Family Sharing enabled, cannot view my own purchases on iPhone anymore

I have Family Sharing set up for my family.
I am the organizer.
I have my wife and my daughter added to Family Sharing.
My daughter's account was added using "Create an Apple ID for a child".
I am logged into my own iCloud account on my iPhone, as you'd expect.
I am logged into my own iTunes and App store account (matches my iCloud account login) on my iPhone, as you'd expect.
My problem is that in the App Store on iOS, looking at Purchased Items shows me the following:
My iPhone knows that I'm logged into my own iTunes and iCloud accounts in all other respects. Why does it think that I'm logged into my daughter's iCloud account for viewing All Purchases? Am I the only one in the universe seeing this?
Thanks.

I have selected the folder where all my Photo's are kept on my iTunes account that is currently stored on the C Drive of my P.C - which is in excess of 3000 pictures, but still I can only see around 20 photo's that are just on the iPhone.
Sounds as though you may have set the folder up in iTunes.
Please note that Photostream does not store all the photos on your drive - it only stores recent photos taken on your iOS devices.

    Hi Angela1313,
I see that you have a question about using gift cards with Family Sharing. Here is an article with some information that my be pertinent to this issue:

  • I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) on my iPad2 in-flight

I cannot view rented movies (purchased through itunes) with the Video app on my iPad2 while flying. On a hunch, I purchased in-flight wifi and only then could I watch my rentals. What gives? Any suggestions on how to avoid paying for in-flight wifi is appreciated.

I don't think that he waited a day.  From the wording, I concluded that he waited only minutes (during take-off).
I recall seeing this issue before.  Apparently there is an issue related to copyright protection with some movies.  I stopped flying when I retired so I didn't pay too much attention to the problem.  Perhaps a search of the forum will shed more light.

    Hi apples-consecutive-buyer-for-life,
Family Sharing makes all of your past purchases available to other family group members, including most apps. See this article on what content can be shared -

    Welcome!
Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722IN/
It goes in an available PCI slot
There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:
    USB wireless "dongle:"
Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
    USB PCI adaptor:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7069&Ntt=USB+PCI
Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. The USB2 card+USB2 Dongle gives you more fast ports for transferring date from other external USB devices (primarily cameras and external hard drives) at hugely faster rates than can the original ports. I have a USB 2 PCI card in my G4 tower strictly for transferring images from my digital SLR camera in a timely manner.

  • Unable to download "Not Shareable" app on their own from the App Store once Family Sharing enabled

    iOS 8.0.2 iPhone 6
I finally decided to take advantage of Family Sharing and it has (unfortunately) created a few problems in trying to solve others.
Apparently there are Apps deemed "Not Shareable" (see image below).
These Apps will not appear in the Purchased list of your Shared Family member; which makes sense even though I do not understand why it is so…especially Free apps.
However, the problem is the App Store itself is also affected by the Purchased History. This results in "Free" and "Buy" buttons of all Apps (purchased previously by your family member) being replaced with download from the cloud buttons even though you have not ever purchased the app with your Apple ID.
You will then get the following error every time you try and download the "Not Shareable" App from the App Store directly (as an independent purchase):
In other words, for example, the Amazon App is a free app but it is labeled "Not Shareable." Fine, I would like to buy it on it's own with a my Apple ID from the App Store (independently of whatever my family members bought). I cannot! I will get the above error every time. A work around is using a desktop and iTunes but it didn't work the first time…so keep trying. And Apple, please help/fix ASAP!

Thanks for the responses.  I actually ended up turning off Family Sharing because I found this to be really annoying, and for other reasons.  I was able to download Uber for my wife from iTunes on her PC laptop with Automatic App Downloads turned on on her iPhone.
The other problem I'm having, and the reason I switched off Family Sharing, is with store credit.  I have a lot of gift card credit on my account, but when my family makes purchases, the gift card credit is not deducted first before charging my card.  Not sure if there is a way to change that but I couldn't figure it out.

  • Why is the organiser in Family Sharing forced to pay for Adults' purchases?

Family sharing is an awesome tool, but marred by the inability to elect if adults in the group use the organiser's or their own payment methods.
Please fix this and allow us to select who we allow. They should also be able to choose!

