Family sharing & two Apple IDs

I have two AppleIDs - one for my iCloud (email etc) and a second for all Store purchases. I share the Store AppleID with my kids' iPads so that we can share purchases as per this recommendation ( Using your Apple ID for Apple services ). And that has worked 100% for years :-)
So today I'm trying to set up family sharing - I _think that I need to share the 2nd AppleID account - the store one right - so that all my existing purchases are accessible?
Trouble is that when I set up Family Sharing on my iPhone, it defaults to the AppleID I set ios8 up with - in this case, my iCloud email AppleID.
So to change that, I need to log out of iCloud and log in again with my other ID (the Store purchases AppleID) in order to share it on Family Sharing...
But I've stopped at this step ... if I do this, will I be able to back out again and change my default iCloud account back to my primary (email) one ??
Am I missing a trick here because surely loads of people have used the two AppleID approach to share purchases with other devices ?
Thanks for any info :-)

No.  All iTunes store IDs in a family sharing group must be from the same country/region.

  • Sharing Music between two Apple IDs

My son is buying and iphone for the first time today. The problem is that he has fill his old ipod with music he purchased using my Apple ID. Is there a way to share the iTunes music between both IDs? Can I duplicate the itunes music folder so that his ID has it own music and my would continue to have all of my music? Any assistance would be great.
I have seen some articles, but unsure if they will accomplish this task. Thanks!

  • How to Set up Family Plan when you have two Apple IDs?

I stopped short of setting up Family plan because my wife and I have two Apple IDs each: One for iTunes ad one for iCloud.  This was caused by migrating from long ago Apple "cloud" services.
The set up seems to assume you have a single ID for each person and there are no instructions to set it up using hyour current iTunesa and iCloud IDs.
Has anyone successfully set up Family Plan while they have two sets of Apple IDs?

finally I found someone else with my dilemma.
I have my iTunes/AppStore ID with all my purchases and my iCloud ID with everything else.
this is a major issue that needs to be addressed.
    thank you.

  • I'd like to know tips for sharing apps between my wife and myself on two iPads with two apple IDs and one computer.

I'm new to iTunes, app store, and managing content on two iPads and an iPod. I manage both iPads and an iPod on one computer, but we have two apple IDs. All my music is on a home-theatre pc. I don't really understand home sharing yet, and I am hoping for some tips from experienced users to keep me from losing content, or mixing up apps and confusing digital rights etc.

You cannot share apps, or any other content purchased from the iTunes Store, between two different Apple IDs.  Those purchases are tied to the Apple ID.

  • Can Home Sharing service two Apple IDs at once?

We have two Apple IDs, so some of our music and movies in iTunes have been purchased with one ID, and some with the other.  I'm setting up Home Sharing, and want to make sure that all the music and movies will be available to us at all times.
Am I correct in the following assumption?  If Home Sharing is turned on to my account on both iTunes and the iPad, I'll be able to access ALL the music and movies, and if Home Sharing is turned on to my wife's account on both iTunes and iPad, we'll also be able to access everything exactly the same?
Is there any drawback here to having two accounts?
    Thanks in advance ...

It's true that a wireless adapter (e.g. airport extreme card) can only join one network at a time since it has a single radio. But if you got, for instance, a wifi USB dongle then you could use this to connect to a second network. Disclaimer: I've not tested this configuration myself. But having multiple active network interfaces is certainly supported so I expect it to work.

  • Setup Family Share with Two Apple IDs

Apple has long prevented customers from merging two Apple IDs associated with the same person. With Family Share I thought I might be able to finally share all of my purchases between my two Apple IDs. But I'm not sure how to go about it. One Apple ID is associated with an @mac.com e-mail address. The other @me.com. But when I go to add the former Apple ID account, I get a message that I can't add my own account as a family member. So I'm a little stuck.
Shouldn't I be able to add my other Apple ID as a "family member", so that I can access all the purchases made through it?
Has anyone done this, is there a trick to making it work? Can I re-assign my other Apple ID to a "different user" account to bypass this problem?

