  • Apple ID / Family Sharing for Kids: Change Requests

My 12 year old has been given an iPhone and I wanted to include him into our Family Sharing. I stumbled over a number of Problems that are a bit disappointing for an Apple user:
    1. Asfar as I understand: As he reaches 13, the restriction that the parents have to authorize all purchases on the organizer's Apple ID / credit card will automatically fall.
This is not what we want. We suggest that the organizer can choose at what age the restriction will fall (at least max. 16!).
    2. The members of the family do not have the choice that a purchase should be charged on their own credit card.
This is not what we want. We suggest that each family member can provide their own credit card and can choose at each purchase if it is charged to his or her own credit card or to the organizer's credit card.
In this case it would be a good idea that there is not age limit for the autorization of purchases by the organizer.
    3. It is not possible to create a new Apple ID for minors over https://appleid.apple.com/. The only way to create an Apple ID is the Family Sharing function in IOS 8.x.  However, there it is not possible to define an Apple ID with an individual email address – it has to be a @icloud.com-Address.
This is not what we want. We suggest hat the function to create an Apple ID for minors within the Family Sharing function of IOS would allow for Apple IDs with individual email addresses.
    4. It seems that the apple support staff does not know these things in detail. It took me three calls to find this out.  In the first call, the supporter suggested to define the kid's Apple ID using applied.apple.com. However, it was possible to create an account with a birthday of a 12 year old (wrong error
text: "You cannot change this birth day").  The second supporter told me that the reason for this was a major update under way in Apple's systems and asked me to wait for 48 hours. The third supporter did not know these details.  I had to ask to talk to someone familiar with Family Sharing and Apple ID to verify:
Is it possible to create an Apple ID for minors over applied.apple.com?  Is there another way to create an Apple ID for minors using an individual email address as the Apple ID?  It took me 10 minutes waiting until the supporter told me that neither was possible.
This is not what we want. We suggest that the support staff is trained better or is provided with better Information on these topics.

  • HT201079 Under iCloud family sharing for iTunes is a family member other than the organizer able to make purchases

Under iCloud family sharing for iTunes is a family member other than the organizer able to make purchases?

Any member of the family group can make purchases, but they are all charged to the organizer's credit card.  For children (under 13) you can also enable Ask to Buy, and their purchases will require your approval (see Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids).

  • How to set up individuals on family sharing for using Facetime - all are saying it's me!

I've set up family sharing for my wife and kids. Currently all the devices are set up as me and linked to my email address and phone number. how do i separate them onto my wife's email / mobile no and then separate my kids (all under 13) so they can use Facetime etc? thanks!

    Hello Mevster,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to change the Apple ID used by services, like FaceTime, on some iOS devices. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of information that should answer your question and walk you through the process of changing the Apple ID that's used for services on iOS devices.

  • I cannot to set family sharing for my family. When i open to iCloud section in settings it says "There's no family information". Why ?

As I said in subject I cannot to set family sharing for my family. When i open to iCloud section in settings it says "There's no family information". Why ?

Yes, to clarify - we get a message that says "(he) is already a member of the Family"... but on my iPhone, it still shows that he is not, ie. that the invitation is still pending acceptance.
A bit more detail - when I enter his name (or even .me email address) at the 'Add Family Member' screen on the iPhone, the system will not accept it. ie. I enter his credentials, hit 'Next', and it does not progress to the next screen...
Bizzare. And he's the one who really needs to be enrolled, not so much my wife - who is successfully signed up!
Hope there's some solution to this...

  • Family sharing for the store account

instead of showing up for the store account, family sharing is showing up for my icloud account and there seems to be no way to enable family sharing for my store account unless i use the same as my icloud account. both are @icloud.com accounts.
please let me know what can be done.

The list of apps keeps growing and now include Pages and Pinterest. Interesting to note, the issue happens on both my iPhone and iPad but it's not specific to apps. Meaning, Pages won't update on the iPad but my phone seems to have no problems updating it. Anyone?

  • How do I set up Family Sharing for my kids without owning a device myself?

My kids received iPads for Christmas. I neither have an iPad nor an iPhone, but I would like to set up Family Sharing.  How can I do this from my account without owning one of said devices?  I have installed iCloud for Windows, but I cannot log into it (valid iTunes account, but not set up for iCloud).
I cannot be the only parent in the world whose kids have iPads, but I don't.
    Many thanks

    Hey Wendaroski,
I am not quite sure what you mean by "my family members emails are already associated with my iTunes account" but what you need for each family member is an Apple ID. Yours would be the one for your iTunes account.
If the other members of the family already have an Apple ID you can invite them to join the family group. If not they will need to create one, using their email address. This article shows how -

  • In Family sharing why kids must have mine approve to for free downloads (for purchases i understood)

This is crazy that i set age in restriction so they can only download for example 4+ ...but even then when whey select free app they must ask me for agree ? Its stupid ! Or for what we have restriction setting for apps ?

