Family Sharing on the Apple TV 3

I Have multiple apple products, of which are some apple tv's. until a few days ago all the devices were using the same Apple ID which was mine. We recently decided to use separate Apple id's for our family members, and using family sharing among the devices.
The problem/concern I have since enabaling family sharing is that my iTunes movie purchases on the Apple TV no longer has an "all movies" option, and instead has a "shared movies" option right below the "recent purchases".
my first question is, what is what happened to the "all movies" category? I found this option very helpful and useful. Sure all my iTunes movie purchases are still categorized by genre. I liked how the "all movies" showed how many movies I have purchased, and I kinda enjoyed looking through all the movies to find one to watch.
My second question is, how can I get that option back whilee still using family sharing?

AppleTV 2 and 3's main icon Music section is a shambles.
There should be a Music store as there was on AppleTV1. Crazy you can't access Purchases unless subscribed to itunes Match.
As Winston says you are probably not looking in the correct place for local streaming of your music library.

  • Family sharing with 2 Apple IDs

Hello!  I just upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks, and have a question about Family Sharing.  The family just consists of 2 adults (with 5 Apple devices between us).  I have my own Apple ID for iCloud stuff, email, etc., and the other family member has her personal ID, plus we have an old Apple ID of mine that is used as a shared ID for purchases.  That is, I have [email protected] as my personal ID [not the real ID, just an example], she has [email protected], and we share the old [email protected], and we use that last ID for iTunes, App Store, and Mac App Store purchases.  That way we can both download music, apps and book using the same ID and share them across all 5 devices.  This was set up for us at an Apple store and has worked well - it is an old way of doing family sharing.
    Questions:
    1. Is there any good reason to switch over to the new Family Sharing setup instead of just keeping this?
    2.  If I do switch to the new Family Sharing, would I use my newer [email protected] as the primary, or keep this old .mac ID?  Or does it matter?
    3.  If I do switch to the newer [email protected], would we lose all my old purchases made with the old .mac ID?
    Thank you all so much!

  • I set up Family sharing but the invite email never arrives at one of the accounts. Any suggestions? Yes, the account is receiving other emails.

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup Family sharing but the invite email doesn't arrive at the destination account.
The account receives other emails and i've checked the Spam filter and virus checker.
The source/host computer is an iMac running Yosemite. I can happily email from the iMac to the MacbookAir.
    Any suggestions or workarounds?

    Hi there _Man,
I understand that you are having an issue with some of your Family Sharing members not receiving the email in order to join your Family Sharing group. You should first try to resend the invitation to this person, using the information in the article below:
See if your family member accepted the invitation
After you send the invitation, you can check its status under the person's name in Settings > iCloud > Family on your iOS device. On your Mac, go to Apple menu > System Preferences, click iCloud, and select Manage Family. Then select that person's name to see the status of the invitation.
If you need to resend the invitation, select "Resend Invitation."
    Join a family group
You can accept or decline an invitation to join a family from you iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
In iOS 8, go to Settings > iCloud > Invitations.
In OS X Yosemite, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family.
If the invitation is sent to your email address, you can also respond right from your email.
To accept an invitation, follow the onscreen instructions. Here's what you'll be asked to do when you join:
Confirm your Apple ID and password.
Choose if you want to share your content and which iTunes Store account you want to share from.
Choose if you want to share your location. If you agree, your location can be displayed on family members’ devices in Find My Friends and Messages, and the location of your shared devices will also appear on family members’ devices in Find My iPhone.
If you can't accept the invitation, see if someone else joined a family with your Apple ID or is sharing purchased content from your Apple ID. Remember, you can only join one family at a time, and you can only switch to a different family group once per year.

  • Will family sharing allow multiple Apple IDs to backup to the same Mac?

So currently, my family shares one Apple ID so we can share purchases.  We also share the same iCloud account.  I think that technically you can share one Apple ID for purchases and use multiple iCloud accounts, but that seems confusing.
Anyway, so my wife is getting a new iPhone soon and would like it if we didn't see each other's podcasts in the Podcasts app, etc, so I'm wondering if, now that we have family sharing coming, it would be a good idea for her to get her own Apple ID.  However, we have one "Master iMac" that serves to backup all the iDevices in our home and has our shared family library of music, movies, etc.  If she gets her own Apple ID, will she still be able to back her new iPhone up to this iMac or will she be forced to use her iCloud account for her phone's backup?  iTunes on the iMac uses the current Apple ID, which we all share.
Apple IDs have consistently been the single most frustrating thing for us and the approach for sharing one ID has worked well.  I wish Apple had come out with Family Sharing years ago.  Anyway, now I want to make the transition as painless as possible.

I apologize, but my grammar and spelling were full of errors They "received" iPad minis...
And I am afraid that they will "lose" (not love) all of their data.
    Thanks.

  • How To Use Family Sharing on one Apple ID ?