    Hi Woodwyn,
Happy Holidays!  As I understand it - there are two possible scenarios you can try if you have iTunes Store content on multiple Apple IDs.  Review the information below and try the path the best suits your situation.
Scenario 1 - Change your Apple ID to a different address
You could rename the Apple ID that you are not currently using as your primary Apple ID for the iTunes store to a different email address, like a Gmail or Yahoo account.  This article explains how to do that:
Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667
    Change your Apple ID
Learn how to change the email address that you use as your Apple ID.
In most cases, your Apple ID is also the primary email address of your Apple ID account. You can change your Apple ID to any other email address you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID. If your email address ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, it's already an Apple ID.
Use these steps to reset your Apple ID:
Sign out of iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, and iMessage on each device that uses your current Apple ID for these services.
    Go to My Apple ID.
Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in. Forgot your password?
Select Edit next to Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID, then select Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now. Didn't receive the email?
When the My Apple ID page opens, sign in with your new Apple ID email address and password. When you see a message that verification is complete, you can start using your updated Apple ID.
Update the features and services that you use with Apple ID, so that each one is using your updated Apple ID.
If you need to change the Apple ID that's signed in to your iOS device, use these steps to sign out, then back in with a different Apple ID.
Scenario #2 - Get all of the content from multiple Apple ID's onto one iOS device
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204053
Can I merge multiple Apple IDs into one?
No. You can't merge two or more Apple IDs into a single one. You can, however, use one Apple ID for iCloud services and another Apple ID for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). See “Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases” for details. Can I change the name of my Apple ID?

Yes. For example, if you get a new email address, you can change your Apple ID from your old address to your new address. @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed.I have purchased music, apps, or books with multiple Apple IDs. How can I get all of this content onto my iOS device?
First, copy all of your purchased content so that it's on the same Mac or PC with iTunes. This computer should be the one you sync your device with.
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between computers
iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between computers
Next, authorize your computer to play content with each Apple ID in iTunes. After your computer is authorized for all of your content, it can be synced to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. How do I restore an iOS device from an iCloud Backup if I use different Apple IDs for iCloud and store purchases?

When you're first prompted for your Apple ID during the restore process, enter the Apple ID you use for iCloud. After your device restarts, you will be presented with another Apple ID prompt before items from the App Store and iBooks Store begin restoring. This time, sign in with the Apple ID you use for Store purchases.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Two apple IDs or one when sharing info

My husband and I have been using one apple ID for both of our iPads.  With family sharing, we are considering each having our own an apple ID.  We are concerned however that the family sharing will not allow the actual information in our eWallet app to sync across all devices like it does now.  Are we correct in our concern?

That actually is the whole point of family sharing.  Up to six family members can each have their own AppleID (so their iCloud and iMessage accounts using those AppleIDs are private) but can share purchased material from effectively a single iTunes Store, App Store and iBook Store account.
However, third party apps do not use family sharing, only Apple's stores and tools.  So your eWallet app is a problem.  Without knowing the app, my guess is that the eWallet app is sync'ing content via iCloud, since with a single AppleID you both are using the exact same iCloud and iMessage accounts.
You can still create new AppleIDs for family sharing of Apple stores purchased content, but keep using the existing AppleID for iCloud.  If you want, you can also have another AppleID for private iMessage accounts.  You can have as many AppleIDs as you wish, although each one needs a unique email address to create. And you can use a different AppleID with each separate Apple service (purchased content, iCloud, iMessage, these forums,...).
    - so - current AppleID for iCloud so you can not only sync the eWallet app, but other 3rd party app content, or notes, documents and so forth.  The only downside to this is you have to share one iCloud email account, but presumably that hasn't been a problem thus far anyway.
    - iTunes, App and iBook store - one of you at least creates a new AppleID and sets that up under family sharing
    - if you wish, use that or another AppleID for iMessage so you each have a private messaging account.

