Family sharing 1 single icloud

Hi !
We have 3 devices, each are connected to the same Icloud account for backup, photostream and Locate my Iphone(IOS 7). But each device is using his own Itunes/App Store account for purchase.
With the family sharing, each member will need to connect to his own Icloud for backup, because I can't add family member since it told me that we are already part of the family. But I cannot see others persons purchases with the current method.
Do connecting each device to his own Icloud service will allow me to add family member and start sharing music and others with the family?

Hello there, jfmapplesupport.

  • Should ID for family sharing be iCloud or App store ID?

As i prepare to set up family sharing between my wife and i I find it seems to be more complex than I had expected. We each have an ID for iCloud, and for the iOS app store for a total of four ids. That system was forced on us by the way the system evolved.
The problem - if family sharing is iCloud based do I set it up using my iCloud ID or my App store ID? The apps are registered to the App store ID not the iCloud ID.  Similarly should it be my wife's iCloud or App store ID that is invited. Since she is signed into the app store with the app store ID will the app store see purchases shared with the iCloud ID.
I guess I could try trial and error, but there is a limited number of resets allowed. I have already learned we shouldn't both set up Family sharing on our iOS devices One has to be the inviter, the other the invitee.
I am beginning to think this may not be so useful.

I went into iCloud, signed out and then signed back in and it corrected the problem.

  • How can I share my itunes music over family sharing on icloud?

I have two iphone 5S phone one is for work, I just enabled by family sharing option for iCloud. Is there anyway I can access my itunes with my work phone without having to sync to my personal macbook pro?

    Hello there Frank_0721,
If I understand correctly you are wanting to download your iTunes purchases that you have on one of your iPhones to your other iPhone. You can get them downloaded with the following article once you are signed into the same account on both devices which it will walk you through:
    Download past purchases
If you have an iCloud account and you want to sync your Calendars, Contacts, etc. use this resource to get signed into icloud on both devices:

  • Can you do family sharing of icloud drive storage?

I'd like to use icloud drive. 20GB is barely enough, and the next step is 200GB which is way more than I need. I'd like to effectively share that 200GB with the rest of the family (4 of us). Is there a way I can partition the 200GB amongst the family members so each effectively sees their own icloud drive?

    Hi Mick_M,
Thanks for the question. At this time, iCloud Storage upgrades are not shareable via iCloud Family Sharing. For more information on what purchases are eligible for Family Sharing, see this document:

  • Previously everyone in my family shared my iCloud account info. How do I upgrade to Family Sharing?

I'm the only person with an iCloud (iTunes) password. Is everyone required to have an iCloud password under family sharing?
What steps do I need to take to upgrade everyone to Family Sharing?

    Hey Ben Sharpton1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are the only one who had an Apple ID and want to start a family group with multiple people using only one Apple ID. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Family Sharing when having different accounts for purchasing and iCloud

I have two Apple ID accounts. One that I use for making iTunes purchases (which I had way before @me.com or @icloud.com existed) and the new @icloud.com account that I use for everything iCloud related (Messages, backups, etc).
Now that Family Sharing exists, I want to bring my kids and my wife into the plan, but from what I've seen, I wouldn't be able to use my icloud.com address since all my purchases are on the other Apple ID. The problem is that either I would need to stop using my icloud.com ID or purchase everything again?
I know one of the most requested features has been to be able to merge accounts and I know I am not the only one in this situation. Is there a way in iOS 8 Family Sharing to do just that? I wouldn't mind removing my old Apple ID account as long as I can transfer all my purchases to the new icloud.com ID.
Otherwise, I guess Family Sharing is out for me (and for everyone who is on the same boat of having 2 different Apple IDs).

Ok teach me to believe stuff I read on the Internet!! But I did get it to work.
So how in effect it is not working much differently to the old way under ios7 that worried me when iTunes Match was going to use "icloud" and not my existing Apple ID. But as we all found out we could use our @me.com or @icloud.com address for all they syncing stuff and then further down there was an option for your iTunes store account where most of us used our old iTunes Store account.
So after reading this thread and many similar articles on new family sharing I thought we may have the same issue, but it seems we are ok.
    How I did it:
    1) Set up Family Sharing,
    2) when asked for AppleID enter my @me.com address and password
    3) click next, it asks what AppleID to use for Store purchases for the family, here I entered my old store id which is so old is actually just a username.
    4) confirm payment card
This seems to have worked, my purchases through AppStore are still made through my old id and all family purchases will be made through that id too.
But as far as my family are concerned @me.com addy is the organiser.
I have yet to set up family members but I trust Apple that it will work they haven't let me down yet (apart from the mucking around with Photostream that they seem to have done).
Also you can check in your settings whether it is set up correctly, go to Family Sharing via icloud settings, click on your name as organiser, it should show what AppleID your family purchases are made through, mine shows my normal AppStore ID, when I get home I'll upload some screenshots (once edited out my details!)

  • Can I use family sharing without a credit card

I want to set up family sharing in iCloud between my account and my dad's since we have separate accounts. Problem is, one of them needs a credit card and my sister tends to make purchases from iTunes cards that weren't for her. Can I set up family sharing without using a credit card? I have a friend who used his parents credit card and one day, they got a $500 bill from iTunes on purchases they didn't make. The account was hacked somehow and the last thing my parents need is to have one of their cards hijacked again.

Apple suggests that in this case you add with a credit card then switch back: Start or join a family group using Family Sharing - Apple Support
"When you create an account for a child, you must use a credit card as the payment method as part of providing your parental consent. After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change your payment method if you choose."
Annoying, but presumably there are technical constraints that make this difficult. I hope they'll fix at some point but this at least means I can set it up. I don't use a credit card but I have one around that I can use to at least set up the accounts.