OK....I like the new family sharing but I got around this in past in creative way.
I have one AppleID that whole family uses.....no iCloud, only use ITunes to Sync, and on each iPhone or iPad for Text & Facetime I disable in settings all but that phone # and/or email for that user.  Obviously all the emails for the family are loaded/verified in my Apple ID.
For payment I had no Credit Card on account but bought the kids iTunes gift cards.
I'm trying to avoid having to setup a bunch of Apple ID accounts.
I'm hoping I can get best of both worlds........but have not upgraded any device to iOS8 yet so have not tried.
I'd like to keep the single AppleID, load in Credit Card info, go to Share and invite the other family members, set restrictions, etc.
However, my question is will/how does the "invite" work if all members are listed under same Apple ID ?
    Thx.

  • Family Sharing vs One Apple ID

    Scenario before IOS 8:
My iPhone 5S linked to iCloud with MY AppleId.
iMessage - MY AppleId & my phone number.
FaceTime - MY AppleId & my phone number.
Find my Friends - MY AppleId
         AppleStore - MY AppleId.
         Home Sharing - MY AppleId
My wife's 5S linked to ilCloud with MY AppleId.
iMessage - HER AppleId & HER phone number
Facetime - HER AppleId & HER phone number
Find My Friends - HER AppleId
         AppleStore - My AppleId
         Home Sharing - My AppleId
Our family iPad3 linked to MY AppleId
         iMessage - my second AppleId
         FaceTime - my second  AppleId
Find My Friends  - my Second AppleId
         AppleStore MY AppleId
         Home Sharing MY AppleId.
Our family iMac. Only one acount linked All services with MY AppleId
We share all App Store and iTunes purchases, iTunes Match, Photo Stream (we love this feature, authomatic broadcast all photos to iphones, ipad, imac and pcs)
We don't share messages, facetime settings neither locations and our friends allways can get my location or my wife's.
BUT we have only 5Gb free iCloud storage for backup iphones and ipad.
Scenerio after IOS 8 and Family Sharing is setted up.
My iphone 5s - my appleId all services.
My wife's 5S - HER appleId all services.
OUR iPad - My daughter (unter 13yo) new AppleId
OUR  iMac - Only one account - MyAppleId all services.
We share new purchases, and a shared streram. Not iTunes Match neither old purchases,
We dont share messages, facetime settings neither location (findMyFriends).
WE have 5Gb free iCloud storage per IOS Device for backups
BUT We cant share a photo stream AUTHOMATIC like my photostream was. We can not download my wife's iphone 5S photos to our family iMac, only my iphone photos.
We choose get back to old settings. My wife login icloud with MY AppleId. We get back sharing photo stream BUT NOW WE SHARE LOCATION in find my friends. Its all about a new restriction: We can only share location by One device. Apple has linked findMyFriends to iCloud account. EPIC FAIL. We need a login at find my friends in order to log in with differents appleIds.
We are dissapointed with Family Sharing but it's worst than we've supposed because getting back to old scenario with IOS 8 is impossible mission.
    somebody help us please.
(Sorry about my english. I write from Spain).

    Hi Jastect,
In order to edit an Child Apple Id you can just go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and log as your daughter and edit all data (except id itself and birthdate). This is possible only if you know the password :-) even without knowing, the recovery procedure is working fine.
    In my case:
    - I created an Child apple ID (as described in Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids), child is -13y
    - As mentioned in Leave Family Sharing : "Children under 13 can't be removed from a family. If you need to, you can transfer the child to another family or delete their Apple ID". ok, fair enough. Then I want to delete the id... But I cannot find where the delete option is available ???
    Hopefully someone can help.

  • Need advice on how to best approach Family Sharing, multiple devices, Apple IDs, etc.

My wife and I both have iPhone 5's (soon to be 6's) running iOS 8, I have an iPad (v2) running iOS 8, and my wife just got a MacBook Air (running Mavericks, soon to be Yosemite). We also have Apple TV (v2) running the latest OS. That's five Apple devices shared between a husband and wife (not counting my two-year-old's unsupported iPhone 4 used for kid games).
We have always just used the same Apple ID for everything. However, things are changing fast. We have both upgraded to iOS 8, we will soon be getting iPhone 6's, she now has a MacBook Air that will soon support Continuity, and we will purchase iCloud Drive storage for our iPhone 6's to free up photo/video storage space from our phones. We need to rethink and reorganize how we manage these devices because my wife does not want my email, iMessages, contacts, or Safari bookmarks showing up on her new MacBook, but she would like to use the upcoming Continuity feature.
In the perfect world, we would like the following: We would like to have separate: 1) email, 2) iMessages, 3) contacts, 4) Safari bookmarks, and 5) photos/videos. But we would like to have access to: 1) each others' backed up photos and videos stored on the new iCloud Drive, 2) iTunes, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases, and 3) a shared family calendar.
Right now, using the same Apple ID on all five devices, we are able to successfully do all of the above by setting up different email accounts on each device, by designating different phone numbers and email addresses on each device, etc. However, when my wife set up her new MacBook Air this morning, she told it to import Contacts from the Apple ID, but it looks like it imported everything from an old iCloud backup of my device. How can my wife totally integrate and sync her own iPhone and MacBook Air without getting the bookmarks, contacts, etc. from my iPhone? Is there a way to do this, whether through same/different Apple IDs, the new Family Sharing mechanism, or a combination of both? Any considerations or advice that I am not thinking of?
    Thanks so much,
    New At This
PS - I am very computer literate and can implement complicated solutions if necessary, but I am not familiar with any cross-device sharing options or even the OS X interface at all.

here's a mockup of sorta what I'm going for:

  • Help using family sharing and separate apple id's

My husband and I are currently using the same Apple ID and I would like to separate our devices by creating a new apple ID for one of us. What is the best way to do this? Will family sharing make this easier? I am not using family sharing currently. I want to make sure that the user with the new Apple ID doesn't lose everything.