  • I have two apple ids somehow, probably from two mobile and two computers - how do I merge them into one account so they all work with iCloud?

Somewhere, somehow, between two mobile and two macs, I ended up with two apple ids. I figured that this was the root of my problem to syncing. So, I am syncing Mail, Contacts, etc through the one account that I bought storage on this year in iCloud. I want to merge the two accounts, since many of my apps were purchased with my other id. Apparently, Keynote will not merge files since the app was bought with the second id, not the id I am using for icloud.
What to do??? I read, in the forums, that I am definitely not alone. I always had the id I used for the Apple Store to buy iTunes items, and then apps. The other id, that I am using for iCloud was based on my iDisk id, and apparently I set up as a separate account. The much failed iDisk account appears to be the one that I wish I never got involved with. Should I feel the same way about iCloud. If I cannot merge the two APPLE accounts from the same person (ME!!!), then many dropbox really is the answer for my file sharing needs.
    Please help me decide.

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
To go back to your question; you cannot merge accounts, but perhaps using one account for iCloud and the other for iTunes will resolve the majority of the reasons you needed to merge to begin with.

  • Using two apple IDs on one Itunes account

I recently purchases a ipad for my 86 year old mother. I want to also add music to it that I have cd's for. She now has an Apple ID of her own and I have my own Apple ID. The problem is this, when I log out of my itunes account and log in as her, I can still see all my music library as her. How do I see NOTHING under her account, until I actually load in music for her. Then can i sync her ipad using my OWN Mac and have it appear on her ipad? I have not enabled home sharing at all. Thank you!

Phil, I am confused about your statement/answer:
""Is it possible to create two Apple IDs on one iTunes account?"
    Yes.  I have two."
    Apple says:
"An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID."
Thus an Apple ID is the same as the iTunes account.
Did you mean can yu use more than one Apple ID on one iPod because yuo know the answr is yes.
Or have I go something wrong?

  • Can't merge two apple IDs and can't download purchases from both onto the same iMac

Some time ago I discovered that I had inadvertently created two apple IDs. One that I had used many years ago as a student and then the other I created when I bought my first iPhone. These days I only use the newer account I created however I still own a few songs which were purchased on the older account back when I was a student. SO recently I logged into the older account to get those old songs that I'd purchased and download them onto my work iMac - GREAT! ...Right up until I wanted to now download some newer songs I'd recently purchased directly onto my iPhone using the new account - UH-OH! NOPE! I'm not allowed to download those songs for 90 days! Are you frickin kidding me?! They're both MY accounts! They're both linked to me - use the same details, same address, same credit card, same everything else!!! But apple won't let me download songs that I now own for 3 months onto my iMac because I happen to have two accounts. This is insanely ridiculous! I would happilly merge the two accounts if it was possible but of course there is no way to do this either. I understand that the intention is to stop people from sharing songs by linking to a friends apple ID and downloading their songs, however I am in no way trying to do this. I just want to have access to all the songs that I own on all my machines. I want to listen to songs that I have legitimately purchased on my work machine as well as on my iPhone, my iPad and my home iMac. Surely this is not too much to ask? C'mon apple!! Can't you find a way to either link/merge my two accounts or to verify that they both belong to the same person so I don't run into this problem? I don't think I should have to wait 3 months to get access to songs I have purchased!

    1. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.
    2. Use the Transfer Purchases function to import them from the iOS devices, and manually move the iTunes libraries between the computers.

