Family Sharing and Individual Purchases (Suggestions)

I have recently updated to iOS 8, as i am sure many others or perhaps millions have done as well. Me and my other half tried the family share option and it works for the most part very well, BUT... We seriously think it is lacking a few options for granularity.
regardless of who the organizer is the option of who'c Billing information to use for purchases should be selectable and not just limited to the organizer Below are some of our suggestions for Apple....
Suggestions
For instance if my wife and I are on the Family Share we should have the following options:
1) A way for identifying a family share member as parent or child (Child being no older than 21)  this will help establish groups
2) Family members should be presented with an option to use their own payment method associated with their individual iTunes Account (as default method).
     a)  If wife is Organizer i shouldn't be forced to have my purchases paid for from her account when i have my own payment info for my own iTunes account.
     b)  Any child on the family share who have their own banking information on file for their account should be presented with a choice to use their own payment
information or request authorization from parents to have them (the parent approving the purchase) pay for purchase. Depending on which parent approves
the request would determine which parent would be responsible for his/her child's iTunes purchase.
     c) If Child has no method of payment on their iTunes account then any purchase request would automatically be routed to the parents to request purchase
           authorization
By having a msg such as "Request for purchase authorization sent to parent/guardian" (or something along those lines) it would still allow the parents to be anonymous as to who authorized the purchase for the child. Family members of Divorced Parents (further suggestions)
For Children of divorced parents this would also allow the flexibility, from their point of view, to still have mom or dad play a role in the purchasing decision.
     d)  Children 21 and younger should also have the ability to be part of, no more than, 2 family share plans while parents can only be assigned to 1 family share plan Example of the two different groups a child may belong to..
          a) Plan 1 - (Home A) Father / Step Mother (assuming both parents have remarried)
          b) Plan 2 - (Home B) Mother / Step Father (assuming both parents have remarried)
When child is at "Home A" family from Home B can still authorize his purchase in the event the Parents from Home A do not approve it.
Last but not least - Approval request sent from children to parents have a expiration time of 15 minutes meaning if the request is not acknowledge / approved after 15 minutes a message could be sent to requestor indicating "...request has timed out due to no response..."
Conclusion
These are some suggestions that we feel will make Family Share Plan more usefully to parents of children and to accommodate one of many different family situations.

Carlton,
Family Sharing works best when there is an adult (the "organizer") who is paying for the purchases of one or more kids.
What you are describing might work if you always make sure to have a credit balance on your account.  However, the situation would work more smoothly if you each buy your own stuff and use Home Sharing rather than Family Sharing.

  • Family Sharing and free apps - add to my own purchase history?

Hi, my wife has a collection of free iPhone apps on her Apple ID's purchase history.
We have set up Family Sharing, and all is working well - we can share and install each other's apps.
However, is there a way to add free apps she has previously downloaded on her own account to my own purchase history too? For example, she has Apple's 'Remote' app on her account, and it would be nice to know it was also attached to my own purchase history - however, when I download it, I get the message telling me it is linked to her account under family sharing.
Is there any way to download it to my own account so it shows in both of our purchase histories?

  • Family sharing and iTunes Allowances

My daughter is on family sharing so that she can access music she purchased on my account before she had her own account AND I have created an iTunes allowance for her for new purchases to limit her spending on her account. Should her new purchases come FIRST from her allowance instead of my card? So far all her purchases are being charged to my card. Her allowance does show up on her account, so I know her account has been properly credited with the funds. Is there a better way to give her access to previously purchased music/apps on my account (without giving her access to my credit card)? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi yosemitedoran,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If I'm understanding your question ... your daughter has two different Apple ID's?  If so, she can't use iTunes Allowances on the Apple ID she is using for Family Sharing.

One adult in the family—the family organizer—can set up Family Sharing for the group. Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards.

  • Family sharing and iTunes credit

    hi all,
my partner has set up family sharing and I have joined it. I understand that one credit card is used for all members (although I think this somewhat daft). My problem is that I only ever really use iTunes vouchers. I have just trie to purchase a film and it is telling me the family sharing organiser needs to authorise my purchases for the joint payment method. Firstly I don't want to use the joint payment method, my iTunes credit covers the cost and secondly I don't want to have to wait for someone to accept something every time I want to make a purchase, but I do want to share my puchases. Is there any way around this and when she accepts it is it going to use my store credit?
    thank you for your comments.

