Family sharing itunes account

Family of 5 sharing itunes account can each have an individual icould account?

Yes, in fact it's recommended that you do.  you can create separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs and still share the same iTunes ID (the IDs do not have to be the same).  You should also use separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime to avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  Using your individual iCloud IDs for iMessage and FaceTime will accomplish this.

  • Family Sharing, iTunes Account NOT Apple ID

I'd like to turn on Family Sharing.
However, it seems the only way to turn on Family Sharing is through my Apple ID on my iOS device
Settings > iCloud > Family Sharing
The issue I have is that my iTunes and App Store purchases are not using my Apple ID. I created a different ID (long time ago) for iTunes. So, all my purchases are with this ID, not my Apple ID.
For example: on my iOS device
Settings > iCloud > [email protected]
Settings > iTunes & App Store > myitunesid (there is no @email.com associated with this ID)
All my iTunes (music and apps) purchases are with myitunesid ID, not with [email protected] ID.
I'm assuming if I active Family Sharing with my iCloud (actual Apple ID), there won't be any purchases associate with the account. Nor will there be, as long as I keep using the myitunesid account.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • From Shared itunes account to ios 8 Family Sharing

In my family everyone has his/her own icloud account for sync and backup and we all use a common i tunes account so we can use one credit card and share bought apps music etc..
Now that ios8 will come, with family sharing, how will this work?
if i set the shared itunes account as the main account, i'll "loose" one of the family members (me) as i have a separate icloud account. i don't want that. is the solution to move my icloud account to the former shared itunes account?
also, will ios 7 users (i.e. with iphone 4) be able to be included in the new family sharing?

As far as I know this is the only info that Apple have so far released about Family Sharing : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
It's not clear to me from that page how you will be set up e.g. whether in your case you could set up the shared iTunes account as the 'organiser' account and then use that to invite each of your own cloud accounts into it. It may be a case of waiting until further details are released later this year.
I'm assuming that a device will have to be on iOS 8 to benefit from it - the bottom of that page includes :
Some features require iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Some features require a Wi‑Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.

Move their iTunes library to it, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose it, log out of your iTunes Store account, and then into theirs. If the library contains rented movies, those won't play.

  • Migration Assistant (PC to Mac) and Shared iTunes Account

New Mac user here (other than iPhone), so be gentle.
So a couple of issues I need input on/help with, I'll try to keep it as short as possible. The short version is this...my wife and I both have iPhones which we've managed using a single iTunes account but separate libraries on our PC. With the addition of her MacBook Pro, looking for the best way to move forward that will allow her to manage her iPhone from her MacBook while I continue to manage mine with my PC without either of us losing access to currently shared purchases.
Now for the long version...When my wife and I first got iPhones 2 years ago, we kept a single shared iTunes account for ease of sharing music/apps...but have kept separate libraries. It seems to be increasingly difficult with new iOS updates and now an additional device (her new MacBook Pro) to maintain the libraries. For instance, Apps that one of us downloads that the other does not want automatically show up in the other's library or on their device. We have also had some some confusion with having multiple phone numbers linked to the one account. But I can't help think that we're too far down this path to go to separate accounts. If she got her own account would that not mean her losing access to any paid music/apps that we currently share? Then of course there's the issue of sharing future purchases. I'm clueless as how to handle this.
The other issue is migrating iTunes music/apps over to her new MacBook Pro from our PC. I went ahead and did this last night...but what I didn't realize is because the two computers had different usernames...her MacBook created a new username for the files so the only way to access the migrated music is for her to login as a different user. Is there anyway to easily fix this? I'm also concerned because of the shared iTunes account and multiple libraries, that even when I get the migration sorted out there will be issues with where her new Mac is looking for files. On our PC, the directory structure has become a bit convoluted...with the shared music/Apps spread out in multiple folders...
\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (contains my library and all purchases)
\My Documents\My Music\Her iPhone\ (contains her library and all purchases)
Not to mention the fact that when I migrated over, I migrated over everything...including all the music/apps that are not in her library.
Keep in mind I'm moderately PC literate...but completely Mac illiterate. Any and all help/input appreciated...thanks!

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, locate the migrated folder, drag it to the desktop, and provide your administrator password.

