Family sharing and iTunes gift card credits

MY kids are on my family sharing account. They both have itunes credits but when they make a purchase it does not charge their credit balance. It charges my credit card. How do I fix this?

Hey Ree079,
It should bill your children’s iTunes credit first before billing your credit card. If that is not the case then report the issue to the iTunes Store by following the steps in the second article.

  • Family Sharing and iTunes Gift Cards

My question is this: I know that if the Organizer adds an iTunes Gift Card to his/her account, all purchases will first deduct from that until it is depleted and will revert back to the credit/debit card on file. However, what happens if one of the family members on the account adds an iTunes Gift Card to their account? Is it basically a wasted gift card, or will iTunes know that it should deduct from that card first? Or, if they go to add an iTunes Gift Card to their account, will it automatically add it to the Organizer's account instead?

The charge will first be deducted from any iTunes store credit in the iTunes store account of the family member making the purchase.  From Family purchases and payments - Apple Support:
“After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill.”

  • HT204266 I used several apple and iTunes gift cards on my account with relevant codes.  How can I verify all cards have been used when total purchases don't line up?

I have used several apple app and itunes gift cards to purchase apps and music with no problem.  Codes were entered as required.  Is it possible to get a printout of the card amount and codes to check against purchases.  My total is not jiving.

No, you can't see a list of card redemptions, nor how items were billed - all you can do is view your account's purchase history via your computer's iTunes : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases.

  • Family sharing and itunes

Hi Communitty. In my house we are going to update all out devices and computers. we share 1 apple id account with all members. Can we continue using Itunes Cards as a prefered payment? since we do not use CC for anything that has to do with purchase online?
Since we are groing on iOS and apple computers, the max of 5 all ready pass on the old ways.

Hi Chris CA thanks for your reply. So is a bad idea to use family sharing?
No, it is a good idea to use Family Sharing.
You should all have your own, separate AppleIDs.
If you all use the same AppleID, then Family Sharing does nothing for you.
Yes you can use iTunes gift cards with Family Sharing.
An iTunes Gift  card will be redeemed only to the specific AppleID that redeems it.
iTunes Gift amounts are not shared (but the purchases are).
See this -> How iTunes Store purchases are billed - Apple Support
"How are Family Sharing purchases billed?
When you initiate a new purchase, it will be billed directly to the family organizer's account, unless you have gift or store credit. First, your store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer. iTunes Store credit on your account isn't shared with other family members. So if the family organizer has a $50 credit on their account and another family member initiates a purchase, it won't deduct from the organizer's iTunes Store credit, but will bill the organizer's credit or debit card."

  • Family sharing and iTunes Allowances

My daughter is on family sharing so that she can access music she purchased on my account before she had her own account AND I have created an iTunes allowance for her for new purchases to limit her spending on her account. Should her new purchases come FIRST from her allowance instead of my card? So far all her purchases are being charged to my card. Her allowance does show up on her account, so I know her account has been properly credited with the funds. Is there a better way to give her access to previously purchased music/apps on my account (without giving her access to my credit card)? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi yosemitedoran,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If I'm understanding your question ... your daughter has two different Apple ID's?  If so, she can't use iTunes Allowances on the Apple ID she is using for Family Sharing.
Start or join a family group using Family Sharing - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201088
    Start a family group
One adult in the family—the family organizer—can set up Family Sharing for the group. When you set up Family Sharing, you'll be asked to confirm that you agree to pay for purchases initiated by the family members you invite and that you have a valid payment method on file. Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards.

If you use Family Sharing and Ask to Buy is enabled for your account, you can't buy iTunes Allowances.
For the Apple ID that is not part of Family Sharing, this is a possible option:
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204053
I have purchased music, apps, or books with multiple Apple IDs. How can I get all of this content onto my iOS device?
First, copy all of your purchased content so that it's on the same Mac or PC with iTunes. This computer should be the one you sync your device with.
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between computers
iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between computers
Next, authorize your computer to play content with each Apple ID in iTunes. After your computer is authorized for all of your content, it can be synced to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Shared Account with Gift Card credits

