Fan for Satellite L755D

I came into this Troubleshooting forum convinced I had a fan problem, but now I'm no longer convinced. My fan doesn't run at 100% or anywhere near that rate, but every minute or two I do hear it, at about the lowest level possible. It will run for about 10 seconds, then stop.
I saw in the fan thread, that many were complaining that it was running at full power or close to it. I can guarantee you that this doesn't happen on my laptop; I have heard it get loud (when watching video), but that isn't what I'm writing about.
Is the issue I'm having--many times a day--and I know this didn't happen with my old laptop.
I'm wondering if this will wear down the fan prematurely? Or are fans nowadays built for this continual low-level on-and-off activity?
I saw on the fan thread, that some had resolved thier issues with a BIOS update. The only BIOS version for my particular laptop dates to August, so I must already have it installed (I bought it in early October).

  • No Bios Update for Satellite: L755D-S5204 / Inability to change Memory Settings in Bios

Ok so I bought two new 8GB of BLUE Kingston Hyperx 1600 MHZ Memory Modules with heat spreaders recently from newegg.
I installed them, and my system recognizes the full 8 GB, but when running CPU-Z the memory MHZ is registering in at 665.5 MHZ.
I want to be able to run my Memory at least the STANDARD minimum 1333 MHZ if not be able to change the MHZ if possible to 1600 MHZ.  I CANNOT DO THIS WITH THE BIOS THAT CAME WITH MY SYSTEM, AND I CANNOT FIND A BIOS UPDATE ANYWHERE ON THE TOSHIBA SITE THAT WILL LET ME DO THIS.
My system Laptop Satellite L755D-S5204 has the basic Bios that came with the system.  However I do not know or CAN NOT FIND any flash updates to update the bios so I can change these setting.
My question to Toshiba Tech support is it possible to clock my system memory higher, and how do I do this with a BIOS that doesn't let me make any changes to my Voltage to my Memory, and doesn't let me make any changes to system memory or memory timing settings??
When you figure that out and if you could possibly help me resolve this problem, please email me because as a computer technician I am really intrigued as to the reason why Toshiba doesn't have a FLASH BIOS UPDATE that will let you change the Memory settings, and Memory Timings!!
    Thanks,

BIOS does not provide such option!
I have no idea what graphic card you have but for example the Sat P850-138 was equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphic card.
This GPU supports dedicated VRAM (default 2048MB)
The available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through TurboCache
In case the system memory would be expanded to 6GB RAM, the TurboCache technology could use up to 4,095 MB VRAM

  • Need cooling fan for Satellite A50-542

    Hi,
I have a SA50-542 and the cooling fan has packed in.
Any guidance as to where I might be able to get another one?
    many thanks dan

    Hello Dan
What to say? Either you can contact authorized service provider in your country and try to order one there or you can google around and search if any online shop offer notebook parts.
I do not see any other way to find this hardware component.
Oh yes. You can also check eBay. There you can find many hardware components for different Toshiba notebooks especially for older notebook models.

  • Fan for Satellite 2410-404

    Hello Everyone,
the CPU fan of my Sat 2410-404 broke down. I can't seem to get a spare part, dealers appear to be out of stock or won't ship to continental europe. I've even been looking for similar radial fans but so far no luck.
Does anyone have a hint for me as to where to ask for this particular spare part? The part's code is GDM610000063.
Many thanks in advance, looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Fan for satellite A105-S4324

is the fan supposed to run all the time when laptop is on and can i turn the laptop upside down with the laptop on to see if the fan is on?  also is it easy to take off the back and replace the fan or clean it. also is it easy to replace the hard drive are there instructions in the  built in user guide?

here are some instructions on how to get inside your laptop. if the laptop is still under warranty do NOT open the case. this will void your warranty. to clean the fan just use compressed air to spray out the ducts and the fan. when doing this hold the fan still with a toothpick to keep the fan from over spinning which will cause damage.
    disassemble A105

  • Owner's Manual for my Toshiba Satellite L755D laptop?

