Fan noise extremely loud since BIOS update; S430

hey there,
I have installed the new bios update; so I am running version 2.5 now. I have noticed that the fan is running more frequently now and louder than before, although I am not working on any demanding tasks. so, it is not unusual that the fan starts running very fast when I am just checking my mails.
Moreover, I noticed that the battery life decreased and I can hardly make it up to 3,5 hours. Normally, before the update, the battery could easily make it up to 5 hours.
Is there anything I can do about this?

Hey moritzmoritz!
I wanted to clarify which version of the BIOS you are currently using. I see you are currently using version 2.5 (released in Jan. 2013) of the BIOS, did you by chance mean the 2.51? The 2.51 was released Feb 6 2013, the date your post. I look forward to hearing back from you on this. Thank you!

my fan is extremely loud when i stream videos...is this normal? My laptop is only a month old

It isn't uncommon that your fan should run when streaming videos, especially flash.
Is you laptop properly ventilated ? ----> If it's resting on the bed, cushion, carpet or some other soft surface that could be blocking the vents, or which doesn't allow heat to dissipate, your laptop will heat up more than usual, and hence the fan will have to run faster.
Is your laptop on a cool surface that is ventilated? (like a wooden table)?
Are you running Lion? Ever since I upgraded to Lion my fan is almost always running, video or not.

  • E31 - Front FAN at full speed after bios update !!

    Hello,
we have a Thinkstation E31 (2555-22G), and today after the Bios update with the Lenovo system update tool the front Fan (near the SATA connectors) is at full speed constantly. it is just impossible to stay in front of this computer because of the noise, i had to disconnect the fan.
I tried to flash to an older version available on the site but it doesn't change anything.
I tried to reset the BIOS to default, and also removed the battery from the motherboard.
I found in a faq but for another model to remove the power cable and press the start button during 10 seconds.
I didn't find something working, there is no fan control setting in the bios, or it is well hidden...
    What can i do ??
    Thanks for your help.

The beeps you're hearing are part of the CMOS clear process, so they are normal.  Once you hear the beeps, you should be OK to shut it down again.
I'm not necessarily convinced a bad fan is the cause of the issue if you truly only experienced the higher fan speed after a BIOS update.  But I also don't want to work on the same issue from two angles/paths at the same time....so I'm going to say let's wait and see what happens with the service route first and go from there.
If you happen to try it again or see the message again...I'm curious what error codes you're seeing after the system starts and you get the two POST beeps.  A message about corrupted settings sounds like it could be important  A picture might be helpful here if you can capture one.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro bought last month Fan speed EXTREMLY LOUD

i took a video of the sound speed
idk whats going on its extremly loud is very scary. Is there any way i can fix it my self? because i need the laptop
also if i send it to msi in calli how long will it take? for this to fix it and send it back

i do agree with darkhawk, your laptop has got an defected fan, what it sounds like is it's being pressed and that middle part of fan is forcing the fan to spin causing that sound and also wouldnt be suprised if the fan blades are scraping against metal cover above and under fan part since fans have 2 metal plates so yeah.

  • My MAC fan runs extremely loud when I use Safari. What can I do to fix it?

When using safari my Mac gets extremely loud. No flash content, no video. It can be sitting there untouched just with safari open and out of no where the fans kick in and loud. What can I do to solve this issue?

To remove a forgotten Restrictions passcode you will need to either...
    1)  Restore the Device as New...  See Section 6 here...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
    OR...
    2)  From a Backup created Before the Restrictions Code was set....

  • Cpu fan is extremely loud

    Hello,
I have a 5,1 mac pro and recently my 2nd cpu failed me and i took it off.
After that i have extremely loud fun noiz on the cpu heat sinks, if both of them installed or at one  if its alone.
Is that because i run it without CPU on B tray?

Without a working CPU in that socket, the measured temperature is out-of-range. To avoid melting your equipment, the fans will run at top speed when a sensor like that one shows out of range.
Those CPUs are readily available. Get another one, or upgrade both to a slightly faster one, to get your machine back to "normal".

  • ThinkPad S230u won't wake up after IRST sleep since BIOS update

I am using S230u (i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD+24GB SSD) with Windows 8 x64 for half a year now and so far everything has worked just fine.
I have IRST enabled and when I put it in sleep mode, it automatically saves the state to SSD after an hour. That has worked great so far - I can put it to sleep for short periods and get it up instantly and if I put it to sleep for longer it will save to SSD and not use battery - when I wake it up, it flashes the red LED for a while and system comes back online.
However, this Friday I installed BIOS update - updated from 1.57.1.57 to 1.61.1.61 (at least according to System Update history).
Since Friday when I try to wake it up it does not work if the sleep is longer than an hour (or so) and the state was stored to SSD. The red led keeps flashing, but nothing happens - after around 1-2 minutes the system reboots and Windows loads again.
I want to downgrade the BIOS and doublecheck that this is the issue - perhaps it is some other Windows or Lenovo patch, so I want to be sure.
I have already located the BIOS drivers downloads (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032000) and am wondering if downgrading BIOS to check if this is the issue can break anything with my laptop?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We are working on the BIOS defect that causes this failure.  I'm very sorry for this inconvenience.
While downgrading the BIOS is a possible work-around, my advice is to simply disable the 30-Day standby feature in Lenovo Settings, until the new BIOS to fix this issue is released.

  • My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keeps freezing, the fan becomes extremely loud and the laptop gets very hot, what can I do?

    Hi there,
I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro  13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:
    Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement.
For more information about your coverage, please contact us.
Estimated Expiration Date: 24 August 2014
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?
    Many thanks.

