Family Sharing group has an iTunes card is that "money' available to everyone?

If a member of the Family Sharing group has an iTunes card is that "money' available to everyone?

Hi cazclif68,
Purchases made by a member of a Family Sharing group are billed to the credit or debit card set up as the group's payment method, unless the family member who makes the purchase has gift or store credit. That gift or store credit is not available to other group members. See this article -

  • How do you add an iTunes Gift Card so that all purchases of any members of a Family Sharing Group can use the credit?

How can all family members of a Family Sharing Group use a gift card that has been been applied to the iTunes master account? I added a gift card to our master iTunes account for my grandson, and even though he's a family sharing group member, none of the purchases I have approved from his requests have used the gift card credit. A search of the iTunes support site failed to turn up anything that even remotely addresses this topic. It would seem reasonable to assume that any purchase made by any family member should be able to use the gift card credit since all purchases go through the master account, but this does not appear to be the case.

Regarding your statement about the gift card balance being used if redeemed to the organizers account - http://www.apple.com/feedback.
Regarding redeeming the gift card to the child's account, it is the same as redeeming to yours.  You have to be signed in to the iTunes store using the child's apple ID, then redeem the gift card there.  If you already redeemed the card on your ID, you won't be able to redeem it again.

  • I'm part of a family sharing group. How do I use my iTunes balance to purchase apps?

I'm part of a family sharing group, but I have a balance on my iTunes account. How do I use that balance to pay for apps, instead of using the organizers shared payment method?

    Laker Fan,
It should be doing it that way.  See below for the official Apple description.  If it is not working as stated, contact iTunes Customer Service.
    Family purchases and payments
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.

    G Man,
If she redeemed the card on her account, and it correctly reflects her credit balance, then she should be able to buy  items with it.  Here is the explanation of how it is supposed to work:
    Family purchases and payments
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.
Try again and see if it works that way.  If not, contact Customer Service for assistance.

  • My wife's Apple ID is shown as belonging to a family sharing group, but we can't determine what is the id of the owner.  How can she remove herself from the group?

my wife's apple ID is shown as belonging to another family sharing group. We can' t figure out the  Apple ID of the 'owner' of the group.  Is there any way to remove oneself from a family sharing group when you are not the owner?  Or how can we find the log in id (Apple ID) of the owner?

i partially solved the problem, however still need some help.  My wife has made purchases under two different Apple ids.  I tried t re-set her iPad with her main ID but it is apparently part of a family.  I re-set  her iPad iCloud using her secondary ID.  The sharing of iTunes shows her main apple ID.  The settings iTunes is also set to her main Apple id.  I sent an invite from her iPad icloud family sharing to her main Apple ID, but when I attempted to consent to join it says she is already a member.  So I am guessing this is because in the family set up under her secondary ID that her main id is the iTunes account that is shared.  My question is could I change the iTunes shared under her name as owner to her secondary account, then invite her main account to join as a distinct member?  I am nervous about doing this for two reasons 1.  There is a warning when changing the shared iTunes account that says you can't join another group for 90 days. 2. I may still get the message that her main account is still a member of the group even though it doesn't show up, and then not able to revert back.
if you follow this can someone offer some help,
    thanks
note. This whole problem when we had to change a Apple id when we changed Internet service providers.

  • Do all the people in family sharing group have to have same last name?

do all the people in family sharing group have to have same last name?