  • HT4859 I shared itunes account with my daughter, had never synced my phone with computer, synced with computer and chose daughter's phone instead of create new phone, all phone contacts are now gone replaced with daughter's - is there no way to get contac

I shared itunes account with daughter's phone, never synced my phone with home computer through itunes, synced tonight with itunes but choose her iphone and it restored all her info on my phone, all my phone contacts, text messages and photos are gone  - I had auto backup to icloud daily - is there any way to get phone numbers and texts back off icloud?

If you have been backing up to iCloud your camera roll photos, text messages and other data and setting should be contained in the backup.  Restoring the backup to the phone should recover them.
To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings (which will erase the phone), then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.

  • How do i move only my library from a shared itunes account to my new account

How do i transfer only my library from a shared itunes account to my new account

I am confused by terminology, not knowing what you mean by "iTunes account".  You have a computer account which is your user area on a computer.  You have an Apple ID that you use to buy items from the iTunes Store.  You have a media collection which is an iTunes library.  So what is your "iTunes account" and what exactly do you want to do?

  • Family Sharing iTunes iPhone6 = Worst Mistake Ever!

If you're thinking of switching from Android to iPhone - don't. May be the worst purchase I've made in my life.
My wife had an iPhone. I had Galaxy S5. We used 1 Apple ID. Everyone was OK. Then, we buy 2 new iPhone 6's and attempt to split between 2 separate Apple ID's using Family Sharing. Since I bought a MacBook last year, I thought "as long as everything is Apple, maybe things will be easier and simple." In concept, it all sounds so great. Reality is it delivers on none of the promises. Its been this way since the first iPod & iTunes was released. I probably should have known, but more than a decade has passed and they sell it so well at the retail store and Apple online. Frankly, I think Apple had defrauded all of us.
    1) Unless you want your iPhones to be absolute mirrors of each other, you cannot share a computer with iTunes. Not even on a MacBook. I know no one who wants this. If you read the terribly written and false "help" articles on Apple Support, they say you can/should use different accounts in OS X and iTunes. Through some elaborate file sharing schema you can duplicate all your media files on your hard drive (for each user) and perform manual searches and updates when making music purchases. There is absolutely nothing easy or user friendly about it. Even the simple act of restoring the ability to unselect the syncing of apps seems like would solve most people's complaints. Until then, its an utter mess at best.
    2) Family "Sharing". What a joke. This is not ready for beta much less GA. Searching the forums, EVERYONE is having massive issues with this. Lots of "work arounds" - which basically involve disabling & not using Family "Sharing" - but no resolution from Apple. Not even a post acknowledging the issue or advising on it. Not in the past 4+ months its clear customers have been mislead about how it should work but have found in practice it does not. Seems it may work for people who've never made an Apple purchase before starting Family Sharing, but I have my doubts.
When is Apple going to fix this crap? I'm honestly considering returning my phones and getting a pair of GS5's.
P.S. Since I'm ranting... ringtones. This was another Apple disaster I was reminded of in this process. If you have a ringtone you want to download or someone has sent you, the Android way (even Blackberry for crying out loud!) is simple: save & use. 5 seconds and you're off to the races.
User: "I have a ringtone on my phone I want to use."
Apple: "You don't want it on your phone, you want it on your computer."
User: "But its on my phone already."
Apple: "Yeah, but you need it on your computer."
User: "If I want to use it on my phone, why do I want it on my computer?"
Apple: "So you can transfer it to your phone."
User: "Huh? I have to transfer the ringtone from my phone to my computer so I can put it back on my phone?"
    Apple: "Yes. Make sense?"
User: "Only if you smoke crack."

Family Sharing still does not work. We're testing the 'delete & reinstall' method, but what a pain since pretty much every app fails to update. You lose all your data when you uninstall the app so you have to start from scratch all over again. Seriously need a fix for this since its a key element to sharing 1 iTunes on 1 MacBook.
Found a solution for sharing 1 iTunes on 1 MacBook without duplicating music files. Its not very elegant, but it seems workable.

  • HT4623 I updated my phone today on a shared itunes account ( with my daughter ).  We are both getting each other's messages now.  Seems to be tied to I message.  Any suggestions?