Call Apple and make a appointment, backup your use data off the machine to a external drive.
Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.

  • I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with their imac fans being extremely loud when running at slow speeds?  When the computer heats up enough for the fans to run at higher speeds they quiet down. New HD fan was just installed.

I have an imac that I've had for a couple years.  The fans have always been loud when running at the slower speeds.  When the computer heats up enough for the fans to run at a higher speed the fans quiet down.  I had installed SMC fan control after multiple attempts with Apple to get the fan issue resolved.  That seemed to keep the fans quiet enough.  I've never had a problem with overheating.  Recently the fans were becoming loud again even running at the slightly higher speeds so I took it to my local Apple store and they replaced the hard drive fan.  I got it back and it's now as loud or louder than ever!!  And, now SMC fan control won't "stick."  The fans will speed up, but then gradually go back to the lower "loud" levels.  I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

    Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week.

  • Line on screen since bios update

Hi, I recently purchased a Satellite C75D-B during a visit to the US after my Fujitsu was damaged at the airport. However, I ran the update utility yesterday which also included a bios update. All seemed to go okay however, after the reboot I found I had a white line down the left hand side of the screen as if the screen had been damaged. The laptop hasn't been dropped or hit in any way and was working fine before the update.
Now the problem I have is that although its a new laptop, Toshiba here in the UK will not touch it because I purchased it in the US and although Best Buy are happy to take it back, the cost of shipping makes it pointless. So does anybody know if it is possible to roll back the bios to a previous state or do something to fix this problem. Thanks

    Hi Shy_Rhy,
Thank you for your inquiry, I am  happy to assist  you with this endeavor.
I see that your touchscreen cannot find your HDTV and you are looking for a bios update.  Any recommended bios updates are on the driver page for you system.

  • Fan Noise 2 loud !!!

hi whenever i see stage6 divx movie file from direct website plug-in. & when i open any audio apps & when istatpro in dashboard, process over 70percent...the mac book goes into big fan noise. which is pretty much not very good.
    help!
    thanks

Is it regular fan sound or is there a different sound you her when this happen? The fan becomes more audible the faster it goes. With CPU intensive stuff it works harder to keep your MacBook cool. This is normal.

  • Twist: 3 faults since BIOS update

Has anybody else had these problems.
    1. Bluetooth does not work and does not appear in the task bar after turning on the PC after a shutdown. But it does after a restart.
    2. I can no longer run Lenovo Solutions for Small Business. The program brings up the initial splash screen and freezes. I then have to close the program.
    3. Laptop takes a few minutes to turn back on after Sleep. If the laptop has been asleep for a short time it will wake quickly but takes very much longer to wake if it has been sleeping for hours. The led does a slow flash when sleeping but some hours later the led stops flashing and this is when it takes ages to wake.
There were no problems before the bios update, now it is very annoying .
    Thanks for any info.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We know about the #3 problem, someone else reported it in a different thread.  One way to avoid this problem is to disable 30-day standby in the Lenovo Settings application (look in the Power section).  We are working on another BIOS update to fix this problem.  I'm really sorry for this trouble.
I have not heard about the other problems (#1 and #2) and not sure how BIOS would affect them.
To confirm the problems, could you please try downgrading your BIOS to version 1.58 which can be found here?  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032000
Scroll to the bottom and you'll see the previous BIOS versions.

  • Fan Gets EXTREMELY loud on HP-dv7-6135dx laptop

    Hey everyone,
I love my HP laptop and this is the first issue I’ve ever had with it.  Sadly, it’s like my child, and I love it so.  I am very worried about it.  In the past few weeks the fan has gotten ridiculously loud and sometimes it’s to the point that it makes the computer vibrate never mind being annoying.  I went in the BIOS settings and changed the fan from being always on to on and off so it does shut off sometimes now.  I've tried spraying some canned air into the vent to clean it and it helps a little then is back to loud shortly after.  The fan probably needs to be replaced but seeing as my laptop is out of warranty I don't know what to do.  I could take it to Geek Squad or a local PC repair store.  Does anyone know how much a fan replacement on a laptop usually costs?  Is it hard to do yourself?  This is very distressing.  I haven't had any issues with overheating yet as I always keep the laptop on a desk and I have an oversized battery so the laptop always has airflow beneath it.  I downloaded a program called Speedfan and had no luck with adjusting the fan speed.  I just really want this to be fixed and not cost me an arm and a leg as I am laid off.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should do.  The fan wasn't always like this as I said this happened not long ago.
    Its an HP dv7-6135dx Notebook
    It's product number: LW174UA#ABA
I am running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
    The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
The GPU is Radeon (TM) HD 6490M integrated with Intel(R) HD Graphics Family Chip (switchable)
    Thanks Alot,
    Timothy

    Tragetica,
The estimates given could be accurate -- it depends on where you, the quality of the replacement parts, from whom you order, whether you do the work yourself.  I use HP parts and I order from HP; I have that option.  The simplest approach is to call and ask for help if this option is available for you.

YouTube is a great resource - Watch, watch, and look around at what is available.  There are videos on the subject that can help you decide whether you want to do this yourself.  Even if you do not do the job on your own, you will be better informed when you take in or send the unit for repair.
Remember that a key factor in any repair is the repair itself and to keep from damaging anything else in the process.  Be sure you have backups - more than one set and more than one kind - BEFORE you do anything that requires you to take apart your computer or to send it to anyone else for repairs.
Because you are having issues with the fan, I would suggest it is important to have at least the Image backup of your system done anyway -- just in case you need it.  That fan may quit working and you want to have a means of recovery.