    Hi ant_barry,
Happy New Year!  The Family Sharing program does not require members of the family to share the same name.  Here is some general information for you:
OS X Yosemite: What is Family Sharing?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19007
Family Sharing lets up to six members of your family share their iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases, a family calendar, family reminders list, and family photos, all without sharing accounts.
One adult—the family organizer—sets up Family Sharing, invites up to five people to join the family group, and agrees to pay for any iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases those family members initiate while part of the family group. Once set up, family members get immediate access to each other’s music, movies, TV shows, books, and eligible apps. In addition, family members can easily share photos in a shared family album, add events to a family calendar, share their location with other family members, and even help locate another family member’s missing device.
Each family member needs to have an Apple ID he or she uses for iCloud. For a child too young to create his or her own Apple ID, the family organizer can provide parental consent for a child to have his or her own Apple ID and create it on the child’s behalf while adding the child to the family.
To join a family, you must sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID. You will also be asked to confirm the Apple ID you use for the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store. You can be part of only one family group at a time, and you can switch families at most once per year.
Family Sharing is available on iOS devices with iOS 8 or later, Mac computers with OS X Yosemite (v10.10) or later, and Windows computers with iCloud for Windows 4.0 or later.

  • Can one apple ID belong to multiple family sharing groups?

I'm interested in starting a family sharing group with my siblings (surprise).  They have children of their own, however, so if I invite them to my new group, will they also be able to create a different group for themselves with their children?
My thought is that my siblings can more easily share information and photos.  I wasn't interested in approving app purchases for their children however so I thought they could create a separate group with their same parent ID for themselves with their children.  If I'm thinking of this right, and ID needs the capability of belonging to multiple groups.  Is that possible?
    Thanks kindly.

    Hi Mdbarnharts,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your family members are using the same Apple ID to share purchases, and now you're receiving messages sent and received by your kids.
You can set up and manage Apple IDs for your children through the Family Sharing feature.
You can find more information about Family Sharing and setting up an Apple ID for your kids at these resources:

  • Sharing contacts using AirDrop, both users are members of the same Family Sharing group.

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine. He contacted me to help troubleshoot a problem where he was trying to share a contact with his wife using AirDrop. They both have new iPhone 5Ss running iOS 8.1. He can send a contact to his wife's iPhone but she can't send to him. While troubleshooting we noticed we could change the behavoir by changing the settings of who was a Parent/GardIan and who was an Adult in Family Sharing. For example we could change the behaviour so that she could share a contact with him but he could not share with her. We were never able to get it to work where they could share with each other both ways. It was one way only.
Anyone else who is part of a Family Sharing group having trouble using AirDrop to share between iPhones, particularly contacts?

    Hi,
The way to do this would be to first have a Lookup on the dimension based on the properties you want. You can then use this retrieved value in the REC statement.
This is an example for it:
    *DIM CATEGORY=CATEGORY
    *DIM TIME=TIME
    *LOOKUP RATE
    *DIM ENTITY2="DEFAULT"
    *DIM RATE=ACCOUNT.RATETYPE
    *DIM SOURCECURR:INPUTCURRENCY=ENTITY.CURR
    *DIM DESTCURR1: INPUTCURRENCY="USD"
    *DIM DESTCURR2: INPUTCURRENCY="EURO"
    *ENDLOOKUP
    *WHEN ACCOUNT.RATETYPE
    *IS "AVG","END"
    *REC(FACTOR=LOOKUP(DESTCURR1)/LOOKUP(SOURCECURR),CURRENCY=u201DUSDu201D)
    *ENDWHEN
    *COMMIT
    Hope this helps.

    Hi apples-consecutive-buyer-for-life,
Family Sharing makes all of your past purchases available to other family group members, including most apps. See this article on what content can be shared -

The temporary store holding charge that is made when you add or change the card details (to check that the card is valid and active and registered to the same name and address as on your account) should disappear within a few days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702 - it should be your card issuer that removes the hold, so you may need to contact them :
Authorization holds are removed by your financial institution shortly after your purchase clears. The amount of time it takes to remove authorization requests varies by financial institution.
If you have questions about the way your financial institution handles authorization requests, contact their customer service department.
If you want to contact iTunes support then you can do so via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Family sharing verification has an old credit card number to verify. I have updated the credit card info but it is still not appearing in the verification process asking for the security code of the card. How lng to have account info updated to cloud

I am trying to set up a family sharing with a new iMac and other Mac pro computer and other apple products. When I click to manage account and the add a member, I am told to verify the user by entering the security code from the credit card. The card listed is an old one and has since been changed. I updated the info on my apple account, but it is not getting to the iCloud for the family sharing. The number shown is the old card. When I enter a code it says invalid. How long does it take for the info to udate to all systems?