We have four people in our family, each with their own USER account on a shared Mac Mini computer. Each user account has it's own iTunes LIBRARY and associated iPod. However, all of the individual iTunes libraries are set-up to use a single iTunes STORE account so that all of the billing goes through a single credit card and it allows us to share songs with each other.
Now we are giving the kids iTunes gift cards for things such as Christmas and making honor roll. However, when they redeem their cards using their user account and their library, it appears that the STORE lumps all of the cards together so that it is no longer clear which child has which value remaining and it also shows up on our "adult" accounts where we don't want to use their card values at all.
So ... Is there any way to associate a redeemed card with just one user?
Also, now with the new iTunes family share version, is it possible instead to create a separate STORE account for each person, but use the same billing info for each and then be able to share our libraries even though we would no longer share the same Store account?

I can go and create a separate store account for each of us and each of the kids and bill it all to one credit card. Then they can each have and track their own redeemed card amounts on their individual store accounts. RIght?
    Correct.
    1) Will we still be able to apply parental rules to what they can access / download now that they will have a separate store account?
Yes. The Parental Controls apply regardless of what iTunes Store account the instance of iTunes happens to be logged into. Otherwise it would be too easy to defeat just by the user logging into another iTunes Store account.
    2) Will we still be able to select the option which will require them to get our approval (password) before they can download something new?
It would work just like it does now. If you don't give them the password to their own iTunes Store account, they can't buy anything, but if they know the password, you can't stop them other than by using the Parental Controls to lock off the iTunes Store.
    3) When songs are downloaded now, they go into their respective library for the user doing the downloading. Then if we want to share it with each other we just access that library on the hard drive and import it into the new library. Pretty easy. But ... I thought that originally when I tried to do this, it wouldn't allow it because of whatever the coding is on the file that showed it was coming from a "different" account and so that was one of the reasons I put everyone on a single account if (I remember correctly).
If an item is copy-protected, the computer must be authorized to that iTunes Store account. But that authorization should apply across all user accounts on a single computer and should happen automatically when the iTunes Store account is set up for the first item is purchased through the account. Almost all music on the iTunes Store now comes without copy protection, though, so the issue probably won't arise very often unless your kids are downloading videos, TV shows or movies.
    Regards.

  • Family sharing and iTunes credit

    hi all,
my partner has set up family sharing and I have joined it. I understand that one credit card is used for all members (although I think this somewhat daft). My problem is that I only ever really use iTunes vouchers. I have just trie to purchase a film and it is telling me the family sharing organiser needs to authorise my purchases for the joint payment method. Firstly I don't want to use the joint payment method, my iTunes credit covers the cost and secondly I don't want to have to wait for someone to accept something every time I want to make a purchase, but I do want to share my puchases. Is there any way around this and when she accepts it is it going to use my store credit?
    thank you for your comments.

This is my account info for iTunes & AppStore:
This is the payment info in iCloud Family Sharing settings:
Obviously I was able to change the payment info in iTunes/App Store. What do I have to do to make that carry over to iCloud?

  • New Family Sharing and iTunes Match

Hello to all. With the release of iOS8 and the Beta of Yosemite, I have decided to leverage the new family sharing of the iTunes accounts. The set up works fine and I have gotten it working, just wondering how to get iTunes match to work with it. So pre-iOS8 I had an account "A" that all my iTunes purchases and iTunes Match were done with and then my wife and I both have personal accounts "B" and "C" for iCloud. So basically when I set up a device I would use one of our iCloud accounts (B or C) and then A for iTunes. This allowed for us to both see our purchases and also have access to our music via iTunes Match.
Now that I have put in Family Sharing and we now sign in with our own accounts. The purchases of apps work and we can see each others purchases. But when I goto iTunes we are not able to see the music that is associated with our primary account and it is requiring us both to purchase iTunes Match.
So any help on how to get iTunes Match to work across account with Family Sharing.

