Fan and Internal Battery question
Is there a fan in the iMac? How would I replace the internal battery? Is there a battery?
You will not be able to replace the PRAM battery at least without voiding the warranty. If it needs replacing it will have to be done by an Apple authorized technician.
There are 3 internal fans: CPU, HDD, and ODD. Have a look at this take-a-part.

Ti Powerbook Internal Battery Question
Folks,
I have a Ti Powerbook (400Mhz) and it has been stored for some time. When I tried to turn it on it would not start up. I have tried to recharge the internal battery, recharge the primary battery (which did not charge at ALL), reset the PMU and zap the PRAM. None of these things have worked and the computer still won't start. i am assuming from these things that the internal battery is dead. Can someone please tell me: 1.) where exactly the internal battery is located (I believe it is under the optical drive) ? 2.) How hard of an install a new battery would be (I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver) ? 3.) Can I buy a replacement battery at Radio Shack or the like? I would very much like to get this computer up and running for my fiance who is considering a switch from a......GULP.....Dell laptop. Thanks in advance for the help.
Powerbook Mac OS X (10.3.9) NoneHi, epotkano, and welcome to Apple Discussions. When you tried to recharge the internal backup battery, did you do so without the main battery in place? If not, do. The backup battery is often resilient enough to come back to life and take a charge even when both batteries have been drained so long that the main battery defies resurrection, but it may only happen if the dead main battery is removed. If after 24 hours of attempted charging with the main battery removed, the Tibook still won't start, disconnect the backup battery's wire leads and try again. If the PB then starts up, the backup battery should be replaced. If it doesn't, the backup battery is not the problem — or not the only problem.
The backup battery module resides directly under the right wrist rest, above the slot-loading optical drive. You must remove the keyboard, the lower case (bottom panel) and the DVD drive to get to it. It isn't hard. The module (here's a picture) is a unit, though it contains several flat, disklike cells; if it has to be replaced, you replace the whole thing including its wire leads, not just the cells. It's only sold by specialty Mac parts dealers, and I notice that it's currently out of stock at iFixit. One or more of the following other vendors may be able to help you sooner, if you need to order one:

Sudden Onset of Constant Fan and rubbish battery life....
2 days ago my fan came on constantly and, as a result - I get only about 2 hours of battery life with the BlackBook on with NO progs running (not even airport).
Tried everything - SMC Reset, Activity Monitor - the works. BlackBook only 14 months old so out of warranty but wondering what I can do. Tried running battery down then recharging it.
Would be grateful for your advice - the noise is deafening and the battery is more than annoying me as I used to get 4-5 hours! What does Activity Monitor show? Anything? Do the same issues occur in a separate user account?
Are you certain you reset the SMC properly?

Heat, Fan, and dimming display questions
I have a hot running MacBook Pro. I've had the unit returned for service and only one of my four issues was resolved. The unit is going back again for service.
I seemed to irritate the last tech support person by asking questions about the heat issues. Maybe some people here can help answer the question that changed his tone for the worse during the remainder of the support call.
Can you easily hear the fan(s) when they operate or do you have to put your ear real close to the laptop to hear the fan(s) operate?
I asked because I couldn't tell you what a fan sounds like on this machine. I'm on my second motherboard and I cannot feel any air flow from all those vents (or anywhere else for that matter) along the back of the laptop near the display hinge.
Has anyone found a correlation between a dimming display and heat? What happens is the display dims the equivelent of bringing down the brightness down three levels and after a few seconds it brightens back up.
The laptop is going in for a second repair for the following reason:
"Problem Description: Customer sensory issues - Temperature perception: CPU/Unit"
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)Hello I just wanted to give you some insight on the screen dimming. If you have not unchecked the box at the bottom of the display pane is system prefs the display will dim when ever it scences a lower light situation. I have attached a picture. HERE

Quick and easy battery question
I just got my iPhone yesterday and let it charge fully overnight. But my question is: if the battery is about half-full, is there any harm done in charging it fully from this state? Or do I need to let it die down fully/give me the low battery warning before charging it? And I know that I should do a full charge/discharge cycle once a month or so.
Thank you for your help!
JayYou can charge whenever you want, it has a Lithium Ion Battery that can be charged at any time without and harm done. It is good too let iPhone die every so often and then fully recharge.

