Fan issues - noise unberable - mbpr

Hello,
I'm having serious problem with fan speed/noise. Without any hard CPU usage (less then 20%), CPU die - digital is always very high and, I suppose, put the fans so high that the noise is unbearable.
I already bring my mbpr at the apple store, SMC reset ran twice and the Hardware test gave no error. They recommend me to change my 2 fans (around 90$) but it did not resolve the noise issues...

GTX 680 Lightning Fan issue / noise

So I've had my 680 Lightning for just over a year now and it's been working great with no issues at all, until i cleaned it. It needed a clean since it had a nice layer of dust on the heat-sinks. For starters who ever designed the card so you can't take the case off without taking the whole GPU cooler off isn't that smart, it's a very badly designed since i can't clean the fan without voiding my warranty. ( Yes i know the fans spin up backwards to remove the dust on the GPU but over time you will still get a build up of dust on the heat-sink that needs to be removed )
Ok the issues is, when i was trying to remove the dust ( using a vacuum cleaner ) from one of the fans the plastic bit that is connected to the fan it self that holds the wires down broke, it's not causing any issues as the wires are not hitting the fans, i made sure of this. The real issue is that the other fan is making a high pitch noise / whine of sorts and it's driving me nuts( after cleaning ), the fans where very silent before the clean.
So where do i go from here? Is MSI willing to replace the fans? This issue would of never happened if i could of just taken the damn cover off in the 1st place since your fans going reverse on start up doesn't remove enough dust to not warrant a clean every once in a while.
Sorry if i sound :censored:ed but i paid over $630 Australian at the time when i bought it, it was marketed as an higher range card with the price to match it and for a higher range card one would expect to be able to clean it when it needs.
I've used vacuum cleaners all my life to clean Case fans, GPU fans and CPU fans and never had an issue until now.

Fans or other spare parts aren't sold separately. If your vga is still covered by warranty contact MSI if seller refuses rma: >>How to contact MSI.<<
That of course means the vga needs to be rma'ed. Alternatively you can use an aftermarket cooler like Alpenfoehn Peter, Prolimatech MK26 or Accelero Xtreme III

MBPr Fan issue

Hello,
I bought a macBook Pro Retina and have been experiencing some issues with the fan.I saw a lots of thread talking about fan issues but not sure if a solution has been found.
Problem : I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal. (low CPU usage et low temperature < 40°c)
Configuration : MBPr mid 2012 - i7 2.3ghz / 8GO Ram / 256GO SSD Samsung.
I have run all updates available for my machine.I ve tried the smc & pram reset.
Is there any solution ? Should I go to an apple store ?

You can also run an Apple Hardware test to see if ant problems are discovered. Do not assume that a no-error result is definitive.

Since you don't say how old your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

Internal fan issues

I have noticed that the fan in my macbook makes really loud noise when I turn the computer on, even when its really cool to touch. Also the fan is triggred on when I put it on any surface, when I am typing it turns off and as soon as I stop typing it turns back on. My apple care protection plan has expired, can someone please point out the problem and suggest what I should do to fix it.

I was able to resolve the fan issue. Just had to open the macbook and clean out the accumulated dust. Tedious work but worth it, works as good as new.

I am having trouble with my HDMI port on a brand new MSI GT70 2PC-1044US . Whenever I plug my HDMI cable from my notebook to the TV, after a few minutes (5 - 20 minutes), my fan will start reving at around 5k RPMs and sounds like a jet engine. When this happens, according to MSI Dragon Gaming Center tool/monitor, the GPU temp reading hits 255 degrees Celsius, which is clearly a glitch. I used another monitor, msi afterburner, and when this HDMI problem happens, this tool reads a normal 40 degrees Celsius.
Here are the things I have tried so far but the problem keeps reoccurring:
1. Called MSI tech support, sent me the link to the newest BIOS and updated it
2. Called MSI tech support again, claimed the HDMI is controlled by the intel graphic controller, and they recommended that i update intel drivers (every software tool on my notebook says it's the NVIDIA GPU that controls the HDMI port /shrug???), so i did this as well.
3. Called MSI teck support again, they suggested I send the notebook back to MSI so they could take a look at the hardware. I did not do this because I did not trust the tech guy and did not want to wait a few weeks to get my notebook back
4. Luckily, the store I bought my notebook at was nice enough to replace my notebook for a new one. I got home, tested it, and the same thing happened. So I think we eliminated faulty hardware.
So now what? What else can I try?

