Family sharing why do we need a CC?

I wanna use Family sharing. Should be simple. Its not. It requires a credit card. Why is that a business rule? I use  iTune store vouchers and am loathed to keep my CC details on file. I have credit on my account yet I need a payment method. Is there a way around this?

You can go WIKI and search with ABAP Objects.
Or do the same in 'advanced search'  and select a search area. You are bound to find something.

  • In Family sharing why kids must have mine approve to for free downloads (for purchases i understood)

This is crazy that i set age in restriction so they can only download for example 4+ ...but even then when whey select free app they must ask me for agree ? Its stupid ! Or for what we have restriction setting for apps ?

It's nothing to do with app restrictions, a free app is still considered a purchase and requires approval if you enable the Ask for Approval feature on a family member.  I was hoping for an easy to way to say "Yes, I will buy you that game..," not a constant annoyance of having to approve every free game they download.  I would love to take advantage of the other features of Family Sharing but this problem actually blocks it.  I have to remove them from the iCloud family or else they are essentially restricted from downloading free apps.

  • HT201079 Family sharing : Why not ask to buy for adults ?

I don't see why we can't turn on "ask to buy" for adults. I want to control what I share....

As far as I know Apple haven't said why (these are user-to-user forums), only that you can't - you can try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in the future it will be possible : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Setting up iCloud family sharing. Why can I not use my iTunes as a valid payment method?

Why is iTunes card not a option under payment method. I am wanting to setup iCloud Family Sharing. But I need to give Apple a credit card which I do not have. That is why I use the iTunes card and redeem the money. If it is good enough to use iTunes card when making purchase from Apple iTunes store then why is it not an option when setting up iCloud Family Sharing account.

You're allowed play the music on up to 5 devices. Each device must be authorised. Unless you can connect the xbox to the apple store to be authorised, you will not be able to play the music on it.

  • Why can't I use PayPal with Family Sharing? Have a US Visa card but foreign address, and Apple does not seem to be able to cope with that (even though it is a multinational corporation). Could we lean on Apple to change this policy?

Paypal for Family Sharing - Why can't I use PayPal with Family Sharing? Have a US Visa card but a foreign address, and Apple does not seem to be able to cope with that (even though it is a multinational corporation). So I set up payment with Paypal, and it worked fine. Now I want to take advantage of Family Sharing, but Apple won't allow it. Could we lean on Apple to change this policy?

If you are not in the US then you cannot use the US store, the store's terms say that you have to be in a country to use it - if you are using the US store then you are risking having your account disabled.

  • Family sharing changing the organizer

My father was the original family sharing organizer but I need to be b/c I need to mange her buying of apps and music.  I was unable to add him as a family member after he opted out of that role.  I was told by apple that there is a 6 month window for him to rejoin the family should he choose to opt out.  However b/c he had never been a member the support again had me log out of iCloud and then log back in and I was able to add my father.  The support agent was wonderful.  The case number was: 676523535

    Hi Mike,
I have no idea about family sharing, but I would recommend to think twice before actually changing the country for your account if you bought (many) movies and tv shows with it. Why? Because if you purchased many movies/tv shows and change the country, Apple will compare your purchases from the US with the media available in the German iTunes Store (mostly on with German sound track) and if something isn't available you will lose the iCloud re-download option for previous purchases. Furthermore some apps/services (e.g. Beats Music, Facebook Paper) are not available in Germany.
    With kind regards,
    David

  • How can I move my wife's account under my apple ID to a new Apple ID for her and switch to family sharing?

I have 4 devices under my apple ID. 1 iPAD is used by my wife and has her own mail account setup. With family sharing, I would like to move that account to an Apple ID of her own and add her to the family list. How do I do that?

    Hello Godde
Lets start with checking out the articles below for setting up Family Sharing and more information about Apple ID’s. I will say that you will not be able to transfer any purchases to a different Apple ID, but you can rename the Apple ID. If you want to use Family Sharing, then you will need to just create a new iCloud account and then follow the steps in the second article to start sharing content between you to.

  • Family sharing 1 single icloud

    Hi !
We have 3 devices, each are connected to the same Icloud account for backup, photostream and Locate my Iphone(IOS 7). But each device is using his own Itunes/App Store account for purchase.
With the family sharing, each member will need to connect to his own Icloud for backup, because I can't add family member since it told me that we are already part of the family. But I cannot see others persons purchases with the current method.
Do connecting each device to his own Icloud service will allow me to add family member and start sharing music and others with the family?

  • Why do I need a credit card for family sharing?

i would like like to setup family sharing. I have an iPhone my 7year old has just got an iPad, I would like keep tabs on what he try's to download etc but in
the process it says I need a credit card on file. I already have a debit card registered And don't have a credit card.  Why is this a problem?

    Hello Laujhull,
The reason you need a credit card is that to comply with child online privacy protection laws, the CVV or security code provides parental consent for the purchases that will be made. You will need to do that before continue and you can even switch back to your debit card after you finish the setup. The article below will explain further.

  • HT201382 Our family all bought each other gift cards for Christmas and set up our iPads to family sharing.  When any family member makes a purchase, it will only be charged to the credit card and NEVER the gift card amount! WHY? Is there a way to fix this

We just set up family sharing on our iPads and we all have$50 of iTunes cards that have been placed on our accounts.  Why can no one in the family redeem the money from their itunes cards... Instead being charge ONLY to the "organizers" credit card? This is driving us crazy? Now all our Christmas present have gone to waste? Can anyone help?

