Fan continue to spin in sleep

i have an imac 21.5 late 2010 model. and even when its cold the fans continue to spin when in sleep anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it

Hello
Try reset SMC
Does your mac is unsualy HOT ?
Verify if a ribbon, a joint, the label of a cable or a cable gets(touches) the pales of the ventilator and provokes a jingle. ( imac need to be open for that , BE verry cafull , or ask a professional for this )

  • MSI 890FXA-GD65 Shutdown(fans continue)/black screen

At random times as well but usually when I'm playing a game (but not always) the computer will go to a black screen with the fans continuing to spin. Some times my CPU fan gets really loud. I had been using the graphics card and PSU in my old machine with no problems, only after I installed the new mobo/cpu/ram did this problem begin to occur.
When this problem happens I can only turn the computer off with the powerswitch on the PSU.
I saw some other people had this issue but no resolutions were given. Also there's seemed to occur more frequently, mine might go for days with no problem. Right now I'm unsure what the issue is some I'm thinking of replacing the motherboard under warrenty. I waited too long to switch it with the store thinking it might be a driver issue but after having all the drivers updated it still continues.

    Hi guys,
I have the same board and I am experiencing the same thing. Random shutdowns after a week or so leaving the computer on. Tried to change everything but the motherboard so as a last resort I am trying the following after this thinking. The 890FXA is compatible with Bulldozer and as you can't have a BIOS for every CPU they must have merged functionalities. Remember this extra Pin for Bulldozer? well it is all about managing power so in my mind I thought that:
    1) different power management with BD
    2) same BIOS
    3) same software developpers
    4) same shutdown of the computer (CPU fan still running 100%, no video, ...)
    5) same BS from MSI
So I looked into the BIOS and found the Green Power section that I entirely disabled (it also removed the cool VRM Led for the CPU but who really cares?). So far it's been 7 days that my computer is up doing cycles of encoding / decoding TV shows and I'm crossing my fingers. Give it a shot and report please... Hope it'll fix the board!

  • Fans spin during sleep

    Hello,
can anyone help? - im using the latest os and the latest firmware, but for some reason my fans spin during sleep - its been like it a while, but it never used to happen...
any clues as to how i can remedy this?
    thanks for your time
    Lee

    Hi Lee Harding-
Reduce your setup to keyboard and mouse each plugged into their own USB port on the Mac, and video connected to the monitor. Remove all internal PCI cards (if any) and unplug everything, including hubs, from the Mac.
If this works, add things back one at a time until you find the culprit. If this configuration doesn't work we will dig deeper.

  • Macbook Pro Fans Just Went Spinning Nuts

    Hi.
So I'm surfing the web (using firefox) have 2 tabs open and suddenly the fans on my macbook pro start to spin faster. Then they spin faster gain finally maxing out at 5360 rpm. The temperature all the time was never above 55 degress C. They spun at 5360 rpm for about 10 minutes and then spun down to a normal level of 3154 rpm.
I checked the processes and some kernal task is up at the top using 1.84 GB of virtual memory. No other programs running but plenty of other tasks listed as sleeping.
First question ... what is the max rpm that the fans should safely spin at?
Second question ... why would it suddenly take off like that spinning fans when there's only one program running?
I had an alienware before and it started running its fans like that after a few months ownership ... a few months later it chew the hard disk and lost a lot of data on me.

The maximum RPM for the MacBook Pro fans is 6000rpm.
I have no idea why the fans would suddenly "take off" like that but try running the Apple Hardware test. You can do this by inserting your original install disk 1, restart the computer with the D key held down until the hardware test starts loading. Once the test has loaded select the option to perform extended testing and then start the test. Note down any error codes and post them here.
Note that when you load the hardware test up the mouse will be very jittery and the computer will appear to freeze during the test, I have encountered this on all the tests I have run and consider it normal behaviour.
    Hope this helps

  • I cannot open my iphoto. the circle just continues to spin. what do I do? I do?