I would like to d/l the owner's manual (and a service manual, if there is one) for my laptop (L755D-S5218). I didn't find it at the Toshiba site, and even their own "auto-detect utility" was run, but then the website said there isn't any product like that or something of the sort.
Can anyone get me a link to this manual? The latpop itself isn't even a year old; I'm surprised that I'm having this much trouble.

First, you have a copy of your User's Guide right there on your desktop.  Type User's Guide in  the Start/Search box and hit enter and there it is.
Second, the Online copy is at this website which has all the details on your machine.
You can find a repair manual of sorts at this site.

  • Satellite L755D-S5204 dead after new Win XP setup

Regarding that Toshiba Lab Top which I have Bought last weak,
Model: Satellite *L755D-S5204*, I had to setup a new system (Windows XP SP3 32bit)
But there is a one major problem; which is that the drivers definitions DvD was not Included with the Lab Top, and my Lab Top is currently dead.
I will be grateful if you provide me with a download link for the drivers Definitions DvD.

Well, you will not get the Toshiba Win XP Utilities working because there are no any Win XP driver or tools available for this notebook series. I really don't understand why you did not check this before installing an old system...
Of course LAN driver, WLan or BT stack could be downloaded from other notebook series or driver page You have to know what LAN or WLan card is installed in your notebook for that I recommend installing an hardware diagnostic software like Everest Home Edit or SANDRA Software to get more details about the hardware parts.
Then you could google for some compatible drivers

  • Satellite L755D - Data drive D partition is full

I have a problem with the Data drive on my Toshiba Satellite L755D. It gets easily full.
    As it is now:
    (Translated from danish)
    Securitycopy of datafiles 40,18 GB
    System picture 106,26 GB
    Other files 15,08 GB
    Free space 71,52 GB
I just erased one of the securitycopies of the datafiles, because there were only 21 MB free space left on the Datadrive.
Why is there so much on the D-drive?
And why does it get full, so often? It is really annoying.
I have had a lot of other computers, but never had that problem before, I got this Toshiba.

    > On the D-drive there is:
    >080599-TOSH
    >HDDRecovery
    >WindowsImageBackup
    >MediaId(VLC mediafile)
    >R16554NH.tag
The 080599-TOSH HDD Recovery is the mentioned HDD recovery folder.
    > WindowsImageBackup
This could be an Windows image backup file. Possibly the automatic Windows backup is enabled which creates automatically the system backup on the partition.
Should check the control panel (icon view)-> Backup & Restore
There you should see if backup has been created.
    > But is it normal for a Toshiba computer to have a full Data drive?
Normal? If you bought the notebook, the D partition was not full. The size of Toshiba HDD recovery folder is about 12GB-15GB.
By the way: the partition size can be always changed using for example a tool called Gparted.
Of course you can delete the files. But in your case I would create the Recovery Disks and Recovery flash memory stick before deleting the recovery files.
In case you delete the recovery file, the HDD recovery would not function

  • Satellite L755D PSK36E - need Windows 7 drivers

    Hello,
I have the Laptop of my Girlfriend and she ask me to install windows 7 (64bit) for her.
I did it with a Dvd that i had have from my own Pc.
But now i have a problem.
On the new installed Laptop aren't any drivers i think.
The WLan isnt working, and also the desktop are very.... mutch pixeled i guess.
Can someone give me somethink like a pack of drivers that i need?
    Its a Satellite L755D PSK36E
    I hope for some help..
    /Pascal

