Fan makes noises

when I bought my my macbook air I have never experienced this problem before but after couple of months then I started noticing this problem.
when I am working on my macbook air sometimes it is all quiete, however, unexpectedly there is a weird fan noise even for 20 to 30 minutes , and I do not know whether it's normal or not.

normal, when you doing some light CPU load works, the fan isn't work, so no noise from mac.but if you doing some heavy CPU load works the CPU temp becomes high, so the fan is working , you can hear some noise

  • Fan makes noise, even after erase-install?

I have an iMac running tiger 4.5. The other day, I had kind of a bluescreen-scenario while to find a USB memory-plug on the desktop. The macine wouldn´t restart properly, not even in Safe Mode. While trying this, the fan started roaring, and never stopped.
I started the iMac up as a firewire-item, which allowed me to make a backup of important files. Then i booted from install disks, running disk repair on Disk Utility until it said no repairs necessary. That didn´t help my startup issue, and the fans were still going. Tried archive install, didn´t help either. Finally, did erase install. The iMac then started up with a "brand new" desktop - but the fans are still noisy like an airplane from the second I push the startbutton.
Called Apple Support, they suggested the running fan was a hardware thing, but I find that hard to believe, as the fan-problem occured while I was solving what I found to be a software issue. Any suggestions on this one, or should I bring the machine to professionals right away?

Have you tried running hardware test?

  • Cooling fan makes noise n laptop freezes

    hi,
     i got a satellite -215 S4747
after i start my cooling fan starts making some noise as if its struggling to rotate, n within few minutes laptop freezez,,
i got it checked der was no dust or anything found on the fan..
    pls help.

Is your model A215-S4747?  Support site here
If there is no dirt clogging the heat sink fins, and none in the fan blades, then it may be the fan itself is/has failed.  replace fan or attempt to relube existing fan.  search the internet on how to restore a fan by relubing.  I think replace would be better, and what you may ultimately have to do anyway.

  • My compaq presario desktop hangs after working for while.cpu fan also makes noise.?

I did clean the dust but still fan makes noise and after starting the system it hangs.say may be after 10 min....what could be the problem ?

The ST5402FH is circa 2008. Here's how to measure a fan. Although the example is for a 92mm, it's likely your CPU fan is 80mm. Use the guide to learn how to meaure the fan, so you can order it.
The CPU fan is a 4 pin PWM fan. It's RPM is critical. Order too slow a fan, and your system will not boot. You can use the free HWMonitor to check the current RPM ranges. It will show 2 fans, just disconnect the rear case fan (3 pin) temporarily to determine which is the CPU fan.

  • How much noise should my G4 fan make?

I recently purchased a second hand G4 iMac flat-panel (for my kids to use so they'd leave my Intel iMac alone!). In contrast to the Intel iMac, which is virtually silent, the G4 cooling fan makes noticeable noise, which increases in volume over time - the longer the system is running the louder the fan gets, presumably because it's working harder to cool the system. I've installed Temperature Monitor, and note that the internal temperature gets as high as 104 F. Is the fan noise and temperature level normal for this model of iMac? It's not wind-tunnel loud, just noticeable. I've worked on other G4s that didn't really have a noticeable fan noise. Thanks for any help/advice.

    Hi Budzilla,
The fan on my G4 iMac has also got louder and louder. I heeded AxL's advice that it was probably caused by a build up of dust and today decided to open it up for a thorough clean.
It wasn't too difficult, if you're reasonably competent and take things slowly and carefully. I won't post a full explanation here (I'm sure there are plenty of detailed descriptions elsewhere) but briefly, I removed the baseplate, unscrewed the main base from the dome and vacuumed out the logic board area. Then removed the drive to access the fan and gave that a good clean too. There was a lot of dust!
You'll be pleased to hear that once reassembled, the fan was virtually silent and is now only just audible after an hour or so of activity. In fact, my external firewire is noiser!
In conclusion, well worth the 30 minutes it took and if you don't fancy the DIY approach, a good repair shop should be able to carry out the same procedure while you wait.
    Hope this helps,
    Graham.

  • My fan makes loud and very strange noises.