I'm in the same situation, a year ago I purchased a T420 and I was very pleased as the notebook was very quietly most of the time. My notebook was stolen a week ago () and I'm looking for a replacement. As I understand not everybody is suffering this problem of whining fan, have any idea if this problem could be associated to only some particular models??. For example, this problem affects both the models with integrated & dedicated graphics (as far as I understand the dedicated GPU can generate lots of extra heat inside the machine that needs to be dissipated)??

Fan like noise - Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch - late 2013 model

If I open Frontline Commando (game app) my brandnew Mackbook pro make fan like noise. (annoying and scary) Could anyone advice please?
my sys configuration:

Normal during gaming use, fan noise.
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics gaming (typical, all is OK)
A and D are normal
B and C are not.

When my iBook got hot like that, I would take a break and let it cool down.
You can buy laptop desks that have USB powered fans on them, such as the Targus Chill Mat.

G5 Unusual Fan Issue - Need Help

While I have read much about the G5 fan issues, I haven't found anything that matches mine.
This is a 1.8Ghz DP running OS 10.4.9 and it is really noisy due to the 2 drive bay fans running at top speed.
All other fans run properly and respond to the air deflector removal (also checked using iStat Pro)
Apple hardware diagnostics check out fine with everything passing and ambient temperature of the drive area is fine (90 or so degrees)as well.
I understand that the drive temperature sensor controls the speed, but typically the issue has been the other way around. Would unplugging the sensor for testing hurt the logic board? Could the fan be bad? How about the FCU? the other fans seem to work as advertised.
From the sounds of it, the Thermal calibration wouldn't be needed.
Does have anybody any idea of how to correct this or can the FCU be reset? I did reset the PMU several times.

Strangely enough, the answer to the problem was that the rpm controls in both the fan and the blower of the media bay were damaged. Power spike?
While they are difficult to come by (they can't be purchased separately as they are part of the enclosure assembly) they are certainly cheaper than a logic board.
Btw, if anyone else has a similar issue, the media blower is the only truly unique part. The media fan is the same as the fan in the speaker/fan assembly which can be easily found.

Fan issues galore

So (i'm not sure of the name of the fan) the fan that is on the face of the tower with the internal speaker attached to it...went nuts and I could not get it to stop. I was told to change out the PRAM battery. I did that. Still an issue. I was told to do a clean install of leopard. Did it. Still didn't solve the problem. Out of frustration, I unplugged that fan from the motherboard and now my hard drive fan is going nuts. All of my temps are normal, nothing above 50 degrees F. Do I just need a new fan or is there something i'm missing?

I was having fan speed issues and reinstalling the drivers for my graphics card (ATI x1900 and ATI Display utility) and restarting has apparently fixed it. I had noticed my OpenGL graphics weren't running properly and the 'Flurry' screen saver was choppy, as well as issues with DVD playback (error -70017). I was trying to fix those problems and it ended up solving them and the fan issue as well.
So maybe try reinstalling your graphics drivers and rebooting. Might be worth a try. Hope this helps.

Unique fan issue Dv7

Hi everyone !
I have an old Dv7 laptop and I know its known for heating issues but im facing a unique situation. Over the years I have never have any issue , only this week I have noticed it over heats. and on further observation I can see that the fan isnt running most of the time.
However If I tap the laptop's backside with my hand , fan just starts running as it should. I thought its some connection issue and opened it up but coulndt find anything. The fan isnt dirty aswell. Just wont run automatically....
Also on very very rare instances It starts itself aswell.
Is there something I can do myself with it OR just give up and take it to a repair guy ?

I mean it works normally when it finally starts , just wont trigger itself. Could be an issue with the temp sensor which senses the temperature and commands the fan to start ?