I cannot open my IPHOTO. What do I do? The circle just continues to spin on the IPHOTO screen but no pictures appear.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? If it's not repeated there then:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My fan continually runs, how do I turn it off?

My fan continually runs.  When I turn off the power and start up it stays off for about 30 minutes then starts up again.  What can I do to turn off and only turn on when approapriate?

You should never turn your fans off, even if you found a way to do so.  Try an SMC reset:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Disks spin down (sleep) unbidden

Under Tiger (10.4.6) One or more of my internal hard drives spin down (sleep) when the drive isn't accessed for a short time, even if I'm using the computer, e.g. typing a message.
I have unchecked "put hard disks to sleep" in the Energy Saver and trashed the preferences (Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist) and reset the pram. The problem still happens.
    Can anyone help?

This problem is definitely related to Tiger, at least partly. Previously, I was running 10.2, and this didn't happen.
It's not the only change to my drive behavior that appeared when I installed Tiger. At some point when I was running 10.2, I mistakenly moved my third internal hard drive (which is on its own interface card) to the wrong connector on the ribbon cable. The drive still worked, but it would spin down after an hour or so if I didn't access the drive. But the other 2 drives would keep spinning. When I installed Tiger, things changed. It didn't even see that third drive at all, and the other 2 drives would spin down after some short time (like 15 minutes or so) of inactivity. I moved the drive to the correct connector on the ribbon cable, and all of a sudden, Tiger recognized the drive -- but that drive now spins down too after a short time. Again, this is a new behavior under Tiger.
FYI, I migrated from 10.2 to 10.4, so it could have been a change introduced in 10.3.

  • Mac fan continuously on

    mac fan continuously on

    Hello Greg,
I have the mad fan issue on my early 2009  Macbook. I've tried resetting the SMC following these instructions:
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
But the problem is still there. Any ideas on what to do next?
    Thanks!

  • Satellite A100-773 - cooling fans are not spinning

    Hello,
My notebook fans are not spinning at all,
I installed speed fan and it does not even recognize the fans, the temperatures are 60-70 degrees, but when I stressed the laptop to 80 degrees the "emergency" fan start very low until it went down from 80.
Does it have to be hardware problem or because the fan did actually work it might be software issue? Can someone guide me where to look?
    Thx in advanced
    Yoni

You should definitely check the options in the Toshiba power saver (if preinstalled and available on you notebook).
But to be honest I dont see any serious problems with your notebook.
If your notebook doesnt overheat then the fans work fine.
With overheating I mean a suddenly shut downs. In such case the notebook would shut down to prevent the hardware from damage.
But it looks like your notebook runs ok However, you could check if an BIOS update (if available) would increase the fans performance and sensibility.
    Bye

  • Dropped MacBook Pro i5 Mid 2012 Fan tries to spin but cuts out, Battery Charging Indicator light showing but cuts out

    Good evening,
A few weeks ago i dropped my MacBook Pro (i5 Mid 2012) and it failed to turn on, battery had charge in it at the time.
When i press the power button nothing happens. I have also tried resetting the SMC, nothing happens.
Next i plugged in the mag safe charger, before i pressed the power button i saw the charging light come on for a second then cut out.
If i press the power buttong, nothing happens.
I opened the back of the machine and tried the above steps again to see what happened.
    1. When i press the power button nothing happens.
    2. When i plugged in the mag safe charger, before ti pressed the power button i see the fan starts to spin for maybe 2 seconds then stops. I hear the hard drive start to spin but that also stops at the same time, during this the front batter charging indicator light also illuminates, but also cuts out.
Its like when you attach the charger it wants to do something but stops everything after 2 seconds. I left it plugged in for maybe 1 min and its just repeated this action maybe 20 times.
At no stage when i press the power buttong, plugged in or not does it react.
I have taken out the hard drive and plugged into another manchine as an external drive and it works perfectly. Hard drive is no problem! From what i can see all connections are ok, and appear to be plugged in correctly, no burn marks or damage visible.
    Logic board failure from impact?
    Thanks,
    Gary