This is my account info for iTunes & AppStore:
This is the payment info in iCloud Family Sharing settings:
Obviously I was able to change the payment info in iTunes/App Store. What do I have to do to make that carry over to iCloud?

  • How can I use Family Sharing for Store purchases if I use a different Apple ID for purchases?

A key feature of Apple's iCloud Family Sharing is the ability to share store purchases with invited family members. However, like many people, I use a different Apple ID for iCloud and Store purchases (ironically, primarily for the exact purpose of sharing among family).
Can I use iCloud Family Sharing to share purchases if I use a different Apple ID for Store (iTunes, App Store, etc.) purchases?

Sorry, let me clarify. I have two Apple IDs A and B:
A: Used for iCloud. All my calendar, mail, contacts, and other iCloud features are here. This is the ID I use as "the" iCloud on my iOS devices and OS X machines.
B: Used only for purchases, on all my devices and machines. This is what I used to log into iTunes, or to buy apps for iOS or OS X.
The issue is that the only way (currently) to set up Family Sharing is to invite from an iCloud ID (A, in my case) on an iOS 8 device. That's not the ID (B) I use for purchases. The question is whether there's a way to share those purchases given that I'm configured on all my devices with A for iCloud. (Clearly if I somehow send invitations from B, I can share purchases; but that's not the question.)
It sounds like the answer to that question is 'No'.
If that's the case, how do I invite from B? Do I have to configure an iOS device with B as the iCloud ID? My problem isn't that I want to ("willy nilly") avoid inviting form B; it's that there seems to be no way (certainly no convenient way) to do that.

  • Can I be a part of family sharing and use my own credit card?

Can I be a part of family sharing and use my own credit card?

    Hello SamLupien,
As detailed below, all purchases are billed to the Family Sharing organizer.
With Family Sharing, one adult in the family—the family organizer—agrees to pay for any iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases that other family members initiate while they're part of the family group. This also includes ongoing subscription purchases initiated by family members, such as iCloud storage, iTunes Match, and Newsstand subscriptions.

  • New Family Sharing and iTunes Match

Hello to all. With the release of iOS8 and the Beta of Yosemite, I have decided to leverage the new family sharing of the iTunes accounts. The set up works fine and I have gotten it working, just wondering how to get iTunes match to work with it. So pre-iOS8 I had an account "A" that all my iTunes purchases and iTunes Match were done with and then my wife and I both have personal accounts "B" and "C" for iCloud. So basically when I set up a device I would use one of our iCloud accounts (B or C) and then A for iTunes. This allowed for us to both see our purchases and also have access to our music via iTunes Match.
Now that I have put in Family Sharing and we now sign in with our own accounts. The purchases of apps work and we can see each others purchases. But when I goto iTunes we are not able to see the music that is associated with our primary account and it is requiring us both to purchase iTunes Match.
So any help on how to get iTunes Match to work across account with Family Sharing.

This has forced my family to go back to using one iTunes account.  It is unfortunate because of all the features family sharing offers.  My wife was excited about not having to compete for bookmarks when we are reading the same book, one little example.
be sure to leave feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback/.  I also sent some emails to the major apple blogs out there in hopes that they write about it.  I assume the more negative attention the better chance there is a solution, not that this is deal breaking or anything, but still.

  • Family Sharing and family calendar ???

I've read that the Family Sharing feature in iOS 8 offers a family calendar.  Looking for some guidance on how it works pls.
We have four family members in our household, and each person has their own separate iCloud ID: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]  This allows each of us to have a separate email address, separate 5GB of storage, etc.  I have set up Family Sharing on all our devices.  I am the Family Organizer (in Apple terminology).
In addition to the separate calendar that each of us has with our individual iCloud ID's, my understanding is that we also can have a family calendar that all four of us can share.  I guess this would be a 5th calendar in our case: our four individual calendars plus the family calendar.  But I do not know how to set up the family calendar.  And once set up, I do not know how to specify that an entry should go on the family calendar versus going on my individual calendar.
    Advice welcome.

