Fan doesn't stop

Hi,
My iMac FAN doesn't stop. I have reset the SMC as recommended but nothing happens.
Does a new power supply cable can solve this? Does anyone have solve this that seems to be enough common?

Normally, when fans don't stop working and the SMC reset doesn't solve it, there are two reasons: a damaged sensor or a process that is consuming the RAM and CPU

i have a little Problem after the exchange of my 500GB HD that was totaly noisy i have now the problem that the
fan of my T420 doesn't like to stop after some little stress.
for Example i'm running Prime95 for some minutes to simultate Compiling Stress.
In idle the system has someting around 40 °C. With Prime the Temp goes to 80-81 °C (no Turbo just 2.5 GHz)
after stopping the stress the temp drops back to 50 °C in about 40 sec
after a minute and a half its back to 43-44 °C but the fan is still running @ 3600 U/min
the fan then after about 10-15 minutes has cooled down to 35-36 °C but
even at 35-38 °C the fan isn't stopping anymore still running with 3600 U/min
anything i can do about this without 3. party tools? BIOS is now 1.46 but will still not regulate the fan down
if i wait a realy long time it sometimes stops the fan but this isn't a solution ^^
the noisy HDD nearly as loud then the fan @3600 isn't a Warenty reason or is it?

I have the same issue, also suspected it might be a problem with linux.

Reset the SMC using the directions below:
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

HT1446 my battery on macbook pro will not charge, light doesn't show on connector (but works with my partners mac) and fan will not stop running.

Help please...fan won't stop running and battery just has a cross through it on screen. Connector does not light up,

MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2009: Fan doesn't kick in

A week ago, my MBP's fan stopped working. My MBP doesn't have AppleCare so I bought a new fan and replaced it. The new fan has been working like a charm but then I notice that my new fan doesn't kick in when the temperature goes up. It always stays at the mininum speed (set by smcFanControl - 3000 rpm) even when the temperature reaches more than 90 degree Celsius, although I can force it to spin at 6200 rpm by using smcFanControl.
I tried to reset the SMC & PRAM and performed an extended Apple Hardware Test but found no error.
Later, I tried to uninstall smcFanControl and all its plist files, reset the SMC, and reboot in Safe Mode. The fan speed was reset to 2000 rpm. This time the fan automatically, albeit slowly kicked in around 3400 rpm when the CPU's temp reached about 85 degree and stayed at that speed for minutes. Shouldn't it be at 6200 rpm?
I have no idea either the problem is hardware or software related or both. What should I do? Thank you in advance.

It should rise to 6000 rpm when the temperature gets into the 80's - it's possible the third party software you used has messed up the internal settings but uninstalling and doing an NVRAM and SMC reset should have resolved that, perhaps something is still active from those installations, a kernel extension somewhere perhaps ? Utilities like FindAnyFile will search for any text string/name right across your system (unlike SpotLight) so maybe try something like that to see if any SMC bits are left ?

MSI K7T266 Pro2 cpu fan doesn't start

I have the mainboard MSI K7T266 Pro2, I have just upgraded my bios to version 3.7. When I start my computer, it stops and beeps to warn me that the cpu fan is'nt running, but when I open the computer to see If the cpu fan is running it does start, so why does is say that the fan doesn't star when it acctually does start?

No....!! There is nothing bad mounted.
The reason for this post of you PC, is that the cooler isn't running fast enough for the BIOS, so your BIOS just wantst to warn you. The easiest way to get rid of it, is to disable the "CPU Fan Detection" in the BIOS, or connect the fan to another plug. That's all there is to it!

HP PRO 3400 Series desktop won't boot CPU fan starts and stops , no video, no beeps

I have the above computer with an i3-2125 CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and a 300GB Seagate Hard drive. I've had it for about 2 years and been working fine. It started acting up about 2 months ago. It would lose the date and time. I checked the battery, and it was OK, so I kept using the computer. Then on 9/15/2014 it hung on "Starting Windows", I did the following:
1. Ran the built in HP diagnostic on hard drive and memory and they both passed.
2. Tried to go to last known good configuration and nothing happened.
3. Noticed the date and time were off, replaced the battery, nothing changed.
4. Tried another hard drive from another HP PRO 3400 Series and it would boot up but could not set date in bios.
5. Tried all kinds of things but could not set date in bios.
      a. Bios date read 48/00/0048 after removing and replacing battery.
      b, Tried to reset date to 9/16/2914 and it gets 56/00/0051
6. Then it wouldn't boot at all.   So now when you turn on the power, the CPU fan starts and runs for about 1 second, then shuts off for 4 seconds, then starts and runs for another 1 sec and it does this continuously. There is  no video and no beeps and no difference when all memory is removed.
7. I removed the power supply, and checked voltages. It appears to be OK.
8. I removed the motherboard, and inspected it- saw nothing obvious.
9. I connected the power supply to the motherboard with nothing else connected to the motherboard, and I get the same thing. CPU fan starts then stops continuously, no video no beeps.
10. I am thinking it is the Motherboard, but I sure could use some suggestions as to what to do next.

