Fan Constantly Running. Choppy Video. Slow Loading. Comp is Slow to Typing

A week ago my Macbook started to perform slowly. My fan is constantly running and my battery and the area around it is wicked hot. Video is choppy but the audio is streaming fine. Web pages are slow to load and when I type, the screen is a second or two behind what I'm typing.
I've looked for new updates but none are out currently.

Did you look at Activity Monitor? Did you check if the battery is deformed? Is your ram working properly - try memest for osx - and seated properly?

If your iMac has an Intel processor, reset the SMC:
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.

Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Apple says that should fix a fan that runs regardless of systems load. If that doesn't fix it, please post back.

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them. Let them deal w/it.

Cooling fans constantly run @ full speed after replacing the upper CPU??

After replacing the upper CPU on a Power Mac G5 (June 2004), Dual 1.8Ghz PowerPC, model M9454LL/A, all the cooling fans constantly run at full speed. All other operations are normal.
I've read, "...after replacing or switching CPU locations the Logic Board doesn't properly recognize the CPU's in their new location and a "Thermal Calibration" is needed". Could a "Thermal Calibration" possibly correct the constant full fan speed issue?

The Apple Service Diagnostic disc (ASD) of the proper version for your machine.
Call an authorized Apple service provider and arrange a calibration, as the disc is not readily available to individuals.

MacBook Fans Constantly Running

The fans on my MacBook pro are constantly running. This morning I turned it on and they started up within the first 5-1o minutes of using the machine.
Has anyone else had problems with this? I have two other co-workers who are doing the same amount of activity I'm doing and we have the same exact hardware set up, but they aren't having any problems.

Have you been monitering Activity Monitor as I suggested to see if an application is causing the problem?
I would also suggest using a utility such as TinkerTool System to erase system, user, and font caches in case the problem is caused by a corrupted cache file. Restart after clearing caches. Also use the utility to run the Unix maintenance scripts. See the following for more on maintenance:

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
8. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. Toast
3. Impression
4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

It also can't hurt to do this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

MB Pro is running 'choppy and slow.' It's especially evident when using Expose. How do I clean up/fix?

Pro suddenly started running a bit choppy yesterday. Seems to be running a little slow. Cleaned up cookies and history, plenty of HD space left. Any suggestions?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

IMac fan constantly running, I've tried everything!!

I have a Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010)
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3,
Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3,
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB,
Running Yosemite 10.10.1
The fan is constantly running quite loud. I have never had this problem until recently and it seems to have started doing it for no apparent reason. I have changed any settings or done anything recently. In fact, the most recent change was upgrading to Yosemite.
I have tried doing a SMC reset (several times) which didn't change anything. I have tried lots of doing different ways of doing a Apple Hardware/Diagnostics Test and it told me that "The Apple Hardware Test is not compatible with this machine".
I have kept a close look at my Activity Monitor and nothing is spiking, average use is: System 2.75%, User 5.67%, Idle 90.4%
Using smcFanControl I know the fan is running at 29C and average 996rpm. I don't know if those stats are normal or not, but my fan is still making more noise than it ever has.
Please, can somebody help! I have been trying for weeks now with no success. I very worried that using my Mac is going to damage something and I desperately need it for work. Can anybody suggest anything outside of taking it to apple because that is my last resort which is going to cost me a lot of money

The fans always run, that's normal. What's not normal is that you hear them as much as you do unless you use your imac in an EXTREMELY quiet environment. I think that 996rpm is actually lower than normal, you shouldn't hear that at all. Maybe you have a fan that's starting to fail and is making abnormal noise.
Running the Apple Hardware Test on your mac requires the original gray install discs that came with the computer when it was new, do you have those? AHT is on disc two, insert it and hold D at start up and AHT will start.

IMac Fan constantly running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1 (14B25)

Does anyone have this problem my iMac is going to be about a 1 1/2 year old now and the fan is constantly running and never shuts off. This happened from day one took it back to Apple store when first notice the problem which was 1 week later. They told me it was nothing and all iMacs run the fan and do not get to much concern. He did something like unplugging the cord and pressing the power button 2 times holding down for 10 sec each time he said had to reset pram or something like that. It went away for a day and came back tried his procedure and works once or twice and back come on the fan all day. But when in sleep mode goes off. But when on you can feel the air out of back coming out. Is thee anyway to stop it someone told me maybe the motherboard was going or the ram was bad but the Apple tech was I think honest with me he said they have these issue's and there is really nothing to do with the fan noise.The computer is not hot at all to touch and he told me thats when I really have to worry then if it feels hot to touch then shut it down and wait till next day to turn back on. I do not know what to make out with this issue. Anyone know of a fix for this that I can do? There is nothing blocking the computer is wide open only have a cable modem on the side next to printer. I just want piece and quite again thats why I bought a Mac. My pc windows 7 never did this and my laptop never did this either never saw anything like this until I got my very first Mac. Little upset with Apple support they are useless and did not even offer me a new one when I went back a week later they were very rude to me I paid $1299.00 for nosey machine and no help.I am a very frustrated Mac user and thats why I do not own a Apple phone I like Android much better and cheaper than Apple products and from what I have read about the new phone software being so bad even with the updates that another reason I will never have a iPhone. I keep hoping for better low price offerings in the App store, but Marcel Bresink eschews the App Store and the relatively cheap temperature reporting apps I have found there do not report fan speed which in your case, and I suspect many, is critical. Be aware that due to manufacturing tolerances some fans are simply noisier than others.
For what it is worth the fan in my late 2012 Mac mini is currently spinning at around 4,700 RPM and I all I can here is a faint sound of moving air. I get more noise from the fan in my external HD/optical drive enclosure when burning a CD/DVD which of course generates a lot of heat.