    Hi Mofro1,
Happy Holidays!  The resource below explains how to edit the credit card information for the Apple ID account that you want to use for Family Sharing.  Once you've made the changes, I would suggest you sign out of your iTunes Store on all of your devices, and then restart them.  The changes should take place quickly.  There is a link to the iTunes Store support below if you need more help.
Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID) - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT1918
Change your payment information on a Mac or PC
Click to open your account in iTunes. (You might need to sign in with your Apple ID.)
    Alternatively, you can:
    Open iTunes.
    Click iTunes Store.
Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
Click your Apple ID and select Account Info.
From the Account Information page, click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
You can see the payment methods that the iTunes Store accepts in the Payment Type section. If you want to remove the payment method, select None in the Payment Type section. See what to do if None isn't showing or you can't select it.
Change your information and click Done.
After you change your payment information, the iTunes Store places an authorization hold on your credit card.
    Family Sharing
If you’re using Family Sharing, and you're the family organizer, you can’t set your payment information to None. You need to use a credit card or debit card. Only the Family Organizer can edit payment information for a family group. If you're not the organizer, you'll see this message: "The payment method for your Family is managed by [Apple ID]."
    Get help
If you need help changing your payment information, credit card details, or billing information, contact iTunes Store support. Or you might find the answer to your question below:
If you change your payment method, make sure your account information matches the credit card information on file with your financial institution.
If you use an AOL screen name to sign in to the iTunes Store, editing your information on the Account Information page won't update your AOL account. If you need to update your AOL account information, contact AOL.
If your previous payment wasn't accepted, you might need to change your payment information.

  • Family Sharing vs using single iTunes account - can I switch?

I currently have my iTunes account used on my devices, and also use it for my daughters' iTunes account on their iPods. They do not have their own iCloud account at  all at this point.
I am planning to give them their own iCloud accounts with their new iPods at Christmas, and want to make sure I understand how Family Sharing works before committing to it. Some of what I have heard about it does not seem to be any better than what I currently do with my wife - we have our own iCloud accounts, but share the same account (mine) for purchasing.
If I set up my kids (age 10) under family sharing as kids, and would rather still use my account for purchases, is that possible? I assume that I could still enter my credentials into the purchasing section of their iPods, even though they have a kids iCloud account, correct? Or does it somehow lock out the ability to do that if you have the account set up for a child?
I probably will just use the family sharing setup, with their accounts set up for purchasing, but with me approving, but I want to be sure I can still put my account in instead as well, just in case I want more "control" over what they get.
    Does anyone know?

    Has anyone tried this?
If you have a child Apple ID set up under family share, can you put in your (adult) Apple ID into their "iTunes & App Store" section on their iPod, to effectively bypass the adult consent, but require me to put in MY password for their purchases on their device?
I want to give them their own Apple ID so they are not sharing mine for data. I am not wanting to fake their ages and set up their own adult account, but not sure I want to fully embrace the apparently cludgy Family Sharing setup by Apple.
If someone has their child set up under family sharing, can you try going to their "iTunes & App Store" section, and see if it would even allow you to enter in your iCloud credentials, or if it is locked out by family share? You shouldn't have to actually submit it to see.

  • Does each device in a family sharing group have to have its own Apple id?

When setting up the Family Sharing does each device have to use its own apple ID? I have 6 devices (each person has an iphone and ipad) I was wondering if I would have to have 6 different apple ID's. Also, is there really good step-by-step instructions on how to set it up anywhere?

No, if a family member has multiple devices, they can use the same ID on them.
