Family Sharing music download error

I Just set up a family sharing group with my brother, and we can share apps, but when I try to download his music, I receive an error stating the fioe cannot be downloaded. He has the same problem with my music purchases. It's only the music that has this issue. App sharing is working fine. is anyone else experiencing this problem? Please help.

Howdy mrscaskin,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you recently setup Family Sharing and are seeing an alert when trying to download a past purchase from the iTunes Store. The article linked below will explain the alert you’re seeing and provide information about using Apple IDs with multiple devices.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it, with a maximum of 5 computers at any time. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are currently associated with your Apple ID, remove unused devices or computers, and view how many days remain before the devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:
Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each device or computer was associated with your Apple ID. You will also be able to track how many days remain before your associated devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID.
I hope this helps.

  • Family Sharing Music w/ Match & 2 Apple IDs

I set up my Family Sharing and, ran Match successfully through Itunes to put all my music on the cloud (it took a few tries but all three steps completed for 2791 songs). When I try to access my music from the ID's I have varying results. On the devices with the same ID as the original account it appears all the songs are downloadable (just checked a few). But when I try accessing the music from my other ID it is totally random and only shows 247 of the songs available, most of which won't download anyway. I'll have some songs from an album make it over and others that won't. It doesn't appear to be related to whether or not I purchased them on Itunes or ripped them from my original CDs as I've seen some songs that made it across and others that didn't in both online purchases as well as original CDs. I ran Match again and it completed fine but no improvement on the itunes or music app end.
    Thoughts....

    Hi,
You cannot use iTunes match as part of Family Sharing.
Which purchased content can I share using Family Sharing - Apple Support -
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4627
    Note:
"There are a few things that you can't share:
Songs added to iTunes Match from outside the iTunes Store
    In-App Purchases
Items that are no longer available on the iTunes Store
    Items that were hidden
    Apps that aren't shareable
If you're on an Apple TV, you can't access shared music."

  • Family Sharing: Music, Photos + more won't share

    Hi!
I've searched through the discussion here and this seems to be a really common problem. But I'm hoping someone can offer assistance! Right now I have a mac book air (under my name) and an Iphone 5S both registered to my Apple ID. I'm the "organizer" and am family sharing with my boyfriend who has an iPad registered to his Apple ID. I really wanted to family share not for the apps (I only download free apps) but so we could share our music / movies/ and photos . But when I set everything up nothing is showing up on the iPad. I can't figure it out! My Mac Book and iphone are configured to family sharing and so is the ipad. I've tried re-starting everything, and inputting our information into icloud numerous times. If anyone could offer any assistance I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks!

http://Dumb69***@gmail.com hello sweetheart. Hope all is well. There is been many technical questions of this nature. However, I can help. First we need to do is sync everything together. I mean your life, your social standings and so forth I'll be in touch

  • Family Sharing music issue

I have an iPhone 6 and a Macbook Pro that are both updated to the latest software versions.  I have family sharing turned on on both and have been able to successful download some music on both devices. There are many songs that I try and download though that are not successful. On my iPhone it just says its unable to download at this time, on my mac it acts like it downloaded and then when I go to play the song it tells me that the computer is not authorized and the box to authorize pops up.  This only happens with certain songs other songs play just fine and my computer has been authorized with my apple id forever.  Please Help!

    Hello Fallik,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. Family Sharing is normally used to share content between different accounts from multiple people in the same family. Is the content you are having issues downloading or playing content that was purchased by a different member of your Family Group? If so, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Family sharing spouse gets error

I have added my husband to Family Sharing and he can see my installed apps on his phone but when he tries to download he gets the following error:
    Unable to Download
To download shared content, your family must have a valid payment method.
I went into our MAC BOOK AIR and edited the payment method from paypal to Discover. All looks good. Restarted his phone, the mac and still get the error. Any ideas on how to get this to work properly?

Somehow the iTunes/App Store is not accepting the payment method. Try to contact iTunes Support. There could be something wrong at their end.

  • New phone, family sharing music all gone

    Hello all,
I just replaced my wife's phone.  We are both on iOS8.  I set up family sharing and I am the organizer.  When I set up her ID on her last phone we went into purchased music, movies, etc. and downloaded them to her phone.  When I replaced her phone today and restored from a iCloud backup, no music or movies are there.  With family sharing will my wife how to re-download music and movies every time she upgrades phones?  Do we have to go back through the long process of weeding though all my purchased albums etc.  I would've thought that once she downloaded everything she wanted once, iCloud would keep it all intact.
    Any info is appreciated!
    Bob

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If other music is not on your computer or iPod it is gone.