    Hi again,
My fan makes loud and very strange noises. Is there any cure for that?
    Thank you!
    Markus

Hmm... that is strange. There are a couple reasons that I can think of.
First, go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Processor Performance. See what its set to. If it is currently set to Highest, your fan could be going more often. Turn it down to Reduced or Automatic. Note if there is any difference.
Secondly, are you all up to date on software updates? The last step was to see if it was a software issue. If it isn't, then you probably have a defective fan. AppleCare?
Now, you would open your PowerBook. Look in the Apple docs (Support - Manuals) to find how to do it for yourself, or take it to a shop or Apple Store and have them do it. Safest option.
Look at your fan. Has it come free of the anchor and is hitting against the wall or fan surround?
Lastly, try keeping the PowerBook in a open, ventilated area. The fan will power up less if the computer stays cooler. For a possibly irritating but possibly helpful option, purchase a product that lifts the PowerBook off your lap or desk. I think Rain Design makes a good one.
    Good luck!

  • C655-S5212 fan makes a groaning noise

Hello everyone, this is my first toshiba laptop and I am glad to be here and join everyone who has own one.
My biggest concern is my cpu fan.
When it turns on to cool down or whatever it is doing the fan makes this groaning noise and then turns off. Its like a loud groan then turns into a lower sounding groan and then turns off. It does this for a little bit and then comes back on repeating the process. The only thing I really do is browse the web with no other apps open except my antivirus. I took it to Geek Squad and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. Is this normal? It is kind of annoying hearing this groan especially when there is no other sound to drown it out. My parents have a toshiba and theres doesn't make the noise I seem to complain about..
Any insight would be nice and appreciated.

Hey Peter thanks for the response.
It seems like if I am doing the simplest task such as browsing the internet it constantly hear it go on and off. Its more annyoing than anything else. Its like a little groaning noise. Stress Test's were done to check to see if overheating was going on, but it was only a little warm! It was crazy how cool the thing stays but I am not sure. We own a L755-S5214 and the thing is silent as ever. I am not sure what could be the problem when its dead silent in the room its annoying as anything but if theres background noise such as music playing, you cannot hear it the 755 you dont hear anything if theres no noise in the background.
I read around on the forums saying people had similar problems, I am guessing it could be a BIOS issue?

  • My right MacBookRetina fan makes creepy noise.

I bought a MBP Retina, it was quiet until now. The right fan make creepy, rattling noise. How do I get my MBP repaired? There is no Apple Store near.

Well, the SMC resets don't work. Its not that it is constantly loud, rather it that it falls into episodes where it rattles, which leads me to think that the fan is failing. However, I am looking for specifics, example, this fan cools say hard drive, dvd player and moves heat away from the logic board, or it serves as an air intake or something. I only can speculate but I want to be sure.
Although if anything is substandard for a $1600 computer, this fan makes the cut, only lasted 4.5 years without issues and that in itself is sad.

  • Hi everybody , i want to buy macbook pro retina but i wonder if he make noise or get hot ?

hi everybody , i want to buy macbook pro retina but i wonder if he make noise or get hot ? i don't use game or heavy program.

The only 'noise maker on a retina MBP are the fans.  The will speed up if there is a need to dissipate heat.
The MBP will become hot if CPU/GPU intensive applications are in use.  That is expected and normal.
    Ciao.

  • Fan like noise - Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch - late 2013 model

If I open Frontline Commando (game app) my brandnew Mackbook pro make fan like noise. (annoying and scary) Could anyone advice please?
    my sys configuration:
Model - Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch - late 2013 model
    RAM - 8 GB
    Processor - 2.4 GHz intel core i5
    OS - OS X 10.9.1

Normal during gaming use, fan noise.
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics gaming (typical, all is OK)
    A and D are normal
    B and C are not.

  • CPU makes noise?

    hy,
does the cpu of the new pbp's makes noise, or a any sound?
i am very sensitive for noise (dont know the word for this, well, i makes me sad, if f.e. the fan start/runs always and is loud).
i use a pb g4, and its cpu is audible, if it runs at maximun speed - silent, but too loud for me, sound like a harddisc).
what about the fan? is it running a lot of time, f.e. during working in photoshop/indesign?
    thank you
    claus
    pb g4, desktopp g4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

yes, thank you for your posts. i think, if i should get a mbp thats ok, so i will have no problem with the fan, noise... and if i run strong i make "noise" (breathing), so in a way this is normal.
    but if i will get a build-on-a-monday-mbp...