    Hello Pascal
At first I must say that Im really wondering you didnt start to help your girlfriend doing first logical step: pick up some info about this machine. Why?
This notebook model was delivered with original preinstalled Win7 64bit so best and easiest way to reinstall Win7 was to make HDD recovery installation. I don't know if your girlfriend has created recovery media in the past. You can ask her and use created discs for OS installation.
Anyway, of course you can install own OS version but problem is that after this installation you have killed original recovery mage.
So now after clean Windows installation you need to install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities manually, one by one.
    Here is the installation order:
    Win7 SP1
    TOSHIBA Supervisor Password Utility
    TOSHIBA HW Setup Utility
    TOSHIBA Assist
    AMD xHC driver
    AMD Display Driver
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    ATI HDMI Audio Driver 7
    Conexant Audio Driver
    Wireless LAN Driver
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Bluetooth Monitor
    Bluetooth Filter Driver Package
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
    Atheros LAN Driver
    Realtek Card Reader
    TOSHIBA Wireless LAN Indicator
    TOSHIBA Sleep Utility
    TOSHIBA Face Recognition
    TOSHIBA eco Utility
    TOSHIBA HDD/SSD Alert
    TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
    ConfigFree
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
TOSHIBA Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool
    TOSHIBA Media Controller
    TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in
    PatchFiles PCIIDEREG-1.2
    PatchFiles TosVolRegulator_x64_1.1
Of course, if you want you can order original recovery installation disc - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Satellite L755D-S5204 space bar key does not always enter space

Thank you for your reply.  I wish I felt comfortable popping off the spacebar, Im concerned I might break it and void my warranty. It is completely unacceptable that they have not fixed this problem atter three years!  I have contacted Costco Corporate offices and Consumer Reports. Here is an example of a sentence without correcting the space bar. "Nowis the time tocome to the aid ofyour country man" It is maddening!

I bought my Satellite L755D-S5204 less than 2 months ago. The space bar does not always register a space. It seems to be the right side thumb hit area. My question is: I noticed a lot of the same problem in forums etc. and a lot of frustration with repair depot and Toshiba skirting the issue, SO.. 1. Is there a physical fix I can do? 2. Will a replacement keyboard fix this or is it luck of the draw with  this type keyboard, maybe it will work maybe it won't?  Anyway I really don't want to send it to UPS depot and get it back with the same issue. I am willing to buy a new keyboard but how do I know if it is a good one or not?  Is there a Toshiba "fix keyboard" number or something? Is there an  upgraded keyboard available?  I so want to enjoy my new machine. Any or all info will be appreciated.

  • How do I tune TCP SYN resend/retransmit rate for satellite?

On a satellite internet connection MacOSX (and, I believe, iPhones) have excessively aggressive SYN resend timing.
The existing settings make iTunes and SSL based services (banking, email etc) unreliable and often unworkable.
Plain HTTP (most web browsing) gives the appearance of working because browsers quietly retry.
I have been unable to find a setting in Preferences or sysctl to adjust this. And of course there's nothing useful on an iPhone. It would be helpful if there was some switch for "satellite" or "high latency" networks.
    Summary:
When combined with the (common) TCP accelleration in a satellite modem, TCP connections from a Mac over satellite often get reset right at the start when the connection is commencing because of a race condition between the modem's stateful connection proxying and MacOSX's excessively rapid SYN resends.
    Workaround:
Running a proxy between the Mac and the modem (in our case, in our firewall) where the proxy runs on a more conventional machine with much slower (normal) SYN resend times seems to work around the issue by making the Mac's connection to the proxy, and the proxy's connection over the satellite connection. Because the proxy's host has better TCP behaviour, the connections succeed.
    Detailed problem description and explaination:
At times, SSL connections (HTTPS, POP3S, IMAPS) and other connections receive a batch of RST packets just after setup, leading to connection refused or connection reset by peer. Depending on the app, you get an assortment of errors messages of varying vagueness. iTunes is especailly useless here, just saying an unknown error occurred.
For something that reports the OS-level error you get message like this:
socket error ([Errno 54] Connection reset by peer)
Generally, if the connection succeeds it will stay up. The failure occurs at connection setup time.
From running tcpdumps on my firewall when this is happening, the behaviour is as follows:
For background to understand what follows: a TCP connection is established by you sending a SYN (synchronise) packet to the far end. The far end replies with a SYN/ACK acknowledging the connection. You then send an ACK ackowledging receipt of the SYN/ACK. And then you send and receive data packets.
A successful connection looks like this (you may need to make your window rather wide):
    16:47:47.896426 172.16.3.7.50142 > X.X.X..995: S 2233798023:2233798023(0) win 65535 <mss 1460,nop,wscale 4,nop,nop,timestamp 1306458055 0,sackOK,eol> (DF)
    16:47:48.597903 172.16.3.7.50142 > X.X.X.X.995: S 2233798023:2233798023(0) win 65535 <mss 1460,nop,wscale 4,nop,nop,timestamp 1306458755 0,sackOK,eol> (DF)
    16:47:48.643500 X.X.X.X.995 > 172.16.3.7.50142: S 0:0(0) ack 2233798024 win 13312 <mss 1321>
    16:47:48.644794 172.16.3.7.50142 > X.X.X.X.995: . ack 1 win 65535 (DF)
    16:47:48.645639 172.16.3.7.50142 > X.X.X.X.995: P 1:307(306) ack 1 win 65535 (DF)
So: the normal SYN, a duplicate SYN 701ms later (much too early), a SYN/ACK from the far end and an ACK for that from  this end. And then normal traffic.
An unsuccessful connection looks like this:
    16:48:11.094536 172.16.3.7.50144 > X.X.X.X.995: S 2181400205:2181400205(0) win 65535 <mss 1460,nop,wscale 4,nop,nop,timestamp 1306481128 0,sackOK,eol> (DF)