This has forced my family to go back to using one iTunes account.  It is unfortunate because of all the features family sharing offers.  My wife was excited about not having to compete for bookmarks when we are reading the same book, one little example.
be sure to leave feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback/.  I also sent some emails to the major apple blogs out there in hopes that they write about it.  I assume the more negative attention the better chance there is a solution, not that this is deal breaking or anything, but still.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • HT201081 how to disable family sharing and remove credit card

I updated all of out Apple mobile devices and set up Family Sharing.  I thought this would be a great idea.  Quickly I was proven wrong.  I liked the idea of linking my wife's account and mine, and the ability to add my kid as a child under my account (with his own itunes account). The ability for each account to be linked was convenient, but my problem, and many others I have seen posting online, is it being necessary to leave the credit card on file.  Second is the premissions setting.  This again is a good theory, but with children and their always wanting new games and other apps, it quickly became inconvenient to have to give permission to download even a FREE app.  So here is what I would like. The option to add the ability to download free apps, and request permission for purchasing apps.  If this in not possible, than the ability to completely disable family sharing, thus allowing me to remove my credit card info from the iTunes system and prevent unwanted purchases.
If anyone has any suggestions on disabling the family sharing I would greatly appreciate it.

Direct from the iPhone User Guide.
“Leave Family Sharing. Go to Settings > iCloud > Family, then tap Leave Family Sharing. If you are the organizer, go to Settings > iCloud > Family, tap your name, then tap Stop Family Sharing. For more information, see support.apple.com/kb/HT201081.”

  • How to merge itunes gift card credits

I have 2 itunes accounts that both have credits from gift cards. I would like to merge the 2 accounts and the respective balances. Can that be done and how do i do that?
    Thank you

That is asked often, but people here report that the iTunes Store will not do so. I can't speak for Apple, but I assume they do not want to have to police requests like "Transfer all leannesavone's credits into my account." Besides, any content bought with an iTunes account has the account permanently embedded in it, without any evident way to change it.
So, just buy enough songs to clean out the account you no longer want, and then stop using it.

  • Family Sharing and iTunes store error

I have setup family sharing using my wife's Appleid as the organizer.  Everything was setup and working great until my daughter got an iPhone 6 for her birthday.  After finishing setting up her phone she now gets the following message in the iTunes store if she is logged in with her account or if she is logged in with my wife's account:
This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than [email protected] Learn More.
She gets this message when she goes to the App store on the iPhone 6, goes to the Updates page, and clicks Purchased at the top.  On her iPad she instead gets a My Purchases link, and links to purchases from the other Family members.
I have checked the various iCloud and App Store settings and they are the same between her iPad that works and her iPhone that does not.
    Any ideas?

    Update...I now notice:
    Going to: App Store>Updates>Purchases:
    1)  The message “This iTunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account other than <her iCloud ID>...”  Is now showing up on my iPhone and can no longer see any of my purchases or hers.
    2) The same message above is now showing on my iPad mini (it didn’t before).  But, I can still see both hers and my purchases on my iPad mini.
    3) The message "This iTunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account other than <my iCloud ID>…” still showing on her iPhone and she still can’t see her or my purchases.
iTunes Family Sharing still works fine.
Note: If I Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store then log out of my Apple ID, then go to App Store>Updates>Purchases and log into my Apple ID from there, My purchases show up (not hers). I then toggle between Updates and Purchases and the message pops up and unable to see any purchases, again.  Same thing happens when I do it to her phone except her purchases show up (not mine).
I emailed this update to Apple...waiting for a reply.

  • Family Sharing and Itunes ( on WIndows )

I have Itunes on my windows computer. My wife has an Ipad, Ipad Air,  and Iphone 5 with her own account, we got my son a Ipod Touch, I was able to do the Family Sharing, but had to set it up on my Wifes account, since I do not have my Itunes linked to an apple product. Is there a way to get my account linked in the family sharing also, so my son has access to music I have already purchased just like he has access to my wifes itunes apps/music.
One thing I thought about is could I re-sync her older ipad to my account, and add it, or does it require a specific update, because the 1st Gen Ipad cant be updated to the new OS.

@TigerFrank, not sure whether you got your answer but for any reason if you haven't then here are the steps to see the purchases from all the family shared accounts in your iTunes for Windows...
Once you're in iTunes, you see your account name on the top, on the right side of the Apple logo.  There is a little pointing down arrow, click on it
on the opened up menu, click on Family Purchases
on the Family Purchases window, on the top left you see your Name with the little pointing down arrow, click on it again
on the opened up menu, select the account you want to download the music from.
That is how you do it, because I just learned about it and thought I would share the information so that others also get benefited from it.  Hope, this helps...