  • ITunes Match - Two Apple IDs but the Same Person

So before the days of iCloud, I originally used my AOL email as my Apple ID. Then when I signed up for iCloud, I started using my .Mac email as my new Apple ID. Today, I just signed up for iTunes Match using my .Mac Apple ID. Somehow throughout this process my iPhone stayed under my AOL Apple ID. Now my phone is telling me I have to wait 90 days before the "new" Apple ID takes affect and I will then be able to use Match. I have just spent $25 for something I can't even use for 90 days?!?! Really?
As you can imagine, I'm very frustrated because I know this is a simple mistake. I'm worried I just spent $25 for a full year and the first 3 months of that year will go to waste. Can anyone help me? A number I can call? Anything? I'm the same person, paying for music and apps with the same bank account! My Apple IDs just got mixed up.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the link, but no luck.
They told me that there is absolutely no way to waive the 90 day waiting period regardless if am the same person or not. The only reason I have a new Apple ID was because I assumed I had to make a new Apple ID when I signed up for iCloud. At the end of day, it was my fault but I wish I knew I never had to make a new Apple ID. I would have just stayed with my “old” AOL Apple ID.
With that said, I still think it is ridiculous they can’t waive the 90 day waiting period. I’m the same person! I just have two Apple IDs, and the only reason I have two Apple IDs to begin with was because I felt mislead by Apple’s iCloud. It’s not like I’m trying to share my music illegally with my friends or another person. Its all the same money coming from the same person...me!
Being a die-hard Apple consumer for almost 10 years and convincing my entire family to switch to Mac, today I feel very disappointed in Apple.

  • Two Apple IDs, one iCloud ID, will it work?

Two Apple IDs, one iCloud ID, will it work?
In my house we have two iPhones and one Mac.  My husband and I have two separate Mac accounts, separate  iTunes accounts and one common Mobile Me account we use to synch Calendar and Address book between our Mac and our devices.  In our separate iTunes libraries we have separate songs, podcast settings, and separate apps.  We use one common iPhoto library for our two Mac accounts (which we keep on an external volume with Permissions disabled, to avoid file privilege issues in iPhoto.
It's all working well with MobileMe, but I'm concerned iCloud will make a big mess.
    We want common calendar.
    We want common address book.
We want separate Apps (no room for us both to have all apps).
We want some shared reminders (like shopping list) but some separate ones (like work tasks).  I understand there is a bug about this, but I don't know the resolution (https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/4/wo/lHQWT8NZajvGPvP 7ObMPj0/8.66)
We don't care much about common PhotoStream (as long as it works for one of us).
How can we make this all work, when we move to iCloud?
How do we control what synchs and what does not synch?
Has anyone done this kind of complex setup before?
    Thanks,
    Peter

I have this same issue and have since day one. I cannot seem to figure out how to get into icloud.

  • Got two apple ids on an ipod touch. How do you make one the default?

Got two apple ids on an ipod touch. One child shared account with other sibling. Has now set up own apple id and wants that one to be default id. Every time goes to apple id, shared one comes up. How do we change the settings so that new id is the default?

Without knowing what you are doing when the other ID pops up:
    CHANGE ID
The ID is used in the following locations and y have to change  them.
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
    Settings>iCloud
    and Settings>iTunes and App store
You  have to sign out of ID (for iCloud you delete the iCloud account from the iPod) and sign in with other ID.
    Note:
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
If the iPod has iOS 7 then you have the enter the password for Apple ID presently sign in Settings>iCloud.
Also, a Restriction can be set (Settings>General>Restrictions) the prevents changing accounts

  • Can I use two apple ids on my iPhone?

Does anyone know if I can use two apple ids on my iPhone. Basically I have a problem where I can't download an app because its not available in the Australian store but I am considering starting a new apple id linked to my Hong Kong credit card so I can purchase this app
    app
if I do this will I only be able to see the apps downloaded using each particular apple id account on my iPhone at any one time...?

    wjosten wrote:
That only applies if you turn on Automatic Downloads or iTunes match.
To the OP, you can ignore Philo124's post.
No, it Applies if you download content from one then switch to another and download content from the other. Automatically or not.
    Apple Wrote:
Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:
You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.
(ii) An Associated Device can be associated with only one Account at any given time.
(iii) You may switch an Associated Device to a different Account only once every 90 days.
Not sure if its only limited to past purchases or new ones as well though.