A normal SYN, which gets repeated 703ms later, then 302ms after that, then 301ms later, then 302ms later. Then a SYN/ACK from the far end 2097 milliseconds after the first SYN. Then yet another repeated SYN from our end 303ms after the last SYN, then immediately an RST. Our ACK follows (probably already dispatched by the Mac before the RST, but arriving at the firewall just after the RST) and a PUSH with the first data. Two more immediate RSTs come back, presumably for each of these data packets.
By comparison, our BSD firewall resends the first SYN 6 seconds after the original, then even slower. Comparsed to 600-700ms, then every 300ms from the Mac. The Mac's resends interact very badly with sat modem TCP acceleration and sat latency.
There seem to be a few things going on here:
Firstly, something is sending too many SYN packets. There is no need to send repeated SYNs every 300ms. Certainly the best round trip latency over a satellite is about 700ms. The coincidence of the satellite latency and the first resend time probably exacerbates things.
Secondly, sending a SYN _after_ the far end's SYN/ACK has come back seems to elicit an RST packet. I think this is because the modem has established state for the connection because it has seen the far end's reply, and is rejecting what it now thinks is an attempt to set up a new connection using the same ports (forbidden).
Third, this happens more at times of congestion, because the SYN/ACK takes a little longer to come back.
Fourth, the immediacy of the RST packets seems to suggest the RSTs are coming from the modem. So it is probably doing TCP accelleration, and that is producing the RSTs.
    There are two problems here:
Up front, the Mac is producing SYNs too often when starting a connection. This exacerbates the problem into something that happens frequently (when it happens at all). This may be TCP "fast mode", but regardless I cannot seem to turn it off.
Second, one could argue that that modem is being overly strict about rejecting the extra SYN. Probably better to pass it through to the far end and let that decide whether to RST it. The modem is  doing TCP accelleration (which is fine – it permits better behaviour once the connection is established) but is considering the connection "established" too early. It seems to do it on seeing the SYN/ACK, instead of waiting to see the third packet (the ACK).
I also suspect this happens with plain HTTP as well, but that browsers hide it by retrying connections. The modem is not going to get fixed.
While I think I'm working around this in my firewall now by diverting all outbound satellite connections through a proxy, many users will not have that option, nor any ability to diagnose the issue. They'll just see "Macs don't work on satellite". I'm not alone; there is a scattering of posts on Whirlpool recounting similar symptoms on satellite with Macs.

    Hi Peter,
Simultaneous scanning attacks can be achived when the attack is launched with a botnet. At that moment "n" number of systems are launching attack without their knowledge.

I have download the file of Toshiba USA website, because my model doesn't exist in the Toshibas supports sites, but exist similar models (example: Satellite A105-S2194 - USA model - ).
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Jon
According the notebook description you must be from Venezuela. Am I right? ;)
I really do not know if there is Toshiba some support page for South America but few guys from there have had the same problem like you. I can not say for sure if you can use BIOS update from US support site. I recommend you to call Authorized service partner in your country. They work with this stuff and I am 100% sure they will be able to give you right info.