That is exactly how Family Sharing works for children. They cannot purchase anything without an approval by the Organizer or an authorized Adult:
    https://www.apple.com/icloud/family-sharing/
So, not sure how that leaves it open to abuse/misuse by children....

  • How do I set up Family Sharing for my kids without owning a device myself?

My kids received iPads for Christmas. I neither have an iPad nor an iPhone, but I would like to set up Family Sharing.  How can I do this from my account without owning one of said devices?  I have installed iCloud for Windows, but I cannot log into it (valid iTunes account, but not set up for iCloud).
I cannot be the only parent in the world whose kids have iPads, but I don't.
    Many thanks

    Hey Wendaroski,
I am not quite sure what you mean by "my family members emails are already associated with my iTunes account" but what you need for each family member is an Apple ID. Yours would be the one for your iTunes account.
If the other members of the family already have an Apple ID you can invite them to join the family group. If not they will need to create one, using their email address. This article shows how -

  • Family sharing not allowing me to make purchases without using my husband's payment method

My Husband and I recently took the plunge and joined Family Sharing.
Having pretty hectic lives, we haven't worked it all out as yet - and today, I tried purchasing an App - and all of a sudden I am being required to use my husbands iTunes account and Payment Methods, rather than my own, which I have used for many years.
We did make my husband the organiser, however, I am on the account as an adult, and find this sudden change invasive and unacceptable.   Nothing in the literature explaining family sharing says that the adult who is not the organiser, can no longer control their own purchases and purchase methods.
we love the idea of family sharing for photos, movies, apps, books etc ....  However I do not want my purchases and subscription communications to go through to my husband.  We are both busy, independent adults - and although we have nothing to hide from one another, what we each do should be communicated to and controlled by each of us.
I just called support, and they are telling me that there is nothing they can do about this ?
Anyone got any advice, or experiences to share ?  TIA

Your purchases will be charged against the Organizer's charge card on file, but they will reside under the Apple ID that you are purchasing them under (so if later, you were to leave Family Sharing, they would be "owned" by your Apple ID). If you have a gift card on file for your Apple ID, it will take the funds from the gift card first before going to the Organizer's charge card, but the entire set-up of Family Sharing is one that is designed to charge all purchases against the Organizer's card on file.
How is the set-up invasive, exactly? Family Sharing is primarily designed for families, especially ones with small children. The FAQs and ad pages are very clear about the fact that the Organizer pay for all purchases:

  • How can I use family sharing, but allow my daughter to purchase with her iTunes allowance without asking permission?

I love the idea of iTunes family sharing, but I don't think it currently supports my situation.
My daughter's iTunes account gets a monthly allowance (plus occasional gift cards), and does not have a credit card tied to it. That way, she can buy whatever she wants, but only with her existing account balance.
I'd like to tie her account to mine via family sharing, but want to keep her spending limited to just her allowance balance. Also, I don't need to grant permission each time she wants to buy something when using her balance. Ideally, she would be permitted to buy exactly as she does now (no permission necessary, no credit card on the account, and only using allowance funds), but also be tied my family account to listen to music I've already bought.
It appears that my 3 options are:
Do not do family sharing and keep the accounts separate.
Tie the accounts together, put "ask to buy" on her account, and then get bugged for permission each time she wants to get something (as well as keep track myself of her going over her allowance and dipping into my credit card).
Tie the accounts together, don't use "ask to buy", and keep my fingers crossed that she doesn't spend more than her allowance amount (because iTunes would permit spending more than that and charge my card).
Options 2 and 3 don't work for me, and option 1 doesn't take advantage of family sharing.
Can I have a family sharing account that *doesn't* charge to my credit card?

    Hello jeffchr,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you don't want to be billed for a family members purchases. I would recommend that you read these articles, they explain the features options.
    Family Sharing
All new iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases initiated by family members will be billed to the family organizer’s account.
    Family purchases and payments
    Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.
How iTunes Store purchases are billed
Which payment methods will be used first?
When you make a purchase, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits. Your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance.

  • How do I get the shared Family calendar to show up with Family Sharing enabled?