I updated my phone today on our family itunes account.  I currently have the iphone 4 and needed updates. At the end of the update I got a message that my phone info would now be the same as my daughter's ( who usually uses the itune account). I didn't have a yes or no option. It was a statement.  Now I am getting her text messgaes and she is getting mine if the other person has imessage.  I also got her app's when my phone updated.... HELP!

    Hi, jandmmiller.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on his device.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.  Once this is done, I would recommend creating a new Apple ID specifically for iMessage and FaceTime here.  Then he would need to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime with the new Apple ID.

  • Family Sharing - Combining Accounts

I have a family with a large collection of Apple devices. I have some questions about Family Sharing. I have read some of the documentation on the Family Sharing pages but it does not really answer my questions.
Due to some legacy items, we have basically two iTunes Accounts (three if you count one my daughter set up for school). I have one account (with some purchases) & the others are listed with my wife. This has the majority of purchases via iTunes. There are also some purchases on my daughter's school account.
Just recently, I reconfigured our iCloud Accounts to individual accounts for each family member. This was "required" for the changes brought about by iOS 8 & the changes with Find Friends App (need a separate iCloud account for each person). This has worked well.
Now for Family Sharing. I started it off my sending out an invite to my wife, which was accepted on my son's iPhone. Now, my wife is now my son according to Family Sharing (if this makes sense). It appears that I need to set up a separate iTunes Account for each person in my family. Before I go too far on something that I need to back out from (especially considering that everything is working OK at the moment), I need a heads-up on some questions:
Do I need to set up a separate account for each family member?
Since I have already created an iCloud account for each family member, is the iTunes account already created or do I have to create it separately?
Does Family Sharing work off the iTunes Account or the iCloud Account?
Once I have created an iTunes Account for each family member, I set up the Family sharing account under my iTunes Account & send an invite to each family member
Once they have accepted, then we can share iTunes purchases
This mean that my daughter (for example) will be able will be able to download the purchases we have already made under my wife account, even though she is logged on with another iTunes Accound
I will also be able to download the purchases made under my wife's iTunes account (even though I am the Family Sharing "organiser)
Finally, a question about synching with a iMac. I want to synch each device with just one computer in the house. Will this work? Each device will have separate iTunes account. Currently, there is the message about authorising for the iTunes account. What happens when there are multiple devices set up to synch on one computer. Is there anything special I have to do to get it to work (if it does work)?
Some detailed questions, but I have not been able to get clarity on what needs to happen.

I'm afraid that aliases remain tied forever to the account which created them - you can't move them to another account nor turn them into an actual account.

  • Family Sharing & iTunes gift cards??

I have two kids under 13 years of age, and I want us all to use the iTunes money we have on my (the "Organizer") account, but Family Sharing charges their purchases on my credit card, NOT my iTunes money. How can I change the primary payment to use iTunes money & not my credit card in Family Sharing? I tried disabling Family Sharing and just go back to what we were doing before (all devices on one apple id), but now I cannot even disable Family Sharing because my kids are under 13.

    Queen Bee,
There is no way to transfer a balance to another account.  However, if the balance is completely untouched, you can ask iTunes Customer Service to "un-redeem" the  card:

  • Shared Itunes account to new account - deleting Icloud information

I have always shared an Itunes account with my soon to be ex-husband, who will be keeping the account.  I need to remove my Iphone information (contacts notes etc) from Icloud but keep those contacts in my phone.  I have my own i tunes account already.  How do I make sure I can delete my information from my husbands account but not lose the contacts in my phone

Go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.  After everything is turned off you can safely scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from your phone, not from iCloud.  If his phone will continue to use thie account it will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on your phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting your contacts and other information from the old account, and deleting his contacts and other information from yours).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.
This will not move your photo stream, however.  If you have photos in photo stream that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account.  If your computer is syncing with your iCloud account, you can download your photo stream photos to your computer directly.  If not, you will need either open them one by one and save them to your camera roll or use an app like PhotoSync, which will wirelessly transfer photos from your photo stream album to your computer all at once.  (Without using an app like this your computer will only import camera roll photos, not photo stream photos.)
Finally, to change the ID used for purchasing go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign back in using your new ID.  To change the ID for iMessage go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in with your new ID.  Go to Settings>FaceTime and do the same thing.