  • Family sharing data needs to be changed

An apple id has been set up for my child, but the incorrect birthdate was mistakenly entered.  As the adult, I am trying to set up Family Sharing on icloud, and it shows my child listed as an adult.  How do I change the birthdate to reflect he is a child?  When I log in as his apple id, and go to the "password and security" section, I answer the security questions.  When I go down the the "select your birthdate" section, and try to change it to the correct date, hit save, an error says "You cannot change your birthdate at this time".  I have logged out and logged back in a few times to try again, to no avail.  How can this be corrected?

Try changing it to 1/1/2001.  That particular date tends to be accepted, and will convert it to a child ID.  I'm not sure why Apple isn't allowing people to enter the correct birthdate.

  • How do i set up family sharing?

My phone isn't allowing me to set up a family sharing account with my family. The message keeps popping up saying that "only an adult with a valid iTunes & App Store payment method can set up Family Sharing. Ask a parent to set up Family Sharing from iCloud Settings." I am the parent of the family, therefore why is it not allowing me to create the account?

    Hi jas717,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
Because there are only two of you, the solution that I may recommend for sharing content would be to use one Apple ID (the one you already have) for iTunes and App Store purchases between both of you. This will allow the both of you have access to the same purchased content. If you would like to have different Contacts, Calendars, etc., you can create a second Apple ID for use with iCloud. This will allow you both to have separate iCloud information but still have access to all purchased content from iTunes and the App Store.
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
Use one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store purchases
You can use different Apple IDs for iCloud and Store purchases and still get all of the benefits of iCloud.
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
When you first set up your device with iOS 5 or later, enter the Apple ID you want to use with iCloud. If you skipped the setup assistant, sign in to Settings > iCloud and enter the Apple ID you’d like to use with iCloud.
In Settings > iTunes and App Stores, sign in with the Apple ID you want to use for Store purchases. You might need to sign out first to change the Apple ID.
If I have misunderstood the situation or you are still curious about Family Sharing, please refer to the attached article for information on how to set up and use Family Sharing.

  • Child's ipod not showing family members in family sharing

My son (age 9) just got an iPod touch. I set him up with an Apple ID as a child. And I set up family sharing so he can access my apps and music. He shows up under family sharing in iCloud for me and i can see his purchases, but when i go under purchases on his iPod, I don't show up. In fact, nothing does, not even his own purchases. Any thoughts on why this might be? I've tried logging in and out of the app store, itunes and icloud. I've also tried reseting the ipod.

  • Having problems with family sharing invites

Hi, I send the invite to my son, which appears in his email, but when he views the invite it does not come up with the option to accept or decline and is therefore unable to join?

Set the iTunes login and password and the e-mail addresses on the iPad iCloud setup to the same as the owner of the Family Sharing and iCloud account, which in this case is you.

  • Unable to see any purchases in Family Sharing

I know iOS8 is completely new, but has anybody messed with Family Sharing yet? I set it up, and invited my husband. We both have "share purchases" turned on, the credit card is set up fine. On my iPad, if I go to the Purchased link in the App Store, it says "to start sharing purchases, finish setting up family sharing in iCloud" where iCloud is linked. I click on that, it brings me back to the Family Sharing preferences, and it's completely unclear what else isn't set up. I read through the few Apple FAQs on this specifically Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing and If you don't see your family's shared content and neither helps. I looked through iBooks and Music as well, and still don't see his purchases anywhere (there's no link or anything to his purchases like there's supposed to be).

    Hi all,
i had the same problem but have FIXED IT!
Once you have set it up you then have to go back into setting and iCloud on all family devices and click on your name, it will prompt you to enter your Apple ID password. Once you do that on all devices, it then works fine. When you go into the iTunes store, App Store or iBooks, you will see in the Purchased section your family members. Apple could have explained this better. They finally explained it at this link: If you don't see your family's shared content

  • Family sharing two separate iTunes accounts

My husband and I have separate iTunes accounts from before we were married, and we have maintained separate accounts because we could not figure out a way to merge them.  This means that we frequently have to buy the same app twice in order to have it on both our devices.  Is is possible to merge these separate accounts through family sharing, or must we be forced to choose one family head (and loose all content on the other).  Home sharing doesn't work because he is active duty and we are often in separate locations.

    Hey Tsumommy,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Family Sharing was created for this exact situation. Allowing family members to share music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps from their individual Apple ID accounts. As long as both of your accounts have the same payment information, you should be good to go. Setting up family sharing won’t force you to use one account, nor will it cause you to lose all of those great purchases from the other account(s).

Being a family pays off in huge new ways.
Once you set up Family Sharing, family members get immediate access to each other’s music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps. Download what you want with a tap anytime you like. All without having to share an Apple ID or passwords.

  • Leaving family sharing

Anyone know how to turn off family sharing in iOS 8 or remove a family member or remove the shared payment method?

  • HT204284 Does a single iCloud account get shared across all Apple IDs that are joined in Family Sharing?

I have an iCloud account on my AppleID and I have family sharing activated that links me with my wife's AppleID over all our devices.
I Am signed into my AppleID on my devices (iMac and iPhone) and my wife is signed into her AppleID on her devices (iPad and iPhone). I thought that family sharing would have allowed us to share an iCloud account so that we can share our photo album that is stored there. My wife's devices are not giving her access to the iCloud account on my AppleID though.
    Any clues?

    Greetings pbick,
I am sorry I did not make myself better understood. The article itself states that.
    Mac with OS X Yosemite
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family and click the Add button (+).
Select "Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account" and click Continue.
Enter your child's birthday and click Next. The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.