I am having a painful problem with itunes 10, everytime I go into the itunes store to search for a song, even if I type one letter in it will instantly launch into search mode and doesn't stop, so I'm unable to find

Since itunes 2.0.4 has been downloaded. My ipod doesn't synchronize properly/ at all.The LED screen shows "copy 1 or 2 from 101" and it will remain like that. It looks like sync but there's nothing to happen. It doesn't stop by it self. How to solve?

I have exactly the same issues with my new 80G iPOD. I have found that when connecting to my PC, the iPOD does not start iTUNES 7. This can be resolved by stopping the iPOD Service in Computer Management, connecting the iPOD and then starting it again. Seems like a stupid long-winded way to do things, but at least you can get some stuff on to your iPOD.
As far as using Restore goes - I just get the restoring iPOD message you described, which it blatantly isn't :((

Fan starts and stops periodically on new Eee

Hi,
unfortunately, there's an annoying flaw with my newly obtained Eee: It's all in all a very nice and useful netbook, and I love the fact that it's both light and quiet, it's barely hearable at all. If the fan starts though, I need earlaps.
The overall temperature is very high also, but I think this is normal with those new netbooks. Usually the temperature is about 60°C. I noticed that the temperature gets higher very easily, and after some time, the fan starts working and it's annoyingly loud. After some time, even with small applications running the fan would start, makes some noise, and quits afterwards until some minutes later it will start again and again and so on ...
Usually, I install everything that is mentioned in the Wiki that has something to do with power control, e.g. cpufreq, pm-utils, acpid but I still suffer from nuisance. I tried both ondemand and conservative governor, though the fan doesn't mind. I wouldn't mind working with low CPU speed if just the fan wouldn't start even when I just chat or browse the web.
If this procedure starts at one time, it's difficult that the fan would rest even if the temperature is low again. Once I want to play a video on YouTube or something similiar, the fan will overtune the video. I can't even imagine what I do that needs so much resources. If I observe the temperature in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ00/temperature, the temperature jumps some degrees higher just when I click some widgets (or write this text) ...
Has anyone an idea what I could do to get a little bit of silence? I can't imagine that this behaviour is normal, and I would appreciate any hints.
Sorry you probably notice that I'm a little bit annoyed of the fan.
In the end, if nothing helps I'm thinking about buying a cooling pad for notebooks, if I get the chance ...

I found the granularity of BIOS-level fan control to be quite lacking too.
The kernel (eeepc-laptop module) provides fan control in /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0 by default. There are several interfaces. Usage examples:
pwm1_enable shows if software-side fan control is enabled (1) or if the BIOS is handling the fan (0). Changing fan speed won't work if this is 0. (i.e. cat /sys/class/hwmon0/pwm1_enable reports 0 -> disabled; you could enable it with echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon0/pwm1_enable).
pwm1 allows to change fan speed. The values range from 0 (fan off) to 255 (full speed, 12V).
fan1_input shows the current RPM if a fan is connected. You can only read from this interface. Its useful to check all of these in the each of the hwmon folders to find out if there is actually a fan connected to the fan controller (they often have more ports than mainboard manufacturers use).
There are various applications to utilize these in order to tweak fan control to your liking, a lightweight one is the fancontrol daemon. If you don't mind 'some' gnome dependencies, eee-control has an awesome fan control algorithm too (options -> smart fan control).
laptop-mode and acpi-eeepc-generic don't feature fan control.
The cpufreq utility has only a marginal impact, as it changes the FSB/CPU multiplier and the Atom has a measly TDP of 2,5W compared to the chipset's 6W - the fan is primarily need to cool the northbridge. Side note: There is an interface to control FSB clock rate: /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/cpufv. 2 is 100MHz, 1 is 133MHz, 0 is 140MHz. eee-control manage this too, it's the "Performance" setting. There also is a laptop-mode add-in to control it dependant on AC status.

