Fan for a macbook 13" (Jan 2008 model)

This is the fan installed in my apple macbook 13inch - Jan 2008 2.3Ghz Core duo. I've now bought three replacement fans supposedly for this model macbook and ALL THREE are smaller than the one illustrated (installed in my macbook) All of the ones that I have purchased (correct part number) are 58mm x 52mm, where as my installed fan is 62mm X 60mm
Can anyone help explain the inconsistence, and better still explain how I can aquire the correct part please?

Hi, Finally got the macbook working again (albeit with a faulty fan). Here's the "about my mac"
and...
Also, here's a picture of the actual Fan, with its number & size.
Thanks

  • HT3235 Will generic DVI to VGA adapter work with Macbook Pro (Early 2008 Model)??

I have a 15" MacBook Pro (Early 2008 model).  I lost the Apple DVI to VGA adapter for use with my projector, and it appears this older model is no longer available.  Will a generic DVI/VGA adapter, from Best Buy for example, work?  I wasn't sure if there was anything specific to the Apple adapter?  I am supposed to give a lecture in 2 days and can't find my adapter!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes it will, assuming that you do not have a display like the 30" Apple Cinema Display that requires dual-link DVI.

  • Internal HD upgrade or external HD for my Macbook Pro (Late 2008)

    Hello,
I am finding the 250gb internal hard drive not enough and want to upgrade to a 500gb/1tb hard drive for my macbook pro (late 2008 edition).
What I am wondering is whether to change the internal hard drive OR buy the fastest possible external hard drive for my mac which I believe is one that works with firewire 800 as my late 2008 macbook pro does not come with USB 3.0.
The external hard drive I have found is £110 and my macbook would be using the Firewire 800 connection:
LaCie Rugged Triple 301984 1TB USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 5400 rpm Portable Hard Disk Drive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rugged-Triple-301984-Firewire-Portable/dp/B005C2BNJI
I dont necessarily need the portability of a external hard drive. I work with large files (photoshop, illustrator files mainly) and would would be concerned that I would not be able to work directly on the hard drive for this type of work so an internal hard drive may be better/
Can anyone suggest a good, fast, cheap, popular internal hard drive compatible with my computer and whether you would suggest changing the internal HD or buying an external.
I am running Mavericks and the only other change I have made is by upgrading my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Thanks so much for your help

For both convenience and speed, I'd recommend replacing the internal hard drive.  Your MacBook Pro can handle nearly any internal SATA 2.5" HD on the market, including 7200rpm models. For what it's worth, I'd recommend a Western Digital Black WD7500BPKX or similar or Hitachi HGST 7K1000 although in my experience Hitachi drives run hot and that's the reason I don't use them as internal drives.
FW800 is fine, but then you have an external hard drive to lug around plus the connection is considerably slower than the internal SATA connection used by the internal hard drive.
Note that you will have to either 1) clone your existing drive to the new drive or 2) completely reinstall OSX and all your apps from scratch to the new drive when you replace the internal drive.   If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to reinstall everything from scratch.
btw, I have done this myself on a number of 2008/2009 MacBook Pros and it's not hard at all.  iFixit has tutorials on how to do this.  (Here is a link to the one that I believe is your model.

  • HD Upgrade in MacBook Pro (Early 2008 Model) Recommendations?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2008 Model), with Snow Leopard 10.6.6 installed (will probably upgrade to Lion when it's released and stable). I want to upgrade the 200gb drive to something over 500gb. The two drives I am currently interested in are the:
    1) Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD6400BEVT 640GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive
    2) Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive
However, I have read of people having problems (hard drive going to sleep, and beach-ball of death whenever you need to load an application or something, etc.) with the Western Digital Scorpio Blue drives in their MacBook Pros. I don't want to have to do a lot of tweaking, I just want to be able to install and go.
Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on a hard drive to put in this laptop? Any success stories with Early 2008 model HD upgrades?
    Thank you,
    Jesse

I would go with the faster drive (Seagate 7200 RPM drive) as you will notice the difference in speed. I've got a Seagate Momentus 320 Gig (7200 RPM) that I put in my late 2007 MBP and have had no issues with it.
I seem to get more of a beachball from my Time Machine drive spinning up than I do from the internal drive. It is noticeable but tolerable.

  • Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Installing RAM in a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro
There is really only one way to install RAM into a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro and while there are hundreds of DIY videos online, I just like this one, found on YouTube, by “macmixing”.
Note that there is a difference in the RAM that should be used in 2011 and 2012 models.
    2011 models must use:
    •204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    And 2012 models must use:
    •204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    So here's the video:
Remember that the 13", 15" and 17" 2011 models (early or late) and the 13" and 15" mid-2012 non-Retina models can handle 4GB, 8GB or (unofficially, but, believe me, it works) 16GB of RAM. There are, in my opinion, only two 100% Mac-compatible vendors out there: Crucial and OWC. I really can't recommend any other brands, even though it may work, as these are the only brands that I've personally used in quite a while. Also remember to stay away from any RAM that is a “value” brand - Macs are picky about RAM and often these value RAM modules just don’t work very well.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Is OS X 10.5.8 the last free software for a MacBook purchased in 2008?