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library. Note that once done you cannot "share" apps under a single Apple ID. Each of you must purchase your own apps under your own Apple ID. When you decide to split up like this one of you will need to re-purchase the apps that they want to use.
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • Family Sharing / Delete child apple ID

    On this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201081

  • How to stop family sharing on my apple id

Family share is now on, which requires a credit card. I want to remove the card info and use cash gift cards from apple. Family does not allow cash nor paypal. So no family sharing for me. How do I turn it OFF.

  • Family sharing with multiple apple ids

Just a question about family sharing. My husband and I have decided to have separate apple ids but family sharing allows us to share purchases but does this also include iCloud storage or do we each have 5GB. Also if we do this route with our son what happens to his purchases we've approved when he decides he doesn't want to be on family sharing when he's 18.

    Hi Nat8506,
Happy Holidays!  I've included complete information for Family Sharing below, but to answer your specific questions:
Each Apple ID has it's own 5 GB of iCloud Storage
Once you son turns 18, if he decides to leave the Family Sharing, any purchases made with his Apple ID will remain his and no longer available to the family.

Leave Family Sharing - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201081
What happens to your content when you stop sharing?
When you leave Family Sharing, your Apple ID is removed from the family group, and you stop sharing music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps with any remaining family members. In addition, any photos, calendars, and reminders shared by the family group will be removed from your devices. If you chose to share your location, you'll stop sharing your location with other family members, and your devices will be removed from the family Find My iPhone device list.
Any content that your family shared with you isn't automatically removed from your device. You can purchase it again or remove it to free up space on your device. If you downloaded an app from a family member’s purchase history and made In-App Purchases, you'll need to purchase the app yourself to access your In-App Purchases.
Any DRM-protected music, movies, TV shows, books, or apps that you previously downloaded from other family member's collections will no longer be usable, and other family members won't be able to use content downloaded from your collection. Learn more about Digital Rights Management (DRM) in iTunes for Mac or iTunes for Windows.
You'll keep any purchases you initiated while part of the family group. However, if the organizer was paying for your iCloud storage or any other ongoing subscriptions, you'll need to start paying for them yourself using a valid payment method on your account. Learn how to add a credit or debit card to your iTunes Store account.

  • Setting up family sharing with new Apple ID

I have an apple ID with lots of music and apps on it.  When my son (14) got an iPod Touch, we set it up using my apple ID so that he could access all the music and games I had already purchased without buying them again.  We then associated his own email address with it for FaceTime and iMessage.
Now I want to set up an Apple ID for him using his email address and then set up family sharing.  But I am concerned that when we sign out of my iTunes account and into his new one, he might lose the content already on his iPod.  We can always add it all again as it is all on my account and on iTunes Match, but it will be a pain to do.
What will happen when we change over the apple ID on the iPod?
Also a follow up question - my 11 year old daughter has a 4th gen iPod on ios6.  I assume she can't use family sharing?

Have you worked through the guidance on Family Sharing given in:Family Sharing

  • Can I set up family sharing for the calendar without paying for everyone's purchases?

I would like to set up family sharing so we can share a calendar, see each other's location, etc. but I don't want to pay for everyone's purchases.  Can we set up family sharing without that feature?

When you added the card, did it take a number of goes to get it accepted ? Each time that you add or change your credit card details on your account a small temporary store holding charge (i.e. $1) may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - your card issuer should remove it from your card within a few days or so.

  • Family sharing changing the organizer

My father was the original family sharing organizer but I need to be b/c I need to mange her buying of apps and music.  I was unable to add him as a family member after he opted out of that role.  I was told by apple that there is a 6 month window for him to rejoin the family should he choose to opt out.  However b/c he had never been a member the support again had me log out of iCloud and then log back in and I was able to add my father.  The support agent was wonderful.  The case number was: 676523535

    Hi Mike,
I have no idea about family sharing, but I would recommend to think twice before actually changing the country for your account if you bought (many) movies and tv shows with it. Why? Because if you purchased many movies/tv shows and change the country, Apple will compare your purchases from the US with the media available in the German iTunes Store (mostly on with German sound track) and if something isn't available you will lose the iCloud re-download option for previous purchases. Furthermore some apps/services (e.g. Beats Music, Facebook Paper) are not available in Germany.
    With kind regards,
    David