    Hi,
I've enabled Family Sharing and added a couple of my kids, but none of us are seeing a new shared "Family' calendar. I'm just seeing my original calendar list, unchanged since enabling family sharing. I've tried signing out of iCloud and back in as the usual fix for these things There's no Family calendar anywhere: on my phone, on my laptop or on iCloud.com. Is there anything I have to do or can do to get to show up?
    Thanks

  • Family Sharing *never* asks permission prior to purchase

I'm sure others are having this issue (I've seen a few posts here and there); I have a love/hate relationship with Family Sharing. Movie and TV sharing is great -- it's easy for us to share purchases; we do it all the time.
The problem is with the fabled "ask permission prior to purchase" feature -- it doesn't work. Not for us anyway. I only know that a purchase has been made after I get notification email from my CC company that a charge has been made.
My kids are good; it's not a problem. They usually ask.
Everyone at Apple is perplexed -- no idea why it's not working, have you tried this or that kind of thing (logging in, then out; deleting plan then reinstating, etc.; nothing has fixed it).
It's such a great idea, I'm really kind of ****** that it isn't working for us.

  • Family Sharing when having different accounts for purchasing and iCloud

I have two Apple ID accounts. One that I use for making iTunes purchases (which I had way before @me.com or @icloud.com existed) and the new @icloud.com account that I use for everything iCloud related (Messages, backups, etc).
Now that Family Sharing exists, I want to bring my kids and my wife into the plan, but from what I've seen, I wouldn't be able to use my icloud.com address since all my purchases are on the other Apple ID. The problem is that either I would need to stop using my icloud.com ID or purchase everything again?
I know one of the most requested features has been to be able to merge accounts and I know I am not the only one in this situation. Is there a way in iOS 8 Family Sharing to do just that? I wouldn't mind removing my old Apple ID account as long as I can transfer all my purchases to the new icloud.com ID.
Otherwise, I guess Family Sharing is out for me (and for everyone who is on the same boat of having 2 different Apple IDs).

Ok teach me to believe stuff I read on the Internet!! But I did get it to work.
So how in effect it is not working much differently to the old way under ios7 that worried me when iTunes Match was going to use "icloud" and not my existing Apple ID. But as we all found out we could use our @me.com or @icloud.com address for all they syncing stuff and then further down there was an option for your iTunes store account where most of us used our old iTunes Store account.
So after reading this thread and many similar articles on new family sharing I thought we may have the same issue, but it seems we are ok.
    How I did it:
    1) Set up Family Sharing,
    2) when asked for AppleID enter my @me.com address and password
    3) click next, it asks what AppleID to use for Store purchases for the family, here I entered my old store id which is so old is actually just a username.
    4) confirm payment card
This seems to have worked, my purchases through AppStore are still made through my old id and all family purchases will be made through that id too.
But as far as my family are concerned @me.com addy is the organiser.
I have yet to set up family members but I trust Apple that it will work they haven't let me down yet (apart from the mucking around with Photostream that they seem to have done).
Also you can check in your settings whether it is set up correctly, go to Family Sharing via icloud settings, click on your name as organiser, it should show what AppleID your family purchases are made through, mine shows my normal AppStore ID, when I get home I'll upload some screenshots (once edited out my details!)

  • Family sharing: members can't see others' purchases

As the head family member, I can see my family members' purchases. But they can't see any shared content. I double-checked the Family Sharing settings and we are all listed under each device. Each person is signed in with the correct id. Sharing is set to "on." I tried logging out and logging in again, downloaded a free app, but it's still not working. Please help!

  • Using Apple ID Balance with Family Sharing Enabled

I currently have 4 Apple accounts setup within my Family Sharing settings.  All four are setup to use a shared payment method from my account.  My primary account has a balance, yet any purchase made from a family member only uses the credit card.  Only purchases I make deduct from my balance.  Is there a way to have the shared family devices pull from the primary account's balance first before charging the credit card?

    Hello MattPanton,
Lets see if we can isolate the issues with Family Sharing. Lets start with the Contacts issue. Now with Family Sharing, Contacts is something that is not part of what can be shared. You would be looking at things like purchases, calendars and the Find My iPhone features. So as far seeing the wrong contacts, check to make sure that your account is not signed in anywhere on her devices. To answer your other question about how to obtain someone else’s purchases you would need to navigate to the appropriate store, like iTunes and App stores, and navigate to the purchases area and you should see the option of the other person to see what you can download to your device. Take a look at the articles below and let me know if you need any thing else or further assistance.