Is OS X 10.5.8 the last free software for a MacBook purchased in 2008?

    In one way yes.
If you want to Upgrade your OS X...
The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

I have posted this annoying Robles to bugreport.apple.com. Hope I can get locution (although Apple normally will not respond):
On a software name Appfresh, it alerted me to update my MBPr 15 inches running latest OSX 10.8.2, with Chinese Word List Update 1.2. When I clicked on Software Pdate, app Store return No update available.
My system have Chinese Word List Update 1.0 installed, and on October 5, 2012, Chinese Word List Update 1.1 was released by Apple, as alerted through AppFresh. However, this update never get updated on m system. I have to manually download chinesewordlistupdate.pkg from reviews.cnet.com/macfixit and install it manually. By doing so, I have Chinese Word List Update 1.1 on my system.
The same problem occurred again today on November 5, 2012, where Chinese Word List Update is released by Apple. again, it fail to update from Software Update menu.
    Can you please:
    1. Explain why this problem occurred. This is so annoying.
    2. Advise me how can I get this Chinese Word List Date to update to version 1.2. Can you please send me the chinesewordlistupdate.pkg for version 1,2 so that I can manually install it on my system?
    3. How can I prevent similar problem with he subsequent version?
Why Apple don't make this update standard as other update?
Support please. Thank for response in advance

  • Macbook wiped clean (2008 model), and I'm not able to save the installer and can't get mac os x.  Any suggestions?

I recently bought a used macbook (2008) and was told that it was set back to factory settings and came with all the orignal software, box etc.  The first Installer disk of the Mac os X was already in the disc drive, but I'm not able to get past where it saves the installer.  It wasn't able to find anywhere to save it.  I have no clue what to do.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help!

Snow Leopard disc must look like this to run on a 2008 MacBook:
and not say Update, Dropin, OEM, or any Mac model on it.
2008 MacBooks could at minimum also use the 10.5.6 retail disc that looked like:
And some of the earliest 2008 models can use 10.5.4 as well, but it couldn't say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM or a Mac model on it, except MacBook, if it was the one bundled with that MacBook.
If the disc is stuck in the drive, use this tip to remove it:

  • My macbook pro 15, 2008 model says it's charging, amber light on magsafe, yet battery icon remains at 9%

    Help needed!
My macbook pro 15, early 2008 model, runs on mountain lion, has developed a problem with charging. When I plug in the magsafe charger , it lights up amber  (to suggest it's charging) and the battery charging icon at the top right of the screen is visible.  Furthermore when I check the system power settings it says the battery is charging.
However! the  percentage of charge doesn't seem to be increase!  I had it charging for over 2 hours last night and the charge remained at 9% which is where it was when I started....
    Can anyone help?
    thanks

Yes, I boot up from the OS 10.6.3 installation disc and use Disc Utility to repair Disk and Permissions. I must tell you though, I've done the disc repair and permission repair quite a few times and it has never helped. Right now I've forgotten the OS disc in Luxemburg so I can only get it when I'm back in 3 weeks.
I ran Disc Utility today though and repaired permissions. The only one that wasn't fixed was an SUID-file.
I also checked the disc and it has some problems but I can't fix them until I get my OS disc or if I ask them to do it at the Genius Bar.
Yes, I have a Time Machine backup on an external usb HDD, last time I backed up was yesterday.

  • What is the best laptop cooling fan for a macbook pro?

I have my macbook on basically all day every day and I just want a nice cooling fan for underneath it so it doesn't overheat on me

I've never had any overheating issues, even when it is hard at work with several VMWare Fusion instances running concurrently. Just placed it on top of a Roadtech Coolpad (a passive laptop stand) and it's kept its cool thus far.

I was fortunate enough that I removed it before any real damage was done to my computer, however I'm not sure of the correct model of my computer or where to find the correct battery for it. I want to be sure I don't buy the wrong replacement for it. Do all the Macbook pro's use the same battery from 2008 til now??? Please help!!!!!!! I'm tired of always having to be plugged in...lol

Ok, so I use this laptop for a variety of things, including watching television, work, and playing video games. Occasionally (read: consistently but still seemingly random) when under moderate-heavy stress, the computer will "shut down". What I mean by this is the screen will instantly turn black, and there will be an audio stutter remaining with the only option being to do a hard restart. This happens on a variety of games and videos, including League of Legends and Counter Strike, mostly everything I play consistently. I will post the crash report below as well.

Anyway, I really appreciate the help in advance. Since I just had this computer repaired, I find it highly unlikely this is due to my own error, and is more than likely hardware based. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you.

This is telling you the issue: the NVIDIA GPU is damaged.
As this is hardware issue, the only thing you can do is to make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get the logic board replaced again. Your Mac is still under the 90-day warranty of the last repair, so it will be free