  • New iPhone Family Sharing App Store Error Message

    All,
Not sure if this is the right community to ask this question.  If not please move it.
I just got a new iPhone 6 Plus.  I set it up as new rather than restore from backup of my old iPhone.  I signed into my own iCloud account for iTunes/Apps, Family Sharing and etc. I am a parent/guardian and NOT the organizer.
The issue is when I go to the App Store>Purchased on the 6 Plus, I notice the following message:
"This iTunes account is setup to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than [email protected] Learn More"
I do see my other family members and their purchases.  I am also able to download their purchases as well.  So Family Sharing on the App Store appears to be functioning properly with the exception of the message.  iTunes and iBooks do not show the message.
My old iPhone and my iPad also do not display this message when I go to the App Store.
    Any ideas?

I experienced this problem, too -- and with the help of an Apple support rep, figured out a way out.
Go into Settings and turn off automatic date and time, and set your phone back a year. Then go back and turn automating date and time back on, to get back to the present. Now go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores, click on your AppleID, and re-enter it and your password. Finally, go back to the App Store (or iTunes Store) and try to download what you had been trying before -- and if you're like me, it will now pop up with a new set of Terms and Conditions for you to approve. After you approve, you'll be able to download whatever you had been trying to.
It appeared, in my case, that Apple needed to present me with a new Terms & Conditions to approve, but for some reason, iOS 6 and the Apple mother ship weren't communicating correctly about how to do that, and I was stuck with the "Could Not Sign In" message. Changing the iPhone's time and/or re-signing in via Settings > iTunes & App Stores resolved the roadblock for some reason. Hope this works for others as well!

  • Family sharing music who work on different computers

    hi everyone,
here is the question, which will start with a long explaination.
my desktop computer is the "main" computer of the house. i have about 35,000 songs on it in my itunes. everyone in the house (wife & son) uses my music (which is everyone's music) for their entertainment. when we buy music (either online or the physical cd) it's downloaded on my computer and into my itunes. my wife has a few songs on her itunes on her computer and my son is going to get an ipod touch and will start purchasing songs for that on a separate computer. so, we will have 3 computers that will potentially be purchasing different music. in addition to the 3 computers, i am relocating to a different city for work and will be commuting back and forth when i can. my question for the community is, how can we all share our music? since my son hasn't gotten his ipod touch yet and my wife doesn't have anything on her itunes yet (all of her music is on my computer and in my itunes), would it make sense for everyone to share my ID and password and then either email or dropbox purchased music (and imported music) to each other or is there a simpler, easier, better way to do this? i understand that we could share everything if we lived in the same house but since i'll be in a different location, i'm a bit stumped on how to make this work.
any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

There are three ways to address your dilema:
    1) Most expensive and difficult to set up: Media server like the HP EX series ($500) and a VPN (virtual private network) capable router (~$150 to $200). All media goes onto the server. All PC iTunes are set to point to the Media server instead of the default folder on C:\   As new files are added to the media server the iTunes set to point to it will also 'see' the new files.   There are additional setting that have to be made but that's the overview.
    2) Cheapest and easiest to set up: NAS (Network attached storage) (~100 to 300). Like above all media goes onto the NAS. All iTunes are set to point to the NAS instead of the default folder on C:\  The disadvantage of course is that you will not be able to share your stuff or have access to the stuff on the NAS until you come home and resynch everything.
    3) Middle of the road: NAS and a VPN capable router.  The only real disadvantage here is that a NAS is pretty "dumb" and is slower than a media server. Especially if more than one person is using it. They also rely on the router explicitly for security since many do not have an OS to run security software. Some of the more elaborate NAS's do but when you start talking more than $200 I would consider a home media server instead.
    Hope this helps.
P.S. your account and password (iTunes store) will be needed for anyone that wants to use media that you've purchased regardless of which method you go with. The DRM license is stored on each individual computer that accesses it.

  • Sharing music downloaded from CDs in itunes

I have the orginal ipad but the pc i used to set it up an sync is no longer working. I downloded music from my personal cd collection to the ipad using itunes cd reader.  I have all this music on the ipad and just purchased a new ipad mini.  How can a share the music from my old ipad with my new ad mini?  Icloud only stores music i have purchased through itunes?  What about music from old cds i own?

Sharing only works from a computer to a computer or device, you can't share between devices. For your purchased music, whether that is available for redownloading depends upon what country that you are in (it's not possible in all countries), and whether the music is still in your country's store (rights-holders occasionally remove their items from a country's store) - so there is no guarantee that it will all show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your Mini
If you don't have copies of your own music on your computer or on your backup of your library then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from your old iPad so that you can then sync it to your Mini : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