It's nothing to do with app restrictions, a free app is still considered a purchase and requires approval if you enable the Ask for Approval feature on a family member.  I was hoping for an easy to way to say "Yes, I will buy you that game..," not a constant annoyance of having to approve every free game they download.  I would love to take advantage of the other features of Family Sharing but this problem actually blocks it.  I have to remove them from the iCloud family or else they are essentially restricted from downloading free apps.

  • Family Sharing for child with existing Apple ID

I'd like to enable Family Sharing, including Ask to Buy, for my child who has an existing Apple ID. How do I do this? The default is to treat every family member as an adult, with no option to specify as child.

This doesn't work. You are basically changing the birthday to make them 13. Not creating Child IDs with real dates.
For those of us who created Apple ID for our kids, before family sharing existed, by creating accounts and NOT PUTTING IN THEIR REAL BIRTHDAYS. Since you couldn't create IDS for kids back then. So now my kids REAL emails are LOCKED into a ADULT ACCOUNT. There is NO WAY to delete and account and start over. I cant create a new CHILD ID because their emails are already taken.
You should be able to CHANGE and ID to the proper under 13 date, then use the CC verification to prove I'm a (******) adult. Or at the very least DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT AND START OVER.

  • Family sharing child purchases (under 13)

I just setup 3 new ipad mini's for my sister and her 2 kids (my niece/nephew) and I'm having an issue with purchases from child accounts.
I updated all their devices to ios8 before creating any accounts.
The first ipad is setup with my sister's icloud/appleID account. All her credit card info is loaded and she can now make purchases.
Under her icloud settings I enabled Family Sharing. I used the "create an Apple ID for a child" to create 2 accounts. (they are both under 13)
Now her kids each have their own child Apple ID. Perfect!
Now on each of the kids ipads I setup their icloud with their new Child AppleID account. It shows that they are both part of my sisters "Family" account.
Now, when I go to the app store and select Purchased.. there's NO accounts or purchases being displayed. Strange as this account is linked to my sisters..
So then I went to try and download a FREE app as a test to see if this child account would get a prompt to ASK for permission. What I was presented with was a prompt saying I wasn't logged in the App Store.. so ok.. I went to Settings iTunes&AppStore and tried to login with the child Apple ID (which was already entered without the password). I only got an ERROR stating it can't connect to the App Store. I'm guessing because since this is a child account.. a valid iTunes account doesn't exist yet.
Am I supposed to enter my sisters AppleID account here too now? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of Family Sharing? Makes no sense!
I don't want to proceed changing any other settings just in case they get locked out.
    HELP!

nobody has ran in this situation?

  • How do I transfer Game Center id to a new apple id (created for family sharing for a child) in iOS 8?

I just created a new Apple ID for my son (under 13 so could not have an account until new), as part of the new family sharing option in iOS 8.0.2, and I want to transfer the Game Center account he was using to the new Apple ID. I see in Settings > Game Center it has the option to login into an Apple ID but not Game Center separately. How do I get the new Apple ID to use the old Game Center account he was using?

There is no way to merge or transfer anything to another AppleID. The App Store license also specifies that purchases cannot be transferred.

  • Problem: Cannot create Apple-ID for kids under 13

    Hello!
I have recurring problem to create an apple-id for my kids.
At the end of the process i get the follwoing message:
"Apple-ID kann nicht erstellt werden - Dieser Vorgang kann derzeit nicht abgeschlossen werden."
in english: "Apple-ID can not be created - The task can not be completed at the moment."
    Any suggestions?

  • Why not debit card for family sharing for minor children

Apple is requiring credit card security code to prove you are an adult when setting up family share for under 13 child.  We don't use credit cards.  There is no reason they can't use the security code on a debit card.  This is silly.

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The organizer's Apple ID account does require a valid payment source, which includes both credit cards and debit cards.
    Setting up Family Sharing
When you set up Family Sharing, you'll be asked to confirm that you agree to pay for purchases initiated by the family members you invite and that you have a valid payment method on file. Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards. You can change the billing method on file in your account at any time in your iTunes & App Store account settings.

  • Family sharing for the divorced

How would one go about setting up an Apple ID for an 8 year old who has divorced, but mostly amicable, parents? Our daughter has an iPod and iPad at separate houses, each currently under our seperate iTunes/iCloud IDs.
Both of us would like the Shared Location, Family Calendar, Family photo album as well as the Permission to Purchase features of Family Sharing, but don't necesarily want to have it all on one credit card, although we do maintain a joint account for child related expenses.
KInd of a mess, looking for suggestions

There are legal reasons why it's set up this way.
For the past 4 years, I simply used a master App Store account across all devices.
Lots of people did that. Unfortunately, it wasn't legal. Apple came up with Family sharing as a way to allow you to achieve the same results legally.