X220 fan constantly runs even a low power settings

Until recently I rarely heard my fan, other than it briefly coming on. After hearing the fan run pretty much all the time now over the last few days, I changed power setting to balanced power and optimized fan control - balanced in Lenovo Power manager. Ran the hardware diagnostics in Lenovo and Cores at 74 and 76 degrees. Fan still runs even after lowering these power consumption settings.
Have the latest BIOS and all other updates installed. No grinding or weird noises - just constant fan running on low speed and a little higher when docked.
I don't know that there is anything wrong and did a search for ideas on how to check that a fan on a laptop is running commiserate with the power and temperature of the laptop.
For Lenovo or laptops in general, how do you check and see that the fan noise you hear is the noise you should hear? I have mine plugged into a mini dock, not blocking any fan exhaust, etc. AC outlet power via mini dock. 90W 20V adapter plugged into the mini dock.
I saw that one user went into the BIOS and changed the Adaptive Thermal Management setting to Balanced from the default of Maximum. Have not tried that as I already have the power scheme to balanced and not sure what setting it - also - in the BIOS will do.
Any experiences with diagnosing whether the X220 fan is operating as it should? Saw many concerns recorded early on but after BIOS updates most excessive problems seemed to resolve.
Funny things is that when I pop the X220 out of the mini dock, the fan noise pretty much disappears. Like right now, within a minute of undocking the laptop, the fan is not longer audible. Power settings for battery and plugged in are both set to balanced so that should not be a factor.

Are you sure there are no trojans or viruses on laptop? Also lounch the task manager and check out the service or application with deranged CPU loading while the laptop is in the idle mode. What is the power usage in the idle mode?

Why does the fan constantly run

MBPs run very warm. The fans run to cool the CPU etc. The warmer it gets on the outside, the harder it is to keep the inside cool. There can also be issues causing the MBP to run warmer than usual.

Fans constantly running, SMC reset failed to solve it.

My fans currently run on high constantly. I tried the SMC reset (both unpluging the machine and reset button) and the fans are still going. Is there a fan calibration or something else is wrong? I had my Mac tech install more RAM and a week later this happened. Not sure if this is in relation with that.

That is what iStat was saying. I could have cooked a pizza if it was truly that hot. Fortunately the SMC just needed a reset. Not sure who writes those fix it help pages but disconnecting everything for 15 seconds didn't work. Perhaps they meant 15 minutes?

Qosmio G55-Q804 fans constantly running

3 yr old laptop has the fans om all the time, OS is very slow (WIN 7), everything is slow, it would imply a virus but none found, CPU runs at 100% on occasion but I can't find the problem...neither could our local 'puter service.
So I'm on my own, any ideas?

Did you clean the cooling modules in the past?
If not, do this
Use an compressed air spray to remove the dust from cooling vents.
In most cases the clogged cooling grilles and fans cannot run properly and this leads to higher temperature. In such case the fans would run often.

Fan constantly running

Since uploading Windows 10 the fan now runs constantly and pretty hot too. I have it propped up to allow air underneath but makes no difference. Is this a coincidence (since uploading Windows 10) or is there a problem with the laptop?

Here is a link to Open the Windows Update troubleshooter that may help find additional drivers. Although it lists Windows 7 it does work in Windows 10. Once launched, it should show a screen like this. Use the second option "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", it should lead to a force update of 'Windows Updates' that may not be automatically being applied, that could fix some of these issues. Macbook Pro fans constantly running, Safari hangs up and/or crashes often.

My 2012 Macbook Pro (10.9.2, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB Memory) has been acting up a lot lately. The fans are constantly running even if major apps (mail, safari, itunes, messages, etc.) are closed. Safari, in particular, has been hanging up and/or crashing recently for no real apparent reason. My battery has been draining out faster than usual. I've always tried to be very cognizant to the health of my computers and phones and try to limit the amount of apps and files I download, sites I visit, etc. I've already done Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions in Disk Utility, reset Safari numerous times, disabled all extensions, removed unnecessary apps, and altered settings in Energy Saver, all to no avail. I'm a grad student so I only use my laptop for Safari and Microsoft Word and put it to sleep when not in use as often as possible. Also, my battery was at 56% about 23 minutes ago and is now at 38%.
