Without messaging and data)
Nights and weekends will be 9pm vz 7pm with the Alltel plan.
You get 10 F&F with the 2000 plan. I am wondering if you have more with the plan you have now. I have the 500 Smartpack plan from Alltel and I have 12 F&F.
One thing with going with a 3rd party reseller, they can not in most cases not keep you on an Alltel plan and VZW will not switch ya back as once an Alltel plan is off the account, it can not be put back.
You will need to determine if the money saved on the phones will offset the price difference of the plans.

  • Splitting Family Plan upgrades

I have a couple of questions about upgrading a Family Plan and all of our phones.
I am the primary line and am interested in upgrading to the Iphone.  Can the loyalty credit be applied to the Iphone or is it an exclusion?
Second, can I upgrade my phone and renew my contract today and still maintain discounted pricing for the secondary lines?  The reason is I would like to upgrade now, but hold off a couple of weeks to get my daughter a new phone for her birthday.
    thanks for any advice!

  • MobileMe family force upgrade to iCloud

When I updated to iOS 5 I upgraded my Mobile Me account to iCloud. It warned me that I would not be able to manage the other accounts associated with the MobileMe family account which was fine. It did NOT warn me that the other memebers of my family would not be able to use their accounts unless they upgraded. Is there any way to let them continue using Snow Leopard and iOS 4? There are software reasons to keep them on the older OSes.

    forand wrote:
... The other accounts are for my other family members, not extra email addresses I added to my MobileMe account. They are full accounts, or where under MobileMe.
Ok, I get that ( I never used MM so I don't know it's features or how the accounts are used ) .
The fact remains that icloud will only work with a single Apple-ID. Of course every member of your family could log in to www.icloud.com and move his/her old ID to become a icloud ID - but the whole syncing features will just be pointless. Everybody in your family then must own his/her own iOS5 device, as iOS5 is no "multi-user" system.
Also in order to sync more then one iOS5 device ( and/or to a Mac or PC ) all these devices and computers need to be singed in with one and the same Apple-ID or there simply is no syncing at all happening. This would limit icloud to be just backups of the account data to the cloud.

  • Forefeit Free 4G LTE Double Data for Family Plan Upgrade?

I am currently on a Family Share plan with 4 total lines, two smartphones and two flip phones.  One smartphone currently has the unlimited data plan, and my own Droid Razr has 4GB data plan, which was doubled from 2GB for free as part of Verizon's extended promotion of 4G LTE devices.
One of the flip phone lines will soon be upgrading to a smartphone.  The Verizon store associate advised us that when this happens, our family plan will convert to the new structure.  Generally speaking,  for our situation, I find the new data plan structure attractive.  My sister makes no use of her unlimited data plan, and those other data hogs are what's driving up the costs of plans for more conservative users like us.  However, the associate also indicated that under the new plan, I'd be forfeiting the 2GB I currently receive for free.  I tend to use between 2-3 GB per cycle, so this is obviously a concern and going to cost us substantially more money under the new plan.  With our plan, I'll effectively be paying $120 more per year for data that I was told would be free.
Given that the double data promotion was a significant factor in my purchase decision, and that it's only be a few months since I renewed my contract under those terms, it seems unreasonable that this promotion isn't extended to the new plans.  Furthermore, the new plans are structured to offer data in 2GB increments, so it should not be difficult (as it would be with the unlimited plan) to simply add 2 free GB to our new family plan.
Was the store associate correct about this change?  If so, how is it fair to a longstanding customer to offer a bait-and-switch style promotion?  Is Verizon going to keep changing plan structures and ripping off customers lured in by assurances of free data?

in my opinion, he was incorrect. i "think" that you can upgrade the flip phone to a smartphone and that line would just select the individual tiered plan of $30 for 2 gigs. that is the way i understand it. of course, i could be wrong. the following is from there own website and i read as the current plans will still be available, and really, the only thing completely going away are the grandfathered, unlimited plans.
You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.