More Heat/Fan Issues with Tiger--Help

I have followed the heat & fan issues for sometime. However, I finally decided it was time to move from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3.
I upgraded yesterday, first using the upgrade option to move from 10.3.9 to 10.4.0 and then installed the 10.4.3 combo upgrade. I've repaired permissions and rebuilt the disk directory using Disk Warrior. There were no directory errors and only a couple of trivial permissions changes.
However, my Powerbook's fans are running constantly and my CPU heat is always pegged at about 135 degrees F, which is as hot as it ever gets. This happens within about 40 minutes of starting the Powerbook up cold and it stays that way for as long as I'm using it, regardless if there are any apps being used.
Activity Monitor indicates that the launchd process is using from 18% to 20% of my CPU, even with nothing else running. I've disabled all Spotlight indexing and I've turned Dashboard off. It appears that it's the lanchd process that is accounting for the extra heat and fan use. It simply won't drop below the 18% to 20% of CPU. There is no other process that is using any significant amount of my CPU when nothing else is running.
My processor is set at Automatic, the same as when I was using 10.3.9.
I was using Silk, Application Switching Menu (ASM) and Macaroni, but I've uninstalled them. No change.
I've reset the Power Manager (including deleting the com.Apple.PowerManagement.xml file) and reset NVRAM. Again, no change.
Finally, when I boot back into 10.3.9 (on my backup hard drive), the fan activity and heat return to what I consider normal--much lower than with 10.4.3. Specifically, the heat and fan activity is directly related to CPU use. If I'm not doing anything, the heat drops and all the fans go off.
There is one other curious effect of 10.4.3 vs. 10.3.9. When I'm running Firefox (latest version), all Firefox user-interface stuff (menu selections, opening many tabs in succession, etc.) are MUCH more sluggish than when using 10.3.9. Frankly, I was expecting the opposite.
I would really like some help with this. I've read all the troubleshooing info on MacFixit and Macintouch related to heat and fan issues associated with Tiger.

I'm the originator of this thread and I appear to have an answer.
I tried an "Archive and Install" of Tiger, on top of my existing 10.4.3 install that was giving me the trouble I described above. I had the time today and figured "what the heck[ll]".
I then installed each additional piece (10.4.3 combo update, airport updates, quicktime updates, java updates, etc), stopping after each one to check CPU temperatures and CPU use in Activity Monitor.
I'm now back to a full 10.4.3 install, with all current recommended Apple software and I don't have the heat/CPU use problems I previously had. There is no significant use of the CPU by the launchd process.
I also re-enabled Spotlight indexing and that doesn't cause a problem either.
Also, my entire system is *MUCH* quicker and responsive. I wish I knew what piece in my previous system install was causing the problem, but hopefully my experience can help someone else. When in doubt, do an "Achive and Install" rather than an update to the previous system installation.
By the way, with heavy Spotlight indexing going on and mild web browsing, my CPU temp is just 112 to 115 degrees F. Previously, with no Spotlight indexing and with NO apps running, my CPU temp was maxed at 135 degrees with fans on full. And if you're reading this thread, you know what max fans sound like on a 12" PB.

My CPU fan defaults to 3000RPM. I can rev the fan higher with 3rd party Fan controllers, but no lower than 3K.

OR you can short out the original temp sensor, to make the fans rev at quieter speeds.
You can also install an optical temp sensor in place of the old one, it will still read temps and adjust the fans accordingly, just not as good as an internal sensor.

I see that fan issues are a frequent topic, but I haven't read anything quite like this so I thought I'd post just in case someone has any advice:
About a month ago, my iMac (ALS, 1.8 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 10.4.4) starting turning its fan on full blast while it was asleep. They run for about 30 seconds to a minute and then turn off on their own. When I subsequently wake it up, the wake up procedure is delayed, but it appears to be okay... for a while. However, when I try to log out our shut down it will get hung up eventually requiring a hard reset.
Notably, although most programs will work fine during the time between wake up and shut down-related crash, Toast Titanium (ver. 6) will not completely launch -- the icon will appear on the dock, but I can't access the application, and I cannot force quit it.
This problem persisted for a few days, and then went away! Even Toast begain to work properly again. It was not clear to me what fixed it: quite a few restarts, permission repair, disk repair, etc, but nothing seemed to be a "magic bullet".
Unfortunately, the problem just started again. That is, the fans started coming on during sleep and the computer will eventually crash. Furthermore, Toast Titanium stopped working at the same time.
Any ideas regarding how the fan issues and Toast are connected?

And even if your serial number does not appear in the link above, run the extended hardware test with the restore disk that came with your machine. The instructions for doing so are similar that of the Powerbook restore disk here:

If there is a power supply issue, or a fan issue that is a hardware related problem, it might appear in that test. The lack of a positive may mean something else is wrong, but at least it is a place to test. Is it happening when no third party devices or networking is hooked up?