Hard drive 6 gb/s and PRAM battery questions
I have two questions:
1) Does iMac Core Duo 20'' (early 2006 first intel model) support 6 gb/s hard drive (I recently bought a WESTERN DIGITAL Sata III 6 Gb / s buffer 64 Mb 7200 rpm)? when I will upgrade my hard drive it will recognize 6 gb/s speed data transfer? or it will recognize lesser?
2) Can I use any 3V Lithium CR2032 coin Battery as PRAM battery replacement on my iMac? I know that its 3V CR2032 from Mactracker or nay other sites from internet, but I would like to know if I can use a battery from any brand or shoul I get the exact same of the one apple use?
thanks!1.5 Gb/s is the controller transfer speed for that model. SATA 3 at 6 Gb/s didn't arrive until after those computers were produced. SATA 2 can be jumpered down to 1.5 Gb/s (WD SATA 2 drives will use jumpers on pins 5&6), which you may or may not have to do, depending on the drive.
Not a guess. The WD drive you bought won't work.
You don't need the ridiculously overpriced Apple battery.

Ipod Video and External Battery Question
If I am not in the correct forum, tell me. I got the 30 Gig Ipod Video. I am curious about an external battery pack that uses AA batteries to extend the battery life of the Ipod Video. I saw the Belkin but many said they had an overheating problem when using that one. I assume it must be designed for 5th gen. I had one for my mini and it worked great. My assumption is that the one that worked on the mini will not work on the Ipod Video. Any suggestions for one that works well???
Ipod Video 30 gig Windows XPI keep all my videos on an external hardrive (to save space on my computer's hardrive) and now that I want to transfer my videos to the video iPod, I don't know how to do it without copying the videos to the computer's. Same goes for buying videos on iTunes. Can someone help me with this, please?
One possibility is to simply let iTunes use the external drive as its primary storage device. (I.e., store your "Music" folder externally on the external HD.) To do this, go to the "Advanced" Preference tab and reset the storage location. (Not sure if current material will automatically be copied to the new location or if you have to do this manually.) Would assume you can then use the expanded storage area for iPod compatible files, archive "master" material to CD/DVD, and delete unwanted masters from the HD. If you are using the auto-sync mode, you can then use the active "Library" to control what is sync'd. Further, you can then delete material from the "library" but elect to leave the file(s) stored in the "Music" folder rather than "trashing" them (i.e., keep them stored on the external drive as sort of an "archive") if/when you no longer want it sync'd to your iPod and restore it later to iTunes when/if needed again.

Speakers with Alarm and iPod Battery Life
Hello everybody,
I am thinking to buy speakers with alarm for my wife's iPod video (30G). I have the following concern though. Since such kind of accessories charge iPod once I connect it, is it going to shorten the battery life due to frequent charging? Or is there any way to somehow disable charging if the battery is still OK?
Thank you.