Fan doesn't work

I have a ENVY 17-j161ea and suddenly one of the fans doesn't seem to work anymore. When I play a game, the laptop reboots and I get a nice screen before boot that it is dangerous to continue because one of the fans isn't working.
I am currently monitoring the temp and the CPU is runing at +/- 65 celcius with no load. I don't dare put any load on it...
The laptop is 11 months so just within warrenty however I would like to know what the odds are that HP will fix my laptop...
I removed the recovery partition and added an additional SSD where I installed win 8.0 on. The laptop is officially not supported for 8, only 8.1.
I had to to use my own OS because they didnt support installing the original OS on my own SSD...
I also "abused" the laptop when it came to usage. I rendered a lot on it. Some days it was rendering for 8 hours at 100% CPU. In addition to this I also am a chess player so the laptop is calculating some moves which can take a few hours and also requires 100% CPU.
I am worried that because of my SSD, other OS, removes recovery partition and over usage HP will simply say it was my fault and it's not a hardware fault and those fans are not designed for such a purpose.

I see that you are getting a fan error after you have been playing a game for awhile. Here is a link to System Fan (90b) error message on startup that will guide you through trying to resolve this difficulty.
I understand that you have made some changes to your notebook. If you were to remove the drive that you installed and just have the original drive in the notebook with the original OS, I think you would still be entitled to warranty. Regardless it is worth a phone call. Worse case scenario would be that they say no. I do know they would ask you to have only the original drive installed with the original OS.

You can install Temperature Monitor and have a look if the CPU oder GPU oder something else went to hot. The processor has a built in safety mechanism to shut down the computer before taking damage.

I changed from IE to Firefox. When I click on a shortcut in an email, I get the message "an error occurred in sending the command to the application" in Outlook. It doesn't stop Firefox opening and going to the site, but is annoying.

The PSE 10 process doesn't stop after closing the application. Why??

On Windows 7, the PSE 10 process doesn't stop when closing the application, therefore the PSE 10 app. will not restart once it is closed. The user must stop the process from task manager or reboot before PSE 10 can be restarted on a Windows 7 machine. The forum suggestion to double-click the exe (instead of the shortcut) as a solution, obviously isn't a solution and can't work. There are no updates to PSE 10 and the only access to any support is through this forum. There have been complaints about this on blogs all over the Internet. Why can't Adobe come up with a fix/update or if they have where is it posted?

First of all, there is no difference between the files on the disk and those downloaded as the trial. The only difference is that one comes with a serial number and the other does not. You can put your serial number into the trial version and it will then be activated. The only way the disk would behave differently is if there is some physical flaw (scratches, warping, etc). Usually such damage will cause the installation to fail, it's pretty difficult for such damage to modify the files in such a way that they still install but behave differently.
If you are dropping a file on the shortcut and the Photoshop Elements Editor is opening but the file is not, there could be a few different things going on there. Check your shortcut properties first: does it go to PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe or Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe? If the former, then there are probably some missing support files. If the latter, this is the Welcome Screen, which has likely been configured to launch the Editor automatically. However, you would be sending the file to the Welcome Screen, which doesn't do anything with the file. It is not capable of passing the file off to the Editor, only capable of launching it.
Also, double-clicking a shortcut is generally the exact same thing as double-clicking the file the shortcut points to, but you can add modifiers to shortcuts to make them behave differently.

Satellite M30-604 freezes and fan doesn't work after replacement

Satellite SM30-604. Laptop left on carpet overnight and overheated! Fan doesn't spin and laptop only occasionally starts up. Thinking the fan was fault I replaced the fan but even this new fan doesn't spin. The heatsink is totally clean - no dust inside the vanes at all. The laptop is only 2 years old.
Using forced-cooling (by sticking a vacuum nozzle at the cooling fan outlet!) the laptop occasionally starts up like normal right up to the Desktop screen with all usual icons and no error messages. But then it goes no further - the screen, keyboard and mouse freeze.
Most of the time it doesn't start up at all. When it doesn't start, the blue LED comes on but there's no hard-disk activity or LCD screen at all - even the wifi LED doesn't even come on.
Really grateful if anyone know's what's going on. Not sure if it's the main CPU that's faulty?

Like you know on this way it is not easy to give any precise diagnostic but according to your posting I presume that there is some complex problem and unit should be checked properly. I also think that there must be some problem with electronic.
It is really possible that mainboard must be replaced but, as I already said, it is no possible to say anything precise about your problem. Try to contact Asp and you will see what they will say.