    Hi pomme4moi,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When you set up Family Sharing and added your family members, this should have created a shared iCloud calendar called Family that the other four iCloud accounts can use.
Family Sharing creates a family calendar where everyone can view, add, or change events and appointments, and they can also get an alert when something changes. And anyone can use the Reminders app to send time or location reminders to the family. So when it’s picture day, pizza night, or just a trip to the beach, everyone’s in the know.
    From:
    Family Sharing
You can add an event to the Family calendar by adding the event as normal:
Add an event. Tap , then fill in the event details.
    From:
Calendar at a glance - iPhone
From the add an event screen, swipe down and tap Calendar, then choose Family to add the event you're creating to the shared family calendar.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • Third party sales and individual purchase order MIGO DIFFERENCE?

    Hi experts,
any difference between third party sales and individual purchase orders goods receipt(MIGO). What's the stock levels chages after goods receipt in both cases? How the system knows that its third party migo and individual purchase order MIGO? Can anybody clarify my question?
    regards,
    raju

    Hi
In third party you will not be able to create automatic PO
The schedule line category CS settings in VOV6 order type NB, MM item category 5 and account assignment category settings as X and in VOV7 for TAS create automatic PO ticked will ensure PR creation only and not PO
As suggested by the other friend you need to run t code ME59N or ME59  for automatic PO creation but certain condition to be met
    1) In the Purchasing View of the material master data, the "Autom. PO" field must be clicked;
    2) In the Purchasing View of the Vendor Master Data, the "Automatic Purchase Order" field must be clicked;
    3) The Outline Agreement or Purchasing Info Record shall be maintained which will allow the automatic copying of unit price and other conditions into PO;
    4) The Source List shall be maintained for the nominated vendor which was shown in either the Outline Agreement or Purchasing Info Record.
You have to run ME59N transaction  manually or schedule this as  a background job

  • Family Sharing and the App Store

There are two weird things I'm noticing now that I've set up Family Sharing for my wife and myself.
    1) Both of our iCloud Account pictures in the Settings App are the same. If I change my iCloud picture to myself, both our iCloud accounts (though they are set up with separate email addresses) change to the same picture. The same happens if my wife sets her iCloud account picture - it changes both our accounts' pictures.
    2) When I go to the App Store, under Purchased I get two sections: My Purchases, and my wife's purchases, listed under her name. If my wife goes to the App Store and goes to Purchased, she gets the message "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than [my email address]." This is despite logging completely out of iCloud and the App Store on her phone, leaving Family Sharing, and rejoining everything using her Apple ID.
Has anyone else noticed strange or similar behavior?

I have fixed the first issue. Both our phones use my iCloud account for contacts (primary iCloud account on my phone, secondary iCloud account on my wife's phone), but apparently that now messes with how the phone identifies who you are. I have since enabled my wife's iCloud contacts and added one card for herself, using Settings > General > Siri to set that new card as her contact card. Now our iCloud accounts both show our respective pictures, but we can still share contacts.
However, even after turning off Family Sharing on my wife's iCloud account and re-adding her to my Family Sharing account, we still get the message on her phone in App Store > Purchases that "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than b***". There is a Learn More button, but this simply takes me to her phone's iCloud account where it clearly shows that her iCloud is set up in family sharing with my b*** email address. Under App Store > Purchases on my phone, I am able to view both my purchases and, supposedly, her purchases (currently empty).
No one else has seen this problem?

  • Family Sharing and Allowances

Unless I am not researching well, I find it extremely unfortunate that iTunes Allowances are not effective when you setup Family Sharing.  I realize the ability to approve all purchases for Children under 13 exists, but what about adults?  If I create an Allowance for an adult in my Family, their purchases simply use the credit first then charge the credit card on file.
    Apple, please include this functionality.

Your best bet would be to try resetting the password to the account that you would like to use via iForgot
Once you log in to that account change the email address to anything, it can even be fake its just a placeholder
After you do that you will be free to change your old email address on your appleID to the new one that is now free to be used as it is no longer attached to the other account.

    Hi there,
this is a Family Sharing question. After we upgraded to family sharing, and I now have a new apple id, I find that all the documents on my iPad in pages,  are only accessible if i sign in with the original apple id- now my husband's ( he is the primary account holder). Is there an easy way to migrate these documents to my iCloud account, or do i need to email them to myself . There are a couple of hundred documents.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thankyou for the reply.
No. I have tried twice. When I turn off pages in the iCloud settings while logged into his account, then my documents in pages just are gone. They return when I turn it back on.
Is there another way I can save them to the device?