My mac mini only shows a steady power light and fan noise when powered up. No video or sound and no commumication with wired keyboard or optical mouse. Tried replacing internal battery and resetting PMU/SMC but nothing seemed to happen. Any suggestions? Many thanks! Richard
You've already done the two things I would have suggested.
If your Mini has an internal battery then I assume it's a G4. That means you've gotten a lot of good years of service from it, and it's old enough that it's certainly not covered by AppleCare anymore, and it's probably not worth spending money trying to repair it.
You should be able to tear it apart using instructions from ifixit.com to get the hard drive out, and then put the hard drive into a nice USB or FireWire enclosure (I like the ones from Other World Computing, macsales.com) so you can transfer your data to a replacement Mac.
I hope someone has another suggestion for you. -
Kernel_Task High CPU Usage (300%) and Fan Speed - On Battery and Plugged In
Hi Everyone,
Came here to ask for help given my bad situation with MBA 13 Mid-2013 (Mavericks 10.9.2). Yesterday I`ve opened my MBA and it was very laggy and sluggish, and I could hear the fan going crazy on speed. After opening Activity Monitor, Kernel_Task was consuming 300% of CPU in average... I suspect that may be related to recently installed CleanMyMac2, after performing a series of cleaning tasks to save space on my MBA (couldn`t say I wasn`t afraid of doing it). But this situation came a week after the cleaning above, so it`s kind of confusing. Last app I've downloaded was OneNote from AppStore. Two days later the problem started out.
I`ve checked in a lot of discussions on this kernel situation, but none was like mine. The majority had relation with the Mac being on battery; after plugged in everything worked. In my case it happens both ways, on A/C and on battery. Tried the resets but no success at all. Also tried to boot in safe mode, but somehow didn`t work for me in Mavericks.
I`m desperate to find a solution but it`s kinda hard to find it. That`s why I`m asking for your help! Thanks a lot!!!
Here`s a system report to help!

I have an eMac which shows the date and time as random figures, suggesting that the internal battery is dead. Where can I buy a replacement? My local Apple reseller does not stock them.
evan239"It is in Western Australia, in a suburb of Perth."
That helps! Considering adding that to your profile. It can get you help faster for future "where to get" questions. We have a lot of active helpers here who are your countrymen (and women).
You may be able to find a battery seller locally, The PRAM battery is not limited to computer use. That model is also used in alarm systems. Look for a "1/2 AA 3.6V lithium" battery--that's about as generic description as one can give.
I found a seller that has a chart of battery number equivalents:
http://www.medicbatteries.com/battery-cross-reference-guide
Look at the last line. There is a long list of manufacturers' battery numbers that are 1/2AA 3.6V. As long as you find one that's lithium (haven't seen any that aren't) you should be good to go.

Hi,
You have to replace the old battery. The part number is: 593554-001 for a 55Wh or 593553-001 for a 47Wh battery. Search the part number on google shopping or ebay for the best price.

My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance
Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger. Do NOT use a computer's USB port. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
According to Apple:
Use Your iPod Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge. -

Need a docking speaker with internal battery and suitable for ipad or iphone4
Does the following model fit those requirements? Do you have any recommendation for me on a docking speaker?

You can do this in the private network offered by any router, provided all devices being managed are behind that router. If for some reason you need a static IP on the network (such as for the server itself), then you can delegate one to the server in your router, but you dont need a special public IP address configuration from your ISP to set this up and make use of it.

Fans and Z87-GD65 new build question
Hi. I am waiting on all my parts for a new build this week. I've only done one build before and that was over 4 years ago (i5-750 / MSI P55-GD65). My question is regarding fans and how to control them on the Z87-GD65 mobo. My case comes with three 140 mm 3-pin fans and a 3 fan 3-speed manual fan controller. I've never used a fan controller before and would prefer to use SpeedFan or the BIOS to adjust speed fans based on CPU/GPU temperatures. Will I be able to set up automatic speed control in BIOS or SpeedFan for all 3 fans with this motherboard? Or do I need PWM fans to do so? What if I want to install 2 extra fans? Any help would be appreciated!
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC12DX_RD 68.5 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power SupplyThose connected to the fan controllers are controlled through their buttons (or whatever to adjust the speed). Those connected to motherboard, are connected through a software, such as Command Centre (which in my opinion is great for this).
Not sure how many connectors do you have on the motherboard, but I think there's x2 CPUFan and x3 SysFan. That means you can have x5 fans connected to them. But you can either purchase a Y splitter which will let you connect 2 fans into a single socket (I am using one Y splitter) or just get proper fan controller.