    Hello there ssyer,
Family Sharing purchases do all go to the Organizers credit card by default, that is unless there is an existing credit or balance on the account requesting the purchase according to this article:
    Family purchases and payments
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you. Learn more about how iTunes Store purchases are billed.
Balances can be verified with this article if you need:

  • I can't accept family sharing? Why?

I can't accept family sharing? Why?

    Hi LANewton,
Happy Holidays!  If you are the family organizer, you need to have a credit or debit card because you are responsible for everyone's purchases.  However, when a family member makes a purchase, if he or she has a gift or store credit, the store credit will applied first, and the organizer would pay the difference.  I've highlighed some key information below.   Click on the links for full details.
Start or join a family group using Family Sharing - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201088
    Start a family group
One adult in the family—the family organizer—can set up Family Sharing for the group. When you set up Family Sharing, you'll be asked to confirm that you agree to pay for purchases initiated by the family members you invite and that you have a valid payment method on file. Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards.
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201079
    Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you. Learn more about how iTunes Store purchases are billed.
Once paid for, a purchased item is added to the account of the family member who initiated the purchase. In other words, the content belongs to them, much as it would if you were buying them a book or a DVD. If Family Sharing is ever disabled, each member will keep the purchases they initiated, even though they were paid for by the family organizer.
    Enjoy the Season ...

  • I cannot to set family sharing for my family. When i open to iCloud section in settings it says "There's no family information". Why ?

As I said in subject I cannot to set family sharing for my family. When i open to iCloud section in settings it says "There's no family information". Why ?

Yes, to clarify - we get a message that says "(he) is already a member of the Family"... but on my iPhone, it still shows that he is not, ie. that the invitation is still pending acceptance.
A bit more detail - when I enter his name (or even .me email address) at the 'Add Family Member' screen on the iPhone, the system will not accept it. ie. I enter his credentials, hit 'Next', and it does not progress to the next screen...
Bizzare. And he's the one who really needs to be enrolled, not so much my wife - who is successfully signed up!
Hope there's some solution to this...

  • HT203905 Why must all payments come from the family organizer if you set up family sharing?

most families set up seperate apple ids for their children so they can spend their own giftcards.  if I am reading this right, then to enable family sharing you must supply a credit card. WHY? It would have been  better to keep the option of "none" when setting up family sharing.  doing so would have allowed me to share a song we all enjoy as a family.

Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to speculate on Apple policies here and aren't privy to any information other than what Apple publishes. And yes, from what I've read, you do need to set up a credit card. Here is some info:

  • Family sharing data needs to be changed

An apple id has been set up for my child, but the incorrect birthdate was mistakenly entered.  As the adult, I am trying to set up Family Sharing on icloud, and it shows my child listed as an adult.  How do I change the birthdate to reflect he is a child?  When I log in as his apple id, and go to the "password and security" section, I answer the security questions.  When I go down the the "select your birthdate" section, and try to change it to the correct date, hit save, an error says "You cannot change your birthdate at this time".  I have logged out and logged back in a few times to try again, to no avail.  How can this be corrected?

Try changing it to 1/1/2001.  That particular date tends to be accepted, and will convert it to a child ID.  I'm not sure why Apple isn't allowing people to enter the correct birthdate.

  • Need advice on how to best approach Family Sharing, multiple devices, Apple IDs, etc.

My wife and I both have iPhone 5's (soon to be 6's) running iOS 8, I have an iPad (v2) running iOS 8, and my wife just got a MacBook Air (running Mavericks, soon to be Yosemite). We also have Apple TV (v2) running the latest OS. That's five Apple devices shared between a husband and wife (not counting my two-year-old's unsupported iPhone 4 used for kid games).
We have always just used the same Apple ID for everything. However, things are changing fast. We have both upgraded to iOS 8, we will soon be getting iPhone 6's, she now has a MacBook Air that will soon support Continuity, and we will purchase iCloud Drive storage for our iPhone 6's to free up photo/video storage space from our phones. We need to rethink and reorganize how we manage these devices because my wife does not want my email, iMessages, contacts, or Safari bookmarks showing up on her new MacBook, but she would like to use the upcoming Continuity feature.
In the perfect world, we would like the following: We would like to have separate: 1) email, 2) iMessages, 3) contacts, 4) Safari bookmarks, and 5) photos/videos. But we would like to have access to: 1) each others' backed up photos and videos stored on the new iCloud Drive, 2) iTunes, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases, and 3) a shared family calendar.
Right now, using the same Apple ID on all five devices, we are able to successfully do all of the above by setting up different email accounts on each device, by designating different phone numbers and email addresses on each device, etc. However, when my wife set up her new MacBook Air this morning, she told it to import Contacts from the Apple ID, but it looks like it imported everything from an old iCloud backup of my device. How can my wife totally integrate and sync her own iPhone and MacBook Air without getting the bookmarks, contacts, etc. from my iPhone? Is there a way to do this, whether through same/different Apple IDs, the new Family Sharing mechanism, or a combination of both? Any considerations or advice that I am not thinking of?
    Thanks so much,
    New At This
PS - I am very computer literate and can implement complicated solutions if necessary, but I am not familiar with any cross-device sharing options or even the OS X interface at all.

here's a mockup of sorta what I'm going for:
